  1. My turn:

I have a huge sweet tooth and will never pass up dessert. I also collect dessert/food shaped jewelry. I have short red pixie cut hair and act as though I am a pixie when I can. I'm really young at heart I feel like a 17 year old trapped in a 30 something body...I love to make people laugh but I'm also a great listener. I'm very responsible and nurturing. But I can also get snappy if you cross me. I don't like confrontation and will cry before I yell. I love toys, creepy cute dolls, video games, tattoos, manga & anime and I obsessed with all things Halloween and Tim Burton. I love anything creepy cute.

    Recs??? :wub2:

    EDIT: for typos.

    Lolita, Jailbait, O, Morocco, Fae.

I was hoping someone could recommend a scent for me, I'm rather new at this, don'tcha know. I would describe myself as odd. I'm looking at majoring in math (previously engineering), however I want to be a librarian. As you could probably guess from my handle, I knit and believe in fairies. I want to be seen as... lady-like, almost, but with more bite. I'm comparatively innocent; by that I mean sex is not the first thing that springs to mind during conversation, not that I am unaware of the ways of the world. Something that can be elegant, yet playful. Like a cat, or some of the older fairy tales.

    Thank you for your time!

Ave Maria Gratia Plena, Fae, Lady of Shallot.

  2. From its earthy, spicy opening, it keeps on expanding and softening throughout the dry down. While the patchouli acted as the main player at first, it now seems like ALL the notes are trying to balance each other out, not one is trying to play center stage, it's a perfect blend of earthiness, mystery and come hither flair.

It's a great seductive scent that will leave a ton of unanswered questions in its wake, "who is she?" being the first and last one on everyone's mind.

Does it evoke lust? That depends on the wearer, of course.

But I can definitely see how a light silage of this following a woman in a crowd would catch the attention of quite a few people.

It is, however, a less is more scent: Overdo it and people will laugh and run away while holding their noses.

Do it right and you will leave many with their knees shaking and their every thought fused in your direction.

  3. I have an imp of this so I decided to test it. And I'm in loooooooove... OMG this is the perfect coconut: Not too sweet, it conveys the feel and texture of coconut rather than the taste, which is why b00cat finds it not foody, I think. This is a wonderful scent! Cozy, cuddly, nurturing, pretty, soft, warm and (yes) fuzzy.

A security blanket scent for grownups.

This is totally the scent I would pick on days when I wear my cashmere ruana. :lovestruck:

  4. I'm fresh to BPAL. I'd like recommendations for the first scent I should try.

I spend most of my time either writing or reading. It bothers me not to know something so if I hear a reference to anything I'm not familiar with, I'll usually look it up and commit it to memory. I'm stubborn as a rule, a bit lazy, and I tend to procrastinate. I also tend to pretend I'm not a girl (not that I'm a boy, more that I have no gender).

I enjoy martial arts. I've done some Aikido, Kung Fu, and Judo (mainly Aikido b/c the other lessons were few and informal). I am a violent person but I don't enjoy people's pain. I enjoy fighting because I want to be stronger and also because that feeling you get when you're tired and covered in good clean sweat from pushing yourself, with your muscles aching that ache that feels good afterward, is my idea of time well spent.

My humor can be a bit dark and morbid. I tend to be obtuse when it comes to being sensitive to others, but its not all the time. I usually keep my opinions to myself and prefer to spend time alone. However, when I'm around someone I'm familiar with, I loosen up a bit, and end up laughing a lot and acting like a dork. Most of the time, though, I calculate every move I make as if it were the key to my survival, mainly because I like to be in control of myself and don't like to be made a fool of. It's both a bad and good quality.

When I have an awful day at work, I find myself trying harder to be nice to our customers simply because it would make me feel like a hypocrite to perpetuate that awfulness. I enjoy being in nature somewhere because its so wild and alive and relaxing, but I couldn't spend forever without being able to either watch a fight or actually fight someone. I could get by for a while with an unlimited supply of books and an everlasting I-Pod.

Looking back, I thought I would look a bit different in writing that I do. Hm. So, please help me pick my poison.

I see scents of opposite in your aura. Darkness is incredibly beautiful to me. It has the depth and stubbornness of evil, but it uses it for beauty instead. (at least that's how I experience it, lol) Bengal comes off as an all full of piss and vinegar tiger but soon starts purring, rubbing foreheads and gets all contemplative. Black forest opens up with a shriek (the scent equivalent of a flying spin hook kick, if you prefer) and then mellows down to a fluid, quietly executed form.

  5. I won't talk about the notes because everyone has done it so well there's little that can be added. But here are my impressions of the scent:

I don't get the name of this scent at all: Rage? Hatred?? Are you kidding me???

What I get is piquant mystery, wondrous exoticism, an achingly beautiful enchantress who, without a word, leaves a trail of questions and troubling memories in her wake.

The scent is spicy, yes, but the spice is counteracted with softness and mouthwatering yumminess without getting in the teenage foody mess, somehow. To me, it conveys calm, centeredness, focus, all perfectly balanced with that take no prisoners-dead on sexy-terminally seductive streak that comes from self knowing, confidence, and the kind of class you can only be born with because it's too elusive to be acquired.

She's Bengal's better educated older sister. If there's any wrath in her, it's the icy hot white revenge born from lots of deep thought and reflection, years after being wronged: you won't remember you screwed her over by the time her vengeance slams down on you, and you sure as hell won't recover.

Once her payback has been dealt to her satisfaction, she stretches contentedly and purrs like a cat basking in the sun.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck, I so totally looooooooooove this, whoa!!! :lovestruck:

  6. Incensey, musky, boozy floral. There's something troubling and addictive, in this one, I can't put my finger on it. Sort of a "forbidden" skin scent: like intimacy exposed, almost a stealth predator with lascivious, lecherous intentions, a narcotic seduction leading to raw celebration of arcane eroticism. This isn't "having sex", it's full on fucking.

The sillage suggests everything your parents never want you to know about. Complete with the disheveled, sweaty, raccoon eyed look , the voice worn and hoarse and the exhausted smile.

    This is another favorite.

  7. Wet on skin: Pinesol on crack :ack:

Drying: Softens considerably, feels cool and breathy

Drydown: The scent of skin and hair after a long walk in the woods

Verdict: This is superb. The ambergris and black musk combo is the tits!! :wub2: I got this unsniffed in a full bottle, I'm so glad I did! :joy:

ETA: Good god, this stuff rocks. *swoon*

  8. Drop dead gorgeous for half an hour, but turned flat, generic, then plasticky-soapy. :(

    Will retest.

    Retest day: SUCCESS!!!!

This is unfathomably beautiful. The narcissus tamed down a bit, the scent got a little powdery, gently musky, the myrrh and opium stayed perfectly balanced. Simply gorgeous.

  9. Oh, I so wanted to love this one... And I did, for the first half hour. It was so damn pretty. But then it turned flat, like a soapy/plasticky nightmare just sitting on my skin like a very unpleasant guest. I had to wash it off. I will retest it in the future, though.

  10. Why O why does this smell like plastic vanilla, on me? No spice, no woods, no musk, just icky plastic vanilla. :(

Will retest at a later date.

Retest: Oh boy, what a difference temperature makes! When I first tested this, the weather was cool breezy and dry.

But tonight, the air is sultry and warm, and wow, this scent needs warmth to develop on my skin.

It is indeed gorgeous. Soft. I now smell a salty musky vanilla, sandalwood, some very soft and subtle spices.

Beautiful. The scent is not a heavy hitter, though, it is a skin scent, which is even better.

    Perfection.

  11. Mmmmmmmmm this is niiiiice... Spicy soft, sweet, warm, deep, this stuff just glows and smolders non stop. I love it. A winner. :D

EDIT: I'm happy to report that I have found my bpal sig! The more I wear this stuff, the more I love it. I need a new bottle. :wub2:

It is actually getting harder and harder to describe this scent, as it gets more and more personal with each wearing. Suffice to say that it is a perfect blend of spiciness against powdery softness, a little sweet but just right, not too much, wonderful veil-like musk.

This one has all I want, nothing I don't.

  12. So, here's a question for the wiser masses - I'm a lover of sensuals and unusuals. The fellow I'm into at present is a straight-laced, good old Southern boy. What scent or scents would you recommend to get the attention of a mainstream fellow's nose and make him sit up and say "wow, you smell amazing, what is that?", while not sacrificing a passionate, artistic sort's own personal preferences? Are there any sexy, sensual, fabulous, AND appealing-to-the-masses scents in the lab?

Hunger. Beautiful and sexy, floral/yummy. This stuff rocks.

  13. There HAS to be some civet in this. The depth, the warmth, the oomph are characteristic in a way that differs from musk alone. It's naughty goodness writhing in a bed full of honeyed amber. My guy has been sniffing me all day and commenting very positively. Another bpal favorite. :wub2:

  14. It started out smelling like thick milk chocolate and oranges. After a while, a very slight note of rose started to appear. And then, the baby powder.

What an odd, bizarre scent: Not at all what I expected, rather simplistic, yet I like it but I can't tell why.

Oh, and the lasting power is out of this world: I put one dab on the back of my hand last night around 10, and 11 hours later, it's still going strong.

I will have to retest several times in the future because for the life of me I cannot figure out Jezebel.

  15. Maybe Lolita is one of those scents that require aging? Hmmm. Will try again at a later time. Today's testing is disappointing.

    In the bottle: Cheap shampoo.

Wet on skin: Softens a little, the honeysuckle is emerging.

Drying: The lemon verbena is arriving full strength.

Drydown: The orange blossom is desperately trying to hold its own but is beaten down by the cheap shampoo note. The heliotrope never appeared. The scent is softer now, a bit soapy, a bit plasticky... Not great.

Will test again in a few weeks.

  16. I looooove this one. I can't really make out the notes separately, everything is blended smoothly and seamlessly on my skin. It's soft, pretty, sensual, floral, yummy, just plain good. :wub2:

ETA: My goodness. I kept it on all night, all morning, stayed in bed with my Honey, it is now 2:15 pm and I can still smell it, AWESOME!!!

My guy loves it, btw. He says it's impossible to describe, but very, very pleasant. A nuzzler.

  17. Ooooh, I love this one.

It starts out musky spicy but soft. The civet is very subtle on me, only gives depth and warmth. The scent eventually dries down powdery/musky, with a clear your-skin-but-better vibe. I'm surprised, I expected something a lot dirtier, but this is warm, deep and sensual, and oddly enough, clean.

    A winner. :wub2:

  18. I must admit that upon smelling it in the bottle, I was afraid to try it.

But I'm glad I did!!! :joy:

In the bottle: Robitussin on steroids.

Wet on skin: Robitussin on Valium + a ghost like appearance of honey

Dry down: Cherries, honey, clove, musk and something slightly metallic, reminiscent of fresh blood. Also a very subtle aura of powder somewhere in the base.

This is quite pleasant and beautiful, in the end. It's dark, unusual, narcotic, syrupy-thick in a good way. Eerie and beguiling at once. If the lasting power holds, this is definitely a keeper.
