  1. Sic Erit reminds me of Heretic on it's deep dry down. I ended up decanting and then gifting/selling away all my Heretic because it was too strong for me for first several hours so Sic is nice in that regard. I have no idea why I put it on and thought Heretic right off the bat~ they don't share any listed notes at all.

Starts of slightly citrus on me which fades within half an hour. My nose is so confused by this scent. Nothing I am smelling makes sense. Did I get a wonky bottle?

  2. WHIRLING WIND MOON
Swiftly walk o'er the western wave,
    Spirit of Night!
Out of the misty eastern cave,
Where, all the long and lone daylight,
Thou wovest dreams of joy and fear,
'Which make thee terrible and dear, —
    Swift be thy flight!

Dreams of joy and fear: swirling dark and airy musks, mogra, plumeria, hyacinth, lily of the valley, dry white sandalwood, raw white ginger, gardenia, pale amber, and oakmoss.

Really? Nobody has reviewed this? Or have they been reviewing it on the previous year incarnation? Mods feel free to whoosh

Not nearly as floral as it sounded more's the pity. Or musky or anything. How does Beth & Co manage to surprise me time and time again with unexpected loveliness? It feels cool, like a man's cologne ~ bracing almost. And there is movement to it as well. When I put it on today I was sad until I went outside and the chill in the air combined with this was just so perfect and crisp. Not my style at all because well I was hoping for floral and musks and I cannot get any of the listed notes out of this at all. MAYBE ginger and oak moss. It does have that aquatic feel that Spanish Moss SN has~ not a floral not herbacious but wet and sultry. Only crisp instead of steamy.

I also get cucumber from this. That happens a lot with mossy and or aquatics so shrugs. I am the worst person for reviewing this kind of scent since it is out of my realm of what I wear.

  3. While trying to limit myself on which luper to pick up I was strongly tempted by this one. VioletChoas' review threw me over the edge and made this one a must buy.

I love Cathouse and used to spray it on my bed linens until The Flame started breaking out in hives o.0 I haven't tried since to see if it was something else or my beloved atmo spray. So so so happy to have this scent. It really does smell like Cathouse on me

  4. Amber, bergamot, champaca flower, centifolia rose absolute, tolu balsam.

I am not very good with the notes and I haven't really spent today trying to tease out the wet, dry, deep dry down that I do when I plan on reviewing but I cannot resist starting

Gorgeous. I put it on and I felt that it was a bit sharp to begin. Honestly I was a wee bit underwhelmed. The bergamot was really strong I guess and there was something oddly plastic about it BUT THEN

and isn't there almost always a But Then?

I am sitting there minding my own business and my daughter says mom you smell really really good. To which I respond hmmm still trying to decide if I like it which causes an I'll take it. uhhhhh Shunga

Then the Husband comments about how pretty and feminine it is and how much he likes it. So ..

I bring my wrist up to huff and I get a very feminine slightly spicy scent but no clear rose, amber, champaca or bergamot. VERY well blended to present a delicate lushness~ does that sound contrary? Well it is gentle and sensual and warm and rich and creamy and all those other things I look for.

I tend not to smell a lot of stuff after I wear them for a while cus they blend in with me but judging on comments it has decent throw.

I think I need another bottle

    crossposting this to ravelry

  5. Anyone who likes Snake Charmer really ought to buy a bottle of Die Sundë, Vom Tod Verfolgt -- and be quick about it, since the Pickman Gallery is only live for one more day! I tested them side by side -- they are very much alike.

I want your chemistry. They are nothing alike on me :cry2:

PS I had both b4 you posted so delay is not due to ordering on your rec and being disappointed. I luvs them both :wub2:

  6. SNOW MOON 2012
In December, the skeletal, ice-rimmed fingers of winter take hold, and the nights are long, chill and dark. The first flurries of snow touch the land, and the earth itself becomes quiet. A scent of purity and silence, soft with falling snow, as dark as Midwinter: an icy flurry over the winter blooms of narcissus, hellebore, pansy crocus, dahlia, tulip, chrysanthemum, daphne and white rose, with a hint of fir and birch.

Just finished decanting this for group and smeared pipette, after I was done, on my arm for testing purposes. At first it is all fir or pine or juniper or balsam or you know that family of stuff that I just don't wear. After about half an hour I started to get something sweet and floral.... almost fruity ... and since then it has softened considerably into a frosted gentle floral with a hint of lemon or ummm orange or something. I am so glad the fir faded. I also am not getting snow as I know it. Not the slushy or minty or anything but there is a delicate blanket of frost there ... creating lovely shadows and light. It is kinda like looking out a frosted window admiring the laciness of it all into a winter gray sky that somehow miraculously has the snow glinting and sending out sparkles to brighten up the gloom

I tend to go for more floral scents myself but once again I am wowed by the labs skill. Kudos

  7. I do not think they are alike..... I would death match for you but I sent off the last dribbles I had of it from decant circle since ya know I ordered me own bottle. How do you feel about bathsheba? I should kind of know this since I read a ton of your threads but I am not remembering. It is both very feminine and resinous at the same time so should please da man and yourself as well

  8. I like this one on the deep dry down. Wet and during dry down, for me, it is slightly funky. Too animalistic.... There is a waxy feel to it which is good. Not sweet beeswax but you can easily sense somebody handling various resins and forming a little ball out of them. Years ago I used to burn amber and other resins in a little metal thingie so I know they are not malleable that way but still golden and sticky and dense. More like the mass of stuff at the bottom of my burn pot instead of the little nuggets placed into the burn pot if that makes any sense.

It is very gender neutral and I tend to prefer feminine scents so there is that during the new phase. After hours, and pleasant ones at that, it has melted and merged fully with me and is just wonderful. It lasts forever. I put this on yesterday afternoon around 3 pm and here we are 10 am the next morning and huffalicious me. For real

  9. this isn't what you are asking for but why not do something transitional..... when the carnival comes back maybe try some of the snake pit? I like coral snake which is, on me, apple and snake oil and the apple totally lightens and brightens the snake oil up. I know you are craving hod res and I only have the original but I guess that means you like carnation... alice? I actually love alice for some reason and it is roses with the spicy carnation kick. It was one of the first non heavy resinous scents I fell for. I mean slathered fell for hard.

I like oranges mandarins and tangerines not lemons or grapefruits so cannot help you there. However last winter we had a lot of beeswaxy amber and citrus blends....maybe something like that is in the works again this year.

    Good Luck

PS my husband loves roses which I never wore before but he also really enjoys my spicy resinous floral stuffs as well. Hugs to you

  10. I always recommend Mama Ji for floriental fans. I am still loving Defututa so maybe my tastes won't work with you. MJ is a sweeter/damper, due to flowers, Morocco in my head

OK, I'm gonna hijack this thread and ask for very specific recommendatons! ;)

Forum fairies, can you work your magic on me?

I am looking for a floriental - although I'm usually not much of a floral scent person.

I do not like rose (too soapy) or violet (makes me nauseous). Carnation is sort of meh for me, as it kinda smells like band-aids on my skin. :(

I really love Queen of Sheba, and I like Hunger. (As far as "other" scents are concerned, I really love Snake Oil and variations of it - such as Asp Viper! - and musky blends like Giant Vulva or Xiu..ha..youknowwhatimean)

I used to like Defututa, but I swapped it away because it seemed too green to me after a while, and I stopped wearing it.

White Phoenix and Opuhi were TOO floral for me and both gave me a severe headache.

I am not too fond of really dark scents (anything black or smoked), and I am careful with fruity notes (no apricot, peach, pom) and patchouli.

Almond, spices, vanilla, lighter or oriental musks (white, skin, Arabian, Egyptian etc.) always work on me. Now.. just some florals in the mix would be great!

Any ideas? Can be GC, LE, DC, whatever.

I hope this is not too.. specific and impossible.

(I also take floral recs that are not strictly florientals..)

  11. My husband has a fondness for rose scents. I personally do not. In my experience the lab's rose scents have a tinge of greenery attached to them. Judging from reviews this is one of the features people like most about them... fresh cut roses stems and all woot. I don't care for that greenery note. Here we have no stems or leaves or fresh cut anything. What we have is a sea of rose petals. Glorious, glorious rose petals. My husband is happy and I am happy. Total win.

  12. In the bottle whoa nelly~ perfume! Strong perfume! I don’t know what took it from mysterious and intriguing to commercial alcoholic perfume. Still after Much Hesitation I decided to go ahead on put it on. Perfume! Not so strong. The Beloved One walked in and started looking around and peering at flat surfaces. Lifted blinds to check ledge etc. I asked him what are you looking for? Incense. Are you burning incense? It’s my perfume. No, it’s incense. Sniff. Oh it’s your perfume. Which led to a brief discussion on how I used to burn incense when he met me but don’t anymore. Why bother when I smell like a stick yo?

    Yeah.

Despite my claim I want to smell incense-ous :P that sounds dirty if this is it the answer is no. No, no I do not.

NOTE old pre label change bottle {purchased by myself from lab} The orange could be lost due to age and fresh imp is not out of line

  13. If you do get an imp of Lot and His Daughters keep in mind it is super strong woah nelly in the bottle/imp. At least to me. It softens almost immediately when it hits the skin. I just retested it yesterday due to Salon panic and will probably dab it on again today to double check. It is just slightly off on me but, judging from your previous threads {which I have read in past since I noted we have similar tastes}, you are more into patchouli than I am. I am more a myrrh girl than a patch girl although the patch in this is very well behaved on me.

  14. Since I mentioned Athens have you tried Mama Ji? Some reviewers read it as an incense. The flowers are real close to Athen's. It is the spices of Morocco with the flowers of Athens.

Smut was too honey for me. Urd was funky. Body Remember had some weird plastic note. Going by how you are reacting to stuff that is close but no cigar I think we have similar tastes. I used to go for incense all the time then florientals and now spicy florals.

Lot and His Daughters is being D/c at end of this month. It is incense and sweet but with just a hint of dirt in it. Not a dirty patchouli but my body funkifies geranium to something musty. Similar to Moriarty with orange instead of plum although I see you like plum. At least you can still get Lot and Mme should be available again soon.

I will think about amber... the best was Pallas Athene and that is hard to find. I am hoarding it whenever I see it.

Did you try defututa again? It is closer to skin than athens, mme moriarty all those things but it has that feel to it.... mysterious, sweet, spicy, resinous

    edited for spelling

  15. this isn't really noted as an incense scent but Athens.... A reformulation and modernization of a true Classical Greek perfume, myrrhine: voluptuous myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers.

that and defututa have sky rocketed to my top 10 on first test.....Olive blossom, honey, smoky vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower.

  16. I was very lucky to find a fabulous fairy and fairy broker!! :wub2:

I have given this a couple of tests so far as well as the sniff of bottle thing and unfortunately it does not work on me. Keeping in mind that I wear a lot of spicy heady floral scents, my final review:

Very woody/herbal smelling. The sage is giving it a medicinal vibe and the sandalwood is turning into wood shavings on me. Neither my husband nor I like this on me much. Too masculine. The lily of valley is not coming out at all and I guess I had hoped for a stronger floral and or softer woods.

After a decent dry down period it does seem incense-y but not a sweet or floral incense. Rather sage smudge stick clean herbal. Not my style at all

    :(

  17. I have had a bottle of this sitting around for a few years... somehow it always gets neglected in favor of other spicier scents. I am trying hard to rectify the neglect aka expand my horizons.

In the bottle it is very perfumey and by that I mean a fairly generic flowery thing. I can't pick out any notes or even a family but within minutes of putting it on ...oh my :thud: The Lily of Valley blooms on me and smells perfect. I don't even get other notes although I am sure they are there grounding and sweetening and doing what not to it but this reminds me of being a child, laying under a tree with dappled sunlight streaming down and examining the little white bells of LOV. This is not to say I get grass or any of that stuff.... a gentle warmth, a lovely breeze keeping me from being too hot, and one of the sweetest scents of spring/early summer. Oh look! I think I spy a rolly polly!

Fades fast on me as do most florals that are not mainly spicy resins and as usual my husband loves the very feminine scents. Coincidentally I was searching for a good LOV scent so am very happy to find this one. I do with it lasted longer or had a stronger throw but that is the story of my life.
