  1. Wow. This is gorgeous!

Straight out of the box, this is smokey myrrh, rich benzoin and black musk.

Dries down to an awesome spicy combo of the myrrh, chili and musk with an underlying base of rich vanilla.

I have absolutely nothing in my collection like this, and this will be gorgeous this fall. A standout winner.

  2. Fact of life- Orchid loves me, and I love orchid.

This blend is no exception to this rule.

This is lush orchids with a beautiful musky base. Slightly sweet, luminous and rich. I can detect oakmoss, but the star player is the orchids on me. Sophisticated, heady, womanly and hypnotic.

Great Vampire Bat remains my favorite blend, but this little beauty is hot on its heals.

Much love and gratitude to my fairy for the pickup!

  3. okay- i'm trying to find something, ANYTHING that smells like Encens Mystic by Crazylibellule and the Poppies (which seems to have gone under). another signature scent of mine bites the dust. sigh. simply, it smells like a midnight mass in france. but here are the notes:

    Top Notes

    Clove, Cedar

    Middle Notes

    Incense, Myrrh, Benzoin

    Base Notes

    Patchouli, Vanilla, Musk

does anyone know the scent and have a similar alternative?

Have you checked EBay? I have found many discontinued perfumes and cosmetics on there...

  4. Very similar to Midway Res to my nose. Salty blast of popcorn initially that settles into a creamy sugary cotton candy scent with the underlining scent of fried pastries. I didn't get into BPAL until after Midway was released and always wished I could have gotten a bottle. Mouse Circus will amply fill the bill! This is wonderful.

  5. On me, this smells like the love child of Black Butterfly Moon and Lady McBeth. Deep purple, moody, dark, lovely orchid with an almost wine note. (Guess that's the pear and blue musk?)

Lovely, brooding, sweet, and haunting. Another orchid win for me.

  6. Heady is right....

This is a deep smokey orchid, rich and almost slightly cinnamon like in the depth of it. The orchid is outstanding, like being in a dark gypsy tent while the incense wafts around you and you gaze tranfixed as the fire light illuminates a lush bouquet of dark colored exotic orchids.

    LOVE.

  7. This is nearly a dead on ringer for Ghoulish on my skin. Subtle difference being a slight spiciness to Ghoulish whereas this is slightly creamy. None of the Rozolj liqure that I was curious about. I have 3 bottles of Ghoulish so no need to hunt down a bottle for me.

  8. I agree that Black Moon '11 is a spectacular orchid blend, probably my favorite! You mentioned looking for a smoky earthy orchid, and that describes how Black Moon is on my skin to a T.

Other deep, dark orchid blends I like include:

    Lunar Eclipse

Red musk, black currant, violet leaf, wild frankincense, lavender, black orchid, Darjeeling tea, vetiver, red moss, myrrh, Moroccan spices, blackened fruit gums, and tobacco.

    Lamia

Deadly elegance: pale orchid, vanilla amber, black currant, white peach, champaca, coconut, Arabian myrrh, Burmese vetiver, and oude.

(I see you already know about this blend - but yeah, it's awesome!)

I haven't tried the following two (they are discontinued) but if you can track some down it seems like they are in the same vein:

    Shadow Witch Orchid

Orchid tubers have been used extensively by witches in their love philtres, both to promote amorous attention and the attainment of true love, and, conversely, to wither misplaced passions and sever romantic bonds. This perfume is a dusky orchid, subdued and ethereal.

    Black Dahlia

Voluptuous magnolias strewn over orchid, star jasmine, black amber and smoky rose.

I am so regretting that Shadow Witch Orchid is discontinued. :( more for my ISO I guess.

  9. Looking through the search engine I have narrowed it down to wanting to try Black Butterfly Moon, Medea, Queen Mab, Lamia, and Ile de la Tortue. I really want the smokey/earthy/orchid combo. Lady in a speckled pink kimono sounds too sweet and pink, Manhattan has lemon and tea, both doom notes for my skin. :( perhaps when the etsy site hits the 'B' section black orchid will be among them. As for Le petite Morte, I have it, but it reads more powder then anything on me. Ahhhh.... the tragedy of falling in love with a super rare (GVB). Truly is a gorgeous scent. But thank you lovely ladies for your suggestions!

  10. Hey all, I recently fell in love with Great Vampire Bat and have decided that orchids is a floral note that I am obsessed with. Anyone with good recommendations of blends where the orchids take center stage? I love the sound of Black Butterfly Moon, since I am looking for the 'dark' orchid blends, but any other not-to-be-missed ones out there? I looked to see if a thread had been started on this lovely floral but I didn't see one. If I was wrong, feel free to merge mods! Thanks so much!

  11. Thanks and praise to me generous fairy!

In the bottle: deep chocolate. *drool*

Wet on skin: deep chocolate and patchulli, rounded out with what I believe is the mahogany and teak. *love*

Dry: the chocolate is blending with the earthier notes to create a smooth rich almost coffee like scent. The musks are coming out, and I definitely detect black musk as one of the two. The other I am guessing must be a brown musk. Can't really detect the sasparilla but this is so rich and lovely. Along the same lines as Arabian Dance or Dark Chocolate Whiskey Cognac in that respect. Will no doubt age to magnificence.

Another bat for the win! This is going to be gorgeous in the fall!

  12. Again, thanks to my fairy!

In the bottle: bright ginger, lime, and something softly creamy.

Wet on skin: fizzy lime with a melted creamsicle. Yum.

Dry: gingery creamsicle, the lime taking a back seat. Tremendous throw on me for the first 2 hours, then it calms way down. The the result is a rich slightly spicy creamy scent. Don't get much of the fig, but the fresh ginger scent is present.

This is the first 'cream' tone BPAL that I have tried, and its really quite pretty. The earlier part of the wearing reads 'summer' to me, the late dry down fall/winter. This is definitely a keeper.

Edit: so cream decided not to play nice with me, the second testing made me nausous to the point of a headache. This blend is going to be going to its new home soon of someone who loves it.
