  1. This is stunning! It is a very ethereal white floral that I can only describe as "Haunting" - it has great throw, and every now and again you catch Whiffs of it here and there and it reminds me of catching the scent of ghostly perfume lingering in the air.

I can see a very fine line though for those who can't do white florals and that it may turn soapy on their skin. I didn't get soap, but I can see how some might.

  2. This is a very mature scent - the amber has a perfumy (though not a cloying) quality, that has the overtone of Myrrh. The pomegranate is in the background as a nice fruity backdrop, though it's not a sweet or foody Pom, it's almost dry in a way like a fruit wine (without the booze note)

    Lovely!

  3. Oh I like this!! I think the combo of the oppanax, opium tar, and Patch are translating in my brain to small like Nag champa incense! I get a bit if sweetness from the vanilla, though not a lot...it's just right! And the geranium gives it an almost herbal/green aspect that peeks out from behind the incense like notes. I also get a bit of dustiness from the cedar, but it's an afterthought on my skin... Not being amped at all. I suspect this will age superbly!

  4. Grabbed this from Etsy, and OMG...this is gorgeous! I wasn't sure about it at first, as it goes on a little sharp, like maybe there was some Orris root in there (which has a sharp perfumy aspect on my skin) but after about 10 minutes, this softened WAY down and the sharpness went away and that beautiful vanilla/tonka musk came out to play! This is lovely, and I'm so glad I got a bottle! :wub2:

  5. To me, this didn't smell like banana so much, as maybe banana leaf or an unripe (non sweet) banana - more than anything this smells a lot like the coconut vanilla bean and Tiare hair glass...there's definitely Tiare in this blend! There is a bit of vanilla too, but it's not overly sweet...this layers fantastically with the CVBT hair gloss!

  6. Haumea proto from Etsy is a very tropical scent that reminds me a lot of the coconut, vanilla bean, and tiare hair gloss.

Obatala reminds me of Hawaiian tropic suntan lotion!

Haumea v1? Really I've been dying to find something close to CVBT! I looked up reviews but looks like there are only 2 and they both say bananas.

That's why I bought it...I was hoping for Bananas like the reviews said, but to me, it's more similar to CVBT Hair gloss...with just a touch of green (banana leaf?) it doesn't smell like bananas though, to me at all, unless we're talking green non-sweet unripe bananas. But I would equate that with banana leaf...If I had an empty vial, I would totally send you a decant! It's very summery/beachy IMO.

  7. I never reviewed this one, but funny story:

When this first arrived fresh from the lab, I couldn't wait for my oils to settle before opening them to sniff. When I opened Evening stock, the very tip of my nose actually got too close to the bottle, and a dab of oil got on there...just the tiniest minute amount. So I wiped it off, and carried on checking out my other oils. about 10 minutes later, I had to go outside for something, and I caught this whiff of the most gorgeous blooming flowers I've ever smelled...sort of like when lilacs are in bloom, and the breeze sometimes carries the scent. I searched EVERYWHERE in my yard for the flowers that were producing this intoxicatingly beautiful scent...and couldn't find them anywhere. It was at that point, I realized I was catching whiffs of the Evening stock oil that touched the tip of my nose!

I felt like a moron, but I smelled incredible ;)

  8. I bought this bottle unsniffed, because I had seen some comparisons to Hope floating around...I LOVE Hope. I have a cherished decant of it. I had rose red, but sold it, because it went on really strong, and I never reached for it...not like I do with Hope. So when I saw this being compared, it was a no brainer!

I am VERY happy I went for it. I can definitely see the Hope similarity, as it has the sweet rose element, but more than anything, once this reaches dry down stage, it reminds me of a "pink" version of Delight & Copnsternation! Or even Katrina Van Tassel! It's that sweet CREAMY rose element...it's gorgeous. I can also smell the hints of strawberry, which is where the "pink" comes from, and I love it! I do already have bottles of both KVT and D&C, but this is just different enough, that it's a welcome addition to my collection! Also, the rose in this, even though it says "rose sugar" in the description, smells like BPAL's White Rose note...the same that is in KVT and D&C.

Try this is you like: Bon Vivant, Katrina Van Tassel, Delight & Consternation, Schlafende Baigneuse

  11. Just out of curiosity, BPAL aside, what sorts of scents do you typically wear and like? do you go for more light ariy florals, aquatics, musks,?

There is always a big temptation, when your new to BPAL to order the "most popular" scents...which makes sense, as they are popular for a reason! BUT...every single one of those scents will not work on someone. It all comes down to skin chemistry, and what notes your skin likes best - just because they are popular and well liked by many, they are just not right for you. The wonderful thing about BPAL, is that there IS a scent(s) for everyone! you just have to find it! as you buy/try imps, you should create a swap post in the swap section - anything that doesn't work out for you, list it. Then start browsing other people's swaps posts in the swap section to see if they have any imps they may want to swap with you for.

I'd be interested to see what the list of all of the imps you ordered, and what the frimps were - I may be able to suggest some that might work!

  12. I found The Gorobble very, very cinnamony.

Yup. Was almost straight cinnamon on me. I was crushed because I also love marshamallow, but I don't care for cinnamon scent.

The Gorobble was very cinnamon-y to me as well when it was fresh, but having aged it now for over a year...the cinnamon has mellowed WAY down, and now it is the gorgeous creamy marshmallow with a hint of cinnamon (more similar to Haunt's Cinnamon Girl with a bit more marshmallow) and a hint of smokiness. It's a great cold day comfort scent! :wub2:

  13. Just adding that since my bottle of #OWS didn't have any cocoa sludge, I added a little bit of cocoa absolute to my bottle and Voila! BB's chocolatey sister! This was what I was hoping to get from OWS - initially, without the Cocoa abs., the patch was so strong that it started to turn furniture polish smell on me, like pledge... But with the addition of the cocoa, it stays a nice earthy sweet chocolatey patch...mmmm
