Looking for scents that smell like chai

Old Morocco goes fairly chai-like on me. Wrath doesn't (though it's yummy anyhow) Sereglio didn't smell like chai at all to me.

    Scherezade

I want to love this. But there's something in there that is going weird on me. It smells like incense on me - like the back room of the little middle eastern jewelry shop I like, which is a positive association, but not something I want to smell like. It's got a weird under-scent that makes my molars itch. Sort of amber-ish, without the powdery smell. --- It's been a loooooong while since I wrote that. I've done a complete 180 on Scherezade. I'd swapped my orginal imp, and finally re-ordered it, because I'd been craving it for some reason. Now I've got a 5ml on order, and I'm about to finish my imp. Incense and spice and a heady, heavy cloud of glorious scent follows me around when I wear this, and I'm loving it totally. I feel decadent and capable and confident.

    Carnal

My initial impression was "oriental orange" - very earthy and sensual scent. I'm not one for food scents, but this is something that I wouldn't mind smelling like in the least. I'm not sure if I'm going to want a large bottle or not, though I will be using up my imp. --- It's been a very long time since I wrote that. I've since used up the imp, started in on a second, and have ordered a 5ml. Carnal is one of my favorites right now - it's perfect when it's too hot to wear Persephone, and will be extra yummy when it gets cooler. I'm finding that I really quite like the smell of figs, and while yes, I'm still iffy on foody scents, I don't mind smelling figgy in the least. This one gets me complements from women.

    Input, please!

Name: Jeni URL: my journal, my personal site (in desperate need of attention and an update), my corset site (also in need of updates and inoperative until the next move. Stupid Landlord. ) Photo: clicky here Sin: Wrath. I love getting up a good mad. Though Lust really IS the pick of the litter. Virtue: Loyalty, most likely. Astro: Gemini, Virgo rising, Leo moon I found BPAL: I remember seeing the site forever ago, and never had the money to order anything, though I was lusting after quite a few scents. Re-found it through a review on Chateau Bizarre, ordered a few things, and was completely hooked. Comments: I love the way that Elizabeth connects with her customers - it makes me feel like I'm part of some strange and glorious loosely-knit family. And even when everything seems like it's falling around her ears, she *still* comes through. How could anyone not respond to that sort of devotion?

    Lady MacBeth

I got this in a swap, and ohmy! It was very berrylike in the bottle, and first on, but then it just goes perfect. Sweet, but not cloying. Strong, but not overwhelming. For a short while, I thought I smelled a just-peeled orange, though I have no idea where it could have come from. And, a bonus. This one stayed! I admit I did refresh before leaving work (got to smell nice for the 'verts on the bus, you know...), but before I left work, I was still catching hints of it wafting up from my clevage.

    Morocco

Today is another gray, icky day. I wanted something that would warm me up and make me feel like the decadent, exotic creature that I am. Heh. I'd say that Old Morocco does the job. I like this very much. Sweet, spicy, delicious. I wonder what it tastes like! I don't know that I'm seeing (smelling?) winds coming off the desert in this one, but it's warm and exotic. This is one of those perfumes that I've been waiting my whole life for and didn't realize it. Definately on the big bottle list.

    Lust

In the bottle, this smells like some sort of tangy candy that I'd kill to get my hands on. Yum! On, it's still candylike, but far less innocent. I'm very tempted to make some sort of spray from this and spray my sheets. I have to agree - Elizabeth nailed this one. Yow. (I decided to try Lust while getting dressed this morning, and let the scent inspire my clothes. I *did* tone it down a little, as I've got to go to work, but the initial impulse included a corset and lots of sheer bits. And eyeliner, dark lipstick (I usually don't wear makeup), and my hair unbound and wild. I can't wait to see how the Crush reacts to this one! I may yet get that date.) edit: I have to add, this one doesn't stick on my skin for more than two hours at a time, which is a slight disapointment, but it means that I get to reapply and smell like naughty candy, which is fun. And no reaction from Crushboy. *sigh*. At least, not yet. He's getting a wrist thrust in his face later, with a smile and asked what he thinks of the scent once most everyone else has gone home.

    Bordello

In the bottle, this was very berrylike and bubbly. A happy smell. Since today is gray and icky, I decided that I'd try this. On, it darkened up a little, but not much. I could smell the Amaretto. Dry, it's very incensy. I like it quite a lot, though it is something I have to be very close to to smell. This will be a good one for crummy days that need a lift.

    Alice

In the bottle: First sniff - oh, you'll hate me for this one, but it smells like the bathrooms at the summer camp I used to go to. Toothpaste and disinfectant. On: Urk. Yes. Disinfectant. A little spice coming out. That's got to be the carnation. Drying: Maybe it's the honey I don't like in this. I can't say that I've ever given much thought to the smell of honey, or to milk, either, though the scent of milk should be comforting, I think. I love the other three notes. But there's something in here that is throwing my nose off and partially masking the things I do like. Dry: This is better. Spicy, clean. A lingering hint of the honey that I didn't care for, but not as overwhelming. It smells like a good cup of chai.

    Pride

In the bottle: Ohhh. Narcissus. I haven't smelled one of those in forever. We had them in the garden at the house I grew up in. Not smelling the rose at all. On: There's that rose. It's peeking out slightly, though I'm still more aware of the narcissus. Drying: Wow. I don't know about vanity, but this is definately making me want to hold my head high. Dry: A perfect blending of rose and narcissus. I love this. It feels a little too rich for a day-to-day scent, but would be perfect for going out for a nice evening. Verdict: I don't know if I'm getting a large bottle, but I'll definately use up the sample.

    Othello

In the bottle: Spicy rose. Yum! Heady, but not too feminine. On: More perfumy. I'm liking this very much. Rich. Drying: The rose is the prominent note now, with the spice hiding behind and peeking out. I'm not getting a masculine vibe from this scent, but it isn't particularly girly. Not unisex, though. Dry: Very faint. The spice is easier to smell now. I'm keeping this one - the scent doesn't last long on me, but I like it all the way through.

    O

In the bottle: Vanilla, but much darker and drier. Almost innocent. Night-vanilla. Not so very sweet. On: The same, but duskier. I almost want to say oatmeal cookie, without the oatmeal. It's a thick, slow scent. Viscous. It feels like it's got weight behind it, and if you get in its way, it'll ooze around you and carry you along. Drying: Less sticky. More of the scent of a closed-up room where something secret has happened. The amber and honey seem to be keeping the vanilla from doing it's usual headache-sweet-scream thing on me. Dry: The scent has settled down a little more. It's almost all amber now. Very dry scent. Almost alcoholic smelling.

    Cheshire Cat

In the bottle: Pleasantly bright. Very cheerful. On: Am I smelling mint under those other scents? Slightly manic smelling. I'm definately getting the grin. It's very clean. Dry: Fruity and clean. Very bright, with a whisper of musk underneath. A cheery scent. Very pink. I like this, but I don't see myself wearing it.

    Wrath

In the bottle: Wow that's red! It smells vaguely sharp, in almost a doctor's office sort of way. (That isn't a bad thing - it's comforting to me, as I worked in one for several years.) On: It sweetens up considerably. It must be the Dragon's Blood I'm smelling - it's what I would expect a red lily to smell like. The clove is starting to emerge slightly. It's very candylike. My wrist smells quite like the metaphysical bookstore I used to frequent. Dry: It's gone deep. Rich. Darker. For a short while, I could find the pepper, but it's hiding again. I no longer smell like East West Books, and just smell good. Longevity: It's been on about 2-3 hours, only a teeny bit on one wrist, but it's very faded. The scent is still the rich, dark thing it changed into, but I have to look for it. This is decidedly going on my 'buy a big bottle' list.

    Persephone

I knew I couldn't go wrong with Persephone - I adore pomegranates and I love roses. But the two days I've worn it this week, my office crush has been in near constant orbit around my desk. It goes on juicy and lush, and dries to a veil of sweet, but not too sweet. I don't smell either rose or pomegrante in particular, just this wonderful blend of floral fruit without being too much either way. It does fade out on me, though. It's got a life of about 5 hours or so before I can't smell it anymore.

    Snake Oil

In the bottle: This is so not me. Not sure why - it's just not meshing with who I am. Initial: Eeek! Vanilla! I forgot about that, and it's probably the thing that bugged me. I am not a fan of vanilla, and now I smell like cotton candy. Only darker. After an hour or so: Yep. Dark vanilla. Less cotton candy now, but it's giving me a headache. I smell like one of those flavored sugars you can get for coffee. I guess I'll be a dissenting voice and say that I don't particularly care for this one, or it doesn't like me - it doesn't want to work with my body chemistry. I tried to give Snake Oil a fair shot, but couldn't take it anymore. I layered some Anne Bonny over it to cut the sweetness. I'm still getting hints of vanilla, though. If I wasn't heading out the door in twenty minutes, I'd probably take another shower.

    Seraglio

The almond and orange are what always hit me about this one. It's a more innocent scent than it seems like it'd be - good for when you don't feel quite so dramatically sexy or just want to tease rather than devastate. I sometimes wear this on dates or to work, but always wind up feeling that I smell like a pastry.

    Black Rose

I liked Black Rose, but found that after a few hours, it turned very cloying on me.
