    Variety of Pleasing Amusements

Honey, leather, tobacco, and myrrh. Oddness... for some reason this equals Celeste with additional tobacco. Has tons of throw. I disliked Celeste as it has a note that causes instant headache I always thought it was the vanilla orchid/ orris combo but this smells almost the same.

    Gamaliel

Gamaliel starts out smelling a bit like Skytyping with Chemtrails. Like fresh but sweet lemongrass. When it dries there's a darker note coming through which might be tobacco or clove. This is a difficult blend to pinpoint, it's warm and dusty but also tart and at the same time, creamy.

    Playful Wooden Mallets

Oh yes I definitely get the Haunted references. It's basically a sexy dry black musk. This is very much like the musk in The Black Temple Burlesque Troupe only without cocoa. The cinnamon in this is behaving very well, it adds a woodsy background to the musk. It reminds me a bit of the 'spices' in The Lion. I already knew from reading the notes that I would like this (I'm a big fan of Haunted) I need to do an all-day-test to see if it's bottle-worthy though.

    The Star

Got a decant of the Star frimped, thanks a lot! Wet: this is greener than I expected. It smells almost like lemon verbena with the tiniest hint of coconut. Rather herbal. Dry: the coconut has amped considerably but there is also a waxy note that I can't identify. It's still mostly herbal lemon with waxy coconut. Verdict: the combination of that butter/wax note with the lime is making me feel slightly queasy. Another htf scent that I don't have to look for.

    Havana

Is there orris in here? I smell orris. It could be the snakeroot or date palm because I have no idea what they smell like. So to me this smells like orris plus sweet tobacco. It morphs to a salty cologne after a while. Not a scent for me.

    The Vampire Bride

This is different than I had imagined. Usually red musk or blood musk is one of those notes that I amp but it's amazingly subdued in The Vampire Bride. Wet: there's the violet leaf and white tea and maybe some wormwood at the background. It's really rather light and pretty. Dry: it gets more interesting on the dry-down. I get the crypt dust and musk with violet leaf twined around it. Verdict: this may need some aging to bring the woods and musk out more but overall it's a nice scent. I haven't smelled any Bpal quite like it.

    The Best Mint Blends

My favorite mint blend is Juke Joint. It's the one mint-blend I smelled so far that isn't too much in your face MINT. On to the notes: Juke Joint - A bawdy, gleefully wicked and unruly scent: Kentucky Bourbon, sugar and a sprig of mint.

    Nothing Gold Can Stay

On wet: This is seriously green like fresh grass cuttings, with a hint of banana... Drying: Still a very sweet grassy scent, the unripe banana is still around too. Not unpleasant so far. Dry: Well this turns out to be one of those blends that doesn't morph a lot. The grassy note does take a back seat a bit but otherwise it's still sugared grass with a hint of banana. It's nice but not something that I need a bottle of.

    Saw-Scaled Viper

In the bottle: this smells...stale or a bit musty, like cinnamon that has been lying around in a closet for years. Wet: Seriously dry sweet cinnamon with maybe a tiny hint of ginger. I can't detect any Snake Oil yet which is too bad because this blend could really use some. It still has that musty smell underneath. Based on the notes it should be a winner, oh well can't love them all. Edit: ->lost in translation.

    Tree of Life

Wow this is a great scent! It does remind me a bit of The Antikythera Mechanism when it's wet, the wood note in it especially. But this ends up way smoother. It starts out with sharp ash bark, galangal root and kashmir wood softened by the tonka with a hint of chocolate. The chocolate evaporates quickly on my skin and the mandarin appears. When it dries it morphs from harsh woodsy galangal to creamy sweet woods. Tree of Life is very well blended, the woods are at the front followed by a creamy tonka the other notes meld smoothly with the rest. This is like the woodsy sister of The Anti-Saloon League. They both have the same kind of sweet creamy base with shaper top-notes. On me this has a huge throw plus it lasts nearly a whole day.

    Till Death

I'm not familiar with half the florals in this so I can't make an accurate guess of what I'm smelling here. Please bear with me . Wow this is stunning in the vial. On my skin wet: to me honeysuckle always smells vaguely of sweet green tomatoes when it's wet, so green tomatoes amidst a crowd of soft florals. This is a white/orange floral. As it dries the green tomato disappears. To me this is a nicely blended fresh floral. It's not overpowering but has enough throw to last a while. It's elegant and somewhat old-fashioned. Verdict: This is a gorgeous scent.

What do bottles and labels look like?

The Vine! That label is so cuuute.

A Companion Of The Same Nature

This is unexpectedly nice. First off I haven't had the pleasure of smelling the mums note before and I'm pleasantly surprised. This is what I had hoped one of the autumnal scents would smell like. It's dry leaves with mums some linen and skin musk. The amber is making it smell a bit perfumey, just how I like it . Strangely my skin isn't amping the rose, it's very well blended also carnation is nowhere to be seen. I would have loved it more if the carnation had showed up, but overall it's interesting enough to keep a decant of.

    Death Adder

I'm guessing that this is quite a 'new' bottle of Death Adder that I'm reviewing here. The vetiver is prominent but behind that there is a sugary almost rum-like coconut and a hint of Snake Oil. I'm not really into vetiver scents but the vetiver in this makes it so much better. You first have to go through the iffy vetiver stage but it's so worth it as after that you get an amazing coconutty snake oil! Without darkness there can be no light right? Death Adder has a huge throw.

    Thousands of Lights

To me this smells like waxy cheese in the vial. This is my first encounter with the beeswax note and it's not agreeing with me at all. On my skin it smells like a very waxy floral candle that's just been snuffed out and is somehow going sour. I had expected to like this scent as it has so many good reviews but this must be scrubbed off right away.

    Nosferatu

Frimp from the lab. This is surprisingly fruity and light. Yes there is some dirt but it's blending with a light floral feminine scent. Not at all what I had in mind when reading the notes. As it dries the floral, it's definitely a floral as I get no wine from this, amps making it a pretty pink scent dusted with tilled earth. It smells innocent and airy. This is so odd, maybe this one deepens into something horrifically earthy and boozy with aging?

    The Phoenix At Midnight

Yep orris plus something green like an unripe tomato. I had expected some musk but it doesn't turn up just yet. The orris/ tomato combo sweetens as it dries and finally the florals turn up masking the green scent. Honeysuckle is at the front melding prettily with the iris, the iris making the blend a bit powdery. There is still a sweet green note underneath that I can't quite place. The musk and the jasmine are the last to turn up they give this blend some strength and throw. The Phoenix at Midnight is a light scent, I had expected indigo musk + orris = perfumey battering ram but it's quite pretty.

    The Phoenix At Dusk

Yay jonquil! I quite like this. It's not too herbal (sage is one of my death notes) and a pleasantly airy perfume. It starts out a bit green then the florals kick in, the white honey is barely there though it does sweeten the blend. This is a very unobtrusive and (to me) nostalgic blend. If you like this give L'Ecole des Filles a shot too.

    Dust of Snow

This starts out smelling like The First Soft Snow and ends up close to Ice Queen. A chilly and slightly fruity scent. Like sniffing a blossoming fruit tree laden with icicles.

The Last Evening of the Year

In the vial: le toilet cleaner. On my skin: this morphs quickly to fabric softener. I guess it's the linen-note. It's quite nice and pretty though I'm not sure if I would wear it a lot.
  21. Monday

    Pink Snowballs

This smells exactly how imagined it. It's Snow White with rose wheee! The rose is a bit on the tart side which works really well with the vanilla. I went for a bicycle ride and was amazed at how this amps on warm skin, a little goes a long way. It's a rose scent that I can (and actually want to ) wear! Definitely need a bottle.

    Pale Student of Unhallowed Arts

This is fizzy, like Gnome is fizzy. There is something of a floral in there, it could be a faint lavender or it might just be ozone. This scent is difficult to describe. I can see how people would call it 'clean', it does hint vaguely of fresh laundry, purple fresh laundry for some reason. It ends up as a masculine version of Spinning Multicolored Metallic Pinwheel on me, not my kind of scent.

    Perversion

The perfect scent to wear to your next bondage ball, dungeon adventure or sojourn to your favorite pleasure dome. Smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka. Whoa this is seriously sugary, boozy rum! There is also lots of buttery coconut. As it dries it becomes sharper and more spicy. Then the tobacco shows up like a late guest at a party (and Perversion is a party in itself) making it a bit of a masculine scent. I don't get any leather in Perversion and I'm not sure whether I would actually wear this. It's really a bold scent. Edit: spelling .

    TKO

Okay, so I dislike lavender with a passion, it does the complete opposite of what it's supposed to do (send me to sleep) and keeps me awake with it's sharp herbal scent. I still wanted to try this because some reviewers mentioned that TKO is a doable scent for lavender haters. It is. It's pretty much the cozy vanilla of Snake Oil with lavender. I like it . I might even need a bottle of it .

    Port Royal

Frimp from the Lab. This is seriously salty. Port Royal is rather masculine and perfumey in a sharp kind of way. The clove hovers over the salty scent adding some warmth, but it doesn't really blend together. For me this is too disjointed.
