    Where is this scent?

The Vampire Tarot blends are based on short stories by Neil Gaiman, so they're under his section. If you look at the menu on the main page, there's a section of all of the co-branded lines, with a link for Neil. Once you click on that, it brings up another page with a menu of the different Gaiman lines, and "15 Painted Cards From a Vampire Tarot" is the first thing on that list. --M

    Vieux Carre

How is it that I've never reviewed this one, since it's one of my absolute favorite scents? I don't even remember where I first got a tester of this one, but I've since managed to get my hands on a bottle, and it's one of the very few bottles that would have to be pried out of my hands. It's like Bayou and New Orleans got together and had a lovely smelling baby. It's got the mossiness of Bayou, with the jasmine (yum!) of New Orleans. I get no rose at all from it (nor from New Orleans) but that's most likely because my skin amps jasmine to high hell and back. --M

I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain v1

You know those orange slice candies that are kinda the consistency of the chewy part of jelly beans, and are covered in grains of sugar? These things. Yep, that's what this smells like to me. It's definitely fizzy and citrus (it's orange to me, not lemon). Unfortunately, it dries down super fast, and becomes orange-scented hand-soap on my skin. Not that "soap"="bad" in my world, just that it's unfortunate because I wanted to keep that fizzy orange scent. --M

What do bottles and labels look like?

The only one I bought was Traipsing Through The Crop Circles, so it's the only one I have to share... (Sorry... cellphone pic, so it's blurry and icky...) --M

What do bottles and labels look like?

Yeah, I tried that and it doesn't work, it gives me an error saying that the url needs to end with .gif and my image URLs don't. And they're jpegs. But thanks for trying! ETA: I think maybe it's cause my pics don't end in .jpg either, but....I use LJ to host my pics and I would like to continue doing so, and LJ's pic urls simply don't end in .jpg. Also I believe I have tried to post images in that format before (when they did end in .jpg) and it still didn't work. I've modded forums and post on many, many forums in a variety of codes and this is the only forum that won't let me post pics! Actually, you can fake it with the LJ pictures. The link that you have for your picture is: http://pics.livejournal.com/fairnymph/pic/001h5t6k/s640x480 All you have to do is add '.jpg' to the end of that address, and it should work... So you just have to remember to manually add ".jpg" to the end of the address when you copy and paste it. --M PS: I agree with TwilightEyes... and there are enough of us that work with PhotoShop that I'm sure we could find SOMEONE who'd be willing to make the pictures look vintage for you.

    Are bpal blends all-natural?

Venneh: prefab does not equal synthetic. (at least I don't think it does.) I don't know... the whole "what's the definition of natural and what's the definition of synthetic" question confuses me anyway, but I do think that jayne's question is a different one than the one you're answering. --M

Can one of the mods pull out Beth's response here and sticky it to the top of the whole freaking message board? , Beth. I've never met you, and probably won't ever have the chance unless you decide to visit Chicago (and you're welcome to do so... I'll make dinner! ) but I still (heart) you to pieces. --M

    Copper Phoenix

This is going to sound weird, but this smells like Cracker Barrel to me. I can't figure out what it is that's triggering that association, since I don't get it with other honey or amber blends. I can't pick out any specific notes in this one-- it's just a really nice sweetness (but a tangy sweetness, not a cloying one). I don't get rose (which I usually amp), and I don't get patchouli (which I normally turn up my nose at), and I don't even *really* get honey, although that's probably where the sweetness is mainly coming from. --M

    Tin Phoenix

I'm really glad I don't read the reviews here before I do my testing, for the most part. I'm also glad I didn't check the notes in this one before I sniffed it and thought it interesting enough for a full skin test. Because ozone is one of the notes that make me nauseous and occasionally triggers a migraine... and with all the "This is very ozone-y" reviews, I would have put this aside and never even looked at it again. I don't smell ozone. At all. It's lemony, and I get a sort of effervescent fizziness that someone earlier mentioned, but no ozone. Thank GOD! I really like this a lot, but it's hard to pin down exactly what I'm smelling. I'm definitely keeping the imp... and now I have to decide quick if I like it enough to add a bottle to my collection. --M

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Kristana: Try Hackess' spreadsheet. All of the new items are added at the bottom of the sheet, so all you have to do is find in Hackess's spreadsheet the last thing you remember/have in your current spreadsheet, and then copy everything below that and paste it into your permanent one. --M

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

According to one website's translation that I saw, it means "The Sleeping Bather". Most of the pages that I translated came up with "Sleeping", but weren't quite sure what "Baigneuse" was... this was the first that gave me more than "The Sleeping Baigneuse". --M

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents

I pretty much agree with Apple above, but I will say that almost EVERYONE that I've handed an imp of 51 to has talked about how much they love it. It's one of the very few scents that both I and my best friend (who is a complete scent opposite from me) both have bottles of... so it's one that I definitely pull out to share with people when I'm trying to enable them. I usually use some of the more unique ones, too-- like Love's Philosophy (cake batter!) and Graveyard Dirt (dirt!)-- just to show them how amazing Beth is... but obviously this is for enabling when I'm sitting with someone handing them a bottle to sniff, not when I'm telling them what to order. --M

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Because you asked, Hackess: I'd appreciate it if the categories on the spreadsheet match the ones here on the message board, simply because it makes it easier for me to find the review threads once I've identified a scent that interests me. But you're awesome and I'm happy with the spreadsheet just the way it is, too. --M

    Zombie Apocalypse

Got this in a package yesterday, and I immediately had to try it... Someone else said up-thread that this smells like Strawberry Jelly -- not just strawberry, but specifically strawberry jelly. I have to agree. I was trying to describe it to a friend over the phone last night, and after fumbling around for a minute (ie: It's got a strawberry/cherry/raspberry vibe, but not like the strawberry of Strawberry Moon, which went all plastic-y on me... and there's something vaguely vanilla-y, but not overwhelmingly so...) I finally said "The strawberry is more like a strawberry filling... like... I dunno... a Pop-Tart." Then I stopped and sniffed my arm again. That's it... a strawberry/cherry Pop-Tart. (which goes along with the strawberry-filled donut that everyone else is mentioning.) After I while, it did start to remind me of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls... not that it really smelled plastic-y on me, just that for some reason, it smelled like Strawberry Shortcake. *shrug* I don't get it either. edit: Aha! Myotis got the non-plastic-y Strawberry Shortcake scent, too! ) --M

How to make a paypal order.

Ok... I'm about to place a humongous order. No, seriously... I'm ordering 29 bottles, which puts me over the $500 mark, and I'm a little freaked out by this. (It's partially for decant circles, so it's understandable, but STILL! 29 BOTTLES! At one time!) Anyway... I know that there's no possible way to include all the info in the comments field in PayPal, so what's the best way to get the info to the lab? What do I need to put in the comments field in PayPal, and how should I list the bottles in an email? Since I'm ordering multiple bottles of some scents, is it easier to understand if: I list each one multiple times, or if I put "name of the scent x2", or if I say "I want 2 bottles of each of these: blah, blah, blah... and 1 bottle of each of these: blah, blah, blah"? Do I send the email to the same address that the PayPal money goes to? (again: ) --M

I ignore the "e" when I say it -- so it's one syllable and comes out more like "Zanth". --M

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

I don't know for sure... I just know how *I* pronounce it. Which is like "Shay". And both of the a's in "Dana" are short a's... so it rhymes with "susanna". Now I'm curious whether it's correct, though. Heh. --M

    Salty scents?

Does anyone know of a scent that smells like a salty, musky sea breeze, or something like that? I keep trying the pirate-y and water-related scents, but I haven't found what I want yet. Here's the problem: Last year at Christmas, I bought one of the gift sets at Wal-Mart that has Shower Gel, soap, bath salts, etc. The scent is called "Stone Wash", I believe... and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, it's now almost gone. * I like white musk. I strongly dislike most other musks. * My skin amps up leather liek WHOA!... and I don't care for the note that much, especially when it's the only thing I can smell. * Most of the blends that have "mint", "snow", "ice", "frost", etc, make me nauseous and give me a headache. Hurricane, Undertow, Nuclear Winter, Talvikuu, and Snow Maiden specifically have all done it to me. * I like spicy things well enough, but I'm looking for something that is specifically *salty*, not *spicy*. As for BPAL, the closest thing I've found so far is, strangely enough, "The Carpathian Mountains". Once that Wint-O-Green chewing gum scent fades down a little, I get this *really* nice salty, musky smell. In fact, when I first sniffed it, my initial reaction was "THAT'S what I mean when I say 'salty'!!!..." (Of course, no one was around to hear me whooping... which was probably a good thing, now that I think about it... ) So... any ideas? Something salty and clean, possibly with florals (I don't mind them), but without the leather or Ozone or Mint (or whatever's in the "snowy" scents)? --M
  21. I'm not sure exactly which thread this should go in, but this seems the most likely to me... Day Of the Skulls 2008 = Penthus Except I don't think DotS lasts as long on my skin. But they're errily similar in the way the smell, to me. --M

    Day of the Skulls

This smells just like Penthus to me... and I was surprised when one of my friends walked into the room after I'd put on Penthus and asked why I was wearing a rose scent, since rose is a death-scent for me... so it doesn't surprise me that there's rose in here, even though I couldn't have named it as rose if I hadn't read the notes. I think it's because it's more of an incensy, resinous rose instead of a truly floral rose. It does remind me VERY much of Penthus, though. So if you like Penthus, I recommend this one. --M

    Kabuki

In the imp: Is there almond in this? No... huh... must be cherry. I swear it smells almondy, though. Maybe it's the red musk for me, since I occasionally get almond from other red-musk-containing things. First scent, as it touches my skin, is that of Cherry Tootsie Roll Pops. It's got the cherry, but there's something else underneath that gives it an almost chocolate-y scent that reminds me of Tootsie Roll Pops instead of just straight cherry lollypops. A few minutes in, however, the anise comes out to play, and unfortunately, that's all I can smell. And, unfortunately, since I absolutely HATE the smell of anise/black licorice, this is going to have to go. --M

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Is there any way to do insured mail or registered mail or whatever it would be called when you're shipping overseas? I ordered something from someone in the UK via ebay, and after 2 months, it still hasn't been received. I opened a complaint with ebay (which I didn't really WANT to do, because I truly believe that the person-- who's on the board here-- DID send it out... but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to get my money back because the deadline went past), and the person responded with something along the lines of "I'm not responsible for shipping problems. That's why I always state in my listings that you should use Royal Registered Mail" (or whatever the official name of the UK registered mail is). While I understand her point, I'm just curious if that's even an *option* when you're shipping internationally? --M

I preface this with the following: I like florals. I like rose sometimes, but it can get REALLY overpowering REALLY quickly. I also don't mind the "soap" smell, because it just smells clean to me. Initially: Rose. Like, OMGRose!!! Like, "Someone please cut off my arms at the elbow so that I don't have to smell this any more" Rose. 10 Minutes later: Huh. It's not quite so cloying any more. It smells more like the decorative rose-scented soaps that my aunt used to give all the girl-children for Christmas. It's calmer, with a soapiness that I assume comes from the lily. 10 minutes after that: Ok, there's still rose there, but the skin musk is coming up to play... I don't smell any of the other notes enough to pick them out, but the whole thing is now a musky, soapy, mild rose and quite lovely. As someone else said-- like you just had some fun in the rose garden, and then did a quick clean-up to make yourself presentable to mom. Overall, I love this one after it's dried down... I'm just not sure I can stand the complete overpowering nature of the rose in the first 15 minutes or so. 'Cause it's *bad*. I'm definitely keeping the imp, though. --M
