    Blithe Hollow

This is a very pretty scent. I found it to be very unisex. It is a cool, sweet mix of forest (definitely pine and cedar) and aquatic/ozone, slightly soap-like but not laundry sheets or anything. I was ready to buy a full bottle but then the maple syrup came out on me and overwhelmed the rest of the notes.

    Sorrowful Affection

The appearance of Justine was calm. She was dressed in mourning, and her countenance, always engaging, was rendered, by the solemnity of her feelings, exquisitely beautiful. Yet she appeared confident in innocence and did not tremble, although gazed on and execrated by thousands, for all the kindness which her beauty might otherwise have excited was obliterated in the minds of the spectators by the imagination of the enormity she was supposed to have committed. She was tranquil, yet her tranquillity was evidently constrained; and as her confusion had before been adduced as a proof of her guilt, she worked up her mind to an appearance of courage. When she entered the court she threw her eyes round it and quickly discovered where we were seated. A tear seemed to dim her eye when she saw us, but she quickly recovered herself, and a look of sorrowful affection seemed to attest her utter guiltlessness. Sorrowful affection: lily of the valley, tuberose, pink carnation, green tea absolute, orange zest, bourbon geranium, and blue musk. This is a pretty scent. It is mostly floral and musk while it's wet, with a hint of citrus and tea. I get the lily and carnation primarily. It gets kind of sharp and slightly soapy as it dries, probably as the lily and tea get stronger and come to the front. Dry, it is mostly sharp floral tea. I liked it more in the wet stage, I think, but it is pretty.

    Jareth

This actually reminds me of Crowley in some ways, with the leather-vanilla-lilac cologne combination. (The tonka in Jareth is reading as vanilla to my nose.) Except, where Crowley is thick and heady from the oakmoss, patchouli, wood, and red musk, Jareth is a bit sweeter and sharper from the tea and white musk. I do get a bit of citrus in Jareth, I assume from the tea. I think this is also similar to Dorian, as others have already said. To me, the strongest notes are the lilac - which is sweetened by the tonka - and leather. I really like it and I think I'll wear it a lot!

    Temperature and BPAL

I think you are probably okay. The heat makes the oils break down faster, but bottles are exposed to more heat when they sit in mail delivery trucks for a few days in a row. I have left some imps in my car for a few days, in very very hot summer conditions, and they were fine after they cooled off. It's not recommended but I think it would take longer than a few hours to do any serious damage. (Probably also depends on the oil. Some might be more susceptible to damage from the heat.)

    Vicomte de Valmont

I'm testing this from an aged imp, and unfortunately I'm getting the impression that this is probably best when it's fresh. This smells like men's aftershave to me. I'm definitely getting musk and mint, along with some florals, aquatic, and rosemary. Ambergris doesn't age very well, so I'm assuming it's already faded away as I don't really get any here. The whole blend sweetens and quiets down a little bit as it dries. I'm not a huge fan, but I'd be interested in testing a fresh imp to see if it's any different.

    Cathouse Atmosphere Spray

I think I must be picking up on the magnolias or something, because when I sprayed this all I could really smell was...pears. Pretty pears! Herbal floral pears. But pears. Not what I was expecting. There is a sweet floral freshness to it, and I do like it, but not enough to invest in a full bottle.

    Fae Forest Atmosphere Spray

This smelled nice, but very much like a deodorizing spray I could pick up anywhere. I got a floral, clean air vibe to it, but I found it kind of chemical and fake. I agree with reviews that have said it would work best in a bathroom, or maybe a bedroom or living room during the spring or summer.

    Exotic Bazaar Atmosphere Spray

This one is hard for me to get a handle on. It's sweet but also a bit dark. I sprayed it on a pillow, and every time I go back to sniff I pick up on something different. I get the ginger, the spices, the amber. At one point, it smelled like baked goods with something dark lurking in the background. Now I'm picking up on the neroli. I think this definitely fits the description well.

    CD: Misfortune Teller v3

This is very similar to the released version of Mme. Moriarty, although it is lighter and sweeter. Too sweet for me, unfortunately. The drydown is sugary plums and a little musk. Pretty, but I prefer the original version.

    Byron v13

I tested this once last night and am now testing it again. I'm definitely getting leather and something sweet that is maybe tonka? It doesn't smell like vanilla to me, and it ends up drying down to something kind of beeswax-y. It reminds me a lot of Dee, which makes me think it is tonka. Anyway, leather, tonka, musk...something mildly spicy. In the dry-down, I thought I got a hint of florals, making me wonder if there is a tiny bit of carnation in there. I agree that there might be something metallic. Metallics do not like me except in very small doses, and this definitely behaves. I think this is definitely a good one for fans of Dee.

    Neutral

This is much sweeter than I was expecting. Someone else said "candied florals" and that is exactly what I'm getting too. Very sweet floral musk with an edge of fruitiness. In fact, this is more like sweetpea on me than it is skin musk. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of sweetpea. I was hoping this would be a good one for layering, but it's not working for me.

    Rogue

This is a much lighter scent than I was expecting. I had to slather a bit to really smell it. On, it is sweet and piney, with some leather in the background. Not as much leather as I was expecting, but it's definitely there. It gets a bit sweeter in the drydown and ends up reminding me of U (the Mutter Museum blend). I think it is the leather/balsam combo in U that I'm finding very similar to this blend. Not as much leather as I was hoping for, but I still really like this. I might do some layering to see about bringing the leather out more. Definitely a keeper!

    A Golden Idol

This is such a beautiful perfume. I was intrigued by the combination, thinking that if the vetiver wasn't too strong that this could be really good. Well, when I got the imp all I could smell was vetiver, which was disappointing. I put it aside and forgot about it for a while. When I dug it out a couple of weeks ago, I skin-tested it and fell in love. The vetiver is very strong when it's wet, but after about 20 minutes it really mellows out. The amber goes powdery on me, but it works with the blend. When I sniff too close I get a strong hit of vetiver, but with a bit of space it is perfect. The whole thing dries down to an expensive-smelling smoky floral, very classic and reminiscent of the time period she was trying to capture. This probably won't mean much to anyone else, but this reminds me of a smokier version of The Body Shop's discontinued Violet Leaf, which I loved and was heartbroken over. I'm so happy to own this, as I know I'll be wearing it often. Also, this lasts for a long time. I put it on yesterday, and after a shower I could still smell it on my skin when I reapplied it this morning.

    Shortbread Snowflakes

On me, this is a lot like Love's Philosophy with a mint note. Maybe my nose is just not very good at distinguishing between sweet bakery notes, but that is exactly what it smells like to me! Throw is pretty good, too. The mint is a little shrieking at first but it mellows into something nice after a while.

    Kourabiedes

This went on like a sweet vanilla cream with powdered sugar - other reviews have mentioned rum and liquor, and I can see that. I'm not sure my nose can tell if it's liquor or a cream note. Anyway, that doesn't last long because my skim amped the spices, and for the rest of the day I smelled like a cinnamon candle. Disappointing, because I love the cookies.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I am looking for scents with a drier vanilla note that isn't too sweet. I recently swapped for a vanilla CT with a dry cedar note, and it is wonderful. I would love to find more scents with that dry vanilla. The closest I can think of is maybe Crowley, which has "vanilla husks," or maybe The Bow and Crown of Conquest, which is paired with drier notes. Neither of those are as dry as my vanilla CT, but probably the closest I can come up with. I basically just want a vanilla that isn't too sweet, gourmand, or creamy. Other vanilla scents that I have tried (including some that I love): Lyonesse, Snake Oil, CC: Female, Banshee Beat, Madame Moriarty, Snake Charmer Resurrected, The Soldier, The First of the Three Spirits, The Pickled Imp, Golden Priapus, The Antikythera Mechanism, Dorian, The Illustrated Woman, Tombstone, Love's Philosophy, Gypsy, Sachs, Inez, Wulric, TKO, Lilith Victoria...there are a million others that I am probably forgetting. Scents I want to try next: Zephyr, Black Opal. I have a partial bottle of U (the Mutter Museum scent) on its way to me, and the description makes it sound like it could be dry, so I'm hoping it will work.

    The Perfect Lavender

I've always thought of French lavender as a sweet, more floral blend as well, but I'm going off of the essential oils I have. I use French and Croatian, and Croatian is sharper and more medicinal by comparison. I couldn't tell French and English lavender apart because I don't know what the English version smells like. However, Mysterious Warning seems to be a sweeter lavender. That might be the amber helping it along, though.
  18. I actually have a decant of that coming to me! I'd passed on it originally because I'm not a huge fan of violet, but I've heard the leaf note is more green than floral so I'm hoping it will work on me.
  19. Bumping this thread to see if anyone had more tea recs. I just tried Embalming Fluid last night, and I love it a lot. I was wondering if anyone had any light, fresh tea recs? I love Dorian, Mysterious Warning, and Nostrum Remedium (which is my perfect tea scent - black tea, very fresh and not too sweet). I'd love to get a few new imps to try with my next lab order. From this thread, here is my short list: Herbert West Kumiho Cheshire Cat Dormouse Baobhan Sith Shanghai Maiden Tweedledum I was actually thinking about springing for a bottle of Shanghai or Kumiho unsniffed, as they seemed the most promising, but I should probably hold off.

    The Soldier

Upon application, this was very foodie and sweet...with a really odd, out-of-place note, which I think must have been the pepper. I got the leather and pie mostly, some vanilla cream, and a bit of musk and pepper. I never got much tea. I'm not sure I love the leather/pie combination at the beginning, especially with the pepper, but the longer it stayed on my skin the more I kept huffing my hand. The musk and pepper faded, and I was mostly left with sweet vanilla cream pie and a bit of leather underneath. I actually wish I'd gotten more musk and no pepper, but maybe age will help with that. It's too sweet for every day, but I'll definitely be using this bottle.

    Death and Life Completed

Wet, this is beautiful. Floral with sharp and soft notes, and a bit of bite...from the lemon balm, I think. I agree that it is a bright scent. There is also a slight coolness to the blend overall. A bit perfume-y, but not in a generic way. It is slightly sweet from the amber and the cedar, and I really love that cedar/carnation combination, which reminds me of The Bow and Crown of Conquest, one of my favorites. As it dries, it gets sharper and more perfume-y on me. I have tried this in the past, and at times it has given me a headache and made me a bit nauseous. I think it must be the florals, since I don't have that problem with any of the other notes. Lasts for a few hours, but the best part is the first hour for me. A very pretty scent, but I'll have to think about a bottle...

    L'Ecole des Filles

Wet, I get citrus first, with rose and a bit of saltiness from the ambergris. A tiny bit of sweetness. I like rose-lemon as a combination, so this works for me. I've always thought orange blossom smelled like soap (or maybe cheap body spray), and there is a soapy quality to this blend but I don't hate it. Maybe it is the rose or the ambergris or one of the other ingredients, but I kind of like it. It's fresh and pretty, nice for spring or summer. Doesn't seem to be lasting very long though.

    Paper Kite

Sniffing the imp, I almost didn't try it on. The pepper was savory, and just didn't smell like something I wanted to put on my skin, at all. On, it stills smelled savory and not pleasant. The pepper is fading, but not quickly enough for me. :/ I like coconut, but this combination is not for me.

    Mysterious Warning

This is really nice. Sweet lavender right away, with leather grounding it. There is a tea-like quality around the edges, but it's subtle. The leather fades with time, and more amber comes out. I admit that I like the beginning more than the dry down, but it's all wonderful. It's a very floral blend, but I think it's unisex. I'll definitely be getting a bottle.

    Gypsy

Oh! This is prettier than I imagined. I don't usually like super sweet foodie scents, but somehow this just works for me. I don't get much cardamom, just maybe a suggestion of spice. Mostly it is musk and sweet, foodie vanilla. Very pretty! I will definitely be getting at least one more bottle before they come down. The only downside is that it doesn't last very long. I applied it about 3 hours ago and had almost no throw after about 2 hours. It is still clinging to my skin though. Might need to keep a roller bottle in my office.
