  1. So very glad I took this off my Sale page! First test, it really wasn't good. It took a day to settle. Odd Portents is one of those BPAL's.

So very pretty. The Lavender doesn't dominate- I think the Bourbon Geranium ( a very good note for me personally) keeps it in check.

Black Rose, whatever cultivar it is, smells divine. I haven't been having much luck with Rose in the last year or so.

  2. Adorable label. Pretty in the bottle but it totally disappears on my skin. How can something that smells so foody in the bottle just go poof like that?

Cake Smash & Teatime in Rosewell didn't show up on me either, interestingly enough.

  3. This shouldn't work on me, but it does. Earthy usually means fail for me. In this regard, where an earthy or foresty blend that doesn't work actually smells amazing on my skin, I compare this to Incantation.

It's got this subtle sweetness to it. Perhaps the booze. Maybe it's the "weeds".

This does indeed come across as clean dirt.

  4. This is gorgeous and I can barely wait to get a bottle for a slather. Agreed with above poster who said "high end perfume".

Ambergris and Ambergris Accord does a lot for my skin chemistry. Sort of like Benzoin secretly makes everything better. I'd love to know where Beth got this accord or if she made it up herself.

  5. The Hag really exceeded my expectations. Which wasn't hard, cause I had none to begin with. Vetiver it must be noted, is hit or miss on me. Most often miss.

At first, it seemed the Vetiver was going to be over-bearing and a clear miss BUT, within mere seconds it receded and blended beautifully into all the other warm golden brown and olivine scents.

The Bourbon Vetiver is wonderful with just a touch of smoke and balsamic goodness and the Blackcurrant and Rum add a nice vein of sweetness.

This blend smells the most like Autumn and Halloween out of all the other Halloweenies so far.

The Hag most likely be even better with some aging.

  6. I'm glad this is getting so much love from other BPAL'ers.

On me, this was overwhelmingly Espresso with a sour, scalded Milk and just a bare touch of Pumpkin.

I agree this reminds of Starbucks and I HATE Starbucks coffee. It tastes/smells burnt.

I went back and tried my Pumpkin Patch V and it is still rocking with my skin chemistry so I'm set with past years' Pumpkin blends.

  7. Puffy clouds of pumpkin candyfloss with a trickle of blackberry juice.

I had to check the label after reading the reviews. My first impression is every single review so far is totally wrong.

On me, BPF has zero spice. And I usually amp spice like cinnamon so it's a mystery where it went on my skin.

Also, zero buttery pumpkin, candy floss or berry.

I got Squash. A single-note Squash. Maybe if I want to at least sound more interesting I"ll go as far as saying "Hokkaido Squash".

    Weird.

  8. In the kitchen were frogs roasting on the spit, and dishes preparing of snail skins, with children's fingers in them, salad of mushroom seed, hemlock, noses and marrow of mice, beer from the marsh woman's brewery, and sparkling salt-petre wine from the grave cellars.

BEER FROM THE MARSH WOMAN'S BREWERY
A beer flavored with marsh arrow grass, yew berries, purple foxglove, and giant hogweed.

Got this for the Beer note. This does smell like Beer but not so much that it seems like I just spilled a pint.

This is beer with a fresh and herbal aspect and a vague floralness.

A very nice Kitchen Smell from a small cottage on the edge of a field.

  9. My experience was apparently not the norm- I get creamy Vanilla coupled with a Narcissus. It's so dense. Not a whiff of Orris or Violet Leaf.

The Vanilla and Narcissus work together to make a sort of Uber-Vanilla. I am reminded of the scent of Paper Whites blooming.

Like an 80's bridal gown with big hair. Beautiful but way too much.

  10. The Cherry note is why I got a decant and having sampled this it lives up (or down) to my low expectations.

The Lab's Cherry note always comes across as medicinal, alcoholic and chemical on me and this is no exception.

I get the rest of the lovely notes but the Cherry is overbearing and wrong.

  11. This was a gigantic FAIL of epic proportions on me.

It was sickening and I could not get to the sink to scrub it off fast enough.

Something in this reacted horribly with my skin chemistry. Wish I knew what it was so I could assiduously avoid it for the rest of my life.

  12. Dark, almost smoky undertones are what make this special.

So there is a reason Beth put "glowing hearth" in the scent description.

This is a more meditative and magical version of BPAL's two Hearth blends from Yules past.

But then, Finland is further North and wilder.

For me, this version of Mrs. Claus does indeed remember when Santa was a shaman.

In my imagination, this Grandmother Yule may live in one place in a house with an oven but she remembers when the people lived and moved together as one with the reindeer.

Here is a Youtube featuring some Joikers:

  13. If only it were possible to get a 25ml bottle of this and make a full line of soap, moisturizer and perfume of this.

This is the sort of scent a lot of companies aspire to make but don't quite nail.

    Perfection in a bottle.

It is delicious, pretty, sexy, comforting and nostalgic all at once.

Haven't been this jazzed up about a BPAL since Lawn Gnome.

There are a number of BPAL scents that one could obviously compare this to but IMO, Spiced Lait de Chèvre is the culmination of quite a few of them.

  14. Without the notes my observation was "Ripe Fruit and Full-Bodied Florals".

Apparently, Winter In My Room means daydreaming about warm tropical climates, pouring through travel leaflets for Hawaii and watching South Pacific.

I was a bit surprised to find out the fruit notes were yuzu and grapefruit as they are fairly reliable for me. I'd guessed Melon which is probably due to the assertive, sweet and creamy embrace of the Tuberose/Peony combo mixing with the Pikaki.

I do like this but am finding it doesn't quite reach its full potential with my skin chemisty.

Perhaps if I was younger or going on a cruise this Winter and needed a perfume to go with my new sarong.
