  1. This is the hair gloss of my dreams! :wub3:

I've always wanted a hair gloss in the same vein as Pink Snowballs or Hope. Each year, I would wait for the Yules to release to see if this was the year my wish would be granted. Well, with the return of the CD and the launch of the CD hair glosses, my wish has finally been granted. And even better, it's not as short lived as the seasonal collections.

This is it! A sugared vanilla rose. Plain and simple but stunning. I immediately bought a backup bottle. The cognac does not make this boozy, just adds some depth to the rose and vanilla. I think that's the sugared aspect I'm getting. And I don't detect anything metallic so don't be concerned about that. If you've always wanted a vanilla rose hair gloss, get some stat! It's beautiful.

I hope this sticks around forever. Thanks Puddin! :wub2:

  2. Fear of Blood

Crimson splatter, pulsating with blackened vetiver.

On wet, I get red skin musk and almost a red wine note. The vetiver is not in your face at all. Just adds a subtle suggestion of smoke.

I feel like this isn't straight up red musk but as it dries down, the muskiness comes out more. Almost goes a little powdery sweet but I don't mind that.

I feel like maybe there is orris in this? Or at least something that does things similar to orris on me. That actually could be the vetiver now that I think of it. If so, than this vetiver is reminding me a lot of orris.

All in all, a sweet earthy red skin musk. That's my impression.

ETA - this reminds me a lot of blood pearl without the coconut

  3. This one was totally interesting. I love lime and I love plum. How would this translate though? Had to get a decant to find out.

In the imp, this smells like ground up sweet tarts. Totally candy.

When freshly applied, I get a blast of mint and lime. It's a little bit of an odd combo. Fresh and sweet. As it dries down, the plum starts to emerge. If you are a fan of plum, this doesn't disappoint. The top notes of the lime and sweet tarts blend in seamlessly with the plum. The mint pretty much disappears as the scent wears.

After a while it becomes sweet fruity plum with a dusting of sweet tarts. Simple but not a disappointment. May need to purchase a bottle to add to my plum scent library.

  4. Black tea, myrrh, smoked vanilla, and licorice root.

First review! I love this scent. It's basically licorice Dorian atmo spray. The licorice and myrrh come out at first but then as the scent dries down and wears so to speak, you get the tea and vanilla more. It's so comforting. I like to spray my atmos on scarves, sweatshirts, etc. I will be purchasing a backup bottle.

  5. As a self professed lover of all dirt scents, I had to give this one a try. I really had no idea how the beeswax note would fit in with this so I went with just a decant but wow, these notes just blend together wonderfully. I smell wet somewhat fresh soil, with hints of ivy and moss. Like your laying on the ground in a forest surrounded by pine trees and cypress. The pine is not dominant but it's there if I search for it. And the beeswax just adds this warmth and sweetness to the blend and keeps it interesting.

I find this scent so relaxing. I'm definitely getting a bottle.

  6. What better day to test this than today  This was all WHOA patchouli when I first put it on. I was actually scared to try it and only put it on my arms. After the first 1-2 hours the patchouli does calm down though and now I'm getting much more of the other notes coming through (mainly honeyed amber oudh and vanilla) with the patch supporting it in the background. There is a turkish delight feel to it, but the patch note keeps it from being foody.

  7. And now that they rise and walk in the cold,
Let us warm their blood and give youth to the old.
Let them see us and hear us, and say: "Ah, thus
In the prime of the year it went with us!"
Till their lips drawn close, and so long unkist,
Forget they are mist that mingles with mist!
For the year's on the turn, and it's All Souls' night,
When the dead can burn and the dead can smite.

Bruised violets chilled by eucalyptus blossom, ice musk, and black cypress tar.

Skin testing this one today. The eucalyptus is not whoa eucalyptus at all in this so have no fear if eucalyptus is not your thing. It is still present but this is a softer more floral eucalyptus. At first I get a lot of the cypress and eucalyptus. The ice musk adds almost a slightly fresh/powdery element to it. Just makes it smell clean. It's not minty. The violet comes out more in the dry down and it's more of an herbal flowery violet. Oh, this is really pretty. Once it dries down, if I think about it, I really can smell all the components with probably the violet at the forefront. Throw seems to be medium (but I only applied to my arms to test). I usually also apply on my chest so I think that could kick things up a bit. Truly a winner. If you are a violet fan, I do not think you will be disappointed by this.

The throw seems to increase with wear time. This is a gorgeous violet blend. Almost a little foresty in the background. I'm loving this.

  8. If anyone is looking for something that's like Hope and Faith all at once (or at least how I imagine them to smell, since I have a bottle with supply issues in my order with the Twins... going to be waiting for a while to test those), Wanda had a very interesting drydown on me. She started as sweet white tea with rose petals and ended as a lovely, floral violet grounded by leather and wine. And since Wanda is GC, well! :D

My testing notes say to watch out for headaches (the wine, for me) and that it had pretty decent throw.

I personally didn't care for Wanda. I don't like Whip either. But I love Faith and Hope.

  9. Just realized I haven't reviewed this. I'm kind of a slacker with official reviews though. But oh my....Dorian hair gloss. Dorian is one of my top 5 bpals (possibly my number 1). I hesitated on getting this thinking "well I already have the perfume oil, do I really need the gloss?" But oh was I wrong...this hair gloss is amazing stuff. The scent lasts and it's so lovely to be surrounded by a cloud of Dorian. I've gone through 2/3 of my first bottle in less than 6 months and recently purchased a back up as I don't want to imagine ever running out of this one. If you love Dorian, get yourself a bottle of this one stat!

  10. Stupid newb question.......... when you decant your BPAL into roller balls, do you add carrier oil?

I'd assume no. Unless the oil is giving you a skin reaction or maybe the scent is too strong for you, then it might be helpful. Otherwise, you can apply these directly from the bottle so there is no need to dilute.

  11. Oh dear- Zombie Moon I wanted to love you, but you are making me gag. :ugh: I sprayed some in a spot near where I am sitting, and it is URINAL CAKE MOON! An hour later, I gave up and tried to cover the smell with something else that I thought would be strong enough to work, The Demon's School, and Zombie Moon Urinal Cake is bleeding through. Major fail, this one. :cry2: Please fade away soon!

Sadly, I tend to side with the reviewer above on this one. In the bottle, it smelled really sweet and promising. But when I sprayed it, after a few minutes, it just turned into cheap car air freshener. The scent has incredible lasting power as one spray hung around my kitchen for a whole day. Fortunately, it was warm out at the time and I was able to leave the windows open overnight to air things out. Not a fan of this one myself, but glad to see it's working for others.

  12. Just put a dab on and wow, I love this one. It's anise and tangerines/oranges. The anise kind of lends a spice to the orange. The orange and tangerine is just so bright and happy. Smells like delicious candy. After a few minutes, the lavender starts to pop out a bit in the background. The whole thing blends together seamlessly. So happy I sprung for a bottle on this one

This just keeps getting more fantastic the longer I wear it. Now it's like a candied anise on me. I think I'm gonna need to grab a backup bottle of this one. I also wish I could get this as an atmo so I could spray all the things with it!

  13. I picked up a small decant of this one on a whim and ooo, it's nice. Definitely woodish, but there's almost something spicy going on with it too? There's no notes for this one so I don't know for sure but... I think there might be some dirt in here... or at the least there's some sort of very fresh earthiness to this one but yet it smells old at the same time. Will revisit once I've had some more time with my sample, but I think I might need a bottle of this one.

  14. Thanks for the input, recklessly! My favorite thing about this is there are a lot of scents here I want to try too so now I am allowed to have somewhat of an ulterior motive haha.

Satyr, Paladin, Rogue, and Scherezade have all been on my radar for a while and I can easily grab an imp of the last three when funds allow. Morocco, Lyonesse, Sherlock, John Watson, and Fighter are all imps I have hiding somewhere so I'll drag them out for some slathering.

Antikythera Mech went odd on me, but I'll test it on him to see if it smells better. If it does, I can finally get rid of this imp I've been trying to make myself like because everyone else likes it so much.

Good point about the skin testing, elbow. I like the way you think. ;)

I'm not at all familiar with Anteros and Desire so I'll have to write them down to look into for sure. I do have RR, Mars Ultor, Snake Charmer, and Womb Furie. I forgot all about Womb Furie actually! So those are all good potentials. I might even have Sassafras lying around somewhere too. Hm...I have so many imps sometimes I lose track. I'm sure you know the feeling. :P

Thank you both! These are all great places to start!

Czernobog is another great one. I also happen to like Chaotic from the RPG line.

  15. I'm a dirt lover. Anything the lab does with dirt/soil as a note I have to at least try.

If you like rose, you have to try Zombi which is a GC from the lab. It's got that freshly turned soil note with the roses mixing in. Askalaphos was a Weenie that came out a few years back that is dirt and pomegranate, heavier on the dirt for me. Graveyard Dirt if you can find it (maybe look on the lab's etsy as well, I know I've seen a bottle pop up on there from time to time) is another good one since it's more of a pure dirt. Good for layering. I hope the lab releases another dirt blend for this Halloween. Hallowe'en 1914 was dirt mixed with ivy last year. Really pretty as well.

  16. I used to hate hate hate all the dead leaf scents, but thanks to Beth's magical powers I am now a huge fan. Deaths Second Self though admittedly a Yule is my favorite in my personal leaf pile

Halloween 1914 is pretty autumnal. For me personally though Vampire Queen reminds me of fall, it's my one no hesitation Weenie and I have a bunch of back ups of various years

I love Death's Second Self. I'm hoarding the imp of it that I have. It definitely screams fall to me as well.

  17. I never thought I'd be a fan of beeswax, but I love Theme in Yellow from the Weenies a couple years back. That one doesn't list beeswax as a note, but I swear it's in there as part of the "candlelight".

Chanukkiyah from the Yules is another favorite of mine. I hope it returns this year as I need to grab a bottle.

  18. Wow, I really love this. And to think, a scent with jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower (three notes I'd usually shy away from) could be so awesome on me. I don't really get much of those notes on me though. This is all olive blossom, honey, smokey vanilla, and cinnamon. The other notes just stay in the background. This is like eating a cinnamon donut in a room that has the most delicious incense burning in the background. I think I found a new go to fall scent!

  19. Thank you everyone for the recommendations, everything sounds so good! I'm only wary of things with rose because even the most subtle rose can make my stomach turn, but after so many glowing recommendations for Alice and a love of carnation I may have to try it out, it could be the rose to change my mind!

I'm currently hunting the sales list for these others on you folks' recommendation: 21, Dana O'Shee, Black Pearl, Snake Oil (how could I not?), Against Idleness and Mischief, Blood Kiss, O, Goblin, Faith, Beaver Moon '10, Detestable Putrescence, Eat Me, Womb Furie (this sounds especially good!), Hollywood Babylon (I love the combo of cherry and strawberry together!), Bon Vivant, Good, Crib Girls, Kill-Devil, Light of Men's Lives, Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo, Juke Joint, Morocco, Wings of Azrael, Miskatonic University, Bengal, Bard, Thieves Rosin, Ivory Vulva (I told my grandma I was looking at getting a bottle of this and she laughed and laughed, plus I love coconut so this is perfect for me!), Herr Drosselmeyer, and Bien Loin D'ici!

I'm really excited to try these out, time to start shopping! :)

The rose is barely noticeable in Alice on me. I get mainly carnation, milk, and honey. And you can get an imp of it straight from the lab instead of having to go for a bottle blind.
