  1. JazzieCazzie- I LOVE Crabtree & Evelyn's Goat Milk line! I've used the body wash, body lotion, and hand cream. The hand cream was especially awesome, but I can't seem to find it anymore. I've never found anything, BPAL or otherwise, that smells like it. You mentioned Nonae Caprotina. I have and love that scent, but it is not like Goat Milk. Candles Moon & Werepuppy both remind me of Nonae Caprotina, but do not remind me of Goat Milk. I've never sniffed Milk Moon, but I'd like to. Another line you might enjoy is Archipelago Botanical's Soy Milk. They also offer soap, body wash, body lotion, and creams.

ps- there's a bottle of Nonae Caprotina on ebay right now. It's quite a bit sweeter than Goat Milk & Archipelago Botanical's Soy Milk, but I really do love it.

  2. Is Haloes still available anywhere? Or is it discontinued?

    thanks in advance!

I made a panicked Haloes/Lucifer order when it was announced that the Salons were being discontinued. She didn't think the Retail Salons would be affected, but wasn't absolutely certain. I've placed a few orders over the phone with her, and she's awesome. Tracking was provided, as well. If you call, let us know!

  3. Hexennacht 2008 is very, very different from Hexennacht 2005. I much prefer the 2008 version.

This scent evokes very specific mental imagery for me: The pristine, glorious, rolling landscape of Northeast Switzerland. Glowing and sparkling with life. Clean and pure. Color? That special rosy golden glow of sunset illuminating the tops of spring green trees.

The scent, to my nose, is equal parts: fir trees, muted floral, and body musk. A light sheen of sweat on a body which is musky, despite the crisp, cool air, after walking the Wanderweg. The florals are muted, wild, living, and sweetly green. And the forest is softly fresh and unspoiled. Invigorating.

May Day is one of my favorite celebratory days, and Hexennacht 2008 encapsulates, for me, that day more than it does the night before. I don't smell darkness or icyness or bonfires. I smell a solitary clean, warm body walking through a majestic mountainous landscape under a technicolor blue sky. A clear mind at one with and in awe of the surrounding world. Reverence for the natural world seems an inherent part of celebrations such as Hexennacht/Walpurgisnacht and May Day, and that focus is very well represented in Hexennacht 2008.

  4. OctoberGwen & Elka: Thank you so much for posting those pics!

The Water Snake notes aren't good for me at all. Still the classic label & the fact that I'm enamoured by all things "snake," makes a bottle somewhat tempting. Isn't that ridiculous?

Sadly, nope: I had the same urge!

    Haha. I need help. ( Shitfire! :) )

  5. I would love to know if that's actually the case though (ie that bottle is ooooooooold) so hopefully someone else will be able to confirm!

See, I don't know. I would have assumed a trunk show, or something along those lines. Maybe Etsy, even. Maybe I need to go check Etsy...

And hopefully someone will come along with some more information.

    Thanks again, SSDB!

  6. Thank you, SSDB. I just knew I could count on you!

I've ordered a few bottles of Crowley from the lab after I received these. They all look like yours. I ordered the bottle of Aziraphale on 02.05.12 from LJ's PARTYLLAMA_LALA and just assumed that's what Aziraphale looks like. Then I received a forum/LJ/eBay bottle of Crowley with the same creepy bird hands. So I'd assume they're older. Which might explain the more pronounced leather note...

Anyhoo... Thanks for your input on Smut as well. My notes said 2006 or 2007. But I wasn't sure.

You're always friendly & helpful & make me happy when you pop in. And I totally stole your black circle labels w/ gold ink idea. It was a really good one :)

  7. Hello :)

I'm hoping someone might be able to provide me w/ some info on these bottles. I've only the one bottle of Aziraphale, but the artwork on this bottle of Crowley is unlike any of the others I've ordered from the lab. It also seems to have a slightly more pronounced leather note. Please let me know if the pics don't show up. I'm computer-challenged...

Also, any idea which year this bottle of Smut is from?

  8. Hi :) Some of my favorite woody scents:

An Altar to Cold, Rigid Dreadful Death

    Anne Bonny

    Antikythera Mechanism

    Aureus

    Carceri d'Invenzione

    Cathedral

    Heavenly Love & Earthly Love

    Heretic

    Kathmandu

    Lucifer

    Magus

    Oak Moon

The Pit & The Pendulum (mostly cedar to me)

    Sri Lanka

My first thought for the green scent was Belladonna...

    Mandrake

    Strangler Fig

    Yggdrasil

  9. The Pit & The Pendulum. Reviews vary, but this was very cedar dominant on my skin. Lucky for me, because I love cedar, too.

Seconding Kathmandu, Antikythera Mechanism, & The Bow & Crown of Conquest.

Also, Heretic. Doesn't have sandalwood listed as a note, but I've received sooo many compliments on that one. Two of the people who loved it thought it was a sandalwood blend. And one of those people was a candle maker.

  10. Seconding Crowley.

I always enjoy reading your enthusiastic posts, Ella LaRose, and it seems your favorites (aside from clove notes and Voodoo which I've yet to sample) are also my favorites. Crowley is my very favorite BPAL leather. Followed closely by The Bow & The Crown of Conquest and also Tezcatlipoca.

    Disclaimer: I've not smelled Winchester

  11. I vote for keeping a large stash of mint chewing gum handy. Trident or Extra. Fills your mouth, mask, & sinuses & is good against the pervasive stink & unsettled stomach. Helped me in the anatomy lab & helps now when I see pts with really juicy necrotic ulcerative wounds or cancers.

Lemon soap when you wash up afterwards is helpful, too.

I love mah BPALs to much to create those scent associations and aversions.

I'm so glad you're enjoying your training. Have fun!

  12. Hi, Legrillon :)

Little Lion Man is such a great song. Can't say it triggers any scent memories for me, but it's funny you mention Ani DiFranco. My scent preferences lean toward incense, patchouli, earth, & musk. Generally darker, dirty, or smutty tempered with a bit o' sweetness. From time to time, when I receive a decant that's floral or fruity or girly, I'll think to myself... "Hm. That's nice enough. Smells like a clean, pretty girl." Then the lyrics to "Not A Pretty Girl" will pop into my head...
