    Dilution and Carrier Oils

Mixing a carrier oil and any other oil typically isn't a problem. Yes, as stated, they might "separate", but you just shake-shake-shake the container and they magically meld back together. You might also want to warm the container between your hands if you find the oils are separating. Usually, if they're warmer, they'll gel back together quickly. 'Least, that's my experience with them. I tend to put funky stuff in my oils, though, herbs and whatnot, so that helps to keep the oils cohesive with the carrier oils.

    Dilution and Carrier Oils

VelvetSky: This site explains it better than I could: What are Carrier Oils? Carrier oils also referred to as base oils or vegetable oils are used to dilute essential oils, CO2s and absolutes before applying to the skin. They “carry” the essential oil onto the skin. Different carrier oils offer different properties and the choice of carrier oil can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought. Carrier oils are generally cold-pressed vegetable oils derived from the fatty portions of the plant. Unlike essential oils that evaporate and have a concentrated aroma, carrier oils do not evaporate or impart their aroma as strongly as essential oils. Examples of carrier oils are sweet almond, apricot kernel, grapeseed, avocado, peanut, olive, pecan, macadamia nut, sesame, evening primrose, walnut and wheat germ. Most oils bought in the grocery store are not cold-pressed. Instead, the oils are heated and therefore have less therapeutic benefit. Mineral oil is not used in aromatherapy because mineral oil is not a natural product. It is also said that mineral oil can prevent essential oil absorption into the skin. Essential oils do not go rancid. Carrier oils, however, can go rancid. Carrier oils that you purchase should be natural and unadulterated. Exceptions include buying carrier oils that have natural vitamin E added. Vitamin E acts as a natural preservative.

    CCNow or PayPal

Woohoo!! Let me know if you need tips or ideas on how to review the internet orders yourself for validity of information (cardholder info, order IP's etc, etc). That's what I do all day at work (at least, when I'm not posting here or looking at nekkid people).

In the bottle: Yikes! Very citrus! And there's something else there that I can't quite put my finger on. I'm not really sure I'll be liking this one. Wet: Um... still not loving this one. The citrus smell is there, and there's something else that's hitting the back of my nose in a not-so-happy way. Dry: Okay, I'm liking this one now. The grapefruit isn't as overpowering as in the bottle or wet. And the other scents are coming into play in a delicous way. It's not too powdery yet, which I was afraid of. It's got a sort of musky flavor to it, but it's sweet, too. Final Impressions: This is definitely a spring/summer scent for me. It's so clean and sweet, with just a hint of musk. I'm digging it. I don't know if it would be a great fall/winter scent -- maybe on those days when you need a little spring-time sweetness with just a hint of something mysterious. Ooh... mysterious sunshine BTW -- my first review! Hope I did okay!

    Input, please!

Does I count if I'm only sniffing oils vicariously through others, and am awaiting my first order? Name: Stacy Psaros URL, if applicable: http://www.enoznuf.com Photo, if you don't mind: Crappy pic but here it is. Wish I had my halloween one scanned in... Sin of Choice: Wrath or Lust Virtue you embody: Honesty, Integrity, Loyalty. Though, using Tygher's virtues (BTW, that Nova Roma site has heeps of info and a really good yahoo group): Comitas, Veritas, Libertas, and Felicitas Astrological Info: I'm a Libra with Sag rising, Moon in Cancer How you found out about BPAL: TygherRayn's persistant ICQ's gushing about the oils Any comments you'd like to add about the Lab or life in general: Regarding the Lab, this is, quite possibly, one of the friendliest bunches of people I've ever had the pleasure of chatting with online. I've had a lot of fun sifting through the wonderful reviews, which makes it really hard to pick just a few scents to try! I love scents, and work with essential oils myself, so I was absolutely in awe of the vast combinations that Beth's managed to create.

Ooh yummy! I can't wait! I was already planning for my second order anyway And I agree that UPS and FedEx are *heaps* more reliable. If we didn't have to deal with USPS at all at my job, my life would be very much easier. Though, I just placed an order last night. That won't be affected by any migration to new systems, will it?
