  1. This is amazing! the dry down on this is what I imagine Katrina Van Tassel to smell like, though I never actually tried that one!

Wet in bottle: vanilla custard with a hint of cocoa (I do have just a tiny bit of cocoa absolute/sludge in my bottle, but not a lot.)

wet on skin: Vanilla Custard dusted with a subtle cocoa, with a hint of lemon peeking out around the edges...this is really pretty!

Dry: :thud: this is stunning - I normally avoid most rose notes, because rose really amps on me to holy hell, but I hadn't yet tried one of the lab's white rose notes. As this dries, the white rose blooms beautifully on the skin, and it's not IN YOUR FACE ROSE! the vanilla and custard back up the white rose to make it this gorgeous CREAMY sweetened white rose, and the skin musk balances it all out to get this stunning perfumy (but not overbearing in any way) sweet, creamy white rose blend. It has a light throw on me, and stays close to the skin, but it's lasting pretty well so far! I applied it at 8:15 am, and it's still going strong at 9:30am, so that's promising! I can't stop huffing my wrist!! :wub2: The cocoa and the lemon blossom seemed to disappear as it dried on me.

  2. :wub2: is all I have to say about Cottonmouth.

    ...no it's not. It's amazing.

it smells very light and "white" innocent floral in the bottle, but not overbearing in any way (and I am not much of a floral person, unless it's a "floriental")

wet on skin: that same very innocent CREAMY white floral - still very light, not "heady" - this is stunning.

Dry - This is a beautiful creamy/vanilla floral - I get mostly lindenblossom, and maybe some Narcissus, I can't pick out the Calla Lilly specifically, it's very well blended...the only other scent I can compare this to, even they don't smell alike, but has a similar feel would be to Antique Lace...it has that creamy vanilla very light floral...this is absolutely gorgous! It lived up to the hype for me! :wub2:

  3. OMG...this is gorgeous! I was a bit weary of every trying this, because I had read some reviews that the pine was a strong player, but I am happy to say that's not my experience with this blend at all!

Wet on Skin: The woodsy patchouli is a major player, that is quickly tamed and sweetened by the honey - not much else for me at this stage

dry: as this began to dry down, The honey kept the Patchouli in check, and the Tobacco came out to say hello. The vanilla added sweetness along with the honey, and kept the honey as a nice sweet innocent honey, not a stinky BO kind of honey like in O. The smokiness in the vanilla also peeked out, but I never really got the pine at all - which I am happy about! If it's there, it was so far in the background, that I didn't even notice it.

LOVE this. This just blasted it's way into my top 10 right near Banshee Beat!

  4. The description is spot on with this one! at first it's WHOA BUBBLEGUM! the sticky sugary sweet Bubblicious kind - then I do get a cherry-ish/citrus note as the bubblegum starts to tone down, and it dries down to a youthful girly perfume somewhere akin to Love's Baby soft! I was not expecting to like this at all, and I definitely couldn't wear it everyday, but I think I'll really enjoy this when I'm feeling nostalgic for my childhood! :wub2:

...I can almost hear Winger's "She's only Seventeen" when I sniff this...

  5. This is really nice! It's a soft warm sensual cinnamon, not a burning hot clear your sinus cinnamon. The Cinnamon overshadows a lot of the other notes in this blend on my skin, but I can see the vanilla adding a touch of creaminess (though it doesn't stand out as VANILLA) The Myrrh adds a hint of resiny woodiness that just rounds out the whole blend and keeps it really soft and warm.

    I'd rate this 3.5/5 - I'll keep my imp, but I don't need a bottle.

  6. Can one ask for recommendations based off of basic memory scents?

If so I'm looking as a "noobie" for such scents that may have or be reminded of:

    -Fresh mowed green grass

    -Damp basement/humidifier

    -Carmex lip balm

    -Juicy Fruit gum

    -Lilac

    -Leather

Not all mixed together, mind you. But any of those scents that appear similar in BPAL fragrances.

For fresh mowed grass, you want Thunder and Blazes if you can find it, from Carnaval.

Or "A Blade of Grass" which, for me at least, is nothing but perfectly chlorophylly green cut grass.

    THIS.

I would say for the carmex lipbalm, look for blends that have Beeswax as a note - since carmex smells like beeswax to me! Maybe like "Lights of mens lives, or Candles Moon...

  7. And for the record I LOVE  vanilla but HATE :rasp: Eat Me and Drink Me. When I apply them I get a 2 second flash of sweet vanilla cake and then it goes crazy peppery(? WTH) and just gross on me, with absolutely no sign of the vanilla forever more.

I haven't tried Drink Me, but Eat Me doesn't work on me either. I was disappointed. :(

I got an extreme tea note with a soft vanilla, not foody but creamy in dorian. I love it! Makes me feel like a girl:)))

I am looking for a vanilla leather wood! fresh cut wood, bright sweet non foody vanilla, more like the bean, worn brown leather.

MMMMMMM!! I am dreaming of my fantasy scent!

Have you tried Clockwork Couture: Male? (Leather, vanilla-infused sandalwood, East Indian patchouli, bitter clove, galbanum, and iron filings.) It's not super easy to find now, but I think easier than Female, anyway.

I haven't tried that one!! Another one to add to my hunt for list! Banshee beat is my favorite vanilla , in my opinion, it is THE BEST vanilla scent ever!! Lol!

Dolly kei is one is DESPERATELY want to try! A vanilla tabacco amber!!!??!! *swoons*

Dolly Kei is amazing...it smells (on me) very similar to Antikythera Mechinism, but better - it's definitely in the same family! so far, my favorite BPAL vanillas are in Snake Oil, Black Opal, and Banshee Beat -

Detestable Putresence was AWFUL and smelled burnt on me

Love's Phiolosophy was nice, but a bit too foody

    Boo was too Buttery

Rum Soaked French Tonka, again, heavier on the rum, and less on the vanilla

Madagascar Vanilla Rum - again, heavy on the rum, light on the vanilla, but better than the Tonka, Methinks.

Dorian - Pretty close but the tea and citrus also fight for the center of attention

Banshee Beat - :wub2: Can I get a SN of this vanilla please??

Snake Oil - :wub2: swoon :wub2: would also love a SN of this vanilla!! I wonder if it's the same one in BB?

Black Opal - Beautiful crystaline vanilla - very light, but beautiful.

Perilous Parlour - a "musky" vanilla, very pretty for the summer, but again, the pear note takes half the glory.

Antique Lace - :wub2: we seriously need to get this back.

Silver Haired Bat - Is a Benzoin-y vanilla - a little powdery, and resiny.

Death Cap - see silver haired bat

Bourbon Vanilla Bath Oil - LOVE!!! has a sassafrass note, but like Banshee Beat, to me, it just compliments the Vanilla beautifully!! I want a perfume Oil of this SOOO bad!

Midway - some get vanilla salty/sugary, I get foody fried vanilla. I like it, but it's not my favorite.

  8. This was reallydifferent! Usually, anything with red musk AMPS red musk on my skin - with this, I smell the red musk strongly in the bottle, and it almost smells similar to Third charm...then, when I apply it to my skin, the red musk tones way back - not gone, but very muted, and allows the rose to come further up front...there is also an powdery/ambery/incensy kick - which must be from the Black musk. I don't detect much leather, but I think it helps keep the rose and black musk in check. Love this!! very different from Snake Oil! :wub2:

  9. You may also want to grab imps of Obatala and Elegba - they have that coconutty suntan lotion vibe - one of them may be close! I also have the coconut vanilla bean and tiare hair gloss, it actually reminds me a lot of that older perfume "Sand and sable" - it's beachy, but in a tropical coconutty beach sand kind of way. I don't know how else to describe it.

I would say obatala smells the most like Hawaiian tropic, but not sure if that smells anything like Australian Gold. worth a shot since it's GC and you can buy an imp!

  10. What about fruity scents (Berries?) or vanilla? do any of those notes work on you?

For you, if you *do* like Vanilla,

I HIGHLY Recommend seeing if you can track down at least a decant of Banshee Beat...it's amazing. Patchouli and vanilla.

for imps you can buy straight form the lab, for you:

Desire: The overwhelming agony of passion crystallized into a singularly dark and magnetic blend: bittersweet neroli, black patchouli and black musk, gilded by apple, bergamot, blood red rose, teak, and vanilla.

Harlot: Based on a Romany incense blend reputed to induce sexual dreams: Somalian rose, Moroccan rose and Bulgar rose with a sultry dribble of cinnamon.

Jezebel: Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today's upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood.

Lucy's Kiss: Created to represent the essence of Bram Stoker's tragic heroine, Lucy Westenra. Seductive, wanton and deadly, but underscored with a soft, wistful innocense. The gentle scent of rose and a blend of Victorian spices.

Spellbound: Perfectly enchanting! An irresistibly sexual, utterly rapturous blend of three roses, radiant amber, and sensual red musk.

Lilith: Mother of Demons, Vengeful Fury, Darkest Seductress, Queen of the Djinn, Goddess of the Gate. Red wine, myrrh, black musk, and attar of rose.

Alice: Curiouser and curiouser. Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot.

Snooty Rose: Red rose, oud, plum, bergamot, and red sandalwood

The little wooden Doll: Gently carved wood warm with a maternal love that reaches beyond death: rose-infused amber and soft golden sandalwood.

Limited edition Yules (available now, but not as imps):

Peacock Queen:In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred.

Pink Snowballs: A lighthearted winter scent: chilly vanilla rose snowballs! Dainty, soft, and certainly unfit for flinging!

    For your room mate:

    I'll second Anne Bonney

No: 93 Engine: Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage.

Cathedral: Venerable and solemn: the scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiatical blend of pure resins

Damnation: The incense of a black mass, the perfume of perdition. White sandalwood, cedar, frankincense and swarthy vetiver.

Penitance: Smell sanctified! A blend of pure, pious frankincense and graceful myrrh

Cairo: The essence of holy Kyphi, beloved incense of the Egyptian Gods.

El Dorado: Copal resin incense blowing through halls of dazzling gold

Morocco: The intoxicating perfume of exotic incenses wafting on warm desert breezes. Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia. (this is just an awesome scent...one of you should give it a try...it gets even better as it ages!)

Sri Lanka: Indian sandalwood and cedar, and the dry incense smoke of olibanum, gum mastic, patchouli and myrrh.

Limited edition Yule (available now, but not impable):

Midnight Mass: This perfume is a traditional Roman Catholic sacramental incense, most often used during a Solemn Mass. Traditionally, five tears of this incense, each encased individually in wax that has been fashioned into the shape of a nail, are inserted into the paschal candle. This is, of course, represents the Five Wounds of Our Risen Savior. Symbolically, the burning of the incense signifies spiritual fervor, the fragrance itself inspires virtue, and the rising smoke carries our prayers to God.

  11. I'm getting married in 3 months and I still haven't decided what to wear! I know I want to wear BPAL now. I had a brief stint where I was going to wear Vera Wang, but after testing it a few times, it ended up smelling too much like my MIL to be's Estee Lauder Beautiful. uhhhh.

so far here is what I've got for maybes:

    Snow White 2005

    Katharina

I'm thinking floral vanillas similar to Snow White, or peach, or white musk-ey scents. I do not want anything overly foody. I like Peach Moon but it isn't quite what I'm going for. Snow White might not be it, I feel like I have worn it too often. If I can't choose though, I will go with Snow White.

    I want to try:

    Unveiled

The Girl (been wanting to try this for a while actually, it is quite hard to find)

Have you tried Pink snowballs? It's basically snow white with a touch of rose...really pretty!

  12. Like Angelicruin, I like this proto better than the released version...It's definitely more plummy, and I feel it's more of a balance of Plum with the red musk, where in the released it's like RED MUSK and oh hai! Plum.

defintiely more of a stand out to me, since many of the blends containing red musk tend to smell very similar to me (I amp red musk though, so that's why!)

  13. I have to agree with Gwydion and Strahlend - this starts out with a powerful Mahogany note and as it dries it turns sort of incensy/dragon's blood with the mahogany in the background - this is gorgeous, even my DH liked it. On me, it didn't smell manly at all, and the strong upfront mahogany note faded to the background within minutes...I really like this one, but I think my decant will be enough.

  14. This is om nom nom!

I definitely get Red Velvet cake from this - not so much the frosting, but definite cake! I used this as an in-shower moisturizer, and it left a subtle scent on my skin. I can see where the platic-y vibes other mentioned came from, because I noticed it had almost a high pitch almond/amaretto vibe at times, which I could see being confused with a plastic/artificial smell. Either way, I really like it, It's delish!

I decided to layer this with Eat Me and Snow White - (this is my poor man's version of cake smash.)

    :wub2:

  15. Ooo...these are delish! I am actually pretty blown away by how complex these flavors truly are...I was also a little skeptical, that the falvors could possibly be that complex, but they really are!

Goulish - when I first popped it into my mouth, I instantly tasted a bit of the coconut flavor...as the pp's have mentioned, it does take a minute to "warm up in your mouth" for the flavors to start coming through, the cherry, which I agree, was not generic cherry flavored candy, but a definitive black cherry flavor with the hints of coconut peeking through, and as it continues to slowly melt, it seemed the amaretto and the saffron came forward more from the inner layers of the candy. the Saffron almost brought forward a creaminess to the flavor, and the amaretto was very subtle mixed in with the black cherry.

Blue Pumpkin Floss: the blackberry popped forward when i first put it in my mouth, followed by a blast of...pumpkin pie!? how did they do that? I could taste the flavor of the pumpkin, as well as the nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice. as it continued to melt, the pumpkin pie flavor stayed in the for front, with the blackberry becoming more like an after taste. very unique! I would never have thought to pair these two flavors together, but they work!

Autumn Cider - I agree with the others who said this is definitely more of a spiced/mulled apple juice than an apple cider flavor, though it is delicious! I can taste the butterscotch and the lemon zest (though the lemon zest is well behaved.) all together, the flavor reminded me of apples that were being slowly cooked down into applesauce with cinnemon, brown sugar, and a bit of butterscotch

I think of the three, Goulish was my favorite, followed by a tie between blue pumpkin floss and Autumn cider - I liked those two equally, and they were so different, it's hard to compare! I am also now tempted by Confounding Confections's Etsy offerings, especially the Seafaring collection!
