    Red Lantern

I bought a 5ml of this unsniffed, and was looking forward to it based on the reviews I'd read. In the bottle it smelled delicious - all caramel, amber and a whiff of tobacco, so imagine my surprise when it turned to dry, dusty soap shortly after I dabbed it onto my arm. I was disappointed and kinda forgot about it after 20 minutes then happened to sniff my wrist about an hour in and... it smelled completely different. No soap, no dust, just sweet, incense-y caramel with just the right amount of amber. I've never come across such a tranformation before, and I'm really, really glad I didn't just wash it off and consign it to the swap pile. This is a really sexy, complex oil and I'll definitely wear it. Lovely.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Hmm.. Does anyone know if Snake Oil + Perversion = anything like Snake Charmer? I was thinking about it last night, and would try it out but I don't have any Snake Oil... I love Snake Charmer so much, but bottles of it are so hard to come by, it's pretty much like looking for rocking horse poop. I swear, if the lab ever ressurects it in any form, I'll have to buy as many bottles as my bank balance can stand. In the meantime.. I'm off to track down some Snake Oil and experiment! ETA: I tried it out, and while it's absolutely nowhere near the rich, sexy, snaky magnificence of SC, it's pretty interesting at first. I don't know whether it's just my body chemistry, but after a while it stops smelling at all similar to SC and becomes much lighter, and even a little soapy. But that's the Perversion for you.

BPAL for Good Luck, Good Fortune, Good Karma

Thanks for the reccommendations - I think I'm definitely going to order Block Buster and maybe Has No Hanna, and I'll check out the others at the next Will Call.

BPAL for Good Luck, Good Fortune, Good Karma

I don't know where to start. My mom's been going through a terrible time for the last year or so, and the past six months have been dreadful. There have been work, family and financial issues.. all of them pretty extreme. She's really worried about her business, because she's self employed and things have been super slow lately. She's afraid she's going to lose her income altogether which is understandable although she's so incredibly talented that I can't believe it would happen. I think she's gotten herself into an emotional hole she can't get out of right now. She's deeply unhappy, and cries a lot. I know that circumstances have to change, and a perfume oil isn't going to be like a magic wand... But I really want to buy her a little gift as a mood lifter, and I think she'd get a mental boost out of something that's 'positively charged', if you know what I mean. Does anyone have any ideas on oils that would be good for this kind of situation? I was thinking of getting a few, and although I'm not relying on her neccessarily wearing them, she loves perfumes like Paloma Picasso, Aromatics Elixir, Opium etc.. *sigh* Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

Hmm. This largely depends on your taste in scents, I think. It also depends on whether you want to come across as sophisticated/sedate, sophisticated/subtle, sophisticated/sexy etc. Maybe I'm overanalyzing. If you're looking for a light scent, I'd go with Kitsune-Tsuki, The Ghost or London. If you'd like something that leaves a little more of an impression without being heavy, I'd reccomend Dorian, Antique Lace or Tiger Lily. Of course, if you're looking for one of those, "What are you wearing? " perfumes, I'd have to suggest The Great Sword of War and Silentium Amoris. They're both distinctive that smell expensive and sophisticated.

    Gingerbread Poppet

This scent was a real disappointment to me. It smelled intruiging and very.. festive in the bottle, but on me, it turned very sharp and bitter. I gave it second and third chances, but I get no gingerbread love.

    Tiger Lily

This is nature-in-full-bloom sexy, and I'm not usually a big fan of straight up florals. It's light and very much like sniffing a lily on initial application, but after an hour it progresses into a very warm, golden, and distinctive scent although I don't get any of the honey that other reviewers mentioned, thank goodness. This one has staying power and stays consistently lovely until it eventually fades away. Definitely worthy of a 10ml.
  8. Strangely enough my husband HATES foody scents with a passion, though he digs the vanilla fragrances. The only scents he's really gone for in a big way were Antique Lace, Snake Charmer and Snow White 2005. And there must be something to the SW05 because every single time I wear it I have men and women ask me what perfume I'm wearing.

    Prada fragrance...

I'd definitely say Jacob's Ladder. You might want to check out the scent description in the LE section of the Lab's site.

i used to be scared of patchouli, in fact, disliked it intensely, and yet i LOVE tezcatlipoca! another one to try with a strong cocoa note is Centzon Totochtin. my most recent bottle of CT is really strong on the cocoa note -- in fact, i wish it had a bit more of the metallic blood that i liked so much in the imp. i'm hoping a touch of aging will let the cocoa step back a bit. but yes, very cocoa, with NO patchouli. n. I'll second that. My husband HATES patchouli with a vengeance, but he likes Tezcatlipoca on me. On me, the patchouli fades fast and all I can smell is chocolatey spice.

The search for "Clean" scents - general discussion

How about The Ghost? That's very clean with a slightly spicy undertone.

    The Peacock Queen

IMHO, this is the quintessential rose perfume that puts everything else I've ever sniffed to shame. It's what other rose perfumes wanna be when they grow up - it's bottled bitch. Seriously, when wet, this smells like the petals of expensive, lush, blood red-black roses, wrung out. There's no green in there at all. This is purely the flower, with nothing else to interfere. I found that the smell stayed true on me for about an hour, then it gradually faded into a faint rosy nothing. I'm really disappointed, because this is the first rose scent I've actually liked on my skin and it didn't have that 'old-lady' smell I usually associate with roses. Boo hoo.

    Snow White

On me, this is nothing but the strong scent of white trumpet lilies. It's a gorgeous scent, but on my skin it's a one note wonder.

    Hell's Belle

This scent was my first brush with Black Phoenix fragrances, and I have to say it's made a believer out of me. I'll definitely be trying more. In the bottle, this smelled heavy and sexy floral/creamy/smoky. Definitely apropros of the name, and it had more character and oomph than the other bottles I tested so I decided to give it a go. Now I'm usually a fan light amber-y perfumes, but this was so grand and infinitely sniffable that I couldn't resist the 5ml. When it came to trying it out on my skin, I forgot that the mouth of the bottle didn't have a stopper and kinda threw half the bottle down my cleavage. Maybe it was because there was so much of it, but it suddenly seemed a whole lot more floral and strangely fruity than it had in the bottle until it dried out. I definitely got the magnolia notes from beginning to end, although as the hours passed it became creamier and spicier. Very femme fatale. I wore the same bra a day or so later, and I had a few people ask me what perfume I was wearing, so I know it lasts on me. And judging by my husband's reaction to it, this is definitely a scent for seduction. I'm on my second bottle already!
