  1. When it first goes on, it's got a lightly minty (not overpowering), sugary, boozey smell. Then as it dries down the mint fades and it's predominantly boozy. But then over time, it fades to a sweet, slightly minty amber scent which is perfumey and lovely.

After trying this a few different times, I find that the hot humid weather really brings out the best in this scent. Kind of like a real mint julep, best enjoyed in the heat.

  2. Hmm... I can't really put my finger on this scent, but I love it a lot. Something about it reminds me of that sweet, sort of musty scent of old books. It has a little floral tinge and a little sweet one, with the faintest earth scent underneath, not an overpowering earth scent like Zombi or some of the Demeter perfumes, a very subtle one.

  3. Oooh!! This is a perfect blend of feminine and sexy but subtle at the same time. The rose is just a hint of rose, without it being cloying, so it has a nice floral undertone, and the musk and amber are mild and sexy without being overpowering. This is a great scent for a romantic encounter where you want to be pretty and feminine with an underlying sexiness. I'll have to order a big bottle later.

  4. Aquatics usually don't work well on me AT ALL, but I HAD to order Cthulhu, just on principle. It's a good thing too, because it's one of the aquatics that actually does turn out nice on me. (Something about my chemistry makes them turn sour after a while for some reason). After the drydown, it gets a bit floral on me, with still a very aquatic undertone. The other thing about aquatics are they often smell really masculine, Cthulhu doesn't smell overly masculine on me, but it's a scent that I think would work well on a guy.

All in all, Cthulhu isn't a scent I would wear every day, but it's nice for a change and is a great scent. Good for those days when you feel like channeling denizens of the deep. Or something.

  5. With some of the reviews, I was a little worried that this wouldn't smell nice on me. But I think Envy is a lovely scent. Green herbal describes it perfectly, but I don't get any hint of a medicine smell, just a nice clean herbal, with a very faint hint of something lemon-- maybe lemongrass or lemon verbena? I actually didn't smell mint or lavender, which is good because sometimes in blends those get overpowering on me. It smelled really nice on me. It's not a scent that's usually my speed, I prefer some of the darker scents or florals, but it was really pretty.

  6. This scent is only a prototype, so the final scent may vary slightly.

Fire Eater is like a slightly spicy, slightly sweet floral, in the way that carnations are spicy. It is a beautiful scent, it's not a girlie floral or white floral at all, so you still might like it even if you aren't a floral person. Maybe I smell carnation, and a hint of some spice but very faint, it does seem like the teeniest bit of cinnamon. I'm thinking this will be a divine scent for summer, a floral you can wear even if you aren't in a particularly floral mood. And now that I am wearing it by itself and not layered on top of Pink Moon and who knows what else, on me it gets a bit spicier over time, but it's not a spicy cinnamon scent like Hamadryad. It just has a bit of a kick.

    Absolutely lovely.

  7. Malediction is smoky, dark, mysterious, and heavy. It's very heavy on the patchouli with a hint of an almost lemony scent. It's definitely not an everyday scent for me, but it might be nice for when one is in a dark mood.

  8. I got this from a very special fellow forumite as a cheer-up gift and I've been saving it. Today I decided to break it out and try it.

I love it, it's sweet and floral and complex all at the same time. So Piscean, to be many conflicting things at once. I don't make out any individual notes... sweet without being cloying, floral without being sharp, a little musky, and intense without being overpowering, just like a Pisces. :P

I will treasure the rest of my imp.

  9. Ooh, Beth has created yet another fabulous floral. It has a predominantly night-blooming floral scent, but spicy, darker and more intense. The smell comes across as mostly jasmine and cinnamon to me. I love it.

  10. Ophelia is such a lovely scent, so appropriate for the lovely, complex character she is named after. It is a light and sweet floral, not screaming floral, but with a definite floral tone, and a lovely sweet scent that I can't place. The rose comes through over time, faint but present. Altogether lovely and complex and I am thinking this might be the next floral I buy. Sadly, I don't smell stargazer lily at all, the actual flowers are one of my favourite scents, but since they are so overpowering perhaps it's just as well.

A great spring or summer scent.

  11. OK, I told myself I was not going to order any more BPAL for a while, but I am going to visit a friend later this summer and I am thinking of getting a bottle of something uber sexy for the trip. I have Perversion, but I don't think it's quite the right scent to bring, I have F54 but I refuse to travel with even an imp of that (especially after spilling so much of it on my duvet a while back). I am leaning toward maybe Brisingamen or Wanda or O... but I am open to suggestions. Any votes? Or other suggestions? I'd like it to be one of the Love Potions family, just cause.

  12. Oooh! I found a runner-up for Red Moon finally! On me, Pink Moon is a slightly floral, sexy, candy smell...not sickeningly sweet or foody really, but it just makes me think candy. I can smell a hint of muguet and daffodil, but no strawberry. And it has a lunar undertone that's just slightly reminscent of Red Moon (although I wouldn't say it's really similar at all). I love it love it love it! It sort of reminds me of Yankee Candle, but in a good way, if that makes any sense at all. It is a fabulous spring/summer blend, I think I've found a new signature scent for this spring!!

  13. Mmm…this one is soft and faintly sweet. I get mainly honey, with the faintest touch of floral and a tiny bit of sandalwood. I like it a lot. It's good for a day where you want a lighter but still sexy sweet scent. I also think it would be a great scent to mix with unscented dusting powder. There are so many scents that I love that I'm not sure I'd buy a 5ml, but I might.

  14. Brisingamen smells like a slightly sweetened, tempered amber. It is a very sexy scent, but I get zero floral. Maybe I smell the faintest hint of carnation. I almost smell vanilla, I'm not sure what that's about. I thought it MIGHT work on a man, I'm kind of curious, since it's not very girlie or feminine on me at all.

  15. Eve is such a complex scent, and nothing like any of the other BPAL I've tried. Apple-y without being fruity. Slightly sweet, with a predominant honey and almost amber scent (maybe that’s the ylang ylang). Sexy and feminine, but subdued. I don't get much of a floral note. I think this would be a good one to recommend to any friends or relatives.

(And in the borderline TMI department, when I tried Eve I put some in my cleavage and it apparently got on my bra, so when I wore the bra again, the echo of Eve that I got was just so lovely.)

  16. Aeval is a lovely green floral. It just smells green. I do smell the sage, after it dries down. It's just a lovely, springy scent. I can't wait to wear it this spring, I am so glad I got a 5ml. Sadly, I don't smell the tonka at all. Nevertheless, I still love it.

  17. I love Intrigue. It has a hint of cocoa, without sweet foody chocolateness. I smell a similarity to Carnal, which must be the fig. It's light but intense, sweet but not overly so, with a hint of dark sexiness. This is definitely one of my favourites. I think I like it better than Carnal, but I'll have to compare the two a bit more.

  18. Very lemony, but not cleaning product lemony. Like fresh lemons. I also smell a hint of muskiness, which I must be imagining. This might be a good mood-lifting scent, with the citrus and jasmine. When I first put it on, I don't smell the green tea at all. Over time, the green tea comes out just a bit, but it's still very subdued.

  19. Ultraviolet describes this one perfectly. It is an utterly perfect violet scent. Incredibly lovely, and great for spring. I'll love this for the days I want a lighter, more feminine scent. Some of the violet blends have a metallic or biting scent on me, but this has none of that.

  20. Another great Dragon's Blood scent. Blood Amber has a predominant Dragon's Blood scent, and the amber tempers it a little and makes it a bit less heavy and more mellow. It dries down lighter than some of the others do, with a touch of sweetness. Really nice drydown. Just more proof that it's hard to go wrong with Dragon's Blood.

  21. This one has a creamy, white scent. It doesn't have the piercingly white scent of the night-blooming flowers, it's just a solid floral. Calming and gentle, yet strong, with a hint of somberness. It's a good dark, grown-up floral. It would be good as a gift for a relative, or to wear to work or to a wedding or something. I don't smell roses at all, but I smell a hint of something like Queen Mab. Must be the orchids. The funny thing is that Queen Mab turns a bit sour on me, but Magdalene does not at all. I am enjoying it a lot.

I actually wore it today to tell the story of Mary Magdalene to some primary school children. :P
