    Debauchery

I try to find something positive to say about every BPAL I try, and for this one all I can say is this: It's name is very appropriate. Debauchery definitely smells like someplace where something really dirty is going on. I literally smell 3 things: cigarettes, pee, and the cheap soap you find in public restrooms. For those of you who can tame this scent and find some egyptian musk and warmth in it (god knows I looked but the egyptian musk I wanted was NOT in here!), kudos to you!! This is the first BPAL that I've tried that I could not even FATHOM wearing. Upon first sniff of the imp, vapours directly entered my brain through my nose and my head started throbbing. Every time I go back for a sniff, I almost gag. I'm assuming my problem with this scent is the civet, I know it is notorious and I've never smelled it before. NOT FOR ME EVER!!!!

    Zephyr

In the bottle/imp: This smells like lemon pie filling tastes - very lemony, but not tart, rather a creamy sweet lemon. Wet, on my skin: The lemon soon dissipates, leaving a very fresh, clean vanilla scent. Drydown: The white musk and sandalwood really emerge here, slightly sweetened by the lingering vanilla. This is a terrific scent!! It smells clean without smelling like baby powder, and dries down to a lovely, warm white musk. This is definitely one of those scents that just smells like my skin, only better. I will definitely be getting a bottle of this!

    Dragon's Blood

In the bottle/imp: Citrusy spice over wet , fresh lilies. Wet on my skin: I don't normally like florals, but dragon's blood is very unique! The sweet and spicy citrus note is gone, leaving a thin veil of tart resin over a powerful lily note. This is not as powdery as most florals are on me. Drydown on my skin: softened, resined liles. This is a very complex scent and it has definite sex appeal. However though I like florals on other people, I just can't stand them on myself - I might wear this once in a while but certainly not all the time.

    Queen of Sheba

In the bottle/imp: I smell something very sharp and green (bitter almonds?), and a lot of pepper. There is also a cherry-almond sweetness, but it's not overpowering. Wet, on my skin: The cherry-almond note quickly disappears and leaves lots of pepper and other spices. I agree that this is a very dry, hot scent, like the smell of desert winds blowing through a bazaar. There is honey throughout, but the honey note on me begins to develop 'cleaning product' tendencies. Drydown on my skin: Still lots of pepper and other spices, with a definite emergence of the cleaning product honey note. I did like this scent but I'm not sure that I would purchase a bottle - I'll have to try it again in a few weeks. I think I may have a problem with the BPAL honey note - it goes lemony pledge on me in every honey blend I've tried - and it's the one thing ruining Queen of Sheba for me

    Chimera

Wow, this is the first BPAL scent that I've absolutely loved! In the bottle/imp: This smells like sweet, thick cinnamon frosting. Tons of cinnamon and vanilla. I want to eat it! Wet on my skin: The cinnamon is still very strong but the sweetness fades a bit and the myrrh and copal start to emerge. Drydown on my skin: This scent lasts for hours! eventually it becomes a beautifully soft hint of spice and resin. Super sexy! I love it!

    Cairo

I was really really excited to receive Cairo in a swap because I was sure I couldn't go wrong with this one... in the bottle/imp: sweet wine, honey, figs, and a touch of lemon (a foreshadowing of what was to come)... this is really sweet, but I like it! on my skin, wet: the sweetness of the figs and honey is completely overpowered by lemon - and as others have said, it's not a light, perky lemon, but definitely heavy, like Pledge. However, there is definitely some nice resin underneath the lemon as well as some amber. on drydown: Although the resins become more pronounced, the lemon never dissipates and instead becomes sickly and powdery on me... and I developed my first throbbing BPAL headache. I definitely couldn't wear this. I'm starting to wonder if my nose just isn't well enough BPAL trained to accurately assess a scent as complex as Cairo, but I just could not wear this, no matter how much I want to I'll definitely try it again later, and if all else fails, as a room scent.

    Bastet

When I first discovered BPAL, this was the one scent I absolutely fixated on. I have always had a healthy obsession with all things egyptian, and my absolute favourite note is egyptian musk. So, I made this my 'must try' scent, and quickly went about getting an imp. I like this scent, but though I hate to say it, I am slightly disappointed in how it smells on me. In the bottle, all I can smell is sweet almonds (marzipan anyone?) and creamy amber. Not bad, but a little strong. Wet on my skin, the almond fades pretty quickly, leaving the amber and an emerging spiciness. Reminds me of a sweet smelling incense I used to burn. This is nice, but I'm really waiting for some nice musk to emerge, and I never quite get it. On drydown, all I can smell is straight up amber (which I find a bit cloying in this blend) and a powderiness that I didn't expect to find. I agree with some others that Bastet is a bit perfumey, and 'old lady' on me, though I am definitely going to try applying a much smaller amount to see if that will help alleviate the problem. This was a total heartbreaker for me, because I was SO SURE I would love this scent. I would probably wear it, but it's going to require some tinkering, maybe layering, and it's definitely not love at first sniff

    Jazz Funeral

I received this imp from someone as an RAOk when I bought another imp, and it's certainly not an imp I would ever have tried just from reading the description! While this scent didn't turn out to be for me, it was a really interesting blend and definitely a must-try for anyone who likes earthy scents. In the bottle/imp: Wow, the dirt/moss smell is very apparent... as well as heavy undercurrent of lemony sweetness. On, wet: Still earthy but the moss note seems to be fading, I can start to smell a bit of bay rum spiciness, and the lemon remains. On, drydown: only a faint hint of the dirt/moss note remains, the lemony note is subdued, and the florals really emerge - on me this is vaguely reminiscent of Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers. I can't smell any bourbon to speak of.

    Dee

My impressions... in the imp/bottle: The incense and smokiness hit me right away, and there is definitely a warm spiciness. I also smell a little green woodsiness. On, wet: The incense and smoke notes are softened, the spice remains, and the wood/woodsiness really came out here. Also something remotely warm and soapy, like a men's soap bar. On, drydown: Woods and spice, soapyness fades, and aha! there's the leather! this would be a fabulous scent for a man, but a bit too masculine for myself (I need more sweetness! bring on the vanilla!)
