    Tzadikim Nistarim

this didn't work for me. i thought it smelled pretty nice in the vial. and i LOVE the concept of this oil. but when i put it on: oh dear...i get the cat pee thing, that someone mentioned in another review. and although i detect and enjoy the pineapple, i get an overwhelming aroma of "old lady hair salon". you know - the hair dye or perm chemicals that smell like sulfur? i just couldn't ignore that smell.

    Akuma

this was a lab gift (thank you!!). reminds me a bit of succubus (orange!) - maybe a bit brighter, and fresher. i am very glad to have it because i gave my succubus to a friend (she loves neroli..) and this is a good substitute, when i am craving fresh, juicy, orange-ness. it is quite a "sunny" scent. not "evil" at all, although it is in the "diabolis" category. it's pretty straightforward - fresh, happy, juicy...to me it has a very "positive" energy.

    Laudanum

god, i love this one. this was one of the first bpal oils i tried - i've always been fascinated when i've read about laudanum in old books. this is the closest i'll get to trying it, i guess. it makes me think of a dark, dark root-beer sassafrass-y brown color - almost black. so soothing, sweet, syrupy and spicy all at once. if it's medicine-y, it's a medicine i wish i could try. it always makes me think of a thin, handsome, 1800's guy, all strung-out, hallucinating off of laudanum. but he has beautiful visions. i dunno...it's a very happy smell for me, not sinful at all, actually. i get a lot of compliments on this one, too.

    Blood Kiss

Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk. this is a real interesting scent...there's so much going on, i wasn't sure what to make of it in the vial. - more bitter and "woodsy" than i expected, almost too much so. i thought it would be all cherry/honey sweetness. but in the end ( on the skin..) it works. it's like the sweet notes and the bitter notes are battling it out. then they get tired of fighting and plop down, exhausted, on a red velvet victorian couch in a wood paneled room. i dunno why this smells so woodsy to me - the vetiver i guess, but it's quite soft. and the clove is so subtle...i only get a touch of cherries, but that's ok. i forget how much i like woodsiness. especially when it's laced with sweetness. really great, and a bit mysterious.

    Sybaris

somewhere i read a comparison of this to lush skinny dip, and i'd say that's sorta accurate. i love skinny dip, and i love sybaris. hooray for violet and clove! such a great combo. Love. It.

    Tintagel

i love the word "tintagel". it remindes me of an old photograph, for some reason. it smelled so amazing in the vial, due mostly to the dragn's blood, i think. but when i put it on: oh dear. it kept reminding me of urinal cakes - the little red waxy-looking disks they put in the bottom of urinals to make them smell better. you know: "greyhound bus station bathroom". must be...i dunno - the pine? bayberry? - i just couldn't get away from this sickly sweet bathroom deoderizer thing. but then, later in the night somebody gave me a hug and said "dragon's blood!" and she really liked the smell. obviously some people do. i'll give it a pass, tho'.

    Wanda

wanda was a freebie imp, a couple of orders ago. lucky for me - who knows if i ever would have tried it, and it's turned out to be one of my very, very favorite bpal oils. it's sweet yet sultry. the wine is great, the leather is great...it is always so pleasing and satisfying. it also blends with my chemistry in this totally natural way... and yes i do sense a subtle violet, after a while. it makes me feel powerful; in control of my desires and needs. now if i could only get a date!

    Tezcatlipoca

holy cocoa puffs, this is a great one. dark, deep cocoa. but not a candy-like scent, it is much more regal. smoky. the leather works great. a rich, worn, antique leather armchair, yes. and it makes me think of bathing on a mountain top in mexico...in an old copper tub filled with steaming cocoa beans! oh, it is good.

    Carnivàle

whoa, this one is great, i think. a bit bubble-gummy at first, but not in a "cheap" way. it's sort of "tingly" smelling. a little magical. happy and sweet. ...funny, i don't get a real fruity-fruit thing, it's well-blended. all i can think is that i visualize something like sparkles...it's an effervescent "fun" scent. me likes!

    Love in the Asylum

yeah, i have to admit that this one is different than i expected - very rosy and sweet. but my expectations were all about "tonka! tonka! tonka!" and i'm not sure i'm picking up much of that. there's something spicy (carnation? i forget ) lurking in the corner somewhere. not sure yet on this one. but the label is so great.. i guess it's the asylum room? very nice.

    Penny Dreadful

crap! i loved the idea of this one, but i don't know if i got a bad batch or what, but it smells like ammonia! not good. i get the "earthy" thing that's been mentioned, but it smells like earth where someone dumped a bottle of ammonia onto it. not good.

    Undertow

undertow showed up as a surprise gift in my last order. i hadn't really taken notice of it, so i probably would never have tried it. and it's a good one - i get a bit of absinthe somewhere in there. and the mint is mellow not sharp, the lotus is soothing, not overly sweet. it's like a dark olive green rough ocean, at night. soothing, but deep. like sleeping by the sea. ahhhh

    Shanghai

shanghai the smell somehow doesn't remind me enough of shanghai the city (not that i've actually ever been there). it smells better on skin than it does in the bottle, and i like it for a short while, but then the smell starts to be something i don't relate to. it is too sharp and crisp, and sweet in a way that reminds me...all i can think of is "suburbia". new cars and shopping malls. don't know why i have that association, but it reminds me of a suburban lady that just got her hair "done" and nails "done" and is wearing ugly jeweled high heels. it 's not a dreamy enough smell for me. but, as always, - glad to have tried it.

    Ultraviolet

i had just about given up on this one...but i think i like it better now. it's a bit too toothpasty for me - like colgate or scope. i have to search for the violet in there...i was hoping it would be a richer violet. still, it's fresh and clean, and a bit modern, i guess? it's interesting, but i'm not crazy about it.

    Séance

whilst sniffing the imp i really didn't know what to make of this one. but wearing it is a completely different experience; actually, it reminds me of wandering through an old greenhouse at first. mossy, damp, and full of ferns and exotic plants. it's surprising and nice. pretty quickly though, the greenery fades, and at the end of the greenhouse corridor, a big ghostly rose appears, just hovering there, like a mirage. it's quite pleasant. kinda like that lotion, "rose milk," my granny used to use. i like it - it's pleasant, and not at all overbearing.

    Velvet

i've been enjoying this one...wore it to "charlie and the chocolate factory" last night. it's got that girl scout cookie thing - what are they called" thin mints" or something? or the "grasshopper pie" with the chocolate cookie-crumb pie shell. anyway, yeah - chocolate mint. but the thing that saves it, or makes it nicer is this almost dry, dusty...chalkiness, almost. it's not a gooey chocolate mess, it's a dry, dusty, dusky cocoa thing. smoky even. sandalwood gives it a secret, invisible softness, instead of a screaming chocolate syrupiness.

    Absinthe

Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon. absinthe has really been growing on me. i love licorice to begin with, and that's the main thing i get from this one. a real dark blackness - almost rubbery, or like fresh tar. but it's not too heavy -- a good dose of mintiness, and a bit of chocolatiness, makes it refreshing, even on a boiling hot day like today. doesn't remind me so much of the liqueur, more like a big jar of rich, bitter, black licorice in an old fashioned candy shoppe.
