    The Obsidian Widow

I can smell the rose (good) and I can sort of smell the myrrh, but my skin either amps wine or turns it sour and there is a lot of wine coming out of this. I get enough to know that it would be great on someone else, but something just isn't right on me (it's either the wine or the jasmine or possibly both). Off to swaps!

    Fae

WTF? Peach and Liquorice?!!! Really, as soon as it hits my skin, that's what I smell! After 10 minutes I get Peach Candy, (very light) Musk and Liquorice. Definitely liquorice and not bergamot or oakmoss. Actually, this is odd but rather good - I'm wearing a bit too much at the moment so it's a little overwhelming, but if I can control my application then I can see myself wearing this out. Assuming my imp doesn't settle down into something slightly more mainstream as it ages, it is definitely a unique and interesting scent - if I met someone wearing this, I would want to find out more about them...

    Bruised Violet Compound

Oh dear. I put this on and thought "violet and something weird...why did I order this in particular?" then I saw that the description had redcurrant and suddenly I knew what I had been hoping for - except that this doesn't smell of violet and redcurrant, it smells of violet and something slightly medicinal with nary a redcurrant to be found! I have no idea whether I should be blaming the Spanish Moss or the Patchouli for what happens when this hits my skin but it isn't something I want to smell like. That said, I believe there are people out there who will love this - it's like Ultraviolet but with something more sinister and grown up instead of the frosty mint note.

    Cucumber-ish scents?

I could detect the cucumber in Blue Moon 07 as well (probably easier to get hold of than the 2004 version!), but I'd agree that Squirting Cucumber is probably the most cucumbery.

    To a Woman

This is very, VERY woody. There is a bit of resin in there, but no cassia or rose at all. I smell like a chest that was bought from a hippy shop and then heavily varnished - not really what I was expecting!

    The Temptation

Blimey! How did I miss this one? I've had the imp for ages and I don't remember testing it at all - I'd have thought I'd remember something as gorgeous as this! This is a sophisticated perfumy scent in which a fruity peach note is prominent but it is so much more than that. Black musk is an iffy note but here it behaves very well - there is musk in this but it stays close to the skin and doesn't dominate. I love this and will add it to my favourites list.

    Cairo

Oh good, it isn't just me getting candy! I was sitting here thinking "WTF - Holy Kyphi smells of REFRESHERS?!!!" And apparently, in some cases yes! Actually, if I really sniff this smells of the yellow sweets in a packet of refreshers (UK sherbert sweets) with a slight undertone of something going a bit rotten, because my skin does not make wine or grapes smell nice. Unlike some people here, however, the predominant smell remains yellow refreshers.

Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

CCCLXI I have finally worked out what this reminds me of - a half sucked gobstopper left out until it's gone VERY STICKY INDEED. Refined white sugar and generic "pink" flavouring. There may be a coconut or vanilla base note under this but it really isn't going to get the chance to come out and make itself known with the sugar pink so prominent. This stuff could terrify dentists from a distance of fifty feet if not more (not really what I look for in a perfume so I suspect it will find a better home elsewhere).

    Aquatics

Water of Notre Dame is my favourite aquatic (aquatic violet) I also like Undertow and Isle of the dead (Salon) - both are deeper aquatics - Amsterdam (water and tulip, very fresh and green) and Danube (one of the bluest scents I've tried) Selkie puts me in mind of sea spray on the wind rather than an aquatic as such, but maybe that's just me. It's very pretty and well worth getting hold of if you can find it.

    Sweet, sweet florals

Sticking a word in for Lilium Inter Spinas. Sweet florals (lily and apple blossom), honey and fig. Can't think why I didn't mention it earlier!

What do bottles and labels look like?

Didn't ApCat used to get large bottles from the lab and then rebottle into 5mls?

    Frederic

This is a very smooth scent, woody with patchouli and something that I assume is bay rum. The whole is very well done, so the elements all complement each other. Unfortunately, it just doesn't suit me, but if you like dark, assertive, woody scents then this is definitely one to try.

    Sweet, sweet florals

If you want sweet and purple, you're pretty much at the description of Hairy Toad Lily! If you like ylang ylang you may like La petite Mort (ylang ylang and honey). Since you seem to like lotus and lily, I'd give Ophelia a try. If you can find it on the swaps board, try a decant of Perfumed Garden - it was an LE last year. BPAL jasmine is a bit temperamental on me but this is sweeter than most of the jasmine blends and reliably lovely.

Recommend the most herbal scents, please

Leanan Sidhe was soft floral and herbs on me - you should definitely give that one a go. And if you like it, try Aeval, which is floral and sage. Bewitched was pretty much all berries though - if you want a blackberry scent anyway, go for it! I haven't tried the other scents on your list - but I'm sure you'll soon hear from someone who has

Recommend the most herbal scents, please

If you're up for hanging round the sales threads then I recommend Allison Gross (my favourite herbal scent - it's green herbs with a bit of woods and a tiny touch of sweetness). The recently discontinued Melpomene is a bit drier and also worth hunting down. The current limited edition Valentine of Rome has something in it that goes a bit too herbal for me, but may be your thing. If you can find Ides of March anywhere then you should definitely give it a go - I get a distinct bergamot note in there (NB it came out twice and I got the earlier version - I haven't tried the later one). If you're looking for GC scents then Pontarlier is a fresh green herby scent like greenery just after a spring rainstorm, and The Apothecary is herbs with tea and fig - quite a sweet scent but very pretty.

The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife

I know it sounds stupid, but my first thought about this one is "perfumy"! I have no idea which perfume but it's like something my mum would wear when I was growing up (in fact, she'd probably wear it now and I might pass this on to her!). It's quite heavy, which I really wasn't expecting, and I can't detect the mint, which I also wasn't expecting. The honey sits at the base and then this perfumy smell sits over it - it really doesn't call other Bpal aquatics to mind. It isn't unpleasant (in fact, it smells seriously expensive) but it isn't really my thing. If you like high end conventional department store perfume then give it a whirl.

    Longing

This is pretty but I am burning slightly where I applied it. This never happens to me normally, so I'm guessing my skin is drier than usual and all I need is moisturiser, but it is putting me off buying a bottle... Scent is cinnamon over woods with something herbal and fresh, almost minty (I'm guessing that's the geranium) and a slight masculine edge (I'm guessing that's what bay rum does when it doesn't amp to high heaven). It's very unisex in all.

    Men Ringing Bell with Penises

This is gorgeous on me - a lovely fresh green scent. It feels like Holiday moon, but fresher and greener with a touch of sweetness and a slight creamy note (not sure where that came from but I like it a lot). It lasts for several hours and doesn't really morph once on.

    Lady Una

Pretty blackberry, but it's so sweet it's almost blackberry candies. I'm guessing that's the honey, but it's not really obviously a honey note, just sweeter than I would expect blackberries alone. All the other notes don't really come out at all, but I don't mind - it is very pretty as it is. It doesn't really change at all and starts to fade after about 2 hours and is completely gone in 3, which is a bit disappointing.

    Epitaph

Am I wearing the same perfume as everyone else? It starts off surprisingly green and cold - there are floral notes there behind the greenery and they gradually become more prominent. Roses are there, but no one floral dominates really. The overall impression is of walking into a florist's shop. Nice, but other BPAL florals suit me better, so I'll stick with them.

    Safari

Potent herby lavender! More herbal and less "perfumy" than most lavender perfumes I've smelled. It stays true and lasts well on me.

    Detox

This is like honey and lemon flavour boiled sweets, except that instead of the lemon it's lime and possibly grapefruit - really zesty citrus, but with a bit of sweetness behind it. Unfortunately it fades really fast on me. I love the smell, but I need to find some way of using this so I can smell it for more than five minutes!

    Recommmendations for Green Scents

I think a lot of the Illyria blends might be good ones - In particular, I get grass from Rosalind and Ophelia is a nice light aquatic floral. Titania is a nice fruity floral with a melon note too.

Oh how she loves the pretty pepper

Grandmother of Ghosts has a very noticeable pepper topnote (over floral and woods).

    Hunter Moon 2004

This was a sniffie from the lovely Siddal I amp wine. It appears that I also amp mulled wine as that is very much the dominant note here on me. In the background there is a smoky note and I'm guessing there's musk in this because it comes across as very sexy indeed - definitely a scent for evenings and dress ups. I can see why people love this. Edit to say - feral animalistic notes = musk. I should have worked that one out!
