  1. Somber violets, violet, mainly, and I cannot tell anything else apart, but there are other things, something that cuts the sweetness, something that gives a bit of green, and that warms it up, but very subtle.

Awesome violet! I forgot how much I like it.

This is a bottle, for sure. It is on it's way.

  2. Well, I wanted to smell what this leather note was all about... MEH

I love this stuff. I love myrrh too, so well, this is an excellent combination.

Yes it smells of leather. And other extraordinary stuff. Warm and dark, hmhm, delicious! I just can't explain...

In fact, this is what I want a man to smell like, but I don't mind to smell like that, either. I am gonna have to try more scents with leather!

As hours pass: woooah, so intoxicating, love the stuff!

    On my boyfriend: *dies*

  3. On the bottle and wet, I smell something very medicinal, that I can recognise, but I don't remember what it is... can it be camphor? (hey girls, I also got the batch that contains what you call wintergreen it seems ;P)

Strong camphor, that fades away after a while, but it is still a strong medicinal smell, and no flowers, cinnamon or nutmeg whatsoever, as some people say. Camphor and wood??

The thing is, after a long while, I love this. Later on I smell the flowers, but so subtle, and wood, and it is lovely, perfect, a Hamadryad.

Two hours later: too good. I don't care to wait 15 minutes for the camphor to dissapear. Bottle!

  4. I bet there is some coconut in this o_O or is that familiar smell almond?

The scent is pretty faint... light, pure, but I preceive a hint of smoke in the beginning.

Now I can smell the vanilla. But it is vanilla in a cake, not fake perfume vanilla. It is very innocent and pure. Creamy vanilla and almond.

Well, I really like it. It is not something I would think I would like if I would read some of the components (coconut & vanilla) but it is so soft that I really like it, it is elegant and innocent, it is charming. It is a great interpretation on the subject.

It has a good throw, it is very long lasting (+8 hours now, still there) it is creamy, conforting, yes white. I really like it, I am not gonna hunt a bottle, but I will surely get one if it is re-released next christmas.

Note: next day there are still traces!

    Another note, weeks later: Damn!

I utterly fell in love with it, slowly, but surely.

Now this is a great surprise for me, as I would never have picked this perfume if I would have read the reviews beforehand.

It is creamy yes, but in a soft and subtle way I wouldn't imagine possible.

I hunted a bottle down, and I am so glad I did!

  5. I don't have much to say about this one...

I mostly smell the rose and other flowers, wih a deeper warm background, that must be my beloved myrrh, but it is not enough to make me fall in love with it...

It is beautiful, certainly, perhaps a bit too flowery on me. It goes a bit baby powder after a while. I will probably use the imp, but I think that is all...

  6. The stuff dyes my skin red! well, orange. I am not a lover of Dragon's Blood...

Luckly, I smell mostly spices, with an earthy undertone, and a far away sweetness, that must be the dragon's blood... but it is not unpleasing.

On me it seems pretty balanced. None of the parts come out much more than the others. I seem to perceive some itchiness on my wrists, will that be in my head? I didn't have any reaction to inferno... later on it dissapears.

All in all, it surprised me positively. But it is just not me...

  7. On the imp I smell sweet wet flowers. On, sweet flowers. And a gritty undertone. The thing is very strong, and a bit old lady.

It changes, it becomes dark green and nicer, and I quite like it, but not for a bottle.

Later on: I smell mainly roses now o_O

  8. Reading the reviews, most people seem to hate it and is scared by it. Well, I have to try it now, let's see if I hate it too. But a very very little amount will be ;P

Wet, it smells of patchouli or sandalwood to me. Somewhat smoky.

As it starts to dry down, I perceive the hated civet. Ok, it smells like goats and horses, hehehe. It is somewhat funny in fact. But the smell is not too strong. I put little, but it doesn't strike me as one of the strong scents. It is very warm too.

Well, it is somewhat sweaty, animalic, smoky, musky, very warm and wild.

And it is cat pee on my boyfriend, lol.

Very interesting, in fact. Captures the concept greatly.

  9. In the imp it smells of voluptuous red roses. Not pink, not innocent. It is just rose, but on me, this has a sharp and acrid undertone, like a green note but strange, much different than form the vial.

My skin seems to swallow it. It smells a bit weird. After a while, I smell a bit more, but seems to turn powdery.

I think that, for some reason, this is an unsuccesful rose scent on me... sadly.

  10. Wet is smells flowery/woodsy, it has a sweet component, but it is kept in place by the woodsiness. The incense and myrrh are subtle, but gound it nicely. A very nice floral in fact.

They are a mature womanly kind of flowers, sweet in the beginning, but in a dont-fuck-with-me way. If that makes any sense.

Later: as it dries down, I like it more and more. When I smell my wrist, I get a veyr lovely myrrh and cypress, as the flowers have vanished in great measure. I like it MUCH more, and I would consider a bottle when the budget allows. Adding it to the list...

  11. Wet it is nothing I expected. Sharp, like a sharp wood. But, in fact, if I look at the description, it is sandalwood and patchouli, and those are woods. I have been stupidly afraid of this scent, leaving it there for ages before testing it... as I type the scent comes to my nose and I really like it. A deep, wasted by use, rich wood, that would remind me much of a chest in fact. With a smoky something, that must be the frankincense... Super warm, but beautiful, hmhmh, I am so glad I have two imps!

This is great. I find myself liking darker eastern woods and incenses more and more, something I didn't expect, but that I am enjoying so much. Nothing to do with those horrible old lady scents of commercial perfumes! This is great stuff.

Waah, I like it more every moment it passes!

  12. Oh my, myrrh. I think I am gonna have to test every scent that has myrrh... and something sharper, in a flowery way, and something woody and dark green, as I like it. Yes, the background is a bit bittersweet, but it is excellent with the myrrh. I love this, as I knew I would, given the notes... hmh! It is just soooo lovely.

I am just readig about cajeput, which I didn't know. It is of the family of the melaleucas, and said to have a medicinal/camphor aroma. This must be what makes the scent more bitter, but it is a top note that should fade quickly. It is nicely blended though, and doesn't come out too much. And yes after some time it fades.

I like this scent so much through all it's stages. It is possibly gonna be my staple! I definitely need a bottle :P

  13. Hmh, flowers, some rose, pretty sweet in fact, a bit girly. I don't get the myrrh yet, though, but it is still wet. I get some acid smell now, as it dries. Green and sharp like leaves.

Some minutes after, it mellows, the myrrh appears (lovely!) and I like it much more. It is still pretty flowery and girly, very pale pink/white. I seem to recognize the stephanotis that seems to smell a bit like jasmine (or is it ylang ylang?) the roses have blended with the rest and I can't appreciate the note anymore. It is pretty nice, but still now and then I get this sour smell... I think something in here doesn't like my skin...

    Many hours later:

I have to reconsider. The myrrh comes out to dance, as it always does with me, and it is lovely. I don't feel a terrible urge to get a bottle right now, but it certainly goes into the list!

I have tried it several times afterwards, and I didn't get that kind of sour smell again... muct have been weird chemistry of the day.

  14. Hmh, I recognise the carnation for the first time in this perfume. It is somewhat acid, or astringent, I don't know how to explain. I don't get the musk in the beginning. I think my skin swallows this scent...

    No lemon either...

Later on, it un-sweetens. I would swear I smell some kind of wood, but it is not supposed to have this. Maybe it is the mix of carnation and white musk? hm. I don't get the honeysuckle, which I like... hmp :P

I applied more to see what happens. But it is definitely very subtle on my skin, I have to sniff my wrist to catch anything...

Some hours later: it seems to go powdery, not in a bad way, but also not in a good way.

  15. Kind of old topic, but I hope this is the right place to ask this.

As it happens with the search of this forum, searches of less than 4 letters don't seem to work. This is a pity because I want to know which scents have rum ;P

Is there any possibility to get the limit lowered?

  16. In the imp it is foul candy, so synthetic smelling... I am not a fan of fruit scents at all...

On the skin though, I mainly smell rose, pink fresh rose, not heady, girly.

As minutes pase, it changes, and I smell something else, more sweet, but not cloying, not pomegranates though. It is nice, but I don't think it is me... it reminds me of something...

Got it! I know what it smells like. It is like those indian rose beverages. Rose with some sugar, or some kind of sweetener. Well, I don't think I want to smell like this, even if the drink is ok. But I have to admitt that this scent is pretty nice. I think I will keep the imp.

    ADDED May 16:

  17. Very elegant, even more elegant than Usher, polite, contained, austere, intelligent, tasteful, like a perfectly dressed lady with an elegant updo and an inquisitive look in her eyes. It reminds me more of the character of Ligeia though!

And beautiful too, an understated kind of beauty... hmh, I really, really like it, and I will be getting a bottle.

  18. A really complex and evolving scent, that kind of tells a tale. It has surpised me very favorably, I was expecting something very heavy, more smoky and not so wearable, but is is lighter than I imagined, and more beautiful.

In my skin, I don't get carnation, all the notes mix very well and I am only able to distingish what I suppose is the honey, that smells much more of beeswax with a hint of sour propoleum that cuts the sweetness.

After a while, the beeswax with a hint of wood covers most of the other notes, so I don't know if I will get a bottle of this, perhaps another decant if I can find it will be enough.

    Edit, 22 october 2006

Gah! I got that other decant and poured both in a bottle I got from the generous person that sent the second decant... and forgot about it.

I tried it yesterday again... has it changed! it is just, hmh, better! deeper, very blended, golden beautifulness. It is so amazing I don't know what to say, except that it ages exceptionally well, and that I am in the hunt for one or two bottles! a bit late but there is hope...

  19. Hmhm, elegant, really elegant, delicate but with some kind of inner strenght, so polite, fresh, genteel indeed.

Fresh and bright (but not golden, more like silvery) and softly warmed by the white? musk.

I have to agree with Blood onmy hands, it is like a perfect couple with Berenice.

    Will get a bottle!

  20. Jasmine was my favorite flower when I was a kid, I picked flowers from the big jasmine plant that grew in the house next to my grandmother's, entwined with the fence. I loved the smell so much, and tried to extract it somehow, just putting flowers in water, in alcohol... of course nothing worked, I didn't have a clue how this was done. My grandmother's balcony had dozens of geraniums (probably another type though), I love the smell of Juniper and it's berries, and Poe is my favorite writer, so I had to get a decant of this! Even if I was afraid of the jasmine, because I haven't smelled any perfume with jasmine I liked, nothing smelled like the flowers...

    ... except Ligeia!

It is mostly jasmine, and the best I have ever smelled, it smells just like the flowers! It brings so many childhood memories :P

It is amazing, the juniper berry and geranium avoids it getting too sweet or concentrated, giving a "rest of the plant" feeling, a greener note in the background.

I love this, I am getting a bottle for sure.

  21. I start loving this the moment I open the imp... Pine! hmhm, it smells like one bottle of pine eo I once had and loved. I run out of it, and the next one didn't smell at all the same! grr

In a moment, I start smelling other things. Other lovely trees, musk, something animal, woah I LOVE it.

It only gets better with time, melting *drools* I can't stop sniffing. This is a dark temperate evergreen forest...

It is exactly what I was looking for when I found bpal, would they have something that smells like a dark forest? I don't have much more to say... Just perfect!

  22. Boo, it smells like horribly sweet candy in the bottle (I think this is the dragon's blood, and now I am extremely afraid of it...) and I had to make an effort to try it on.

At first it just smells like bubble gum :S In a moment it starts to change, and I think I smell wine, but it is not the wine I am used to smell, perhaps because of the spices and the sweetness.

It changes, but not enough. This is too syrup and sweet for me :P Maybe I should have paid more attantion to the reviews before ordering, but I was blinded by the imagery, I wanted to like this one so much...

Maybe if more of the wood and leather would come out, it does after a good while, when it has almost faded, but the sweetness stays there for too long and it makes me sick in my stomach.

I didn't put on much because it scared me, maybe if I do and I endure the first minutes, I will like it. I will try it again, but I don't have much hope...

  23. In the bottle it smells fresh, but not in a citrusy way (that is what I associate with fresh). Keeps on smelling like that on the skin, with some herbal touches, after a minute it starts to smell more woodsy, there are the rum and bourbon! The earth is very subtle, just grounding it, very nicely done. It is well blended, I can't tell the notes apart.

Many hours later. I like it even more. Decayed dried leaves, the moss, earth, the party is over. Absolutely lovely.

  24. I am mediterranean and my father was an "olivarero" when he was young, not to mention I use exclusively olive oil to cook (and for other things too). So I had to try this if only for the olive leaf, I like the other notes too, well I don't really know how raspberry leaf smells...

The imp smells like wood. Hm, it is wood and green and somewhat acid and dry. But I can't tell what it is. I get a hint of wax. I don't remember the leaves of the olive tree smelling like anything... so I don't have a clue how their essence smells. It doesn't remind me of olive oil. I don't smell the vetiver, but the wood I smell must be the cedar. It is a bit sinuses-opening. It doesn't change that much, it just keeps fading into cedarwood until this is the only thing I perceive, a few hours later. It is not awesome, but I like it.

  25. I was a bit afraid about this one, but I also wanted to order something different from the foresty stuff I ordered, and this was that imp. It surprised me positively. It smells like a hippy shop in the beginning, then mellows into somehting much nicer, but always keeping that middle-eastern feeling, of course. It is incensey, smokey, very warm, but not too sweet (yay!)

It is what I would expect an indolent odalisque to smell like. I don't see myself wearing this often, but I will use it when I am in the mood. I don't wonder why a lot of people love it :P
