  1. Sleepy Moon is the first Lunacy blend I have ever bought.

In the bottle it smells fresh and slightly sweet. I was a little nervous about this blend because I my skin tends to amp lavender, but I'm not getting any in this whiff.

On my skin it's very lush and green herbal. It has a soft undertone which I think may be the sandalwood.

Sad to say, but this reminds me of floor cleaner more than a sleepy moon.

I will try it again at bedtime, but so far I think this scent is not for me.

  2. In the bottle all I expect to get it the kind of buttercream in jack and gluttony, but it changes on my skin into a boozy sugar. the rum is really prominent, but it also kind of smells like linens.

think 1950's housewife, drunk on rum, hanging out the laundry.

  3. in the bottle it's very floral and right after it goes on my skin it gets incense-y, which is nice, but not exactly what I was hoping to get out of this scent. I imagined it a a floral O. It's staying sharp and kind of reminds me of The Cracked Bell, but sweeter.

As it dries down it keeps the same quality. I think if I don't swap it away after another try or two, I might layer it with something really buttery like Jack or Gluttony. They're both too much food on their own, but might work with this one.

  4. I'm a big fan of coconuts, whether I'm slathering it on my skin, or shovelling it in my mouth, so I was really excited to try this blend.

At first it was all coconuts, slowly morphing into a boozy/musky blend. As it dried it got heavier and heavier until it had completely turned into

    baby powder. exactly.

My skin does tend to do this, so I expect it'll be different for others.

  5. oh, I need help.

I downloaded the spreadsheet linked a few posts above me, but it won't load onto my computer.

I'm using Microsoft Works Spreadsheet, which is not Excel, but should be compatible with an xls file. When I try to open, it asks me which version I want (scents, buying, swapping, etc) and then it says an illegal operation has been performed and shuts down.

I'm not sure where I can get a free copy of excel, if that's the problem, or if I need to open the file another way? any help would be hugely appreciated.

    thank you!!

  6. The first time I applied this I thought it was really bitter and noxious, but I had some remenants of Dorian underneath it, so I gave it a try again today before work.

Again, I got that bitter scent and I was tempted to wash it off, but I didn't have time. This was a blessing in disguise, because about 30 mins later, the bitterness came off and left a creamy, musky orange scent. Very untraditional in terms of perfume, but really pretty and unique in it's own way.

I think that this is probably the kind of scent that the people around you have to get used to as well, to appreciate its complexity.

edit: as a second opinion, my mother just told me I smell like furniture polish! uh, okay?

  7. This was the only Yule blend I purchased and I'm glad I did.

It smells static, as if time itself has stopped.

drying down it fades from that sharp electric smell to something sweet but not powdery at all.

    love this.

  8. I recently received Samhain in the mail and it had leaked all over the box. Being new to bpal, I wasn't sure what to do. was this my fault? I didn't really expect the lab to do anything, as I figured it would be chalked up to a mail issue.

However, the board encouraged me to email Sara.

I emailed, took a shower and when I got back, there was an email from her saying she would send a new one by the end of the week.

this was monday. I got my new bottle of Samhain today. The lab ROCKS.

I have never had such outstanding customer service, EVER.

  9. In the bottle: light citrus fruits and cream

On skin: Gets extra sweet right away, which almost makes me shy away, but I give it a little time and the cream really starts to come back.

I can pick out the orange and apricot really easily, but they're not sharp, it's almost like a creamsicle.

I don't get any honey like everyone else does. I think the tonka and honey are just warming it up perfectly for me without being obvious scents. Which is good because honey doesn't usually love me.

  10. Devilish temptation, as sweet as sin: blood orange, neroli, and raspberry.

    frimp from the lab:

In the bottle: Candy, oranges and something woody. almost paper-like in quality.

Wet on skin: oranges and rasperries with that paper scent.

    Dry: Raspberry flavoured candies.

Overall, not bad, sweet, but also dry at the same time.

  11. frimp from the lab.

In the bottle: Super-clean. Hard to pick out much but rosewood right now.

Wet on skin: Bright roses with a big cup of earl grey splashed on top. Delicious. I would call this a Victorian scent.

Dry down: A perfect blend of roses, tea, and spices with just a tad of lavender break-dancing in the background.

This blend is gorgeous but I'm not sure that I'd get a big bottle for my skin. I think that I want my bed to smell like Libertine.

  12. frimp from the lab.

In the bottle: I hate it. Honestly it reminds me of Walgreens and bad medicinal perfumes. I smell the jasmine and what I thought was oakmoss, but rereading the description, that shouldn't be in there. No currants or amber.

Wet on skin: I have to give them all a try! Jasmine amped up on my skin. Medicinal. Very powdery amber in the backround. I can't stand it.

Washed it off. Just not right for my skin.

  13. frimp from the lab.

In the bottle: gummi bears! that's exactly what first came to mind.

Wet on skin: starting to turn a little powdery. I can definitely smell the lily now. No more gummi bear scent.

Dry down: gets sweeter and more powdery at the same time. There's some very sharp, sweet, bright smell in the front and then powdery lilies in the background. The sharp smell is probably snowdrop, but I'm not familiar with the way that smells. It's a nice scent, but I think I'd like it better on my mother. (and I mean that in the best way).

  14. frimp from the lab.

In the bottle: Candy. Sugary-sweet. Very tropical. Synthetic fruit (not bad).

Wet on skin: the woody/dusty smell starts to come out which is exactly where I want it to go, still sweet.

A lot of people say they're getting bananas out of this scent, but surprisingly I keep smelling light flowers, soft cedar and pineapples! Good throw, but sometimes a little medicinal on my skin.

Dry down: still remains very sweet, but not as overwhelming in the bottle. I like it but I don't think the scent is really 'me.' I might wear it on a hot summer night, but not in a rust belt winter.

  15. hello!

I'm pretty new to bpal. I made an order on Nov 17th, which arrived today.

I got a 5ml of Samhain, and when I opened the box, I found Samhain all over the inside of it!

Smells fantastic, but there's less than 1/4 left in the bottle. It looks like the cap wasn't screwed on right?

should I just email customer service? has anyone ever had this problem before?

  16. I got this imp in my first bpal order and and when I first opened it I thought "oh no!" the smell was just overpoweringly bad for some reason.

I was sitting at my desk tonight and something told me to just give it another little sniff and amazingly, I thought "this smells great!"

I now really believe that the time of the month does have an effect on your skin chemistry.

anyway, I don't really know what myrrh smells like per se, so the first thing I got from this was tangy almonds. I'm loving it wet.

On drydown it starts to go powdery but not in an all together bad way, but it does remind me of my grandma a little bit. not sexy.

I can still smell almonds, and after reading someone else's review, I smell cherries too.

I think I'll try the imp a few more times, but I wish it would stay sharp the whole wear.

  17. Honestly, I had no idea that there were different kinds of amber! That's really pleasing, knowing that I'm not ruined for them.

I'm really inetrested in working in the swap thread, but I'm going to have to go back over the FAQs and all that. I know there are rules about above and below the label stuff. I'm actually surprised how much of an imp goes after a few test applications.

I'm so impressed with the amount of information I received. I love the bpal community!

  18. cool, I will definitely try aging my snake oil!

Is it the spicy scents you're looking for?

Not necessarily, I just got excited by the prospect of being a sex kitten by wearing perfume.

I would have kept wearing Bringsamen but while I was at work, I would keep getting a fit of sneezes every time I sniffed it, and I do not have a sensitive nose that way. Someone commented that it smelled cheap too! It's that babypowder thing.

Here's a list of imps I was thinking about ordering.

    1 Lady Macbeth

    2 Ophelia

    3 Dorian

    4 Velvet

    5 Kali

    6 Nemesis

    7 Anubis

    8 Iambe

    9 Zorya

    10 Scherezade

    11 Antique Lace

    12 Black Pearl

    13 Chimera

    14 Intrigue

    15 Jack

    16 Mata Hari

    17 Gluttony

18 The Great Sword of War

think I should steer clear of any of these?

  19. I'm very new to bpal, and when I made my first imp order, I got a lot of scents that contained amber because I used to use a cheap oil that I liked.

All of these ambers turn into babypowder on my skin and it's gross. does anyone else's skin do this to them? have you tried any ambers that stay sharp?

in case anyone was wondering I got snake oil (which I really wanted to like), bringsamen, o, le petit mort, psyche, salome and the lab gave me depraved.

  20. got this as a freebie from the lab.

in the bottle: love the apricot!

    wet: apricot with smokey patchouli.

dry: the way your heating vents make the house smell after they've been off all summer.

I've worn it a few times, but once the imp is gone I won't get anymore.

  21. This is my very first review and my very first bpal experience, so go easy on me!

I bought an imp pack of love potions. I used to wear amber oil all the time and was always showered with compliments. I picked O to review first because I got a little excited opening them to smell and spilled it on myself.

In the bottle: smells a little powdery, maybe I can smell a little honey. No vanilla yet.

Wet: at the moment of application it sweetens up but only for a few seconds. The amber is really strong on my skin. I'm starting to be able to pick out the honey, but it's kind of smelling like a incense vendor. This is not bad or good.

Twenty minutes later: it's sweetening up like it did when I first put it on. My untrained nose is still not smelling vanilla, but honey is not standing at the front and amber is dancing around in the backround. I just ate an orange and now that scent is coming to mix in when I type. ha! My first bpal layering. It actually smells really good, so I might have to search for an orangey blend to accompany this.

A couple of hours later: excellent throw, I keep getting hints of it. The honey has calmed down a little and the amber has gone a little powdery. Not a bad scent at all, but something I would have to get used to wearing. I would have liked it better if I had been able to smell the vanilla like the rest of you! and perhaps if the amber had stayed sharp.

To me this scent is perfect for curling up with someone. I don't know if I'd call it sexy so much as comforting, warm, and delicious.

edit: apparently, all my mother can smell is vanilla! interesting...
