  1. This is all lovely, soft lavender on me in the wet and drydown stages. It's like the scent version of a very soft blanket made from cashmere or alpaca. I can detect some of the other florals and the sandalwood in the background, which gives the blend a unique twist and differentiates it from other lavender blends I own. Once dry it reminds me of floral soap, but I don't really mind, it's actually rather comforting. Not sure if I'd wear this during the day, it feels too innocent to wear to work, but this is a great bedtime blend. (:

  2. I got a frimp in a recent forums purchase and this was one of those Last Unicorn blends I was always worried about thanks to the mint and white chocolate (not a fan of white chocolate and I'm not usually thrilled with mint unless I'm in a very specific mood), but this? This is gorgeous. I'm so glad this was frimped to me, I never would have tried it otherwise! The florals here are amping on me and they really keep the mint in check, so instead of it smelling like I'm smeared toothpaste or rubbed mint leaves all over myself, the mint smells like cold air. It's all soft, delicate flowers on a crisp winter day. There's even a breath of musk that just takes this blend to another level. This is so beautiful and evocative, so ethereal and dreamy. This may very well be a bottle purchase.

  3. Got a frimp of this with a forum purchase! Been wanting to try this for ages, even though cake and vanilla are both iffy notes. It's actually not too bad on me, I think the currants are holding back the plastic that sometimes likes to accompany cake and vanilla blends. Overall it's sweet, but not cloyingly so, and youthful without being juvenile. I'm seeing pastel colors and lots of white. It's rather comforting, like a lovely childhood memory. The longer it's on the more pronounced the currants become, and they smell very nice on me, both sweet and fresh. Very pleased with this blend!

  4. I received a frimp of this in a recent order and wow, this is so pretty! I'm on the fence about red musk in general- sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't- but I really like it in this blend when wet and drying down. The notes complement it really well. The sweet notes meld together and cushion the red musk, which is then very lightly draped with chypre. I don't get bergamot, which is great because I'm not a huge fan, haha. Not sure if I'm catching any saffron, but I'm not entirely sure what saffron smells like anyway. It gets a liiiittle less pretty when dry, and I'm positive the red musk is the culprit (it smells a tad grapey now), but overall this is a very nice blend and is wonderful in the wet stage so I will definitely keep my imp. :D

  5. I got my order from the Lab yesterday and I had purchased an imp of Alice. I ended up getting two imps: one with a plain label that just says "Alice" on the front (and looks like all the other imps), and one with a more decorative image on the front that looks like the image on GC bottles (like this). They smell different - the plain one is more milk and honey forward while the decorative one is spicier. Did I get an aged frimp? I've never gotten an imp that didn't just have text on the front (with the BPAL logo on the back) of the tag. Or do the imps sometimes come with different styles of label and this is the first I've seen of it?

Sometimes they do have them in different labels, but typically I've only seen them at cons. At the bpal booth they'll have imps of popular scents with the bottle art on the label attached to cards that list the notes. My guess is that they had extras after NYCC. (:

  6. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet! The moment I saw the Bats Day announcement I honed in on this atmo and requested a fairy for it immediately. Tobacco is my favorite note ever, and I love clove and rum. Leather and patch can be iffy, but I figured it was worth the risk since they wouldn't be on my skin. And I was totally right! It actually smells better than I imagined it would, it's amazing and is easily my favorite atmo. :wub2: It's tobacco with incredible leather, a touch of patch, and a lovely swirl of rum, all softly enveloped by oudh and peru balsam. I can't detect any clove, but I'm pretty ok with that. Overall, this smells incredibly soft and smooth and sexy, definitely worth buying a backup bottle or two.

  7. You might like the Pumpkin Patch blends that were in last year's Weenie update. Alice in the Pumpkin Patch is particularly nice- Alice (milk, honey, rose, carnation, and bergamot) with added pumpkin! It's pretty nice on my skin, mostly milk and honey with a touch of carnation and some warm autumnal spices. Pumpkin can be weird on me sometimes but it behaves in this blend.

  8. I purchased an imp of this recently because tobacco/tonka is one of my favorite combos and I love it. I have no idea why but it smells like Verdandi to me, only with tonka instead of apple. Dark and sweet and deliciously smooth with booze and leather notes that behave themselves. I was hoping for more tobacco, once it dries the tobacco almost entirely disappears, but it smells pretty great regardless. I may need a big bottle of this!

  9. I bought a decant of this from a forumite a month ago and I've been wearing it at least twice a week since. It's mostly wildflowers on me with beautiful greenness from the dandelions in the wet and drydown. Once dry the cherry blossom gently emerges and the myrrh envelops everything in its warmth. This blend is like a mix of Pa-Pow and Strawberry Moon (minus the strawberries, of course). I love this, I need more. :wub2:

  10. Like others, I was hoping for some tobacco but this is almost single note green tea on me, with touches of warm wood. I do love tea blends so I can deal with it, it is very fresh and pretty, but I'm still disappointed that I don't get any tobacco since tobacco is one of my favorite notes. Hopefully aging this brings the tobacco out. I'll keep the decant for sure but I won't get a bottle since I already own lots of other tea blends.

  11. What the heck, I put this on and at first it's beautiful florals and then almost immediately it goes soap me. Lillies, roses, and cherry blossoms all work with my skin chem individually, I guess as a group they overwhelm my chem too much??? I mean, it's not terrible but I wasn't expecting it to smell like I rubbed a bar of soap on my wrists. I'll keep the decant but no bottle for me.

  12. Man, I was so sure this would be perfect, as I quite like cherry blossom and sweet pea is pretty much my favorite floral. Unfortunately, the cream does not work well on my skin and it drowns out the florals. :-( It almost smells good, it really does, but something in there (vanilla? coconut?) is giving off platic vibes. Not full on plastic but enough to bother me. I think I might keep my decant, it might just need a bit of aging, but I don't think there'll be a bottle in my future.

  13. In the wet stage this blend pretty much a dead ringer for Autumn Lace, and Autumn Lace is one of my top 3 blends. :wub2: As it dries, the golden warmth of the honey emerges and the tobacco becomes the rich, slightly smoky caramel sort that is very much like the French Tobacco SN. At full dry it's a bit greener and cleaner and fairly masculine, but it's just so comfortable that I don't mind that it no longer smells like Autumn Lace or French Tobacco.

I really like this blend, I'm glad I snagged a bottle before it was dc'd!

  14. Wow, this is almost all lime on me while wet and during the first stages of the drydown. Fruits can go candy on me so of course this smells like a lime lollipop, haha. It's not bad though, it's actually pretty nostalgic. Our local bank used to give out lollipops when I was a kid and every time I went with my mom I'd get a lemon or lime lollipop. :-)

As it dries, there's a bitter touch of matcha and a thin blanket of white musk which deepens the blend overall and softens the edges of the candy smell. Later on the hibiscus emerges, and while it's rather faint it adds a lovely floral sweetness that further reduces the candy smell.

I quite like this! I think it's a little too childish for regular wear, and it's not really a me sort of blend, but I think this will be nice for sunbathing in the yard on hot summer days. Glad I got an imp before it was DC'd. :D

  15. Man, this started out so beautifully. It was warm and smooth with a touch of spice but then patchouli decided to misbehave and amber turned to powder and now it's just. Eugh.

If you have the sort of skin chem that can handle amber and patch this will probably be fantastic on you.

  16. Okay, I'll play. It's been a while since I stuck my nose in the forums, and I really should remedy that! :) My top 5 in no particular order, and good gosh but it isn't easy picking these! are:

    Morocco

    Dragon's Eye

    Dragon's Bone

    Cicuta

    October 2011

that doesn't even get into the scents I love but have to be in a specific sort of mood to wear, or the ones that aren't quite in the top 5 but are still marvelous, or... Ah heck. Anyway. runners up, for further information, are Helena, Juniper Hairstreak, Rose Red 2011, Squirting Cucumber and Anne Bonnie.

For October 2011, I'd suggest A World Where There Are Octobers from this past Weenie update. It's similar to October but I find it less sharp overall. :-)

  17. Oh, this is neat!

My current top five, in no particular order:

    Autumn Lace

    Wolf Spider

    The Ghost Children

    Redoul Honey

    Port Royal

I'm not completely familiar with a lot of the blends in the other posts for apologies for not recommending anything at the moment!

Since I am a sweet French tobacco addict I can help you with some autumn lace loves! Like perversion, variety of easing amusements. Also want to add womb furie.

Also look for silver stream, holy water, and the best is llaidan and cuthuir, you may like her voice too.

Thank you for all the recs! I'm surprised I've never looked into A Variety of Pleasing Amusements in particular, that looks like my kind of blend. :-)

  18.

I'd suggest Endymion, Fairy Bites, and if you're open to something a bit darker, Tavern of Hell, which is like the darker, twisted sibling of Le Revenant.

I think you'd really enjoy Vain Sorceress and Summer Lace.

Thank you for the suggestions! Fairy Bites and Vain Sorceress sound especially lovely. :)

I tested Vain Sorceress today and I can vouch that it is indeed lovely!

Actually, if white florals work really well on you, I say try the Ghost Children and the Silver Stream. Both are absolutely gorgeous.

  19. Oh, this is neat!

My current top five, in no particular order:

    Autumn Lace

    Wolf Spider

    The Ghost Children

    Redoul Honey

    Port Royal

I'm not completely familiar with a lot of the blends in the other posts for apologies for not recommending anything at the moment!

For you I would say Schmendrick, Lawful, Wings of Azrael, Bewitched, and Lamia.

    My top 5 are:

    Tavern of Hell

    R'Lyeh

    Light of Men's Lives

    No. 93 Engine

(aged) Defututa (less cinnamon-y, more tropical)

Thank you for the recs! I've never tried any of those but they all look pretty good, Schmendrick in particular.

As for you, I'm only familiar with No. 93 Engine. I say try Hand of Glory if you like that one. :-)

  20. Thank you, Dark Alice, for the decant! Finally getting around to reviewing this. :P

In the imp: Bright, sweet florals, and a faint touch of vanilla. Very nice. :-)

Wet: Wow, this is just gorgeous. It's smooth and warm, sweet and musky. It's like walking through sun-dappled woods filled with beautiful white flowers. :wub2:

Drydown: Much of the same. I was worried about the amber but this is still all flowers and vanilla musk with a faint touch of caraway.

Dry: There's a bit of powdery amber now, but luckily it's in the background. Still mostly lovely white florals and musky vanilla.

Verdict? I very much like this, but I don't think I'll seek out a bottle, as I already have a couple of other lovely white floral blends. I might try to snag another imp, though. :D

  21. Oh, this is nice. It's predominately vanilla and honey embraced by warm spices and it doesn't morph much. It smells like a rich dessert, like a small spice cake with thick vanilla cream and warm honey poured over it. :yum:

Vanilla sometimes becomes plastic on me, but it's behaving very well in this blend.

The longer this is on, the more it smells like O minus the powdery amber.

I really like this blend, it's wonderful. :wub2:

    [EDIT]

Ok, I usually don't slather when I review, I just place a dab or two on my wrist, but after I finished my review I went and slathered and it smells even more like O than I thought. It's really awesome because I adore O but the amber can get super powdery on me. If you're like me and have been longing for O without amber, you have to give this a try. It might be exactly what you're looking for. :D

  22. I really want to love this because I adore Florence, it's one of my favorite cities in the world, but... well, this is a no. I have two imps of different ages and one is powdery and the other is powdery and sour. I know amber and fresh fruits are iffy but I was still hoping this blend would work. :-( It extra sucks because I can smell something lovely behind all the yuck but it just can't break through. Oh, well.

  23. Got a frimp of this from a lovely forumite!

Still on a hunt to find a coconut that works. Multiple people recommended this one. Let's see how it works out.

In the imp: Yum. Creamy coconut and salt and sugar. It's like an interesting cocktail a beachside bartender whipped up on a whim.

Wet: Sweet, smooth, a touch musky from the ambergris. A hint of plastic from the coconut, but overall this ain't bad!

Drydown: There's a dark, sensual something casting a shadow over this. Very interesting. I feel like the plastic from the coconut is getting a touch stronger, though. Well, only on my left hand, on my right it's still fairly subdued, haha. Prob because I used a moisturizer on my right hand before testing this?

Dry: Muskier than before. Beautiful marine musk with a touch of salt and coconut with a touch of plastic.

Further on: Oh no. The sugar starts getting a bit gross. It's reminding me of Sprinklecake, which didn't quite work on me.

Well, I'd like to do maybe one or two more tests, but this looks like it's gonna wind up in the swap pile. Sigh.

  24. Got a frimp of this from a lovely forumite. :wub2:

This was a wishlist item and I want to say it was because of my Classical Studies degree but it's actually because I named one of my Pokemon Tisiphone. I am a nerd.

Anyway, black patch is a note that I have had issues with, but it's not really a huge problem in this blend. This is mostly lovely ylang-ylang over a layer of neroli. There's a gorgeous white sweetness I'm catching that is likely the oleander, which is a note I'm not that familiar with. The only proof that there is black patch in here is a vague powder lingering in the background. Enough to notice but not enough to completely ruin the blend.

Verdict? Not entirely me so no bottle, but I do enjoy this enough to keep the imp and maybe snag a second imp. :D
