    Shub-Niggurath

Finally I get to try Shub! This has been high on my wishlist for quite awhile and it's also been recommended to me because of my love for Morocco, so here we go; In imp: Yeah, definitely smells like gingerbread. Maybe with a little dirt and perfume mixed in. On wet: A gingerbread man that just got dropped into a cup of watered down coke. Mmm. I get a weird fruit loop smell as well. Dry: This smells really good. It's foody but also perfumery, exotic, mysterious, warm, and comforting. Right now it's gingerbread sitting next to a coke that's been squirted with a lemon or lime. It's also reminiscent of voodoo to me but that makes sense since voodoo smells like soda and lime to me as well. This one seems more trustworthy than voodoo though because I don't see this changing much more, and it's minus voodoo's headshop vibe which I didn't care for, and Shub is more feminine and comforting. All in all I like this a lot and I will probably update in a few hours on throw, longevity, etc. Hours later: This went through a weird phase where it smelled like moist, rotting antique books but that lasted for only a few minutes. Then it bounced back and forth from woods I don't care for to gingerbread cookie, finally settling into lemon creme filled ginger sandwich cookies. Mmm. Makes me happy, hungry and excited that fall is coming.

    Amsterdam

I used to wear the perfume Sunflowers and loved it. Somewhere I read that this is the bpal equivalent and ever since I heard that I've wanted to try it. In imp: Ooh, very fresh and bright. I think I'll like this. On wet: This is gorgeous. It's like the lushest, freshly watered lawn on the block has just been mowed on a perfect, blue sky, sunshiney day. I smell the grass most. It's a very thick, sweet smelling grass. The kind that leaves green stains on your jeans and fingers easily. I smell the water a lot as well and I'm afraid it might give me a headache later. But it smells great, headache or not, like very icy water. Dry: The grass has become less prominent though still very present. The florals are pushing their way to the front and the water is getting louder. Throw on a scale from 1-10, 10 being I can smell you from more than five feet away, is probably a 3. Maybe even 2. I don't think it smells just like Sunflowers but there is a similarity. Both are fresh, sunny, carefree and feminine. This would be a decent substitute. Overall, I really like this scent. It's beautiful!

    Seraphim

I'm guessing this will be very pretty so I'm excited to try it. In imp: Smells astringent and like flower pollen with a weird licorace after-scent. On wet: Smells just like cheap white soap. I hope it changes when dry. Dry: I don't think angels would smell like old ladies and to me that's what this smells like. I've already tried to wash it off twice now because it has a similar nauseating way too it that was in La Belle Dame Sans Merci. I'll have to see if they share a note so I can figure out what grosses me out so much. I think if you want to smell angelic Sea of.Glass is a great choice. There is nothing angelic about this one in my opinion.

    Queen of Sheba

This is one I've wanted to try for awhile and was so excited when balame threw it in as a freebie in a swap. Here goes; In imp: Wooh, powerful almonds with a sharp spice. On wet: Same as in the imp, only spicier. It's wet almond covered in a pepper, spice powder. Dry: This is a weird scent to me because the almond is so sweet and the spice is so dry and sharp. I think it goes well with it's name. I could see the Queen of Sheba smelling like this. The throw is pretty strong and lacks the painful edge of the spice that you get up close. The longer I wear it the more I'm liking it. It's like a soft brown almond cookie flavored with allspice and a pinch of black pepper. I really like this! This could be a bottle someday. Yay! Shortly after: I went downstairs and my daughter started commenting, "Something smells like baby powder!" Grrr. Not only that but sometimes a perfume makes me think, public restroom, and I've never known why, until now. It's definitely almond that makes me think of public bathroom hand soap. Not a good association for me. I'll stick with my Morocco which is a similar type of scent but is gorgeous and doesn't do anything weird on me or remind me of anything weird.

    The Hanging Gardens

In imp: sweet. A little floral, a little fruit. Kind of smells like juicy fruit gum. On wet: Mmm, bright, powdery fruit. Still reminds me of juicy fruit but better. I think I smell the plumeria but nothing else really stands out to me. Dry: This is really nice. It's both fruity and gently floral with a soft powdered sugar sweetness dusting it all. Something in it smells almost peppery very faintly in the background. This is very nice but nothing amazing enough to warrant a bottle for me.

    Tamora

In imp: sugar and subtle fruitiness On wet: This is super light when wet. The peach sneaks to the fore rather quickly. I faintly smell the sandalwood as well. It keeps this from being a childish smell the same way the patchouli in Eisheth Zeninum grounds it's peach scent. In fact this reminds me a lot of Eisheth. Tamora is like her younger, more innocent sister. Dry: My body heat warmed this quick and now I'd say the throw was medium. I've been wearing it a few hours now and I love it! It's definitely a new favorite and possible bottle for me. It reminds me somewhat of Mouses Long Sad Tale because of the vanilla sandalwood combo only Tamora is more playful and interesting to me. It's gorgeous and if I had a bottle I think I'd wear it constantly. The peach is strong but not too strong, the vanilla softens it's tartness and makes it more innocent, sandalwood grounds it just enough to keep it from being to childish or foody, and any other notes are unnoticeable to my nose. This is a great blend! I'm so happy I found another scent I love!

    La Belle au Bois Dormant

I am very excited to try this one. B&B works plumeria lotion was my favorite so if it smells anything like that I'll love it. I am also a big fan of tuberose so here goes; In imp: Very pretty. Delicate, soft and lovely. I can smell the creamy smooth sweetness of the plumeria and that makes me very happy. On wet: Very flowery. Kind of watery too. There is something about it that kind of reminds me of a dollar store I went to as a teen. Something smells very sharp and citrusy. Dry: This smells pretty good. It kind of reminds me of a good smelling laundry detergent. It's very crisp and sharp yet soft and flowery as well. I like it but it's too reminiscent of fabric softener to me so I'll probably swap it.

    Eisheth Zenunim

Received an imp as a freebie in a swap. I would not have gotten this by choice but maybe I'll like it. In imp: very sharp and tangy. I mostly smell the peach, which is not a natural peach, but more a candy one. It actually smells like peach shnapps or something alcoholic. On wet: Mmm, very bright and candy like. Very fun scent! The patchouli lends a thickness in the background which turns the peach into alcohol for me somehow. I don't notice the other notes. I guess the honey must be what's making the peach so much like candy though. Dry: Still a woody, candy peach, only it's become much lighter, which stinks because I liked the strength of the scent while wet. Maybe my skin will warm it up and strengthen it. This is basically a warm, pretty, playful peach scent with a woody aspect that lends maturity. I like it. I will probably keep this imp.

    Nocnitsa

I got this in a swap and can't wait to try it. I love the outdoors so hopefully I'll love this oil. In imp: Very sharp. Maybe pine, but minty with a hint of wood. Kind of smells like an aftershave. On wet: woah this is strong. Smells very masculine. Still very sharp. Kind of pine sol with a dry wood mixed in. I hope my skin sweetens this up. Dry: This is interesting. Smells very woodsy but is probably to manly for me.

    Bathsheba

Very excited to try this one, which I received in a swap. In imp: smells like dr pepper to me. On wet: Still smells basically like dr pepper but also kind of like a bathroom cleaner. I smell the plum but the red musk is strangling it and the carnation is giving it spice, which, if it lacked I would wash off immediately. Dry: It's really smoothed out now. The carnation is very strong in this, very spicy with a hot feel to it. The musk is really warm and soft and the plum blends so well with it it's hard to differentiate. I actually think this smells very perfumey. I don't know if I like it or not but I respect it's beautiful uniqueness. One second I think I love it, the next I'm not sure. Hmm.. I'll have to wear this awhile and update later.

    Titania

Got this in a swap. It's one I've been wanting to try really bad so here goes: In imp: Wow. Very juicy and fresh and nectary. Like a peach you just bit that's so swollen with juice that it's getting everywhere. On wet: Uh oh. Starting to smell exactly like watermelon bonne belle lip balm, which I ate a tube of as a kid and threw up. It also smells like strawberry bubblicious gum. Dry: Thankfully that lip balm phase is gone. It's super juicy and pretty. Still smells a lot like a mouthful of strawberry gum tastes, but I like it a lot.

    Prunella

I was so excited to get this in a swap. I've really been wanting to try Prunella badly. I'm just hoping the plum will be nice to me. I couldn't stand Bordello, so we'll see; In imp: Ooh smells beautiful. Very sweet and serene and a bit of tart spunk hiding in the background. I faintly smell the cream, but mainly juicy plum. On wet: Mmm. Smells just like a marshmallow that's been dipped in freshly squeezed plum juice on one side. Dry: This is beautiful. Soft and billowy and relaxed and a tad mischevious and playful. Oh wow, I need a bottle! I would wear this a lot. It's very relaxed yet feminine and cute as well. The plum is lovely and has a mysterious flirtatiousness to it. I was not disappointed with this one. It's better than I expected. I'll update later on throw and longevity.

    La Belle Dame Sans Merci

Received this in a swap. I have loved the painting of this since I was a teen. .bb In imp: Smells very pretty, faint and victorian. Like dried up rose petals mixed with freshly picked ones. On wet: This smells exactly like sweet tarts right now. Dry: I am having a hard time smelling anything but the rose. I think my skin amps rose quite a bit. In the background, when I put my nose close to the scent I get something that leaves a soapy taste in the back of my throat but that seems to already be going away. Hmmm. This is basically all rose on me. A baby pink tea rose still on the stem and the leaves around it are torn and releasing some of their tangy green aroma. I don't think it's that great. Kind of a boring scent to me. My daughter said it smelled sweet and like flowers. Later: I tried twice to wash this off. I definitely am getting that same rotting meat smell someone else mentioned. Gross! It's making me nauseous. It's not the rose that stinks, it's something sweet and musky behind it that I only seem to smell far back in my sinuses. Maybe La Belle has no mercy because she's actually a zombie using a ton of rose perfume to hide the stench of her decaying flesh.

    Aizen-Myoo

Got this in a swap. Not one I'd naturally go for if my choices weren't limited but I'm looking forward to trying it. I still am recovering from a cold though so that may affect this review. In imp: Very sharp, fresh and lovely. Does have a slight cleaner tang to it that I'm sure will fade as it dries. On wet: Ooh, I really like this! It's super fresh, juicy and slightly candy-like. Definitely smells citrus but a citrus I'm not used to. Like an orange and lemon mixed together with a touch of grapefruit bitterness hiding within and the crispness of a crunchy green apple. Dry: I don't smell any tea. Only the citrusy notes and a beautiful floral which must be the cherry blossom. I like this a lot. It makes me think of running past walls of oleander to get to my house on blazing hot summer days as a kid. It has that bitter yet fresh and green note that oleander does. It also smells like a toy I had as a kid, though I can't think of which one.

    Tombstone

I got this in a swap and I have a cold today so hopefully that doesn't alter my opinion too much. In imp: Smells bitter and masculine. I smell the cedar and a faint whiff of vanilla behind it. On wet: My cold is making things smell bitter to me. There's a wood scent that seems very masculine and harsh, and a plastic vanilla like the one in Dorian. As it dries it's beginning to sweeten up more. I think the sasparilla it's what smells bitter, hopefully just because it's still wet. Dry: The bitterness is almost gone. It's all smoothing out now. Mmm...there's the sasparilla. I'm definitely getting the root beer float vibe which I was hoping for. The cedar is still there though, keeping it from being too gourmand. I might really like this. I'll update later today. Later: Dang, I think I would really like this one but it definitely must be the same vanilla as the one in Dorian because it's doing the same thing Dorian did; going play-doh. Even with the play-doh thing going on I still like it quite a bit though. Even later: How many times am I going to edit this? Who knows, because it keeps changing, for the better thankfully. The vanilla in this continued to sweeten. My skins way is to sweeten things as much as is possible, but considering I like sweet smells that's a plus. In this case it sweetened the vanilla beyond the play-doh stage and now it is just this gorgeous, lucious vanilla, like creamy, gooey icing, with a touch of root beer extract mixed in smeared upon the branches of some spicy desert bush. Considering I live only three hours from Tombstone I can say that in my opinion this definitely is a good blend in regards to it's namesake. It adequately represents the dusty, spicy sweet scents of this desert environment. I will be hanging onto this imp for sure and it could likely become a future bottle purchase. Last edit: This one changed on me so much. The vanilla just kept growing and growing and it went from faint to play-doh to gorgeousness until it came to the final godzilla vanilla stage. At the end of the day it got so sweet it was kind of making me sick. Don't get me wrong, it smelled great, but it was just too overpowering. I might try it again later but I don't think I'd purchase again after all.

    Veil

I received this in a swap. It sounds like something I will enjoy so here goes; In the imp: A bright scent, yet also powdery. Definitely feels like a dusky purple color. On wet: No wonder someone said this smells like a baby. Right now this smells identical to a diaper rash cream I used to use on my babies. It's very medicinal smelling with a weird tang that makes me think of the sour center of a purple now-and-later candy. Dry: I dislike this. It is a weird, sour powdery smell that makes me think of an old lady. Definitely will be swapping this.

    Strangler Fig

I got this in a swap and I'm really looking forward to trying it. This sounds like something I'll enjoy. In the imp: Smells kind of astringent. Like window cleaner sprayed in dirt. I think I smell patchouli too. On wet: There is a loud dirt smell with something bitter mixed in that smells scratchy. As it is drying the dirt smell which seems like patchouli mixed with something else, is starting to get softer and the bitter smell is growing. Dry: This is beginning to smell just like baby powder on me. Finally the bitterness has faded and so has the dirt. I'm left with nothing but a smell identical to baby powder. I'm bummed. I really thought I'd like this one. Several hours later: I'm going to have to give this one another try later when it's not my time of month because maybe it's PMS or something but I haven't liked any of the three last imps I tried, including one I've previously liked. This actually did start to grow on me (no pun intended) after awhile. When it first got that baby powder smell I thought the name was perfect because it was choking me, after it calmed down some I felt that although it reminded me still of baby powder but it was much nicer and sweeter, kind of like Burts Bees baby bee scent as someone else mentioned. On me there was absolutely nothing green about this like I had expected there to be. It was very brown. My ten year old was sitting several feet away right after I put this on and said, "something smells good. It smells curvy, or swirly." When I gave get my arm to sniff she loved it and thought it smelled like flowers. Weird.

    Wrath

This was a frimp. Not something I would pick for myself so we'll see how it goes. I like cinnamon so maybe I'll enjoy it. In imp: It smells good. Like nectar with a slight cinnamon bite. Very sweet. On wet: I definitely smell the cinnamon with an odd wood smell in the background. It also smells like incense ash to me. Dry: This smell reminds me a lot of a friends house I spent a lot of time at as a pre-teen and teen. There it was a mixture of cigarettes, cheap incense and dollar store body sprays and lotions all combined. Here in Wrath I don't know what I'm smelling. I get cinnamon, and oh yeah, dragons blood. My friends mom must have worn or burned something with dragons blood. Quite the nostalgic trip here. Overall: Not my thing. Smells like every new age type store. I have never been a fan of dragons blood though. I have a lot of negative memory associations with it.

    Mag Mell

I got this a frimp from the lab and at first I thought it was a pirate blend, lol. So I searched every forum but wanderlust and after two hours finally found it by process of elimination. I was excited to find it basically stood for celtic paradise. I have always liked celtic things so hopefully I'll like this too. In the imp: Very clean and a little sour. Something smells off, like an old shower that just got cleaned with a lemon cleaner but still smells faintly of mildew. On wet: Mmm, it smells like lemonheads. There is a nice softness to it. I faintly smell the ginger sneaking up. Ginger goes kind of wonky on me and I always wonder if it's my chemistry or if it's supposed to smell that way. Dry: The more it settles the more the ginger takes over. Ginger always seems to do this on me. It will completely beat down all the other scents and dominate until the next day. So far the verbena seems to be holding it back a little, which is good. When I try hard I think I smell the grass but it is very faint. This is a very sunny smell. I could see a very sophisticated woman wearing this to shop with friends or something. I will update more after I wear it awhile. The next day: This is a very beautiful scent. It's not unusual or compelling enough for me to want a bottle, but if I had a bottle I'd probably actually wear it a lot. It gets very soft after it's been worn awhile and it smells like juicy, sweet sunshine. A lot of people have said it is too faint and fades to fast but in my experience it had pretty decent throw and I could still smell it the following morning. If I continue to sample this one I might end up growing very fond of it.
  20. I would actually suggest Voodoo for the Huldra. It's a strange blend with lime, vanilla, patchouli, vetiver, pine and maybe other notes I'm forgetting. It doesn't sound like it would smell that good but on me I found it to be earthy, intriguing, and sexy.

    O

In imp: Yummy! A thick, melting honey with the faint hint of amber in the background. Wet: The honey is less thick smelling now. It's more like thin, brown cheap honey, and the amber is getting louder, almost becoming floral-like. The combo of these smells is totally reminding me of the way public restrooms smell. Yuck. Dry: Not much difference. It's sweeter now because of vanilla, but the vanilla is only thinly veiling the nasty bathroom scent. To me, Morocco is a WAY sexy scent. O is not. A few hours later: It's crazy the way some of these perfume oils morph! That bathroom smell has vanished and the vanilla has really become powerful. It's a gorgeous vanilla. I actually really like this now. I would still say Morocco is sexier though, and I don't think I'd get more of this because the bathroom scent at first freaked me out to much. But it really is very nice.

    The Lion

I've been trying to find a scent that is "me", you know, like a signature scent. As a teen it was sunflowers, but I got sick of that and now I'm looking for a bpal that I will want to wear all the time. I singled out The Lion because I enjoy warm, golden scents, and my husband used to call me a lioness when we dated because of my thick blonde hair. Also, I grew up on a farm so the scent of hay evokes really happy memories, so here goes; In the imp: Smells musty. Like smoking a clove cigarette in the rain. On wet: Hmm. Like faint cinnamon gum. Ooh, there's the grassy note. It is sweetening up and blending into a very lion-like scent. Dry: Well this is an extremely well done perfume as far as creating the impression of a lion goes. I am mostly smelling the cinnamon and dry grasses. The throw seems very weak to me. It definitely reminds me of going to the zoo and seeing lions. At our zoo there is a lot of dry grass type landscaping too. The amber must be what's giving the scent the softness it has. This is a lions mane I want to bury my face in and fall asleep, feeling cozy and protected. As I write it's becoming a bit stronger and already it is really growing on me. It is very gentle, like a skin scent. I'll definitely have to update later tonight after I've worn it awhile. Several hours later: I am so happy! I love this scent so much! It's just what I was hoping for. I could totally see myself wearing this all the time. This scent feels ancient to me. Not in a dusty, old nasty way, but in a polished gold tomb artifact sort of way. I could see a beautiful archeologist smelling like this. The things I associate with this scent are what I was hoping to get from snake oil and morocco but didn't. This is what I think that Ruth from the bible would smell like. Beautiful, strong, yet simple and gentle. Steadfast and determined, gleaning the grain in the heat all day while Boaz admires from afar. I definitely want a bottle. So happy!!

    Dorian

Ok, I am way excited to try the infamous Dorian. I love the librarian comments on this scent (I've always been a bookworm), so I'm really hoping this one works for me. In the imp: I can definitely smell lavender, with a faint hint of lemon. Hmm. Wet on: Still mostly lavender, the lemon is a bit stronger but still faint. There's something soft and dark within. This does seem like a masculine scent but yet on a girl it would seem feminine by association if that makes any sense at all. Oh, I think that soft, dark brown picture I'm getting is the tea. I have tried one other tea scent that wasn't from bpal and I expected this tea note to smell like that one but thankfully it doesn't. Dorian's tea note is suttle. Barely steeped. Just enough to know it's tea and not just lemon water. Dry: The more this dries the stronger it's getting, which is a good thing. The vanilla is starting to sneak out and glaze everything. Just when I think it seems too musky the lemon smacks me across the face and I change my mind. Wow. I really like this and there definitely is something very seductive about it. I will not try this on my husband because I want it for myself. It's like tending the herbs (lavender and whatever else is in a fougere) by a lemon orchard at a convent and then coming home afterwards to my beloved husband to enjoy some serious quality time. Ooh la la. The next day: This lasted long. I put it on around 1pm yesterday and it was still going at 2am when I went to bed. I am even getting whiffs of the musk this morning. There was a problem, however. After I reviewed yesterday I had my ten year old smell my wrist. She said it smelled like play-doh. I thought the whole play-doh thing was just in peoples heads but if my daughter said it, who's never read a bpal review in her life, it must be true. Besides, I knew she was right because once the vanilla had crept in I knew something was off. I've used other vanilla bpal perfumes and not had this issue so I think it was the vanilla with the musks combined or maybe Dorian has a different vanilla note than the others. Whatever the case, it was disappointing, but not heartbreaking, because I don't think Dorian is my kind of scent anyways, although I'm glad I got to try it.

    Morocco

I have been longing to try Morocco for some time now. I was engaged to a Moroccan once, and I used to belly dance, so I was pretty sure I would enjoy this. In the imp: Of all the imps/bottles I've sniffed, this one smells the best. It's very creamy. Kind of like cream soda. Wet on: Still reminds me of cream soda, but with a rounded softness. There is something a bit like cinnamon, maybe that's carnation. I've never smelled a carnation perfume note that I know of so I wouldn't be able to recognize it. The whole scent is very well blended. Nothing stands out alone, it's all one luscious, creamy beautiful blend. Dry: This scent barely changes from imp to wet to dry, except in the dry stage it is even softer. This reminds me a bit of b&b works twilight woods scent somehow. They both have the same musky, soft note in them that reminds me of a soft blanket. It's a very sensual scent, like golden syrup with soft spice mixed in. The spice in here is not spicy, it's soft. Lol. It's difficult to describe. This also slightly reminds me of moroccan oil, which I love the smell of. My husband had a very positive reaction to it. It is very sweet on me and I don't recognize any incense or sandalwood. Someone compared this to mouses long sad tale, but I wear mouse a lot and on me the only similarity is that they are both soft, gentle scents. Other than that they are very different to me. At first I thought I'd want a bottle of this but I think it's just too sweet for me. Mouse has that tartness from the sweet pea which keeps it from being sickly sweet, but Morocco does become a little cloying to me after awhile. Eighteen days later: I take it back. Morocco seemed too sweet at first but I just wasn't used to it or something. Whatever the case, My imp has only a drop left in it and I'm so sad about that. I love Morocco! Everytime I wear it I get whiffs constantly through the day and sigh. It is the most creamy, sensual, and cozy smell ever. I can't believe how gorgeous the musk smells on me sometimes. My husband has not directly said he likes this perfume, probably because it doesn't smell like a perfume, it smells like I have the most lucious pheromones in existence, and he has reacted very favorably every day I've worn it. I honestly think he's oblivious as to how much he likes it. Lol. This is 100% for sure a bottle purchase. I think I will be buying bottles of this for as long as I am able to.

    Sea of Glass

In the imp: Smells like some sort of citrusy cleaner. Wet: Ooh. Very clean and bold and airy. I can smell the citrus and ozone notes the most, but some gentle white florals are arriving swiftly. This is not inviting whilst wet. It's more intimidating and awe inducing. Dry: The florals have really emerged now. They make this scent soft and inviting. Without them this scent would be to self-righteous, as someone else called it. It is very pure and beautiful. I could imagine an angel smelling like this. It also reminds me of Galadriel from LOTR, except it's a little too gentle for her. I will definitely consider a bottle of this. The following day: This had great throw. I wore it to a friends and she smelled it a few feet away. She said it smelled so soft and that she loved it. My skin seems to make everything smell soft. Maybe that's how it is with everyone. This lasted forever on me. I put it on early, it was still going strong at six pm but I reapplied anyway to show my friend, and this morning I woke up and it was still quite strong. It took me three washes to finally get off. This scent is so beautiful. It makes me think of a lush meadow full of grass and white flowers and one or two citrus trees. A wind is blowing the dark clouds away and sunlight is pouring through and making all the rain wetted foliage shimmer. Gorgeous.
