What about Velvet Tiki and Upa Upa? Are they still available? I'm keeping a list for my next order.

 

Velvet Tiki and Upa Upa are both unavailable LEs. I've seen them both around the forum, though. They're definitely not as elusive as The Star!

Would someone mind helping me find a killer coconut/vanilla blend? I got a partial of Velvet Tiki and the wet stage was staggeringly good. It was almost purely delicate coconut and vanilla cream. So soft and warm. I was very frustrated when ten minutes later, the fruit came out more and made it perky/way too playful than the dainty beauty it was earlier. Is there a rec for something like this? I've looked at some of the other coconut/vanilla blends in this thread, but they seem to be on the musky/dark side of things, and I was hoping for something lighter. Black Opal, maybe?

 

I don't suppose you like rum scents, do you? I really love the vanilla and coconut in Upa Upa, which also has pineapple and spiced rum. If you're at all interested in tropicals, that's one of my favorites from the Atomic Luau Lounge.

 

ETA: Lol, cannot believe I didn't suggest this... but Tattered Lace is all vanilla and coconut on me and it's very light and creamy. And probably much better suited to your tastes.

You'd have to like pear, but Perilous Parlor is by far my favorite vanilla. Very sweet and vaguely reminiscent of coconut.

Honestly, this smells nothing like I expected it to smell, which was something more along the lines of a whiter, less fruity version of Red Lace, which has a very dark feel to it in my opinion. Tattered Lace is alarmingly... well, thin. It does smell very nice and I do like the initial burst of coconut mixed with vanilla that's just a little on the boozy side (though fortunately not as vanilla-flavored-ethanol as Celeste was!).

 

I'm not really sure what to make of it. The almost-fruity first stages startled the hell out of me, LOL. This one definitely needs another test.

This isn't a scent I would have picked out on my own for fear of it being much too sweet, but I was very, very pleasantly surprised by the frimp I received of this in a recent sale. This smells exactly like a candied apple, with perfectly tart granny smith tones against sweet, gooey caramel. I was very tempted to take a bite out of my arm, LOL.

Simple and gorgeous. I love the balance between the juicy pear and the soft vanilla. This may be worth sniffing out a bottle.

This smelled gorgeous in the imp, but on my skin it was almost pure thyme. Blech.

I'm a bit amazed by this scent, tbh. I was wary of the description as a gentleman's cologne and even warier of the lilac, which I really can't stand. But Whitechapel turned out to be everything I ever wanted in a lime perfume---all lime, all the time.

I really don't get any white musk (which I adore) from this, but it's such a bright, juicy lime, that I honestly don't mind.

DAMN IT. I think this is the first really rare scent that I've fallen in love with. Okay, guys, I definitely see what all the fuss is about. This is absolutely gorgeous, though on me it does not actually smell like apples---it smells like I just sliced open a watermelon. Either way, it's absolutely a cool, fruity (but not at all artificial) scent and I'm terrified about the ends to which I'm going to go to hunt down more.

Resurrecting this thread because I have a question!

 

Does anyone know what makes blends smell fizzy, since they're not actually carbonated? Does it have anything to do with juniper, or am I just cray-cray today?

 

I'd never even considered Tombstone! The sassafras made me think it would essentially smell like a root beer float, though if you don't think it's foody then I'll give it a shot in my next imp pack. Lyonesse has been on my "to try" list for a long while, though I didn't imagine it as a big vanilla scent either (many people seem to say it's mostly amber/musk) - it'll be interesting to see what my skin chemistry does with it, considering the amount of notes. BB seems pretty popular, but I'll keep a watch for it nonetheless. Thank you!

 

Just butting in to give my two cents...

 

It's possible that Tombstone could smell like that on you, but cedar is a pretty strong note, so unless your skin eats wood notes (totally possible), you're probably good. Tombstone is basically vanilla and cedar on me and not foody in the least. It's really not sweet enough to come across as foody.

 

I only got the faintest hint of vanilla from Lyonesse. On me, it was lilies and musk and a touch of moss. It's definitely one of the more interesting scents I've smelled, though. Aquatics tend to work horribly on me, but I found Lyonesse quite lovely. Very atmospheric!

This was totally worth buying a bottle unsniffed, which is something I very rarely do, as even the best lists of notes (Hesperides, I'm looking at you) can turn on me. In the bottle, this smells thick and heavenly and sweet. On my skin, it starts out perfectly balanced between the vanilla, rum, and coconut. I looooooove the creamy beginning stages before the pineapple starts to come into play. At that point, it sort of smells like a fruitier, smokier version of Elegba.

 

Admittedly, I was a little sad that it only took a couple hours for the top notes to fade, but I really love the spiced rum that's left behind. Yum!

Not getting any pastry, which doesn't bother me. The lab's pastry note is horrendous on my skin, so I don't mind at all that it seems to have disappeared here. I'm definitely feeling the blueberry marshmallow thing, but I'm not entirely sure whether I like this scent or not. I do like the marshmallow smell, but it's all overlaid by the hemlock, which makes them smell positively sinister.

 

Conceptually, I adore this scent. I have a total clown phobia, but marshmallows >>>> my phobia any day. But I'm not sure if I personally want to smell like evil marshmallow cream and the smell of the hemlock legitimately makes me scared, LOL.

For anyone who's tried both of them, do you find Red Lace and Mme. Moriarty to be similar? They share red musk, vanilla, pomegranate, and patchouli, so I'm thinking they must smell a lot alike. Red Lace is pretty much the only blend (with the exception of The Night-Raven) where I can stand the patchouli. Is it stronger, weaker, or about the same in Mme. Moriarty?

I find that the prototype XCDL13 has a Madagascar vanilla extract smell to me. It's dang near impossible to find though.

 

Celeste has Madagascan vanilla bean in it as well. And it is definitely a boozy extract smell.

I bought a partial bottle of Aremata Popoa, since I really love the imp I have, but they smell really different. My imp is fizzier and brighter. The bottle is like soda gone flat. Is it likely that my imp is much newer than my bottle?

 

I was frimped an imp of Aremata Popoa and fell in love with the fizzy blackberry booze. Then I ordered two bottles (right before they were discontinued this year) and they are completely different, way stronger on the rum almost buttery-caramel-like . It sounds like it's the other way around- your imp is probably older.

 

Ugggggghhh, that's exactly the difference, too! You think it'll improve with age or am I probably just out of luck?

 

I have no idea, I too really hope that the bottles ages into that lovely blackberry like in the imp. So far I have just sampled the bottle again and it isn't very similar yet. Maybe it will take a little more time...

 

 

I had this problem with Blue Fire. I was so desperate to get this bottle, my imp was gorgeous. My bottle... didnt do anythign for me. It was like the boring version of what I remembered. I'm wondering if I should try a different bottle, or just leave well enough alone

 

DAMN. Now I'm twice as worried, LOL. I haven't tried Blue Fire in imp form, but I have a partial bottle coming and now I'm worried it will be atrocious.

I smelled the champagne in this and man oh man, I think I might have a hangover.

 

I want to love this so much, so I'm going to give it another chance after the Unholy Red Tide has ebbed, but right now I'm thinking that I'll stick to Bon Vivant for all of my champagne needs. I tested Champagne and Roses expecting to see that same champagne note (which is pretty soft and fizzy like soda) and this is just so incredibly sharp. A big disappointment, but I'll give it another shot in a week or so.

 

ETA: Also worth mentioning... I tested Champagne and Cigars and Champagne, Chocolate, and Cheap Sex today as well and I'm sad to say that the three are virtually indistinguishable on me.

I've been slathering Pomegranate II for the last couple of days.

Not as heavy on the pomegranate as I hoped, but definitely a keeper. I love the combination of grapefruit and lime that I'm getting over the white musk (my favorite kind!). Fruity and fun.

I looked through the forums FAQ and did a search but I didn't see this topic anywhere.

 

I was frimped 2 prototype bottles. Is there a forum specifically for prototypes? I'd like to do a review of them. One I love and would like to keep the other possibly swap.

 

So I'm looking for a forum to discuss, swap/sell and review prototypes.

You can do all that here. It depends on what the prototype is, as to where it's located, but "unreleased scents" and "event exclusive oils" under the reviews section are both likely places.

This is straight-up pink lime and grapefruit on me, which is wonderful. I was really weirded out by the mention of chocolate mint in the scent description, but I haven't smelled it yet, so I'm pretty happy. I may just have to get a bottle of this. DAMN YOU, BPAL. *shakes fist*

Not a perfect match, but Roadhouse dries down very similar to One to Tie, Two to Win on me. YMMV, of course, depending on how much of the hemp and hops you amp (I get none whatsoever), but they're pretty close. One to Tie, Two to Win is definitely the brighter/sweeter of the two, though.

This smelled so pretty until it gave me rashes all the way down both arms.
