    Josie

Wet: Honey and magnolia. Oh my gods I am in heaven. If Josie stays anywhere near close to this, I will need at least 4 backup bottles pronto. Drydown: Honey, magnolia, and the peach starts to peek through. YES. Dry: Honey and magnolia and peach in equal parts. Yes. Yes. YES. YES!!!! Verdict: Out of all the scents I've tried since finding BPAL in May, Josie is the first to make me want backup bottles. When the Weenies go up, a bottle of Josie will be coming along to keep them company.

    Mlle. Lilith, Fortune Teller

This scent really surprised me! Wet: WOAH! Pure incense! I started to panic a little because I was really only smelling incense, but after about a minute and a half, the coconut and sugar came out and blended absolutely beautifully with the incense and left me with this amazing scent. Drydown: Coconut, sugar, pink musk with just a hint of incense. Loving this! Now that the incense is behaving, this is turning out to be full of win! Dry: Sugar and incense. Wow! I've never tried a blend with incense before, but Mlle. Lilith may have changed my mind! I didn't get any pomegranate, honey myrtle, cypress, or orange blossom, which makes me a little sad, but not too much as I unexpectedly adore this. Verdict: This one stays in the picture!

    Klara

I have discovered that BPAL's honey is absolutely gorgeous on my skin, as is their rose notes, so I had to try Klara. Wet: Lovely honey and juicy mandarin. This is really lovely. The honey isn't powdery, just light and beautiful. Drydown: Honey, mandarin, rose, and carnation. The rose and carnation started to peek through, and I was about to start scouring the For Sale pages for a bottle because this was great. It wasn't overpowering but just perfect. Dry: NOOOOO!!!! I can only smell the faintest hint of honey now and only when I press my nose directly against my skin. It's almost completely gone. This makes me so sad Verdict: It was absolutely wonderful for an hour, and even though I prefer that my perfume stays close to my skin, I still need to be able to smell it. The imp will stay though, and I'll wear it on days where I can reapply frequently.

    Brisingamen

Wet: The most lovely combination of carnation and myrtle. It was soft and floral without being old lady-ish or powdery. Dry down: Still beautiful. I am swooning! Completely dry: This is my first blend with amber, so I am assuming that it's the amber that made this beautiful scent turn powdery. It's not entirely unpleasant, and I so very much adore everything else about Brisingamen that I will be retesting this.

    Juke Joint

Wet: I get almost pure bourbon. Not sure about this! Dry down: The bourbon disappears almost entirely, leaving me with a pure sugar and mint rush. At this point, it was pure love. Completely dry: Dill?! What the heck, skin?! Final thoughts: Between the almost overpowering bourbon in the beginning (The Boy looked up and wanted to know if I was planning on making him some of whatever I was drinking ) and the dill when it was dry, this is definitely not for me. So sad!

    Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

This is lovely! Wet, it's pure and strong root beer. While drying, the oak comes out to play and turns it slightly woody, but not overpoweringly. Once dry, the butter note mingles with the sassafrass and turns it into magic on my skin. I don't believe that I'll need a bottle, but I will definitely cherish my imp

    Detox

In the bottle, this was the freshest and most amazing lime scent I've ever sniffed. There was no change in the scent from the bottle to my wrist, and for the first fifteen minutes I was in absolute heaven. I adore citrus with passion, and lime seems to be more difficult to come by than other citrus scents. But right around the fifteen minute mark, it disappeared on my skin. Not even a hint of lime remains I'm willing to break out a scent locket to use the rest of my decant, but this is not bottle worthy.

    Jolly Roger

From start to finish, Jolly Roger is ridiculously good on me. I was unsure about this because I wasn't sure about the leather, but I absolutely LOVE this. It's clean but kinda sexy; this will be my go to oil for rough days. I also can't wait to try this on The Boy because I can see this smelling even better on him!

    Hope

Wet: Beautiful blend of rose and sugar, but not overbearingly sweet or cloying. Drydown: Why hello there sugar. This wasn't an unpleasant scent, but the complete domination of the sugar kind of took me by surprise. I'm not a particularly foody/sweet kind of girl, but I figured I'd keep it on just to make sure. Completely dry: Oh my stars and garters. This has turned into almost a carmelized sugar with a dusting of rose. I couldn't stop huffing my wrist. I need to try all of the BPAL oils with sugar in them now because I am smitten! Love this

    Whitechapel

Wet: Lime! I personally love lime and absolutely adored the wet stage. Drydown: The beautiful lime has left and I'm left with something that smells like baby wipes. What?! Please let this scent be a morpher! Completely dry: Pure baby wipes. Ugh.

    Harlot

Wet: A blast of cinnamon with only the faintest hint of rose in the deep background. 15 minutes later: The rose has come out to play! The cinnamon isn't as strong, but it's still pretty powerful at this point. Dry: What a beautiful blend! I've never tried a cinnamon scent before, but I absolutely love the way this is melding with the roses on my skin. I feel sexy, and the boy seconds that sentiment, even offering to purchase me a bottle. Love this!

    Faith

Faith was my first true BPAL heartbreak. I absolutely adore violets, and in the bottle this was a beautiful violet candy scent. But it did not play nice with my skin chemistry because for the whole 90 minutes I wore this all I could smell was grape Benadryl I'll try this again layered with Hope; if that doesn't work, I'll let it age. But I have a sinking feeling that Faith and I were just not meant to be.

    Lucy's Kiss

This review should probably be prefaced with a disclaimer: I do not like scents with a lot of throw (I don't want my perfume announcing me. If a scent is strong enough for other people to smell without being relatively close to me, then it is definitely not for me. On to the review! Wet: The spices were bashing the rose over the head with a crowbar here while yelling "I'm king of the blend!!!" Dry: Still no rose. All I get from this is spice, which made me slightly ill. To add insult to injury, when I walked into my living room to get the boy to smell it, he was already pinching his nose as I entered the room. Off to the swaps this goes!

    Katrina van Tassel

Wet: The honey is all I smell at first, with only the barest hint of rose far, far in the background. Dry: Wow! It morphed into beautiful creamy-honey goodness with the rose grounding it and keeping it from being overpoweringly sweet. This is a really beautiful scent.

    Persephone

Wet: This had me honest to gods swooning. It's a beautiful blend of sharp pomegranate and soft rose (and I could have sworn I got a whiff of lemon). Dry: Persephone doesn't morph on me but stayed the same beautiful blend. I was ready to propose to Persephone and be (nearly) monogamous for the rest of my days. But unfortunately, my skin ate it and within 45 minutes it was gone I mean, nose pressed all the way to my wrist and nada. I will definitely be trying it again (in a different pulse point, maybe) and as a room/linen spray, because it really is a gorgeous scent.

    Two, Five & Seven

Let me preface this review with a few disclaimers. I am a huge rose fan. I also prefer my scents to have a small amount of throw (I do not want my perfume to announce me, as it were ) With that said, I really enjoy Two, Five, and Seven. Wet: Very sweet rose. I was worried at this point, because I don't enjoy overly sweet smells. Dry: The sweetness has calmed down quite a bit and the rose comes more to the forefront. I've seen mentions of Turkish Delight in previous reviews, and I concur. Verdict: It's a lovely scent, but I'm not sure how often I'll actually reach for this one. But I will let it age before sending it off to the swaps.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

This is such a fun thread! I'm brand new to BPAL and placed my first order this morning, but I'll be splitting another order of imps with my sister here in the next week, so I'd love to hear recommendations from you guys I just graduated summa cum laude from university with degrees in psychology and biology and this fall I'll be applying to graduate programs in neuroscience. I am a HUGE bookworm and read everything I can get my hands on. I'm Native American (Choctaw on my father's side) and French (from my mother). I'm ambitious, extremely Type A, and can be rather competitive when it comes to work/school. My personal motto is "go big or go home" and I apply that to every aspect of my life. I spend most of my day acting like an extrovert when really I'm an introvert at heart. I keep most people at arm's length, but those that I do let in I keep for life I can be obsessive (hence the graduate degree!) and I'm working on bringing more balance into my life. I typically love rose, lilac, jasmine, magnolia, and violet scents, so I'd love to hear favorites in these categories (particularly in magnolia and violet as my first order only included two scents with these notes), but I'd also really love to hear recommendations from other categories as well! Thanks so much!
