    Port-Au-Prince

Wow, this one is strong. Unfortunately it has the sour/burnt smell that Gingerbread Poppet had on me, too--must be some spice that doesn't work well. It also has the strong-fake-butter smell that Sugar Cookie did on me. Not a good blend for me. Fortunately there are other almond, spice, and sassafrass blends that are great on me, so it's not the end of the world.

    Delirium

Smells like rose on me. A nice soft rose, not too soapy, and every once in a while I get a hint of the apple, but mostly just rose. I wish there was a version available without rose...oh well! ETA: Ok, this should be a lesson to me not to write reviews based on a first impression. The first day, this was all rosey...when I tried it again, I can smell the apple & lemon a LOT more and the rose is much more toned down so it is PERFECT. Very juicy and fresh and a wonderful summer scent. I am usually not big on florals but I like this one a lot and will be getting a bottle!

    Eat Me

This is very nice, and it does somehow remind me of a lighter and fruity Snake Oil....interesting! The currants are fruity but in a sophisticated way and the rest is sweet-spicey. Makes me think of white frosting with purple accents. I was going to say that it fades quickly on me, but I was wrong. It actually lasts all day with occasional bouts of hiding!

    Whitechapel

A beautiful blend, though one that doesn't last long on me. The lime is delicious and citrus-y without being too sharp. The lilac rounds it out and gives it a little powdery sweetness, though not a candy sweetness or the dreaded baby powder. And I guess white musk is OK on me since I find nothing objectionable in this scent! Funnily, on my boyfriend it is much more lime-y and sharp (still nice, though) and strong-smelling. I am going to try it mixed with lotion since it fades quickly on me. But it is wonderfully blended, a really nice fragrance.

    Personal check?

One more reply to this. I just placed an order by snail mail and had an email from Sara at the lab suggesting I use a Sherman Way address in the future, as that mailbox is checked more frequently than the Hillshurst box. (I emailed the lab because I had mailed my order a few weeks ago but not gotten a confirmation message yet.) I can post the complete address she gave me, but thought I would hold off on that in case it's NOT what the Lab prefers...let me know if you want me to post it.

    Lucy's Kiss

I am not big into rose scents so I haven't used this one much, but today I am wearing it. At first it is just plain rosey, but later on it seems just a *little* bit like ... a rosey Snake Oil? Not quite as spicey/sexy/whatever as SO, but just a little bit similar....and definitely more than just roses there. So a very intriguing blend!

    Yuletide

This smells like mulled cider with spices on me, and it's delicious. Beautiful and not overwhelming, not too sticky-sweet. Great!

    Santa Eularia Des Riu

I get a sort of dark, juicy lavendar on this, which later becomes more sweet and floral. A very pretty, fresh scent, probably great for summer.

    Lick It

In the bottle and wet this smells sharp, one-dimensional, minty. After a minute or so to dry, it becomes a very very nice peppermint scent--sweet but not sticky, minty but not sinus-stabbing, present but not overpowering. Very cute!

    Hearth

This is the first BPAL scent where I've sensed different "stages"....sweetness (similar to Gluttony, though not *quite* as pancake-y) followed by smoke and pine boughs....very pretty and cozy, a nice cold-weather scent. This didn't do the bad fake butter scent that Sugar Cookie did on me, so it's very pleasant. I'm not 100% convinved I smell chestnuts, which are a little spicey and earthy--I'd love to smell chestnuts more--but it's very nice.

    Mistletoe

Yep, very nice and simple pine/evergreens. Definitely something I would enjoy wearing in Nov/Dec as I am getting excited about Christmas. It lasted several hours and at one fleeting moment there was almost a candy smell mixed in with it...don't know if that came from Mistletoe, or from me still having cookie dough on my fingers that day!

    Sugar Cookie

Phew, this one didn't work on me. I got a very strong "butter" scent (like the fake butter on movie theater popcorn) which had a salty edge, plus heavy sweetness. So it smelled kind of like that kettle corn stuff that is sweet & salty at the same time (not my fave combo). Then after a few minutes it smelled like some cinnamon red hots had been thrown in on the kettle corn. I actually felt nauseous from the "butter" after a while and had to wash it off. Thank goodness some of the other foody scents (Gluttony, Bliss) are tasty on me, so I can part with Sugar Cookie. Away you go to be swapped!

    Kabuki

Cherry cough syrup all the way, on or off! The idea of this scent is great, but it doesn't work on me at all. It sure is strong, though.

    Black Forest

Phew. *cough* Pine. Musk. Baby powder. Pine is the only one of these three that I like and musk gives me a raging headache. This is a very strong scent on me, and very dark--definitely evocative of the concept! I can see how this would be a great scent for some people. I had to wash it off.

    Gingerbread Poppet

Warm, cozy gingerbread spiced with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. Smells wonderfully like gingerbread in the bottle (and I spilled it on the label so it smells like that OUT of the bottle, too). On me, it takes on a sour smell underneath the sharpness of the ginger--as a matter of fact, it smells suspiciously like the dreaded play-doh note, with sharp bitey ginger on top. Waaah, I wanted to love you, GP, but you don't love me.

    Silk Road

I don't understand what the hell I'm smelling with this one, but I love it! Its very herbal/spicy, but not too hippie-ish. Probably best as a cold-weather scent for me but it's one of those BPALs I want to smell over and over again. Yum.

    Delight

This smelled mostly like jasmine on me. *cough*

    Bengal

Wow, this a beautiful cinnamon-gingery sweet smell, but it doesn't strike me as terribly foody. I love it because it's not too musky or "like perfume" though. Really delicious and beautiful!
  19. OK, I am so new I have hardly tried any scents yet....but you might consider Queen of Sheba, which is a kind of spicy almond thing. I'm not big on musks and I find Q of S to be really nice. And she was certainly and interesting (& powerful) historical figure. Can't help you with florals as they're not my thing. You might look at the reviews for some of the voodoo blends--I think a couple of those are supposed to be for personal power/creativity/etc. rather than seduction, and the reviews can clue you in as to the notes in them.

    Tombstone

Sniffed this in passing as part of a swap. Wow, this is just beautiful. I'm not sure I smell the balsam or sassafrass (and I'm familiar with both actual trees), but the smell of cedar with vanilla is absolutely wonderful. The cedar fades and the vanilla become more predominant but it's still nice. It lasts a pretty long time and is just warm and sweet (though not cloying) and beautiful. Like Brianne said, I don't think it's necessarily masculine, but I would love to smell it on a man. As well as on me. Permanently. I LOVE it! ETA: This does last a long time on me--I can smell it almost all day. It's not overpowering or choking, the way Snake Oil can be (I love you anyway, Snake Oil!), but is just present all day long in a subtle but detectable way. Which is the way I like it! I love it even more now that I own a bottle.

    Bordello

rooty tooty fresh n fruity! This is very fruity on me, and I also get a bit of almond. It doesn't really smell sexual to me, in the way Snake Oil or Blood Kiss do, but it is a nice full, dark fruit scent--a bit like fruit-flavored hard candies, but good ones. Num!

    Yerevan

I received this in a very generous swap from OriginalWacky! I didn't care for this the first time I tried it, but it has grown on me. It's definitely apricots with a hint of flowers, but there's another scent hiding in the background. It's the kind of thing that is utterly familiar to me but I can't quite put my finger on what it is--it's almost reminiscent of a fresh coconut to me, though not a toasted or sugared coconut. I'm not sure what it is, but it makes Yerevan very intriguing. I love apricot scents and while March Hare is my favorite, this is nice for a change--a rounder, softer, more complex apricot scent, with something else lurking in it. It's quite delicious.

    Danube

A nice light, delicate floral with the aquatic note, which smells like a sort of distant grapefruit on me. It's a very pretty scent, though not for me--I really don't like the aqua-grapefruit fragrance. But this would be great for someone who does like it who wants a light, gentle floral.

    Envy

Tangy sour mint. Almost medicinal or like eucalyptys when wet (not necessarily in a bad way). However, it fades very fast on me--doesn't last long at all. This one doesn't do a lot for me but it's a nice way of interpreting the concept.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

I received this as part of a very generous swap from OriginalWacky. It is indeed very cheerful and uplifting--I was wearing this yesterday when I was driving across town, and saw a vanity plate that said "KUMQUAT" and started laughing hysterically because kumquat is such a cool-sounding word, and it seems really silly to have it on your license plate, and also I was wearing a fruity citrus-y scent which was a major coincidence!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!! Whoa. It smells a lot like oranges on me--oranges with something sweeter, maybe a sliced orange with confectioner's sugar scattered around it. A really delicious and bright scent. Not at all too strong (like orange cleaner). I think I prefer March Hare for fruity (a little more rounded and less light), but this really is wonderful & joyous.
