  1. White rose marred by oakmoss, Spanish moss, slippery labdanum, and gurjum balsam.

Another amazing rose scent from Beth! I usually do not like florals, and until last year I HATED all roses with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. But something happened and while decanting for others, I discovered a few rose scents that I not only can physically tolerate without nausea, but that I indeed enjoy LOL. This is another. I really dig moss and oak moss and they add a great non-quite green but real earthy vibe to the roses here. While there is no mistaking the rose in here, I think those who prefer rose to be dominated by other non-florals will enjoy this one.

  2. I was expecting so much more from this than I got wet, so was sort of disappointed, but after about 20 min I realized it had morphed into something I rather liked. I still have not been able to discern what, exactly, is carrot seed, and this confounds me, but the amber and musk combine here to make a gentle and comforting scent, rather like an old cashmere scarf wrapped around your neck to keep out the winter chill.

  3. I think that's a great swap Aiobhan! Even within the US there are such vast areas of difference, it'd be fun to see what everyone puts together....

and kakiphony, I think rural northern Michigan sounds like the perfect summer home :) I lived in Ann Arbor for years but only made it north once, and was a guest of someone's on Mackinaw Island so I didn't get to explore as much as I wanted. Then soon after I moved back to Chicago after my mom got sick. I've been homesick for MI ever since. I sure miss getting cherries at the farmer's market!!

  4. This was a real morpher! Started as straight up anise and cassia and honestly, I was surprised I didn't get pink marks from that strong cassia. The cassia calmed down a bit after the initial dry down to get a glimpse of the other notes, but I felt like I was walking around with a bowl of expensive potpourri, not wearing perfume. Later still the cassia came out full force again. This would be a great room scent, but just doesn't cut it for a body scent.

  5. I really enjoyed this when I first got it, but ultimately decided that the vetiver was too strong for me personally and put my BNNU bottle on my sales page, while keeping the decant I had in another bottle. Well I tried this again today and the vetiver has already evolved into a much tamer beast, and the blend is so much more lovely than before! Definitely smoky, vetiver prominent, and all those "black" notes shine through to define the evocation of the scent, but I no longer think of this as necessarily masculine or a room scent. I am now keeping my full bottle and selling the decant!

Also wanted to say that I think it is funny that, patchouli lover I am, I do not get patch in this at all. I know it's not listed in the scent notes, but other reviewers noted it. I think maybe it's that "black" evocation?

  6. This blend whispers cuddles with a small furry animal more than stating flittering butterfly. To my nose it is lovely - well blended and hard to discern individual notes - but just too damn light. Damn. The same scent but stronger would make me very happy indeed, but even slathering I find it just too light.

  7. At first this smells orange - all fresh orange like when you open a ripe juicy orange and it's running down your hands before you can eat it, with just the faintest hints of something else in the background, if you really look for it. But after that orange blast settles down (and largely disappears), what's left is amazingly gorgeous hay/tobacco that is all win-win to my skin and nose both. There are a lot of great scents in this update, but this one is my fav by far.

  8. I wish I got more vanilla from this, because it is mostly the smoked and spiced aspects that stand out on me. Smoked, spiced tobacco. It's lovely, but I wanted more vanilla. And stronger maybe? This'll be a great skin scent, the kind that will make your sweetie say you smell great, not ask you what perfume you're wearing today.

  9. This one just makes me feel like I am wrapped in my favorite afghan, sipped a mug of hot yummy tea.....yet I don't get the emotional associations that foody scents usually give me. That's a good thing, as I don't generally like to smell like food lol. Quite comforting and gentle, like a hug from your sweetie :)

  10. Blah, was sitting at my desk, had an idea kind of like the ATC swap but with altoid tins. Decorate/trick out an altoid tin for someone.

Is this something anyone would be interested in? Also, do people think it should be a one to one swap or like the ATC swap, where each person makes several for different people so everyone winds up with a pile of tins?

I've done similar things, though never an altoid tin - it is lots of fun, and I would be up to that :)

  11. A Halloween-themed ATC swap would be awesome!

FragranceLush, the way the swaps on here were being done before, all that was required was a 2.5x3.5" card in a regular envelope-- to keep it low cost and for international mailing. But, if there was interest, I see no reason why there couldn't be a round that was more like a mini-package swap, with an ATC and a few little things around a theme. That might be really fun. :D

I'm surprised the ATCs made it - I've been in swaps where folks didn't follow directions to use padded envelopes and the usps machinery popped those cards right out of regular envelopes. Once you get done with them, they are really too dimensional to mail that way, at least the ones I have seen.

Just for fun, here's some Halloween ones I made with alcohol inks and paper layering on clear acrylic blanks: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skeinbrain/5130512390/

  12. Usagi, I love the idea of ATC swaps but there seemed to be no interest before? I was on another board where we did them almost monthly, and I have a huge binder with everything I got from those. Alas, that online community went bad and I no longer have cool ATC swaps :(

Some folks mentioned doing lone on one ATC swaps but it hardly seems worth the postage? You can't send them in a regular envelope, at least not the kinds I make - they get pouched right out with the modern machinery.

  13. Don't panic yet - my month old order shipped today, and a bunch of others that ordered around the same time are just starting to trickle out. There's been a brutal backlog this last month but it looks like things are starting to roll, so hopefully in the next week you'll hear from them, if not the next couple days. It stinks, this waiting, but at least we know the final product is worth it :)

  14. I concur with hexatomic's comparison to IBT hair gloss BUT I am amazed no one has compared this to Tricksy yet. The oude here smells to me identical to the aquilaria aguillocha in Tricksy. Though I am a total patchouli ho, I do not miss it here, either - this is lovely and lasted all day on my skin. It's a gentle, comforting scent. I already have a full bottle on its way to me.

  15. I have two scents I got in a swap that have been put into roller ball bottles. I HATE them because it's impossible to get the amount of oil you want. It's either too little or too much. And it's sad because they are both great scents! I really like want caps myself, but plain lids work fine, too. It I was traveling with scent, I think I'd just use imps then, but I don't so it's not an issue for me.

  16. Are there crafty folks here who do ATCs? I was thinking of doing a weenie themed ATC swap (that's HALLOWEEN LOL) but wasn't sure if there's be enough interest?

I was on another forum, that sort of dissolved, where we did a bunch and had a lot of fun with it. Basically, limit was capped at about 15-24 folks, and everyone sent the host as many ATCs as there were participants, and postage for their return. The host divvied them up so everyone was then sent one of each. Postage is usually less that way than if everyone sends everyone a single ATC.......

I have this awesome album filled with ATCs from all over on a variety of themes, they are so cool to pull out and look at once in a while!

edited because alas, I craft better than I type.......
