1.

have you tried Cathedral? if so, what did you think? really considering it. thanks for all the help, btw. :)

Here is part of my review from 2006 -

"This scent brings up so many images and memories. The first thing that I smell is the wood note, perhaps cedar. It reminds me of a church, but not a cathedral. It reminds me of the churches in the missions in Southern California. I can smell the San Juan Capistrano and Santa Barbara missions. It smells old, but not dusty, just old wood, aged old wood. I can smell the incense notes behind it and it conjures up images of monks in prayer in earlier centuries.

I also had an image of the woods down along the Little Sur River. I could smell the wood of the trees and the sweet smell of the leaves. The Big Sur area is like a cathedral of sorts."

It doesn't have the benzoin and vanilla from EM and I haven't tried layering them yet. On its own, it's very different from EM, but it is one of my top 10 BPALs.

If you can get your hands on silver haired Bat, that is pretty much benzoin and cedar on me - if you layered this with cathedral, it might get you closer!

... Or layer Banshee Beat with Cathedral to add the Van/Patch element.

I've never smelled EM, but based on the notes and your descriptions, it might work!

    !

  2. This on me smells just like banshee beat without the vanilla! I'm not getting much cocoa at all, so I actually might try layering this with Bliss...it has about the same throw on me as Banshee Beat (I should also mention, I just did a swap for this, so it's a few months old now - I would assume a little aging has helped it settle down)

  3. Wow, this is like a stronger Midway Res to me. While I love MR, it never lasts on me. At all. But this-- so glad I got a bottle! It smells very similar to me. I will say, at first I get popcorn, then it turns into a salty Midway Resurrected, then the salt disappears altogether & it's just sweetness. I love this! I know what I am wearing tomorrow.

If you love Midway or just wish you had had the chance to try it, get ahold of some of this stuff! Sweet, airy, & sugary. Perfect!

I 100% agree with this review! When I tested it yesterday, I was like, "Midway?? Is that you?!"

    LOVE!

  4. How is Ladon pronounced? I've been saying, variously: LAY-don, LAH-don, La-DON. But I'd love to know the proper way to say it ...

LOL, this just reminded me that I absolutely cannot wear this perfume oil without thinking of Stewie's Babysitter he had a crush on in Family Guy - Her name was "La Don"

It also never occured to me that I was probably pronouncing half of these names completely wrong! I always thought:

Baobahn Sith was pronounced - Bay-o-bon sith (as in Revenge of the sith...lol)

I also had NO CLUE that samhain wasn't pronounced "Sam-Hayn" I'm one of those uncultured Americans...

  5. I love this blend - its very foody, and comforting.

Wet: it's spicy fizzy ginger ale and cream

Dry: as it dries, the ginger softens more and reminds me of a big scoop of French vanilla ice cream floating in a glass of ginger ale, but the ice cream has melted into the ginger ale, making it more of a ginger cream shake. The saffron is very mellow on my skin, and on me, just lends a very light perfume/resiny quality to the blend.

If you like Love's philosophy, give this one a try!

  6. I have to agree with Milo - this version definitely seemed more creamy milk-chocolate and snake oil vs. cocoa powder (that my skin pretty much ate on contact) and snake oil. I think this version is much more wearable IMO, though when I am more in the mood for rich resiny blend, I would reach for the released version

  7. OMG...so glad I managed to get my hands on this! This smells amazing!

Mostly on my skin, the Benzoin amps - this is like a very lightly resinous vanilla, the next strongest note I get is the cedar, which is really mellow alongside the Ambergris...I really don't get pepper at all.

This scent just skyrocketed into my top 5 BPAL blends of all time!

  8. Can anyone tell me if the night blooming flowers in this are at all similar to the night blooming flowers in snow white?? Thanks!!

(I just won a bottle on Ebay, and I will probably answer this question myself when it arrives, and will add my review!)

ETA: just got my bottle, the flowers do not smell similar to snow white at all, but it smells exactly as described! Sweet flowers and sugared incense! A very beautiful scent!!

  9. has anyone else had a skin reaction to this? I put this on this morning, because I have been in a FALL mood for the last few days...and my husband asked "what happened to your neck?!?" I had red patches within moments of it touching my skin. It didn't burn, maybe it itched just a tiny bit, but not enough that I had even noticed anything until he pointed it out, and I looked in the mirror - I so love this scent though :cries:

  10. I need some rose help! I've been searching for a good rose scent for a little while now, but it seems like every rose blend I try ends up smelling like pink sugary Turkish Delight. London, Zombi, Blood Rose--they all turned into the same sugary pink roses.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Turkish Delight and pink roses are pretty, but I'm really searching for a deep, dark red rose scent--I have memories of smelling dark red roses in a garden and I'm trying to recapture that scent and carry it around with me. I just never seem to get that out of any blend.

It might just be my skin doing this to me, or it might just be that this is how rose scents end up when they're extracted. I don't really know. I have a few other rose blends in imps to try, and I will yet try them.

But any recommendations or observations of similar situations would be really, really welcome.

Rose Red!! That one smells to me like a fresh from the florist longstem red rose...beautiful!

  11. Aquarius;

This one smells very different on me, I don't smell any hints of pine, or medicinal/eucalyptus.

I bought this out of curiosity (it's also my zodiac sign) and once I read the reviews it made me a little skeptical. However, I'm very pleased with this scent! I'm not sure what notes are more prominent on me, (definitely not lavender) but I'll have to agree 100% with yeahbutnobut and say amber, incense, violets perhaps, just very beautiful and sweet creamy floral!

This was pretty much my experience with it too!! I didn't detect any pine or lavender - it was beautiful! It was actually, a little on the aquatic floral side on me! (I would have expected an aquatic scent, since Aquarius is the water bearer)...and I bought this, because like others, I'm also an Aquarius (Feb 5th FTW!)
