    Bewitched

I've been wanting to try this for awhile as a friend recommended it as a fruity berry scent and I'm on a fruit kick recently. In the imp, it's berries and something green. Wet, on me: Playdough? Took a bigger sniff: Berry Playdough?? Closely followed by an overwhelming surge of greenery that gave me a short lasting sinus headache (only about five minutes) - and I'm only wearing this on one wrist. Now it's settling down into a subtley floral fruit scent. Not bad at all, but not something I'll reach for too often.

    The Candy Butcher 2006

I've tried this a couple times but I'm finally getting around to reviewing it. In the imp and wet, it's a dark dark chocolate. Once it starts drying, the creaminess comes out. At first it's perfect, but then the cream goes bad on me. I kept sniffing the air going "what went sour?" and then I realized it was me. Off to the swap pile for this one.

    Orpheus

In the imp, this smells like green florals - kind of like the back end of a floral case where the buckets of greens are kept - it's clean, strong scents of green, with florals wafting through. Wet, on my skin: Headache inducing lavender, with greens in the background. Lavender just doesn't play well on my skin, and this blend is no exception.

    Vixen

This was a frimp in my last lab order so I tried it on today without even knowing the scent description. Wet, it was very woody and earthy, with wafts of vanilla. There's no mention of vanilla in the description, and my skin usually eats vanilla, so I go hunting for a description and get it into my head that I'm wearing Velvet. There is a tiny hint of chocolate in there, which added to the confusion. Something is toning down the patchouli, the ginger maybe? (I think this is my first blend with ginger). It's also a bit tingly, on and off in places where I've applied it, so I'll keep an eye out to see if I get some sort of reaction to it. Overall, this is a very slinky, sexy scent. I will have to see what my husband thinks of it when he comes home from work soon.

    Temple of Dreams

In the imp, this is all rosemary. Wet, the basil dances about with the rosemary. As it settles, something else comes out, making the overall scent a bit less than pleasant. So, two nights ago I had very strange dreams without the use of anything, so last night I wore Temple of Dreams to sleep to see what would happen. The point where the scent got a lil bit less than pleasant is when things started getting a little surreal. I vividly "remember" having trouble falling asleep last night - but if I just think about it, then the "falling asleep" almost seems like times when I just rolled over or got elbowed by my husband for talking in my sleep or something.. I'm not sure if I did have trouble falling asleep or not now. Every morning I have the joy of waking up to my husband's alarm and then essentially kicking him out of bed. It went off today, and apparently I was just a step ahead of sleepwalking because my husband was concerned that I wouldn't get up in time for the electricians to come. I actually got up with plenty of time, but I couldn't shake a groggy feeling until I was able to take a nap. When I was awoken by the electricians coming back I was all shaky and dizzy, but once that past I was fine - no grogginess. I'll use it again tonight and edit tomorrow if anything interesting happens.. I don't have to wake up early so I shouldn't have the groggy thing going on (unless it's allergy related, and then I might). I don't know if this is full bottle material, but it is a most interesting imp. I shall have fun experimenting.

    Bliss

A shot of pure, self-indulgent euphoria! A scent that is very, very wicked in its own way: the serotonin-slathered scent of pure milk chocolate. I have wanted to try Bliss since I first discovered Bpal, and I only just tried it today (and only because I got someone else an enabling imp pack with it - I was bad and put a teeny drop on the back of my hand). That teeny drop was put on about six hours ago, and my entire left hand smells like brownie heaven still. It's a wonderful, true chocolate scent. A bottle of this will be in my next Lab order - and it'll be all for me.

Bridal BPAL - BPAL for weddings?

I had two weddings (due to military schtuff and the fact that his family is in CO and TX and mine is all in NJ), and I wore Pink Phoenix for both. I looooove pink, and pink was the accent color for the CO wedding (which was the first one). I'm not a fan of florals (I've spend too much time in a floral case working with flowers to want to smell like flowers) and a lot of my other favorites were things with names that were borderline acceptable (you smell nice! what are you wearing? Blood Kiss! - yeah, I think not). For the second wedding, my bridesmaids were all "no pink!" so the chocolate brown dresses were a hit.. but no one knows I wore something called Pink Phoenix.. hehe!

    Midwinter's Eve

I haven't reviewed this and I've been loving my bottle for over a year now! Bad me! My scent preferences have changed a bit over the last year, and I remember not wearing this much when it was new. I don't know if it was the change of my preferences or the aging of the oil, but I like it a lot!! better now. Wet, it's very sweet, playful berries. The sweet smell is very very sweet, but doesn't cross the line to the sticky sweet scents that I now avoid. As it dries, it settles into a more quiet, almost somber mix of berries and what is probably the plum. It still lingers close to the line of being too sticky, but stays just shy of it. It's a beautiful scent for a cold, rainy day like today.

    PURPLE!

It's so interesting how some of us see some scents as different colors. Lady Macbeth - new and aged - was always a deep deep red for me, and Samhain '05 was a rich brown to me. There's only one scent that asserted itself as purple to me - Numb. I remember in my review that I couldn't identify the floral in it, but that I new it was purple (others with better noses picked it out as violet).

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

I was dragged out of the house this evening (my original plan was to take a relaxing shower) so I grabbed something new to cover up my stinky self. In the imp, it's a light scent with stuff there that I couldn't identify.. I almost sniffed spices of some sort. Wet, it was just a funky combination of sweet and exotic things that I couldn't finger. The sweet and exotic phase lasted about 20 minutes or so, and then I was surrounded by a sea of honey.. not the stuff in the plastic bear bottle but a light, sweet, and not overpowering honey - which surprised me because honey usually goes the way of playdough on me. A while after that, it settled into a sweet, fresh, minty tea scent. There's still some element of something exotic that I can't place, but it's a really beautiful scent. I'm going to need a bottle of this one.

    Baobhan Sith

In the imp, this is a sparkly grapefruit with something light on the side. Wet, it's grapefruit with a dark, bitter edge - a deep sniff has an "aftersniff" of ginger to it. As it dries, it's morphing into grapefruit Pledge with a side of burnt ginger. I almost wish the apple blossom would take over like most all florals do to me. Although, having let it sit for a few more minutes, the pledge end of it is fading and it's taking away the burnt ginger. If it stays like this, we'll be okay. Not a bad scent, overall, just not one I'll be reaching for too often. edits: ugh ugh ugh it's going pledge-y again - I'm washing this sucker off x_x

    F5

My skin goes all wacky during the winter, so I tend to space showers out more than I should, and then cover up with perfume. Whereas Dirty went all floral on me, F5 is a bright, happy, clean scent with no soapiness anywhere. When I'm not stinky, I can pick out the tea and the lime and the mint. On me, it's a wonderful, perky, refreshing scent. This one is going into my summer perfume rotation for sure!

    Creepy

In the bottle, this is a perfect caramel apple. If only it stayed that way on my skin. The second the oil hit my skin, it went from a lovely caramel apple to all caramel. Now, I love the smell of caramel, but I don't want to smell like caramel. It's just too sticky sweet for me (I think it's also why Gluttony just didn't work for me).. apparently my skin likes to amp caramel as much as it does lavender.

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

I love the original 13, so I decided to give this one a try. In the bottle, it's a warm blend that I have trouble picking out of the notes of. Wet on me: Why, Hello Lavender! How nice of you to amp up and drown every other note out and give me a sinus headache within seconds of putting this on my wrists! After about 15-20 minutes, the sandalwood peeks out, and helps fuel the headache. It's not at all reminiscent of Underpants on me - I blame the lavender, which was a gamble I took when I ordered it (the other twelve components look good, maybe they'll drown out the lavender. Ha!). The lavender may indeed mellow over time, but I'm not sure it'll get the chance to.. I'll probably wash this off in a few minutes and apply Lick It to my temples to try to get rid of this headache. edit: I never got around to washing this off, and for a few minutes here and there in the hour or two I was awake I'd smell something other than lavender, but this morning all that's left on my wrists is lavender.

    The Jersey Devil

Another Jersey Girl here. My nose is all stuffy, so my note-sniffing abilities (what few I have) are a bit off. In the imp, there's a wonderful real pine forest scent. Wet on me, it's very piney for a few minutes, and then settles into wonderfully warm summer pine forest, with the tall pines overhead, and all the bushes and plants growing along the ground, and the clean air all around. I feel like I should have slept in my tent last night, and swim in the big lake at the Pine Barrens, and cook my dinner over a campfire tonight. And my stuffy nose even detects a whiff of deep woods Off. (which is the only thing, deep woods or not, that keeps those damn Jersey mosquitos from sucking all my blood). It's probably not there for anyone else tho. I think I'll have to pick up a bottle of this before I move to Italy, just so I can smell like home sometimes.

    Centzon Totochtin

I've loved the description of this scent since I was first enabled, and finally ordered an imp of this last month. In the imp, it's a warm chocolate with something darker underneath. Wet it was a very deep, very strong dark chocolate with a hint of booziness to it. As it dried, it went to flowers with a side of powdered dark chocolate. I could have tolerated that, but I get a headache everytime I sniff myself. No wine what-so-ever, which is sad. If I wasn't clearing out my unloved BPAL to make my upcoming move a bit easier, I'd probably keep this one, but I can't say I'd wear it often when there's other chocolate-y scents I love. Off to the sale pile.

    Dirty

In the imp, this was a clean and almost cold scent. On me, all I smelled was flowers. I can't tell any of them apart, but I noticed that other reviewers have sniffed plumeria and sweet pea, and both of those go overwhemingly flower-y on me, so it's not surprising that all I got were flowers and flowers and nothing else. It's a very pretty scent, but it's not my thing at all.

    Debauchery

After finding that vetiver, which smells bad on a lot of people, smells really good on me, I decided to try something with civet. Ignoring the fact that it itches like hell where I dabbed it on about a minute ago, it smells like cat pee. Blergh. Don't think I'll be attempting civet again.
  19. crazyredhead17

    Dracul

In the imp, this was quite an interesting blend. Wet, it was minty with a bit of woodsy-ness to it. As it dried, the mint pretty much went away and was drowned by all the pines and firs, with a side of tobacco. Apparently, in both the air and in perfume oil, the smell of tobacco gives me a wicked sinus headache. Blah.

    Belle Époque

In trying to get the top off my imp, I managed to get this all over my hand. In the bottle, I smell a whole lot of nothingness (which is apparently the vanilla, because everything vanilla registers as nothing to my dumn nose) with some sandalwood. Wet, I get a load of sandalwood, and as usual, my skin amps up the florals. It's a very pretty scent, but it's not very me. But I don't care for florals in general, as I work in the floral department of a garden center and smelling like flowers smells like work.

    Harvest Moon 2006

In the bottle I smell apple cider with a touch of something else that I can't put a finger on. Wet on me, it's all apples and some spices - the perfect apple cider. Too bad it didn't stay like that. Once it dries though, there's nothing appley left, and all I smell are dusty florals reminiscent of potpurri thats been sitting out too long. It's beautiful in the bottle and wet on me, but sadly my skin just doesn't seem to like it much. Off to the swap/sales with it.

    Storyville

I haven't tried most of the scents everyone else is comparing this too, so I will muddle through the notes as best I can. Wet on me, I can smell a deep chocolatey and nuttiness, with something sweet and resinous in the background, with a teeny bit of ginger. As it dries, something else comes out - maybe the smoke/tobacco? All I know is that it gives me a sinus headache. Once it's dry, it's a wonderful creaminess (the vanilla probably) with something deeper and trickier behind it (possibly a musk?) - Sweet and innocent up front, and sort of a knowing and overseeing in the background. I like this, but I don't know how often I'd reach for it, which is just as well as I only have a sniffie.

    Sudha Segara

Oh, how I am glad that the honey in this didn't go playdough on me. Although, it didn't really go anything on me. It smells wonderful in the imp, but on me it just vanishes into a faint creaminess that's kinda boring. Ah well, they can't all be winners.

    Lady MacBeth

One of the first BPAL scents I ever tried was Lady Macbeth, and it must have been aged or an older formulation because when I got my first bottle of Lady Macbeth almost a year ago they did not smell remotely the same. The imp, if I remember correctly, was a bright berry scent laced with a deep red wine. I can't recall my initial impressions of my bottle, only that it was quite different. Today, trying on from the bottle again, I get all berry sweetness and no wine - and it's fading fast. I am sad, because 2/2 Macbeth themed scents have not worked out well for this Macbeth freak, but my loss will be someone else's gain, I'm sure.

    Drink Me

In the imp, it was all caramel. Wet, it was caramel and cream and a hint of fruitiness. As it's been drying, it's gone from the caramel and cream to toast to pineapple and cherry playtime to the cherry trying to take over causing the pineapple to neutralize the enemy and settled into a warm, gooey cake with some cream and pineapples, but no cherries. And no turkey. It's like Beaver Moon or one of the Monsterbaits, without the expensive price tag. I'll probably be getting a 5ml of this one (hafta make space in the bpal box first tho).
