  1. On me, this has the faintest hint of rose - as if I was wearing rose perfume hours and hours ago, and while it's melted off, there's a teensy hint of it. Or I washed my hands with rose soap.

    It's subtle, and fades fast.

Which is a shame, as I like it. It smells pink. Milled soap or a full glass of water with two drops of red food coloring. Faintly pink.

Definately something to keep in the arsenal when my standard techniques fail.

I don't know if I want a whole bottle of this - it isn't something I'd wear often, but I think I will try to always keep an imp around.

  2. As long as my order arrives safe and sound, I don't care if the oils come in pink penis-shaped bottles.  :D

Hmm....that would be kinda cute though, you think?  :P

The only problem with those is that I'd feel compelled to display them somewhere - no cool darkness (well, unless they were on my work desk with the rest of the collection).

    *giggle*

  3. Hemlock:

This infamous herb has a long, complex history: it has been used in spells of death and destruction, was a principal component in traditional witches' flying ointments, and was the poison used to put the philosopher Socrates to death. We have created a dark, profound herbal blend to personify and honor this wicked little plant.

(Many, many thanks to Quantum Spice for finding the description!)

It's a bright spring green, lemony herbal scent.

Wet, this is reminding me of Burt's Bees bug spray, but is far nicer. Smoother.

Drying, Wonderfully unisex. I'd love to smell this on a guy, and it's something I'll happily wear, as well.

I'm going to want a bottle of this.

    ---

The one I reviewed wasn't quite like the 5ml I got - there's an evergreen note in the full version that wasn't there in the initial imp I recieved.

Truthfully, I prefer the tree-free version, and may wind up swapping my 5ml. :P

I *adore* the first version of this, and will use the imp sparingly so as to keep it longer.

  4. In the bottle: This smells like the lemon dishsoap my grandmother always used. I used to add glycerin and a teeny bit of water, and use it to blow bubbles with.

On: Whoops. lemon pledge. It smells like a Sunday afternoon, stuck inside doing housework.

If I get myself an oil burner, maybe I'll hang onto this. It'd do nicely as a room scent.

Drying: Less lemony. This is a very good thing. Almost a spicy floral. Still yellow, though.

Dry: Very faint, quite lovely. The lemon stages aren't very pleasant for me, but if I can make it though, the dry scent is wonderful.

  5. I wasn't really going to try this - opened the imp, confirmed "yep, that's chocolate. It smells like a cookie.", but curiosity got the better of me, and onto the back of my hand it went.

It dries to a powdery chocolate smell on me - like a chocolate-scented marker I used to have. If you like smelling like chocolate, you'll love this.

Until I took a bath and finally got it off me, the cravings were so bad that I had two big spoonfuls of the hot fudge that I'm supposed to be saving for dessert tomorrow.

  6. As soon as this hit my skin, all I could envision was this painting.

I'm not getting the fresh green that other people are, though it's a comforting scent (unlike that painting, which always gave me the creeps.)

If this had a touch of bayberry, it would be the smell of my paternal grandparents' house when I was growing up. They were surrounded by cornfields belonging to the neighbor's dairy farm.

  7. In the bottle: On, I can smell that wine all right!

On: Ohmy. This is decadent. Silky rose is exactly the word for it. Wow.

Drying: this is NOT a daytime scent - I don't put much stock in night/day scents (I wear what feels right, regardless of the hour), but this is something to annonit oneself with only at night, while dressed in something slinky. Dark, heady. Delicious.

I'm thinking that a 5ml of this is in my future.

  8. In the bottle: Musky, with a little bit of dragonsblood.

On, Wet: About the same. The dragonsblood is slightly more prevalent.

I would love this on a man, and I think that my current is going to be umm... encouraged to try it. A little spicy, a little dragonsbloody. Very nice.

Drying : Slightly confusing scent - it's pleasant, but doesn't seem to know where it wants to go. I'll try it on the boy and see if it responds to his chemistry any better.

Dry: The slightest hint of bitter, with almost a metallic bite. It's very unisex on me - I don't know if I'm keeping it or not - I like it, but I don't know what mood it would suit.

  9. In the bottle: Sharp and herbal.

On, wet: like weeding the herb section of the garden without the soil. Minty, green, biting. It's a little tingly on my skin, actually.

Dry: Very clean. It doesn't last on me, unfortunately. This will be a wonderful summer scent for when I'm overheated and not feeling particularly girly.

I might have to get a bottle of this.

  10. Wet: Almost citrus in brightness. This would be an amazing soap.

Dry: I thought this was just going to be another nice light scent, but not a standout, but I was *wrong* - this is divine. There's a lemon-like intensity to it. Fresh and clean. It'd be perfect for days that no matter how often you shower, you still feel gucky.

I need to try this as a room scent, too.

  11. Wet: Mmm. Oakmoss. Earthy. Athsma-inducing. Damn.

We'll see if this develops - the water is off (hot water heater is getting replaced this morning) so I can't go wash it off.

Nope. Still causing severe tightening of the sinuses and lungs by the smell alone.

Into the swap pile, then. Wish I could give it a proper try.

  12. Wet: Almond! I smell like a cookie.

The almond dies down very quickly, thankfully. I really don't like smelling like baked goods. It's gone to a bitter, bright cinnamon. Nice.

    I've smelled this before.

And I've pegged the scent. It's the cinnamon almond scent that permeates the Dicken's Faire, but less sweet.

  13. Wet: Very perfumy. Rather heady. I hope I like this one, because the imp spat when I opened it and got my dress and keyboard.

On: It smells like something very expensive and ritzy that my grandmother would wear.

Dry: This one doesn't seem to change much. Not sure if that's a good sign or bad. I imagine that it'd drive guys wild - it's that kind of scent, but it isn't really me.

  14. In the bottle: It smells like tea.

On: Oh yum! Three notes that I enjoy, combined beautifully. It smells like a combination of the incenses I usually burn.

Dry: Where'd it go? Very subtle. I literally have to be looking for it with my nose to smell it. It's lovely, though I'd like it more if it were stronger.

  15. In the bottle: Hard to describe, but not promising.

On, wet: Sweet! Smells like violet gum tastes, with a good backing of clove.

Drying: The clove is gone. It's almost all violet. Far less sweet.

Dry: It's sweetened up again. It's not as violently so, but it's still sweet in a way that doesn't work on me. Slightly soapy. Still, very nice, and I think a few of my friends will adore it.

    Some serious staying power, too.

  16. In the bottle: hard-edged jasmine.

On: Rich. Dark. Has the same candy note that makes my teeth itch that Lust has. It must be the myrrh. I can see myself wearing this when I'm in one of my more sadistic moods.

Dry: Oh yes. Lovely. It smells like something I've worn recently, though I don't know which. Rosey and Jasminey and floral and good.

I don't know about a bottle, but I'm definately keeping the imp.

  17. Wet: Oh. Lovely! Rosy, femmy, but strong. "Don't get in my way - I'm a girl and I can kick you despite the lace."

Drying: Sophisticated rose. It seems to be staying fairly close to the skin. Sort of an incensey rose. A keeper.

  18. I want to love this.

But there's something in there that is going weird on me.

It smells like incense on me - like the back room of the little middle eastern jewelry shop I like, which is a positive association, but not something I want to smell like.

It's got a weird under-scent that makes my molars itch. Sort of amber-ish, without the powdery smell.

It's been a loooooong while since I wrote that.

    I've done a complete 180 on Scherezade.

I'd swapped my orginal imp, and finally re-ordered it, because I'd been craving it for some reason.

Now I've got a 5ml on order, and I'm about to finish my imp.

Incense and spice and a heady, heavy cloud of glorious scent follows me around when I wear this, and I'm loving it totally.

I feel decadent and capable and confident.

  19. My initial impression was "oriental orange" - very earthy and sensual scent.

I'm not one for food scents, but this is something that I wouldn't mind smelling like in the least.

I'm not sure if I'm going to want a large bottle or not, though I will be using up my imp.

    ---

It's been a very long time since I wrote that.

I've since used up the imp, started in on a second, and have ordered a 5ml.

Carnal is one of my favorites right now - it's perfect when it's too hot to wear Persephone, and will be extra yummy when it gets cooler. I'm finding that I really quite like the smell of figs, and while yes, I'm still iffy on foody scents, I don't mind smelling figgy in the least.

This one gets me complements from women.

  20. lavender / lemon / lemongrass /orange / mint / sweet pea

This arrived tonight, and I wasted no time in sticking my nose into the bottle - my first impression was flowery mint, very refreshing.

On, it stayed minty for a little while, but then seemed to alternate being a not-too-sweet floral and minty bright.
It's still doing it, actually. A minute ago, I smelled a bright, clear floral, and now I'm getting something that smells like soap.

I don't think I'd consider it a unisex scent, but it isn't outrageously feminine.
    I like this very much.
This is going to be a great summer scent.

  21. Name: Jeni

URL: my journal, my personal site (in desperate need of attention and an update), my corset site (also in need of updates and inoperative until the next move. Stupid Landlord. :P)

    Photo: clicky here

Sin: Wrath. I love getting up a good mad. Though Lust really IS the pick of the litter.

    Virtue: Loyalty, most likely.

Astro: Gemini, Virgo rising, Leo moon

I found BPAL: I remember seeing the site forever ago, and never had the money to order anything, though I was lusting after quite a few scents. Re-found it through a review on Chateau Bizarre, ordered a few things, and was completely hooked.

Comments: I love the way that Elizabeth connects with her customers - it makes me feel like I'm part of some strange and glorious loosely-knit family. And even when everything seems like it's falling around her ears, she *still* comes through. How could anyone not respond to that sort of devotion?

  22. I got this in a swap, and ohmy!

It was very berrylike in the bottle, and first on, but then it just goes perfect.

Sweet, but not cloying. Strong, but not overwhelming.

For a short while, I thought I smelled a just-peeled orange, though I have no idea where it could have come from.

And, a bonus. This one stayed! I admit I did refresh before leaving work (got to smell nice for the 'verts on the bus, you know...), but before I left work, I was still catching hints of it wafting up from my clevage.
