    Mi-Go Brain Canister

I too had a "feeling" that Mi-Go Brain Canister wasn't going to "work" for me. Moody woman that I've been, as of late. MGBC was available at the NY/NJ Mad Tea Party, I believe Harlequin had hers. I had only smell it from the cap of the bottle & frankly, I was worried. It was very sweet smelling. Sweet's ok but this seemed fairly concentrated, sicky sweet. Here's a bit of the Lab's description, just for reference: "In an effort to create a pleasing environment during a surprise trip to Yuggoth, we have created a soothing yet stimulating blend of pink pepper, peony, jasmine, mango, kiwi, pomegranate, pineapple, white ginger, serene white tea and light musks. Bon voyage!" Now, mind you...I've only worn this once. MGBC was complete & total jasmine with a tiny peep of light musks. I love jasmine but I really was hoping to smell more of the fruits mentioned here. Never fear, it has been my experience that BPAL blends smell better on me when they have aged a while. I'll try this again in 2 weeks & see if I can smell any changes. On the fence about this one. UPDATE 9-17-05: Here we are a couple of months later, time to try the squishy brains again. OM freaking G! I am so happy I didn't swap or sell this one. Mi-Go has grown up to be absolute scent perfection! It's deep, it's lush, it's sexy as hell! The molecules have wiggled & giggled their way around each other to create a sophisticated spicy, fruit/floral from another planet. I am no longer "on the fence" about this one. Definitely a keeper! The good news is that even though it was an extremely limited edition, there is plenty of Mi-Go on swaps or eBay to fulfill you every extraterrestrial desire.

    Euphrosyne

I've waited to review this & I'm glad I did. The first time I tried Euphrosyne it smelled like single notes of gardenia & tea rose. Not that that's bad, it's just I am definitely a jasmine & vanilla kind of person. I like rose perfumes but have a very hard time wearing them, especially "tea" rose scents. My 5ml of Euphrosyne is now about a month old & it suits me much better. Perhaps the extra time allows the base notes to develope. I can now throughly enjoy this scent!!! The jasmine & vanilla remind me of a lighter version of Antique Lace. In fact, if you love Antique Lace & want a blend with the same "vibe", try Euphrosyne. I think you'll like it.

    Iambe

Iambe: Her scent is one of comfort, beauty and joy: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea. Yep, that about sums it up. Iambe goes on floral & tea, primarily gardenia. It quickly softens to a beautiful amber/patchouli/rose. It's heavier on the patchouli than the rose but that's a good thing with my chemistry. I absolutely love this blend & have worn it every day since I received my Imp from jj_j. Updated 7/29/05: Doin' the happy "I got my bottle, I got my bottle!" Doin' the happy

    Antique Lace

This is a soft, sweet vanilla blend that melts slowy into a gentle floral. Except for the vanilla, the individual notes are impossible for me to identify. The dry down (4 hrs +) reminds me very much of Dorian. Antique Lace has become a real favorite; must be all the compliments.

    Delphi

Delphi appears to be one of these blends where it's impossible to be indifferent: you either love it or you don't. Unfortunately, I am in the "don't" category. Honey blends, of any kind, just do not agree with me.

    Oberon

"Oberon, from Illyria: Orchid, white musk, and bergamot wafting over juniper berries, with a gentle touch of soft, earthy patchouli." Whaaat? No rose? I swear I smell rose in this and not just any rose, KINKY rose! It's spicy, it's sexy-hot-man smell. Oh la la

    Rain Scents

    Sea of Glass, definitely!

    Graveyard Dirt

One of the things I love about BPAL is the unexpected...ness of Beth's creations. Graveyard Dirt is no exception. This is soil, rich, fecund SOIL! The blend doesn't morph, as some shapeshiftier (is that a real word?)blends do. Nope, Graveyard Dirt stays true to the description and man-O-chevitz, does it last! 24+ hours later it is still there faint & quite lovely. This is a wonderful blend for layering too. It's wonderful with a teensy weency bit of Sugar Skull. Ok, so I had a sick sense of humor yesterday, at least I smelled great! Forgot to add: On the drydown, Graveyard Dirt reminds me of the evil scent sibling of Lolita Lempika. No kidding!

    Embalming Fluid

Since Embaling Fluid seems to be one of the most recommended warm weather scents, I decided to purchase a bottle of this unsniffed. I'm glad I did because it's not a blend I would have purchased for myself normally. The notes have been covered very well & this is one BPAL blend that my chemistry doesn't seem to alter. However, there's something very peculiar that happens when I wear Embalming Fluid. Call me crazy but I swear people smile at me more, strangers engage me in whitty conversation, happiness follows me like a wonderful cloud! Not what you'd expect wearing EF, I know but believe me, this is what's happening. I knew I loved BPAL...now I found a BPAL with "benies".

    Job Interview Recommendations

Of the blends you've listed, I think Belle Epoque would be the best. However, I would suggest you wear something lighter than all of those. You definitely do not want to have a sexy vibe going during the interview. Do you have any of these? Embalming Fluid, Water of Notre Dame, High John the Conqueror, Van Van, Has No Hanna, Dorian, Sea of Glass or Zephyr Just my opinion. Good Luck!

Oil recommendations for studying, learning, exams

I find lavendar oil to work wonders on kids. You might also want to take a look at this site. I mention it because one of my students did have a seisure during class. I did not know he was epileptic, I don't think anyone did. Thank good ness I hadn't been difusing anything. Contraindications for people with disabilities

    Venice

The Wanderlust scents in general have all "worked" for me & Venice is no exception. It's a stonger floral than I would wear in cooler weather but perfect for Spring when even the air is perfumed with the fragrance of flowering trees. (Yes, I really DO live in New Jersey.) Venice has been described as a "red" scent but on me it is definitely a PURPLE perfume. Yep, purple, no doubt about it. With my parculiar chemistry all of the purplish notes are amplified. This is wisteria, Florentine orris root (an excellent fixative), violet plum & violet leaf in the forefront. That odd, as my body usually amplifies jasmine. Either way, this reminds me of a purple version of Formula 54. Not because they smell alike but because they are both so rich & complex. I am enjoying Venice very much!
  13. In addition to those scents already mentioned, I like Dorian, Loralei, Tarot: The Lovers (neroli goodness) & believe it or not, Tombstone for hot weather.

    Black Rose vs. Spellbound?

I couldn't wear Spelbound at all but love Black Rose. BR is one of those multipurpose BPAL "staples" for me. I use it for layering & especially for amping up my hair products. Good stuff!!!!

    The Lovers

As per usual, my chemistry plays up very different notes on this one. (Remember me, I'm the premenopausal one on thyroid meds.) First of all, I purchased this from a lovely forum member, so I don't exactly know the age of it. I mention that because the "aged" blends tend to work better for me. No jokes, thankyouverymuch. Having said that, I detect absolutely no cinnamon whatsoever in The Lovers. I do smell neroli, a little lavender & some very light mint. When it dries, I detect a very subtle rose over the neroli and something that reminds me of the color green. I like Tarot: The Lovers very much and will enjoy it throughout the warmer weather.

    Dragon's Hide

We like all things "dragon" in our house. Dragon's Hide is no exception. The Dragon's Blood does it's usual jasminish floral, which is a good thing, on me anyway. The dry down on this one is a bit more difficult to describe. It's not the "in your face" leather, I so love in Perversion. Instead this is softer, more subtle black Italianish leather. The throw is much more intimate. Come hither, so I can nibble on your ear, kind of intimate. Overall, a more subtle but sexy blend from the Ars Draconis category.

What to do when oil gets in a child's eye?

I bought some roller ball bottles shortly after this incident, just for this purpose. Great that we were thinking alike!

    Dorian

Dorian is sharing BPAL spot Numero Uno in my heart. The notes are cosistent with the majority of the descriptions: not exactly sex on a stick, nor cotton candy sweet. It's black tea the way I learned to first drink it. I was 7 & we were living in Quincy, MA. I can still remember my Mom telling me, "This is the way the ladies in Boston drink their tea." I don't know if it was true but it made a big impression on me. Dorian immediately conjures that memory of my first cup of tea, strong & sweet, with cream.

    Silk Road

Silk Road is magnificent on me. I've never used the word "magnificent" in a review. Nope, don't believe I have. I can defintely see the comparisons made to Snake Oil & Three Witches but this is softer, more rounded. Silk Road is a "morph-er" & every single phase of it is so interesting. It's been about 6 hours since I applied SR, and it's still lovely. I believe the notes have been covered very well, so I'll just add my wee bit. (Oh yeah, I am so impressed with this that I put a request in the "Wanted" section of swaps.) Definitely in the top three for me!!!

    R'lyeh

I can't believe I haven't reviewed R'lyeh, especially as it has become a favorite of mine! This scent is chock-a-block full of scent memories for me; all of them wonderful. When I was very little we used to go to the beach nearly every day. Well, there wasn't much money & there definitely wasn't a lot to do for a child on a Navy base in Mayport, Florida. Walking the beach & climbing huge oak trees covered in Spanish Moss was my personal form entertainment. When I wasn't reading a book, I was building a fort in a downed tree or combing the beach for interestingly shaped driftwood. R'lyeh smells exactly like those experiences! Salty air, sunshine, driftwood, trees & moss. It's all THERE! Thank you, Beth! I really am enjoying R'lyeh! :00001651:

    Netzach

When the Sephiroth were first introduced, I purchased just one bottle & it was Netzach. Since I had no idea which blend to choose, I used my douser to help make the selection. "Which blend would be for my highest good?", sort of thing. The blend opens as "wet roses" but this phase (unfortunately) doesn't last very long. Dang! The next phase does not "agree" with my nose, at all. It reminds me of the smell of certain marigolds. I'm not sure if anyone will know what I mean by that. Here's a little hint: I plant marigolds around my roses to control "pests". Not good, aroma wise but the blend "feels" good, so I'm rolling with it. "Endurance" certainly applies to this blend, as it lasts a very long time. The marigold phase lasts longer than I would like, but the drydown is worth the wait. This is my favorite phase, the deep, woody notes make a "thruming" vibration that's extremely relaxing. Complex, unusual, not-to-be-worn-as a perfume blend for me though.

    Tiphareth

This is definitely a "ritual" blend for me. On first application, I smell pine, strong, clean & clear. A little involuntary shiver runs down my spine. Tiphareth softens as it dries & an aroma reminicent of light comes to the fore. It's not floral, exactly, not creamy...exactly but somehow a little bit of both. I would call this a "complex" blend, subtle, powerful.

Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL

Ra is my "wake up and smell the coffee" (even thought it doesn't have coffee in it) blend.

What to do when oil gets in a child's eye?

Hey Finny are our kids related? Sofie's not a Leo but she does have Leo rising. She's a cusp kid, 9/21. Even though this happened a while ago, my girl is definitely "off" perfume. She loves her Villaness Gingersnapped Smooch but won't wear any of her BPAL. Even when I open an Imp, I can tell she's nervous. She will still ask me, "Is my eye red?" I hope she gets over this. The girls' got a great "nose" & I loved sharing perfume with her. My sensitive little artist...

    Spooky

This is a strange one. My body amplifies anything with chocolate in it. So much so, that I have to wash the culprit off immediately. I have very mild asthma, it rarely bothers me but Spooky had me wheezing. How sad. Off to the swap mines for you Spooky!
