I thought I had reviewed this already. This is my husbands everyday scent. It's okay, it's not my favorite on him by far, but it does suit him very well. While I can pick up the sassafras mainly what I get is cedar, vanilla, balsam with a bit of leathery powder in that order. My husband is an old soul. He shaves with a straight razor and was wearing a fedora before they were cool again. He listens to old music and reads old books...so tombstone suites him. He says he feels very comfortable in this scent. It does give off the feeling on "old man". Not the grandpa old man..but a dignified, slightly weathered but very wise and still viable and very virile older man. As for me, well, it smells okay on him, but like I said it doesn't have the wow factor. Not like perversion or Antikythera mechanism. Obviously this will be a staple for him because he just loves it. When we ordered our sample imps he just kept coming back to this one.

I love this so much I got the big bottle. Ohhhh.. this is my little slice of peace in a crazy world. On days I know work will be insane I make sure to wear this. Then when I am getting yelled at over the phone or my boss is repeating herself like a demented parrot I sniff my wrist and it calms me down. PLEASE BPAL never discontinue this. In the vial: smoky vanilla-ish honey. Fairly strong smelling Wet: Beeswax, beeswax, beeswax with a pinch of smoke and lots of honey. This is a sharp type of honey, but paired with the beeswax and vanilla (I have no idea if vanilla is in this or not; but I smell vanilla) it mellows the honey out. I love this so much!! It also sort of melts into my skin, and picks up on my own natural smell and just sort of turns into a second skin smell (?) Yeah, that's the best way I can describe it. Dry: This has staying power. Also the beeswax gets stronger but basically the scent smells the same wet and dry. It has decent throw. LOVE! I pair this with BBW honeysuckle lotion with Demeters beeswax perfume and Mariah Careys "Honey" perfume. I am a sucker for beeswax and honey (I should have been a bee keeper) and the combination smells so perfect. When ever I wear it everyone says I smell amazing. So far this is my second favorite after Dragons Milk.

Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig. This was a frimp from the lab Wet: Very chemical smelling. Loud punch of alcohol. I agree with other reviewers that this smells like a generic girl's perfume. So far nothing at all spectacular about it. I do smell the tea leaves and the ginger. On My Skin: It warms up pretty quickly. I am picking up the herbal notes, moss and the tea with lots of fig. The ginger is fading fast. That's sad because I love ginger Dry: Actually this is quit nice. It's not my favorite, but a big bottle for the summer may be in order. Thank Heavens the alcohol/chemical scent went away. Also I never picked up the green grass smell. That's good because "green" smells do not play well with me. This smells pretty and light. The fig is still standing strong along with the tea leaves and the moss. The ginger has vanished completely, or maybe another note in this is over shadowing it? I can't tell. Well if the ginger is still around, it's being deathly quiet. 5 hours in: This faded pretty fast, too fast for me to buy a bottle, BUT I will keep my imp. I also paired this today with a old bottle of BBW Daffodil fields that my little sister found in the back of her lotion closet (She has a tiny little addiction to scented lotion) and the pairing is perfect. I smell very very good today

I used to think I hated the smell of rose. Well I DID hate it, until BPAL. What ever rose note BPAL uses works for me. So far everything I have smelled from BPAL that has rose as a note has seemed wonderful. So I thought I would give Whip a try. Kinky fun name so why not. Wet: Rose just Rose. Big red ones. Not small little pink ones. These smell like my Great Grandmothers bedroom in the summer. very comforting. The rose doesn't smell artificial either. This smells real. On my skin: I can pick up the leather and it is meshing well with the rose. Both notes are strong and aren't competing with each other, they both stand well. This is very pretty. Dry: Oh darn...the smell is gone. This didn't have any staying power on me, but sadly that is how it is with me usually this is a very nice fragrance. I'm not sure I will buy a big bottle...I just don't see me wearing this too often, but I will cherish my imp for sure.

Frimp from the lab Wet: smells of cherry (real ripe and almost black cherries) and cedar (does Mahogany smell like cedar??) On my wrist: Whoa! major cedar. nothing but cedar. I must amp wood smells or something. Dry: Cedar with a hint of "redness" I am picking up strawberries (odd) and cherries and something...hot. Something like cinnamon or Allspice berries? Maybe I'm picking up the currant and it's just not registering as such. After awhile all I am left with is a fading fast cedar scent. On me red Queen has no staying power. But my skin tends to end fragrance..so it's probably just me. I did like it sort of. I won't be buying a big bottle but if you are a fan of cherries (I am) and cedar (I'm not) then this would work well for you I think.

Frimp from the lab In the imp: Oh this smells nice! Melon and roses, not watermelon, defiantly honeydew and not big red roses, soft pink ones just starting to bloom. Wet: Melon comes out the strongest, I am seeing where some people said this smells like candy because it is starting to smell a bit like bubble gum. Dry: The back drop of rose is coming out very strong on me. Wow this is a very nice scent. I usually hate the smell of rose on me but this is very nice. Well...It's not "My" kind of smell but it is just beautiful. I have been wanting to get my daughter a bottle of BPAL..I think this would work just great for her. It's sweet and innocent and calm. And I think this would be a very good scent to introduce people to BPAL. It's sweet, and pleasant and very pretty. I think most girls would enjoy this smell. So the Magpie gets a bottle of this for Christmas. I'm sure she is going to love it.

This infamous herb has a long, complex history: it has been used in spells of death and destruction, was a principal component in traditional witches' flying ointments, and was the poison used to put the philosopher Socrates to death. We have created a dark, profound herbal blend to personify and honor this wicked little plant. Frimp from the lab. Herbal-ish or "green" smells never do too well on me. But I thought I would give this one a go. In the bottle its a very pretty green color. Smelling it from the vial...WHOA! This smells exactly like Vicks vapor rub. Not a smell I would want to have around me at all. I'm getting a faint smell of pine but mainly it's Eucalyptus. At least my sinuses are cleared out now. On my skin it did stay Vicks, but there is also a subtle herbal smell emerging. That part was pretty. Then I started to smell onions. Most "green" smells do turn to onions on me so this I was expecting. After about 20 minutes all I am getting is Onions and Vicks Vapor rub. The pretty herbal smell went away. To make matters worse, this scent has some major legs, it's all around me. No, this sent is not for me. I have a friend who just loves Eucalyptus so I think I will give this to her.

I wear cocoa butter lotion too. I think what you need to be looking for is "creamy" type of smells. Vanilla-ish, Caramel-ish etc. Of course there are so many complex notes in BPAL...that isn't really a hard and fast rule. Any of them could work you just have to play around with it. Vixen and cocoa butter seem to be friends on me, as well as Dragons Milk. "O" not so much. My husband also uses cocoa butter he he wears Perversion and sometimes Tombstone...both of those seem to work. Today I am wearing snake oil aged about 11 months and it just smells divine. I am also wearing cocoa butter today and I'm not noticing anything off about the combination. I don't know what black pearl smells like, I have an imp coming, but I would think cocoa butter and black pearl may go well together.

I thought I had done my review of this already...but I don't guess I did. here goes in the imp: Sharp and sort of knocks your head back. Very strong chemical smell. Very aggressive and unsettling. I really don't care for it on the bottle. Wet: As a poster above me said...this smells like heat. Hay, sun, dry dust, Dried scorched ground, end of summer hay fields...and finger nail polish remover On Skin: I am picking up the dandelion, but still lots of hay, lots of sun, lots of heat, thankfully finger nail polish remover faded away Dry: Aaaannnndddd it's all gone. No staying power on me at all! That is a shame because I was starting to enjoy this. This is not a thing you wear, its a mood. It's a hot August day that was captured in a bottle. Would be very nice to break this out in the dead of winter. I won't be buying a bottle but I will cherish this imp for sure

ME TOO! I have yet to find anything that smells even close to Black Chamomile. It's so wonderful.

This smells exactly like a Ranger should smell. In the imp: Deep woods in winter with a bit of buck skin. No hay yet. Wet: There's the hay. The wood notes are mingled together so well that I can't pick out who is who. That's good because straight up pine will make me sneeze and nothing like that is happening. Also the leather smell is there but it's coming and going. Dry: I am really feeling the need to grab my boots and go for a hike here in the Ozarks. What I love about this is there is no hint of "chemical" smell that you sometimes get with deep woods smells. This is the real thing. Just close your eyes and pretend your in the woods. The buckskin is back along with a touch of wet frozen moss. The hay has vanished (which is okay, I didn't think it did much for the scent anyway) and of course deep green ever greens and hardwoods. I'm tempted to take my imp and douse my Christmas tree with it. It's a fake tree and after smelling Ranger I remembered what a Christmas tree at our house used to smell like. Husband likes it but prefers others over this one and it is by far too masculine for me to pull off. Our teenage son on the other hand has asked for a bottle. So Ranger has found a home here

Oh my! This was a frimp from the lab. I really don't need another scent to add to my growing list of full bottles to order but Vixen just made the list. I may need to get a part time job, or eat less. Regardless I'm hooked and the only cure is full size bottles. In the imp: I sniffed and smiled. "Good" I thought. I don't like it. It smelled like old spice after shave and patcholi with orange rind. To be fair I put it on the back of my hand and went off to cook dinner. A free imp demands that I take the time to really test it out even though I am secure in my assumption that I won't like it. My bank account took a sigh of relief. I would smell the back of my hand a few times and was still getting straight up after shave. I shrugged it off because like I said before I really don't need my BPAL wish list to get any longer. I started to smell it everywhere around me. One little dot of oil and it was taking on a life of it's own. I also should note that dinner was pretty strong smelling. Vixen stayed strong through all of it. It also started to change for the better. I started to pick up on the ginger. Slowly the orange rind turned into orange blossom. Then out of nowhere vanilla showed up and dominated the scent. ODD! Ohhhhhh I like this. It really is the more girlie version of snake oil. Snake Oil and I didn't get along very well but Vixen and I will be fast friends. And hours later its still there going strong. Yeah this one is pretty amazing. It makes me feel pretty and flirty. I'm very much in love with this one.

This was a frimp from the lab In the imp: Mint and celery seed Dry down. The musk comes out along with a slight tobacco smell. I am not getting any caramel or maple syrup smell but that celery seed smell is still there lurking in the back ground. Something about this works for me. On a man this would smell very sexy. I would have never though that mint, celery seed, musk and tobacco would do well together. It seems to vanish pretty fast but I think we still may have to get a big bottle.

I got this imp for my husband hoping we could find one that would mesh with his chemistry. WOW! At first I thought that I was going to hate this. In the imp I smelled pepper and booze and basil or oregano(????). Not only did it not smell like something he would wear at this stage it didn't seem to suit his personality. But then... After it dried down it changed on him. The tonka came out very strong as did the leather and tobacco. After awhile it started to grow on me. Not only did the smell get much better, it got stronger on him as well. I could still smell this on him the next morning. It's subtle and after dry down it smells very very yummy. I couldn't keep my hands off of him. Leather, tobacco, rum and spice. Yes this smells like a man should smell. Bring on the big bottle.

My husband can't stop sniffing me when I wear this. For that reason I am for sure buying the big bottle. (I don't suppose they sell like a bucket full do they?) Wet it smells like honey and vanilla. At this stage the amber isn't very strong. As it drys the amber comes out strong. The amber does want to turn to powder on me in this, but not in the typical powder smell kinda way. Its sweet not baby powder-ish. The throw isn't all that strong. If I place this in my hair, it helps with the throw but the smell of the oil is different. In my hair it's straight up honey and vanilla no amber at all. After a few hours the vanilla is the strongest note. I amp vanilla so I'm sure that is why. O does not want to last that long on me, but most scents don't with my chemistry. I don't mind, I can always put more on. My husband loves this so much I may have to start making sure this is a staple I keep around. I mean seriously he can't stop sniffing my wrist.

This is a strange little scent. In the imp I smell amber and a resin/musky smell. I really didn't think I would care for it at this point because the resin smell was just so strong. Wet. It smells like an older mans after shave. I am positive there is an after shave out there that smells just like this because as soon as I smelled it, that was all I could see. Dry. Wait this is nuts. It is starting to smell just like my lemon meringue strawberry shortcake doll I had when I was a kid. I smell that and powder so now it's sort of like a lemon Meringue powder smell. Odd. I also find that I can't "smell this" all around me anymore but every once and awhile I get a whiff and then it's gone. Where I placed it on my wrist is still going strong but I find this to have very low throw. After a few hours it's back to the after shave smell. I actually am very curious as to how this would smell on my husband. I don't care for this one. I did enjoy the fond memories of my childhood that this invoked but I won't be buying a bigger bottle.

I am completely in love with this! In the imp it smells like warm vanilla and resins (dragons blood?). It's very strong and comforting. There is also something sharp here. I think it must be the honey. On my skin it doesn't change much. Some reviews are saying it turns into powder but on me the vanilla goes stronger. I tend to amp vanilla. I also think I am picking up some amber here but I'm not sure. The resin smell is taking a back seat but it still stands. It keeps this from being too sweet. This is wonderful. 4 hours into this and it is all around me. My skin is working so well with this. It's strong with amazing throw. Oh I am buying this for sure. It is so rare to find a scent that sticks around on my skin and this one just doesn't stick around, it melts into my skin and becomes part of my skin. Even while I cooked dinner I could smell this everywhere. This is so amazing.

This was suggested to me in the forum and I am so glad I tried this out. When I first opened the imp, I caught a whiff of something I could not put my finger on. Whatever it was it made me feel peaceful. In the imp I get green apple and something else. Something darker and something sharp and pepper like. On my skin it turns into pure apple. Not a "fake" apple scent. This smells very much like a real apple. Like I have just bitten into an apple. It's beautiful. It also doesn't smell of green apple anymore. Now it seems to smell Red and the apple itself is surrounded by green herbs.(If that makes any sense) When it dries it gets even better. It is still very much apple, but the "poison" comes out. I cannot put my finger on what I am smelling. Resin? maybe. Whatever it is, it is working. I adore this so much. After about an hour I finally figured out what was making me feel so peaceful. This is exactly how my Mom smelled when I was younger. I'm not sure what products she used back then but she smelled exactly like this. Of course my skin ate most of the scent after awhile. It did linger a bit and isn't completely gone. I love this. Yes, I'm buying a full bottle.

I got my first shipment of BPAL in today and I immediately tried Snake Oil on. I'm not a fan. Okay, that's wrong. I am a fan of it, just not on me. I think it would smell amazing on my husband. I do smell the vanilla, but on me this turns into an after shave sort of smell. In the bottle I got a huge whiff of vanilla and cough syrup. On my skin it smelled more medicinal and less vanilla. It gradually warmed up to a vanilla-ish sexy man smell (not the smell I was going for). The resins are strong in this one and while the vanilla comes to full attention the resins turn it into a very masculine vanilla. Hopefully my sexy man will be okay with his imp of this because I just can't hang with it. I was also hoping for better staying power. Its been about 5 hours and it has all but disappeared on me. That isn't necessarily an indicator that it wont have staying power on you. My skin eats perfume. Alas, this one wasn't a win for me. Tomorrow I'll be trying "O". I sniffed it in the bottle and I do believe we will be best friends. Edit: NOW I UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT Okay so I set this back and forgot about it. I pulled my imp out last night to see if aging really helps this stuff. I am very happy to say that aging makes all the difference. My imp has been aged for 9 to 11 months..give or take. This stuff is fantastic. All the vanilla a girl could want with staying power to boot. I'm so happy! I am going to buy a few big bottles just to age.
