    Dorian

I'm finding that I really do go for the more gender neutral fragrances. I LOVE Dorian. With all the imps in my imp tin and my 5mls for the past two weeks I just keep coming back to Dorian. When I need a pick me up - Dorian. It's clean and sweet and slightly musky. It's like the scent of skin dipped in vanilla sugar. I want to share this fragrance with everyone I know. It's one of those scents that you feel like if everyone wore it the world would be a happier, more beautiful place. Dreamy Sigh.

    O

I may need to try this one again, straight oil as my little sample has been diluted. It doesn't seem to be working on me though and I'm starting to wonder if I just don't like amber. There is a certain "dry" factor to several fragrances I've tried. It tickles my nose and then takes my breath away, burning my throat ever so slightly. Upon drydown the dryness seems to get even stronger. Several times I've found myself layering lotion over my fairly recently imped wrists. I lasted about 2 hours with "O" and kept hoping it would meld into something delicious on me. The overwhelming sweetness and dry factor of the scent finally reached the point where I had to wash it off. It always seems like the fragrances everyone else adores don't work on me. I need to sniff someone who "O" works on and see what I think then. I need a BPAL buddy I can acutally slather and sniff.

    White Rabbit

I'll probably test this one again, on another day and hope for a better result. As of now It smells like curdled peach milk on my skin. A bit like baby puke, from a nursing baby. I'm disappointed because I loved the sound of this, and adore tea fragrances. At first sniff the pepper appealed to me too and I was anticipating the various changes on my skin. After ten minutes I had to wash it off.

    Tum

I'm not getting any grape. Wet: Bayberry and cloves Dry: Cloves, overwhelming cloves and a hint of pine/bayberry. Not a me fragrance at all. I didn't even try it on except the dab that got on my thumb when I opened the imp to sniff it. It doesn't smell like any version of the sun I experience. To me it's earthy, brown and dark green. There are no brilliant oranges, or pinks or even the slivers of purple and blue you see as the sun is setting. It might make a good christmas potporri fragrance but it's not something I'd wear. Off to swaps.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

I'd be interested too when all the bugs are worked out.

    Arachne

My nose doesn't seem to agree with most the other reviews or the description. I get cherries and incense. Not really what I'd consider a floral, and certainly not light on me. It reminds me of independent music stores, long flowy skirts and sitar music. It's not a “me” fragrance but overall I like it.

    Wilde

A sophisticated traditional gentleman's cologne, with just the slightest taint of patchouli's passion, tonka bean's decadence, the philanthropy of bergamot, moss' cynicism, the sharp wit of lavender, and the hopeless romantic longing of jasmine and thyme. I ordered this for my boy, I like the name and it sounded delicious. But of course I had to try it on before I handed it off. The second I swiped my wrists I was in love. This is the first blend that has had Jasmine in it that I've liked it all, it wasn't until rereading the description for about the tenth time that I even realized it had Jasmine in it. It's very clean smelling, with the tang of citrus and something smoky underneath. It's the sort of scent you want to smell when cuddled up on the couch, stick your nose in the crook of his neck and leave it there scent. I dig it.

    Muse

When I got my Imps in the mail from this order I sniffed them all and put the ones I didn't think I'd end up liking in a pile. Of those I re-read the descriptions to see what drew me to them, and what I thought I'd like about them. In three I found a common element - Jasmine. I sampled Suspiro and Eos and sent them to the swap pile Muse was my last hope for the Jasmine blends. I was really hoping to like this one, the lime and the tuberose which is one of my favorite floral scents. I keep ordering things because of the tuberose but none of them have worked for me. I'm going to give this one another shot. I put it on about six hours after the Suspiro so it hasn't had a full chance. There is still something about it that just doesn't agree with my nose. Of the three this is the one that I like the best. I tried it again and while I probably would have loved it before smelling dozons of other BPAL fragrances I don't think it's a keeper for me. I'm temped to keep the imp anyway.

    Eos

When I got my Imps in the mail from this order I sniffed them all and put the ones I didn't think I'd end up liking in a pile. Of those I re-read the descriptions to see what drew me to them, and what I thought I'd like about them. In three (Suspiro, Eos, Muse) I found a common element - Jasmine. It's softer and possibly creamier than the Suspiro. I think that the all floral fragrances are just not "me" I need something younger and more fruity. It's okay, it reminds me of something you could buy at a department store. On someone else I think I might actually like it. It's lighter and not as in your face as some florals which I'm discovering I don't like as much as I thought I did.

    Suspiro

When I got my Imps in the mail from this order I sniffed them all and put the ones I didn't think I'd end up liking in a pile. Of those I re-read the descriptions to see what drew me to them, and what I thought I'd like about them. In three I found a common element - Jasmine. At first I denied it, I love Jasmine, Jasmine tea, Jasmine rice... mmm. But somehow in a perfume it just doesn't draw me in. After I tried it on, do not like it at all. I wanted to wash it off right away but I decided to see if it grew on me or if the white plum scent eventually came out more. It just smelled icky, and sort of gave me a stomach ache. There is this very green floral element that I just don't like. It did not grow on me, I ended up putting lotion on over it - with the lotion on top my mom said it smelled "clean". I think she is going to try some of the ones I really don't like and see if they work for her. Okay so I don't like it. But in the scheme of things this is a good discovery. It means I can make a more educated choice when I order, and I get to try new scents and discover what I really like.

    Yggdrasil

I got this as a freebie with an order. After the first sniff I put it in the swap pile, I just didn't think it was me. It's been a few weeks and this one stuck around so I reread the reviews and decided to give it another shot. I put it on right before bed and kept sniffing my wrists, I could now smell what everyone else was talking about. Forests, damp tree bark, earth. But there was something familiar about it in an entirely different way. A peppery sweetness that I couldn't pinpoint. Finally it hit me. I had these pickle scented scratch and sniff stickers that didn't smell anything at all like pickles, but Yggdrasil reminds me of the scent. It's still not a "Me" scent, but overall I really like it. I think it's the sort of scent that I wish I could wear, like I wish I could wear clothes from good will and second hand stores but somehow I look better in black sweaters and tailored pants. That's why I love BPAL so much, such a variety of fragrances - there really is something for everyone.

    New Orleans

I wanted to love this one. I love honeysuckle, or at least I thought I did but no blends with honeysuckle from the lab have worked for me. I think I'm finding out that I'm much less of a floral person than I once believed. This one went into the sale/swap pile and I hope someone else will fully appreciate it.

    Juke Joint

I wasn't really expecting to like this one. I don't smell the alcohol aspect very much, I smell mint and powder. But it's powder with a tang. I wore it out to dinner a month or so ago and my grandmother commented on it. If this is what a Mint Julep tastes like, I'll have to order one sometime. This isn't an every day fragrance for me, nor an mmmm I smell sooo good I want to gobble myself up fragrance, but I'll keep the imp for a change now and again.

    Neo-Tokyo

I was really hoping I'd like this one and I'm so so happy that I not only like it, I love it. I spent five years in Japan and placing my second BPAL order Tokyo and Kyoto were two top choices. First Sniff - Mmm clean, it's almost soapy but not a bad soap scent. The sort of clean soap scent when you first step out of the shower and everything in the world feels better than before you stepped in. I think I smell the bamboo, but it isn't extremely green - it's more of a damp bamboo, young stalks of bamboo in the middle of rainyseason. On- Still clean. Slightly more rich, several other elements are coming out now. But there is no sweetness, it's all crisp and clean I still don't smell any cherry blossom or orchid. Overall - I love it, I still wish that it had a slightly sweeter undertone, the pinkness of cherry blossoms on a spring day but it's still moved into second place for me. ETA: I also think this would be an excellent uni-sex scent. I'm finding that I lean more toward those.

    The Hesperides

My first reaction to opening the imp was, "Is this one of the imps I just ordered?" it was only about half full - well below the lable. I don't know if it leaked or what, but that alone was disappointing. First sniff - sour, almost like apples that have started to ferment. But I thought I'd try it on my skin. Wet, still sour with a little more cinammon/caramel in the background. Dry - bam there is the apple. But it's not the apple I was hoping for. It reminds me of apple potporri. Half hour in - I want to wash it off. I don't even want to wait too see what happens with a little more time, it's giving me a stomach ache. I'll probably end up swapping this one, or seeing if it works for my mom.

    Hunger

I really didn't think I'd like this one when I smelled it from the vial but I decided to give it a try. Wet I still didn't like it and put it in the sell/swap pile. After half an hour I started to change my mind, I started to like the creamyness. I wasn't getting vanilla or orange but after sniffing my wrist twenty or so times I can see where those comparisons came from. For me it's creamy and slightly powdery with a coco butter scent. There are hints of floral and orange but they are very subtle. I've decided to keep the imp for those ocassions I want to smell edible.
