  1. KNOCKOUT DROPS
Bourbon vanilla, white mint, and white chocolate with a squirt of lemon meringue and a dribble of absinthe.

The Mint/Lemon/Absinthe all combine together and makes me think of some sort of cocktail.

It's nice but I am literally drawing a blank on other descriptive terms.

This is a perfume that is both there and not there.

I think in warmer weather this would be great for when you want something nice but not necessarily attention getting. Like a good work scent.

  2. BONES TROMBONE
Pie crust, smears of blueberry marshmallow cream and lemon meringue, and hemlock.

I get the tartness of the blueberry and lemon, a very subtle touch of evergreen (that is actually quite nice) but very little of the pie crust, marshmallow cream or meringue.

I like this but think it verges on masculine and would love to smell it on a guy.

And I am almost certain other BPAL'ers will get more of the foody-goodness. My skin chemistry is notorious for burning through notes like that within seconds.

  3. SUGAR MOON
    No way to see him
    on this moonless night ---
    I lie awake longing, burning,
    breasts racing fire,
    heart in flames.

Sugar cane, black currant, violet musk, black orchid, gardenia, plum nectar, carrot seed, teak, strawberry, and dusky rose.

This is marvelously sexy. Deep and kind of dark.

Not that sweet though this may be because my skin chemistry rips through sweet notes quickly.

I can't distinguish the separate florals. They are a bouquet. A very nice balance between the florals and the fruits.

  4. This arrived today just as I went shopping for lemons to make lemon meringue pie. LOL!

It's like that but without the pastry. Pretty sure this is a keeper for the up-coming hot weather.

Surprised I like this so much as lemon usually overwhelms my skin chemistry.

  5. I'll reiterate the words "simple, soft and clean".

Maybe just a wee bit of headiness from the Rice Wine.

It's a fabulous spin on BPAL's skin scents.

In a way it really portrays the subject matter as it's a scent that's been stripped down to a bear minimum for striking effect.

Just to clarify by saying clean- it's not ozone or citric or baby-powderish. It's just not fussy.

  6. Dazzling and elegant are adjectives others have used that strike me as very appropriate for this scent.

Combining Plum and Grapefruit, two of my favorite notes, was a stroke of genius. And they absolutely manage to keep the Florals well behaved and fresh.

    Lovely.

  7. CELESTE
I have always been capricious and proud. No one, among women whose tendency it is to say 'yes,' derives more pleasure than I do from saying 'no.' So the men to whom I have given the most are those who asked least of me.

Elizabeth Venard, La Comtesse de Chabrillan, was known to her friends and lovers as Celeste. She first found fame as a dancer in Paris' Bal Mabille where her grace, beauty, and talent earned her the nickname La Mogador: the Moroccan fortress could not have resisted soldiers with as much skill as Celeste juggled suitors. She became a famed equestrienne at Paris' Hippodrome until an accident propelled her to move into the life of a courtesan in earnest. After many years of success as a popular demimonde, she entered into a tempestuous, passionate relationship with Gabriel-Paul-Josselin-Lionel de Chabrillan that culminated in their scandalous marriage. They loved each other without reservation, and she remained by his side long after he became destitute and had nothing to offer her other than his love and his name. They settled in Australia, and she pursued a career as an author until she was forced to return to Paris alone due to poor health. Lionel attempted to gain a post in France in order to be able to be with her, but was rejected because of his past indiscretions, and died in an accident while on his voyage back to Australia. Devastated, Celeste turned to the theatre for catharsis and consolation, and became a successful playwright and manager.

Madagascan vanilla bean, vanilla orchid, orris root, and saffron.

Celeste is pretty but perhaps a bit dry and less full bodied than one might imagine.

I took a chance with the Saffron. It combines with the Orris and makes me feel nostalgic with a tinge of melancholy.

This is not the Orris of Black Pearl, that's for sure. It's a bit rougher.

  8. KITTY
Kitty Fisher was born into a life with very few prospects for advancement. She was the daughter of a modest Lutheran silver chaser, and in her youth, she worked as a milliner's assistant. Longing for something more, she capitalized on her natural beauty, her wits, and her boldness, and launched a career as one of Britain's preeminent courtesans. Her beauty was legendary, and she was the muse of many famed artists of her time, including Joshua Reynolds, Philip Mercier, and James Northcote. Her barbed wit, free lifestyle, and love of excess constantly landed her on the front page of Britain's gossip rags. She fell in love with the grandson of Admiral Sir John Norris, and gave up her career to marry him. She settled in as lady of the house, and turned her talents to building her husband's fortune and generously providing assistance to the poor.

French vanilla, tot house orchids, strawberries, white sandalwood, bergamot, and honey.

Kitty is a beautiful and timeless scent that tugs at my heart.

She replaces Regan and Shadow Witch Orchid for gorgeous Vanilla and Orchid/Florals. Though this is way less 'floral'.

Although she is sweet, there is nothing cloying about her.

The Strawberries are fresh in from the warm sun and not candy.

  9. Wild woods, Bulgarian rose, tolu balsam, vanilla absolute, ambergris, honey, and vanilla.

This is so very, very smooth. The woods are pleasantly aromatic. The rose is really subtle. The vanilla is also laid back.

Surprisingly unisex. In fact, it's verging on masculine. Is there a touch of vetiver in here? Something vaguely feral.

Very little change from bottle to skin to wearing.

  10. I love this too. But I"m not getting "fizzy".

I'm getting sort of an ozone or aquatic feel... maybe to mimic the salt water taffy? I'm pretty sure this is accomplished by a musk and a floral. But this is in the best possible way. It's jelly bean perfume no a perfume that smells like jelly beans, if that makes sense.

  11. The Champaca, Tea and Patchouli are bolstered by the Benzoin/Amberis. The Iris is really just a bit player to my nose.

Patchouli and I have a highly problematic relationship but what's in this blend is so very smooth.

Could see guys and girls both loving this.

This is going to age beautifully.

  12. Seance, is that you? Oh, no... this is more complex.

Goes on very subtle and takes a few minutes to really register anything. So my advice is give this one a few minutes all to itself when testing.

I smell the Rosewood and then out comes the Rose. The other notes aren't prominent but keep this from being overly dry with all the woods.

    Great unisex blend.

  13. I wouldn't argue this is not well-blended but the words that came to my mind were "jumbled" and "muddled".

This starts out more Harlequin and masculine with the woods, herbs and evergreens on top.

It ends up, an hour later, as more Columbine and feminine with the Currant and Vanilla coming forward.

Lasts a long time on me and the dry down is wonderful but it takes too long to get there on my skin.

  14. Klara is gorgeous. Floral Honey without being cloying or piercing.

Speaking frankly, Klara makes up for the loss of three of my favorite florals this week (Shadow Witch Orchid, Moon Rose, Regan).

    Yes, she's that endearing.

  15. I giggle like a school-girl every time I see "Mr. Fezziwig's Ball" and do wish this had been named "Fezziwig's Ball" instead- if you get my drift.

This is a very happy and nourishing scent. Warm and inviting.

Mince Pie and Beer as advertised.

The Spruce is pretty laid back and so are the Spices so this avoids the Christmas Candle trap pretty well. In fact, this blend has some of the best behaved and well-contained spice notes that I remember.

Surprisingly less Beer than Mince Pie. Although the Beer comes back after a while.

And the "Pie" aspect is closer to the savory more than the sweet.

I agree with Alderci's take on this having a rustic quality. Something in here smells a bit "dirty" in the best possible way.

Edit- this somehow manages to disappear very quickly on me. Oh Well, it's a fun and enjoyable scent though.

  16. THE FIRST OF THE THREE SPIRITS
It was a strange figure—like a child: yet not so like a child as like an old man, viewed through some supernatural medium, which gave him the appearance of having receded from the view, and being diminished to a child’s proportions. Its hair, which hung about its neck and down its back, was white as if with age; and yet the face had not a wrinkle in it, and the tenderest bloom was on the skin. The arms were very long and muscular; the hands the same, as if its hold were of uncommon strength. Its legs and feet, most delicately formed, were, like those upper members, bare. It wore a tunic of the purest white; and round its waist was bound a lustrous belt, the sheen of which was beautiful. It held a branch of fresh green holly in its hand; and, in singular contradiction of that wintry emblem, had its dress trimmed with summer flowers. But the strangest thing about it was, that from the crown of its head there sprung a bright clear jet of light, by which all this was visible; and which was doubtless the occasion of its using, in its duller moments, a great extinguisher for a cap, which it now held under its arm.

Even this, though, when Scrooge looked at it with increasing steadiness, was not its strangest quality. For as its belt sparkled and glittered now in one part and now in another, and what was light one instant, at another time was dark, so the figure itself fluctuated in its distinctness: being now a thing with one arm, now with one leg, now with twenty legs, now a pair of legs without a head, now a head without a body: of which dissolving parts, no outline would be visible in the dense gloom wherein they melted away. And in the very wonder of this, it would be itself again; distinct and clear as ever.

“Are you the Spirit, sir, whose coming was foretold to me?” asked Scrooge.

    “I am!”

The voice was soft and gentle. Singularly low, as if instead of being so close beside him, it were at a distance.

“Who, and what are you?” Scrooge demanded.

“I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.”

“Long Past?” inquired Scrooge: observant of its dwarfish stature.

    “No. Your past.”

Shimmering white amber, voluminous vanilla, white musk, zdravetz, and summer flowers.

This was the Christmas Carol scent that seemed made just for me and it's the first bottle that came out of the box! Geranium is a good note on my skin. It's depth blossoms so nicely.

My impression, soft and pretty. Almost cozy.

Whatever Amber went into this- no trace of powder.
Whatever Vanilla went into this- no hint of gourmand.

A lovely aromatic perfume just a touch on the herbal side.

The Floral notes give this a golden glow we'd associate with the Spirit of Christmas Past.

Thank Goodness! I was a bit apprehensive thinking the Floral notes might be White.

Can easily see a guy or a gal wearing this. So fans who seek out Florals that aren't overtly "girlie" might want to try this.

  17. This is really sexy on me. Sexy and kind of raunchy.

Cardamom is usually a note of doom. Here it combines with the opium tar for a sort of dirty smut-girl, sexy vibe.

This is sexy for me the way some find Smut or Infernal Lover, for instance. This doesn't smell at all like either of those two scents but it plays the same hot role for me!
