  1. Hey there! Just wanted to say I'm also a 21 year old Uni student in Ottawa! I'm also on the Lush forum, I'm pretty sure I've seen you hanging out on the BPAL thread there! Anyway, just wanted to say hi, I hope you have an awesome trip! I've watched an esthetician string someone's eyebrows and it was THE COOLEST THING EVA!

Dude! Are you coming to the Meet n' Sniff on Sunday? Planet Coffee, 2:30 PM!

  2. (Foo! The board, kajyitcya ["it would seem"] doesn't support Russian characters.)

Hey, no worries! Davaite paznakomimcya! ["It's a real pleasure to make your acquaintance!"]

I took Russian on a whim, actually. I had heard that the professor was top-notch, which turned out to be the case: in the three months that I had her (she's currently on a half-year sabbatical), I never heard her say a single word of criticism to any of her students. She was the sort of professor for whom you'd feel proud to pull those extra couple of hours of studying; on the last day of classes, she took us out to a local Russian bistro and ordered us beer and cake. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have taken in half as much as I have.

It's worked out really well for me. There's no shortage of people who speak or who've studied the language (every week, I have the pleasure of going out for coffee with a good friend who grew up in Russia and who's currently studying linguistics; my manicurist, who grew up in Poland and studied Russian at school, will exclaim -- much to my delight -- "Kracivaya d'yedushka!" ["Pretty girl!"]), and I'm always happy to make their acquaintance.
