    The Grave-Pig

Wow. Strong fig. Mmmm....earthy scent, lovely oakmoss and.......hey, there's that fig again..... Sniffing later on, I get.....FIG....and some nice dark lovely scents and .....FIG........ Sigh. I tried Intrigue and got hit with the Big Fig which overpowered the dark notes underneath. And this is similar to Intrigue only in that my skin amps up the FIG to 11. If fig is a good note for you, by all means, this is a wonderfully interesting scent and you should try it. But fig just feels wrong on me. I'd love this on a woman, I think. Not for me, perhaps for thee (if you like fig, in case I wasn't being clear enough)

    Sloth

Vetiver and Myrrh. And why not? It's a lovely scent. However, those two components are featured in both Czernobog (mentioned above) and Rumpelstilchzen, which are two of my three "signature" scents (the third being Iago, which laces vetiver in musk and leather). And truth be told, the vetiver/myrrh combo, while appealing, is not lovely a mix as Czernobog (musks surrounding) or Rumpelstilzchen (smoke/ash and burnt spices contributing). I do like Sloth, I'll keep the imp around. When I'm too lazy to reach for my favorites.

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

.....and of course that happens to be my favorite. But I'm more a bastard *with* a bottle.....sometimes... Nosferatu and Perversion have been mentioned as weird, and I have to concur. Nosferatu smells *exactly* as advertised.....dank crypt, traces of red wine lying around. I tested it at home on one of my work-from-home days and it creeped me out. Perversion smells soooooo skanky on me. Pretty post-coital -- or even coital. Or porn store. It's just *really* unsettling. To the above, I'd add Yorick. Also smells as advertised -- overturned earth and decaying bones. Merciful heavens, it's evocative. The three above have one quality in common -- I think they're fascinating in their own olfactory splendor, but I have no idea when or where I would actually wear them...... (I thought about wearing Perversion when going out to see some Performance Art on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, but I chickened out and put on Iago instead) ETA: Yes, Twenty-One is saved for special dress-up times, like when I'm dressed as in my avatar pic

    The Coil

I mourn the passing of this scent. I wear so many dark scents and this just popped off my skin, electric and full of bright colors. It was a favorite but I wasn't yet in bottlecollecting mode and missed my chance. I hope the Lab reformulates this and reintroduces it. I'd want this around.

    Glukuprikos

I was generously gifted a bottle of this at a recent meet and sniff. I finally tested it today. My first reaction was, yup, just like the reviewers said, soap. But I smelled again -- it wasn't just soap, it was soap on someone's body. It smelled, not like soap in a dish, but like a warm body fresh from the shower, redolent of soap but glowing with musk..... Must try it again.....

    Djinn

I thought this was going to be another Brimstone, but moreso. I was expecting nothing but "fire smoke and ash" as per the description. But there are some sweet and noble notes all through it, making it something very special. It was a scent of great power rising from the ashes. It's a definite keeper. It's going in my impworthy pile for now, but I might promote it to bottleworthy after a few more wearings....

    Troll

I was at a meet and sniff last Sunday and mentioned that I liked Troll, and got a wide-eyed response..."You wear TROLLLLLL????" or WTTE. Oh my yes. I find that the three things that make my skin sing are musks, leathers and vetiver, and it doesn't hurt if there are some spices around the margins. So Troll is so full of win. The vetiver has to be tempered to work on me, and there are so many lovely burnt and singed spices that my skin just dances to them. This is on my short list to get a bottle of sometime this year.

    Gluttony

Honest to pete this is one of the only scents I have refrained from even testing. I got a frimp of this one before it was discontinued. I'm not big on foodie scents but I was curious about the seven deadly sins series. I choked just smelling it. I'm not a dessert person in real life, I can take or leave it, but this was every dessert ever baked. This was getting trapped overnight in a diabolical bakery. I couldn't bring myself to put it on my skin. But for anyone who craves the sugar, cake and chocolate scents, grab an imp of this before it's all gone.

    Ogun

Oh, it's definitely weird, but it's weird in the way I like. I usually can't do fruits and florals, but this melon is subdued and framed by such luscious dark scents. The juniper is made of win, and the heavy tobacco is in the family of dark scents I love (musks, leathers, etc.). I don't get the chili pepper and honey perceptibly, but they must be balancing each other out. I love this, and it's one of the few bottleworthy (for me) scents I've found. And I just scored an aged near-full bottle from a forumite.

    Highwayman

As one of the rare "I love vetiver" members (and one of the rarer male ones), this was something I was anxious to try. When I reviewed my list of favorite scents, many of them have a touch of the evil "V" in them. But I've developed my own internal scale. Iago, Czernobog: Lovely amount of vetiver, makes me feel and smell good all over Malediction: A striking amount of vetiver, bordering on too much, but balanced out by other ingredients. A Countenance Forboding Evil: OMG. That is just TOO MUCH VETIVER!!!! So I was a little worried that Vetiver being the primary component of Highwayman, I would be too far up the scale. And at first sniff, I thought I was in trouble. That's certainly the first thing that hits you, and hits you *hard*. But I gave it time In several minutes, the other ingredients came out and mellowed and balanced the vetiver. Became a good strong scent but one with some sweet floral and leather dancing around it. Really nice. This one goes on my top ten list, and one of the only scents I will be hankering for a bottle of...

    The Death of Autumn

I was given a half-decant at a Meet-and-Sniff and tested it today. It's heady. When it went on I was in love with the autumn spices, but in mere moments there was something offputting and sharp, and moments later *that* disappeared. It's certainly a morpher as noted above. It settled into a pungent and redolent scent, not unpleasant but not too sweet or cloying, with a little decay mixed in. It was very, very interesting. Ultimately, this isn't going on my "want a bottle" list (and too bad, as there are a few bottles on sale in the For Sale forum), but I liked it a lot.

    Enkhespalos

Oh, it's too perfect. Leather is always good for me, and the cognac is so enthralling. It is the best "dress-up" scent I've found. I try to stay away from LEs, as I can't bear to know that I will not be able to buy more. But someone frimped me a decant some months ago and I fell in love with it. I scored a half-bottle from someone and a couple decants and I'm hoarding it for special occasions. If this found its way into the GC, I would be a very happy masculine-scented BPALler.

An Introduction to the Stash Manager

Can we view others' stashes yet, or is that coming later? I don't see how to click on someone's stash from their profile page (though I can easily get to "My Stash."
  15. I realize this thread is a little dead but there are some wonderful scents listed on here. I just tried Satyr for the first time yesterday, and I really liked it, but I was wondering if it was a little too similar to Czernobog (which is how I stumbled on this thread). I totally love Czernobog and I don't know that I'd wear Satyr too much if I had them both. (Also, my skin is scared of cinnamon and I suspect there was a little of it in Satyr). When you think "animalistic," then "musk" always comes to mind, in all its various splendors. But I'm a guy, so musks and dark scents take to me. Not all the scents I like would work on most women. That said, Troll is a lovely dark musk with sweet burnt notes. But the most animalistic scent I have, and my absolute favorite, isn't a musk at all. Iago kills. It's a sharp wet leather with that nasty vetiver and a few other things. It's feral. It's a grotty bar down wet steps into a Hamburg Rathskeller. Again, I don't know that it would work for most women, but dab some on your boyfriend and see what happens.....

    Red Devil

Yes, it's red and bright and hot and ......there's something.....reallly....*skanky* going on. Must be musks but this is very fragrant. Off-putting at first but very compelling. I swear this smells like two people who have just had sex and are getting up the energy to have some more.

    Azathoth

Smelled very intriguing in the bottle. Got a good hint of the tangerine and vetiver when it hit my skin. And then.....it vanished. I can barely smell it. Mere minutes after applying it, it faded away, and I can only get vague whispers of what it was trying to do. I reapplied a couple of hours later and.....it disappeared again. Shoot, and I loves me some vetiver most of the time. Azazoth is a little too high pitched on me, though -- so high-pitched that only my dog can smell me.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

I just ordered imps of Nocnitsa and Event Horizon from a Bpaller. Both have been on my "want to try" list for some time. Glad to know other guys have had success with them.....

Oh, Lust, you were irresistible when you started. But you were over too soon. I feel let down. And used. And cheap.

    Anne Bonny

Oh my goodness, yes. Oh yes. How wonderful. I was worried that it would be a nice "lady" scent but it melds so nicely on me. Loved it from the first sniff. Maybe not bottleworthy but impworthy certainly. Interestingly, I let my 12-year-old son smell my wrist without telling him what the name of it was, and he said immediately it smelled like the sea. And there's no mention of sea/ocean/water in the description. (Of course, he may have been smelling remnants of Ogygia on me, but I tried that one five hours ago and have showered it off). It will go on my list of "spicy" scents next to Voodoo, and someday I'll have to pick a favorite to bottle-ize.
  21. zmulls

    Ogygia

Um, ditto for me. This is a scent you want to put on and spend the first 20 minutes locked in a closet. It comes on too strong at first, and you have to let it settle in. The "clean ocean" smell is very potent, and very effective. I can't complain at all about the main goal of the scent. But like Ryvre, I didn't get anything else (at least not more than the barest trace). And there are many aquatics that work better for me.....ah well, farewell to Circe.

    The Sea Foams Blood

Eaarrgh. No, this one is more than disappointing. Aquatics usually work, and the blood note in Bloodlust is kind to me. But something in this is really disliking my skin. It went on astringent, powerfully so, and dried quickly down into a sad babypowder. Good fortune to all those for whom this works, on land or sea. Swap pile for me.

Old Demons of the First Class

Much too strong out of the bottle. Kicks and screams and claws at you. But after 15 minutes, it dies down to a good sharp scent with lurking sweetness. An elegant troll-like scent. And still further in, the sweetness damps down and it lingers as a good dry thistly musk, without unnecessary pleasantness. I like it. Impworthy.
  24. zmulls

How much is in that imp anyway?

"Lab Full" is, I think, exactly the phrase -- and concept -- I was wrestling with! Thank you!

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

"smoke and clove?" I hesitate to recommend (what I think of as) heavily masculine scents to a woman, but if you're looking for smoke and clove you might look at Rumpelstilzchen (Marchen). ("Firewood and ash with an oddly otherworldly blend of patchouli, cardamom, nutmeg, black pepper, tonka, vetiver, and myrrh.") Lots of good smoke well-blended with the spices. No clove, but the nutmeg, cardamom and myrrh all have that sweetness. On me, it's just perfect. Worth a try for you, if the spice notes mix well with the smoke. Today, I'm trying Troll, which has "clove smoke" in it, but I don't know if I'm ready to recommend it. I need to try it another day. It's OK, but it might be too "dark" even for me, and not as well-balanced as Rumpelstilzchen.
