    Thaleia

I just love this, and I can't believe I'm saying that about something with gardenia or ylang ylang in it. I don't get any balsamic/resin flavor from the ciste and Thaleia isn't bubblegummy or earthy on me. I think the blood orange and the honey really come out here, with some leveling from the tonka, and it's just a happy, warm, sweet scent, one to keep around. It ranks alongside Clio as my favorite Muse perfume.

    Erato

It's always the same with me and sweet pea. That note dominates everything, usually turning a scent into some sickly-sweet-something for me, but this time with the thugs that are myrrh and ylang-ylang, I now get a slightly bitter backdrop. On the plus side, it is a very gentle floral scent on me, not overwhelming. Not rosey either, just some floral with a drop of powder to it, besides the bitterness. Overall, not too bad, but I can do better. Not a must have.

    Drink Me

Could it be I have not reviewed this yet? Unthinkable, but true. It's pastry crust, which is fabulous for a ridiculous bread addict from a family of ridiculous bread addicts. Yummy and sweet, yet not cloying, heavy or allergy-inducing. It reminds me of the delicious, freshly-baked cherry streusel pie sitting in my fridge right now. Excuse me for a moment.

    Catherine

Hm. Rosemary triumphs over everything, and the effect is nice, but it's not what I was looking for. The flowers are lightening up the scent some, but I can't see me choosing to smell like this all day. Next!

    Queen Gertrude

Oh, barf. How can something so straight-up green in the vial turn to tennis shoe rubber? Dunno if it's because of a note I've never experienced (like the delphinium) or this particular combo of elements. Hmm, tried it on a different part of my arm now and it smells a little fresher, but not fabulous, and in any case it's fading fast. Oh well! That's the fun of sampling for you.

    Green Phoenix

This is all about cucumber, green musk and green tea on me. Light and delicate, perfect spring into summer fragrance. Very nice! Wanted to add that this gets sweeter as time passes in a gentle, appealing way and the throw seems to increase. A bottle is looking more and more likely.

    Yuki-Onna

It is a blast of lemon cleanser at first, but that quickly calms down and becomes a jasmine/sandalwood trip. The lemon clings lightly in the background and I'm sure bergamot is augmenting things somehow, but it's hard to tell. Something about this has a rosy sweetness on me. I really like it!

    Spiked Punch

Like the spiked Hawaiian Punch at all the parties we should have been invited to in high school. Something floral toward the end there. Yummy!
  9. Limelight

    Egyptian Amber

A luminous, gentle and reclusive amber, which turns a bit powdery and tends to make me sneeze. Funny how none of the amber blends have done that! Couldn't give it up, though, it's too lovely for that. Better than many amber resins I've smelled.
  10. Limelight

    Asphodel

This starts better than it ends. At first, it's a pastel floral with a gentle, green center. Very nice, but somehow the green turns to a stemmy, slightly woody thing and it gets a bit of a bite to it. On the fence, not sure if I should order this before the great discon sweep.
  11. Limelight

    White Phoenix

Why, hellloooo, new favorite! It is a beautiful musk, wrapped in white, with the magnolia dominating. Sure am glad I tried this, now I know at least one bottle needs to be ordered.

    Virgo 2007

Totally veggie in the imp, totally veggie on my skin. So fresh and pleasant, it makes me think of the bins of organic vegetables at the farmer's market. After a while the fern and honeysuckle kick in, so there's a slight sweetness that doesn't eclipse the green at all. I wouldn't have believed it before, but now I'm gonna try to get a bottle of this.
  13. Limelight

    Terpsichore

It started out somewhat sharply, but it mellowed out to a slightly cloying floral. It's nice, but something about it sticks in my sinuses the wrong way. I think it's too much sweet pea. Out of the soon-to-be-discon florals, I think I'll keep Asphodel (maybe) and let this one dance away. (Hope it doesn't age into something heavenly, god forbid I've got to hit the pavement for another one.)

    The Lion

It's amber rubbed all over with dry spices, how can I go wrong? Another winner, especially for nights that I feel snuggly.

    Pinched With Four Aces

Interesting comparisons to Misk U on here. Misk U sucks but this doesn't. Unlike the old, dusty coffee I get with that scent, the cigar wrappers and cinnamon in Pinched really come through for me with a sweetness that reminds me of the atmosphere in a fine spice and coffee shop. Really good! I think this is one of the few BPALs that I could remain enamoured with day after day, at least for a while. If it were a GC, which it should be, I'd consider making it one of my signature BPAL fragrances. Come on, y'all, you know you'd make a lot of money!
  16. Limelight

    Persephone

Mmmm. Just like it says, pomegranate and rose. The pomegranate seems much truer here than in other pomegranate BPALs I've tried. It plays perfectly with the rose, like a fine chamber duet, and I think at least one bottle would be a fine idea.

    Wezwanie / Hold

Hazelnut, vanilla bean, red sandalwood, amber, myrrh, and honey. If you're longing for this and you can't afford it just now, don't despair. You're not missing much if you've already tried scents like Bliss, which Wezwanie is just like in the imp. On my skin, it takes on the spicy sandalwood/myrrh dimensions, so it's slightly chocolaty spice, tho not foody. Goes faint after a while. It's pretty, but not amazing. Will finish the imp, but I doubt I'll buy a bottle.
  18. Limelight

    Seraphim

I agree with porcelina's point - cloying. It's too sweet for me! I'll bet real seraphim aren't this sweet. Probably some bad combo of the frankincense and calla lily. To swaps with ye.

    The Sportive Sun

Ahhh, one of my favoritest BPALs ever. I've come to the conclusion that anything with amber will suit me, and once again, I'm correct. It's amber and cedar together, and it has a warm sandalwood flavor too (calamus contribution?) Lasts most of the day, and now I've managed to turn my mom on to it! If you don't want your bottle any more, please contact me and Mom!

    Sol Invictus

Where was my brain in early 2007? I could have been lavishing myself all over with this scent all this time. I wouldn't say this is a sunny scent, but it is warm, and the neroli and orangy florals just do the most delightful duet on me. Additionally, amber and heliotrope are some of my best BPAL friends. It does get somewhat soapy, but this time, I find it most pleasant. Heady throw too. Must get more!

    Ahathoor

Ugh, I wish I smelled like a pomander. This is nauseating. Bitter, bitter resin, not really anything else, and it never changes, just fades. If the noonday sun started smelling like this, I'd have to hide under the covers.
  22. Limelight

    Fruitcake

This is the only fruitcake I've ever liked!!! More than anything else, this is PINEAPPLE. Beyond that, it is cakey, buttery and sweetly cherry. Very nice, and I'm happy to have received a sample! This is one of those "eat-your-wrist" scents, few and far between for me.
  23. Limelight

    Fairy Market

I didn't think this was going to be that great on me, but wind flowers and wet grass really do it for me, apparently. Very happy with this! Soapy but not powdery. Great wafting powers too. Edited to add that it does start out with a sharp herb green thing, but it mellows. The drydown is worth it, I think.

    Heavenly Love & Earthly Love

Awww, yeeeeaah. This is sandalwood/ambergris luv. Myrrh usually fucks it up for me, but not today. Not much throw, but it does last. This and Haloes are my fave retailies so far. Probably a multiple bottle purchase.

    Ice Prince Bath Oil

Now here's a scent to fall for. I knew Ice Prince would be "the one," so I sprung for it. Of course there's pine, but it's not overwhelming at all. It's a great complement to the icy boughs/fresh snow impressions that I get. The bergamot, lily and musk are gently present, but they're difficult to distinguish - everything just comes together so well. A delicious bath oil.
