A sinful, licentious scent: self-indulgent and luxurious. Mingled heady civet and red Egyptian musk, thickened with opium. This is heaven. It's subtle yet potent. Very sensuous and heady. One of my favorites and today's the first day I've smelled it. It's that good. Sweet, spicy musk.

To me this smelled like candy cigarettes from the 70's. Or Pepto Bismol. I liked it when I thought it smelled like candy cigarettes, but once hubby said Pepto, I have to bow out. He's right. One Thanksgiving as a child I was sick and my mother fed me three teaspoons of Pepto Bismol every half hour. I was just about retching after the first two hours. To this day I can't eat those round pink soft candies that are wintermint flavored. ACK! ACK! <<they look like this!!

In the vial: Patchy babe-ay, where you been, man? This is a mellow nice leather. Catching a hint of something green too. Like a dandylion. Sunflower seeds too. Maybe a sunflower smell. Nice. 10 minutes: getting more leathery. The greeness is stronger also. Maybe a touch of sweetness? It reminds me of a new leather handbag that's made of rough leather that hasn't been processed too much into an unsmelling super soft piece of nothing. 30 minutes: wow it's getting greener! Possible floral coming on? This is how a cowboy should smell. Green, leathery and cologney. A splash of cologne in the morning, then riding all days bringing in the cattle or mustangs, mending fences, baling the hay....then coming in to eat, and giving a kiss before he goes to wash his hands. Ahhhh! Is this what Ree Drummond the Pioneer Woman experiences every day! DAYUM! This is thigh slappin good!

I love this. I had received an imp a while back and was truly intrigued with the black sludge at the bottom. I almost hate shaking the bottle to combine the sludge with the oil! The smell reminds me of metal. That stark iron smell that's been charred in a fire. I was disappointed to learn it was no longer available, so I created a search on ebay so when was listed I'd get an email. I was rewarded and it was BPAL selling it so of course I got 6 wonderful imps along with the bottle of Dangerous Toys. This is smoky, calming and so unique. Nothing else out there smells like this. I love smelling unique and this gets me there and then some.

I get cherry too when this is wet and in the vial. Then it mellows into this lovely floral soap. I myself love roses and old ladies soaps, so this is a keeper for me. Big bottle too. LOVE this!!

I always review my oils before I see what's in them and in this I got musk, dragon's blood and a floral like carnation or chrysanthamum. What a crazy combo and I was so far off! Love this!

Hi, my name is Lori and I'm a Patchaholic. I've loved patchouli since I was in 8th grade and still have a bottle of patchouli oil that I bought way back then. I also bought a bottle of sandalwood at the same time and still have that too. My fave bpal patch scents are Solitary and Abhorred, Marianne, Sentimental Initiation, Samhain 06 and 04, and Loviatar. All of these are HEAVY on the patch. I also love Voodoo, Fenris Wolf and Imp, though they are lighter on the patch.

This is too cloying on me and I LOVE rose, jasmine, musk, moonflower, incense....everything in this. It was so strong that I had to wash it off. I only got jasmine and rose from this. Very strong. It'll be great in my bathwater.

Spicy gingerbread heaven! With a citrus twist. As it dries down it goes ALL cinnamon on me. I have hopes for it though as it dries down longer because I can still smell that ginger waiting in the background. Waiting, waiting, waiting...like a bed bug waiting for you to get home......

This is an amazing scent. Smooth smooth smooth. Sultry, sexy and perfect for both genders and all genders in between.

Earth Rat was all banana to me and it stayed that way. I was surprised there wasn't any banana in it. Score! on your getting a bottle of Pahoehoe!

THIS is my favorite BPAL scent of all time, and I have over 300 with another 50 on the way. It's a magical blend of patchouli, musk, floral and sweetness. When I look up the word PERFECT in the dictionary, I find BPAL's Marianne. Seriously. So many adjectives come to mind when I smell it at ALL stages. In the vial, wet on the skin, dried for a few minutes, an hour later, 4 hours later and 12 hours later. Seductive, sensual, strong, playful, feminine, masculine, subtle, enveloping, haunting, evoking, head turning, bewitching, sinister, angelic, velvety, smooth, heady,... I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on.....

This scent doesn't make me sleepy at all! in fact it wakes me up! I must say the drydown is much better than the inital wet stage.

No one has reviewed this since 2010!! OMG! This scent is the bomb! I wore it to work today without knowing what was in it and thankfully I took the imp in my purse to dab all day! It's the perfect mix of sin and soft. Like a librarian with leather undergarments on. It is strong but in a subtle way that only people really close can smell. The amber makes it bearable to everyone, even those that don't like resiny hippie smells. It's sexy, creamy, masochistic va-voom.

There was a study and a lot of men like the smell of food on women, like pumpkin etc. Also remember that a lot of men do not like any like musk, patchouli or champa--my husband is one of them. He says I smell like body odor when I wear them. And I happen to love them!! BAH! I think something subtle, without a lot of throw. One that he has to get near you to smell. Something feminine. I love this! Fresh, bright, calm, serene, green, heavenly, clean. I am surprised with the reviews saying this is masculine. I smell feminine. One that makes me feel girly.

A celebration of the Bone Church of Prague. Frankincense, rosewood, lily, and geranium rose. I won this on Ebay from the actual BPAL company. I bought it having never smelled it before. Rose and frankincense are two faves so I decided to bid. So glad I did because I love love love this. It's everything that I love about their oils. It's deep yet light. It's musky yet feminine floral. It's unique yet has an air of familiarity about it. I have over 80 oils now fom bpal that I recently received in the last few months so I am trying them out so this doesn't get much wear time. When I smell it i ask myself, why aren't you wearing this more? It's heaven in a bottle. Frankincense in the vial, rose on for a few hours then back to nice warm mellow frank. I love Frank--don't tell my husband.

Incense and resiney smells are my fave although I do tend to like them with floral. Here's one for you, I don't think it's been mentioned. RPG Series, Cleric: Rose amber, frankincense, myrrh, champaca flower, Peru balsam, cistus, palisander, cananga, hyssop, and narcissus absolute. The champaca is at the perfect level. Not too much or too little.

I finally found some that smells like I expected!! Yay! Boy this is an intoxicating scent. I got the Boswellia Catererii. I think there's others that I hope to find too. Now I need to figure out how to make bath salts with this. Maybe I'll just add it to my bathwater and wallow. LOL Thank you to those who helped me out.

I don't know what happened with that store, and the guy who told you that was smoking something! frankincense is a tree resin, and it doesn't smell anything like flowers. Here's one description of the scent: "characterized by a balsamic-spicy, slightly lemon, and typical fragrance of incense, with a slightly conifer-like undertone." And here's another: "At first, it is reminiscent of freshly ground black pepper, with a twist of lemon peel in the background. As the oil dries down, it reveals its dry woody character, which lies halfway between balsamic richness and flinty mineral crispness." At the store, were they selling lumps of resin or something else? Smoking something....hehe It was just frankincense oils in a bottle-both of them. I didn't think it was supposed to be flowery either. In fact the first store I tried, after smelling their bottle, I left thinking this wasn't what I was looking for. Then when I tried the guy at the flea market (all he sells is oils, incense and leather belts) and he said his was flowery too, that's when I started questioning if frankincense was what I thought it was. He did say though that his was synthetic and the true essential oil of frankincense may very well be resiny but he said it'd be very expensive, like 90.00 per bottle. So maybe these are synthetic oils that I'd found and not true frankincense. Thanks for helping me out so I didn't think I was going crazy!!

I wonder if anyone can help me with frankincense. I started liking it because of all the BPAL oils that I really, really liked they all had frankincense in them. All of them were resiny, deep scents so I assumed frankincense was an incense smelling resin, along the lines of a musk, or an amber, or a sandalwood ( I know those aren't resins but I am trying to get across what I thought frankincense was supposed to smell like). Well I decided to find straight up pure frankincense. The first store I found had it but when I smelled theirs it was like a floral smell. So today I went to the flea market and the guy that I buy oils from didn't have any but he also said frankincense was a floral type smell (because I told him that I had found some but it was florally and if he had the one that was the deep smelling frankincense). So I am confused as all get out. Is frankincense a deep scented resin or is it florally. I am going to have to read all the ingredients again on all my faves to see if there is another scent in all of them besides the frankincense if it IS a floral smell! I just tried Imperious Tiger-Lily for the first time and I love it! It's a deep scented oil and it has frankincense in it! So what's making this smell so deep like an incense? Help!

This is another fave of mine. Today is the first day I've tried it. To me this is musky, deep, floral and clean all at the same time. I smell floral in the imp with smoke and musk. I keep applying it because I like it soooo much. I say 5 out of 5 if you like resiny florals. I do! I do!

It just got here! Midnight Mass!!! I'm not sure it gets much better than this! Terrific recommendation for the frankincense. What a wonderful oil this is, Midnight Mass. Loving this one!

I got Midnight Mass so now I can stop banging my head so hard. Still banging for Penitence though. LOL I will get the Midnight Mass in the mail today. It's out for delivery!!
