    Red Devil

I had a bunch of forgotten imps never reviewed that I'm now returning to. This is from 2009, 10-year-old aged imp. Pale in colour. Imp: Something clean fresh, floral, and cinnamon? On: I really do seem to get lots of spices. Mainly cinnamon is all I can recognise. Something orangey in the background but spice has taken the forefront of this aged scent. I'm finding this really interesting because fresh reviews have suggested no cinnamon at all or very little at the start, but perhaps it's a mix of pepper with herbals that is making me think of it? Either way it's verrrry prominent in this aged imp. Drydown: The "spice" eventually fades away and I'm getting a lot more orange. I don't really get florals or rather, not really good at picking them, but generally I'm not a fan of them so the fact I haven't noticed any is a win for me. Occasionally I get a whiff of it and it makes me think of Fanta haha! Perhaps even with Jasmine tea in the background. I remember when I first got this imp I wasn't interested, but trying it now aged I'm really enjoying it. Verdict: The aging really brought out the spice in this imp. I really liked the spiciness at the start and sweetness at the end.

    The Creation of Lilith

I received a sniffie of this. Sweet, not so much lavender as I thought, fig is prominent too.

    Lemongrass

I purchased a decant in bottle of what I think is the 2017 version. It definitely smells like lemongrass! Almost sweet. Quite lemon citrus more than green. It's aged really well.

    Love and Sleep

I was very generously gifted a decant of this! What an amazing human being ❤️ Unknown age but the decant is clear in colour. I'm also not familiar with BPAL's orchid note, but there are just so many different orchid essential oils that I've left out identifying it in my review. Wet: Figgy, oh so slightly fruity floral (ylang ylang?), mmmm! (I actually don't like florals so this is a win). On: This feels very cooling, almost icy on me. It smells similar to wet on me, but not as strong and fading. I hope it doesn't disappear on me because I really like it. Drydown: It doesn't fade completely phew! There's something strong on the nose at the end here that I can't pick. It makes me think of warmth. The drydown is lovely. It smells slightly fruity still, a bit vanilla, sweet but not in a foody way. It's pretty without being floral. Few hours later: The base remains-- vanilla. Maybe something powdery in the background but it's lovely and not dry (definitely creamy still). It makes me think of fruity/citrus something, but after a few hours the vanilla dominates. PS: I just wanted to add that despite the boring way I have written my review (as I do most reviews 😂) this is a DARLING scent. I am normally a foodie, smokey, not floral type of bean, and I never ever thought I would absolutely love and adore a scent such as this one. It is GORGEOUS and I now have a bottle to devour with all intentions of getting more bottles.

    Western Bonneted Bat

I bought this because it reminded me of a "simpler" Perversion and I am so glad I did because it is actually really lovely. I also love that it matches me in the description-- fairly antisocial and private... and yet I feel like this scent should be shared and smelt by more (or at least those within my colony!) Wet: Dark caramel? But not too sweet, almost like molasses On: Yep, butterscotch tobacco. I'm a big fan of how bpal's tobacco sits on me and this is just yum. Simple and delicious. It does smell like butterscotch in that warm butter kind of way (which I love), sweet but the tobacco just takes the edge off. I personally would say that it leans more towards the perfume side than the food side, but it is much more sugary than Perversion. Drydown: More of before, it doesn't seem to morph much on me. Great throw and wear length.

    Grief

I was actually grieving when I tested this imp, and I don't think it matched. Different grievances, different feelings. Green, floral, soap smell. Not soapy, but reminds me of what's used in them. It didn't quite work for me, but has good wear and throw.

    Dragon's Claw

On me it smells exactly like sandalwood and a bit of resin with little morphing. Good wear and throw.

    The Knave of Hearts

Wet: caramel, roses and something I can't pick On: so, smells like pastry in that floury way. But it's a weird mix with rose and blackcurrant underpinning it so it seems less foody. The combination is quite confusing for my nose. Drydown: more pastry, doesn't actually morph much on me. Still just as confusing. Slightly less floral so I like it better but not for me. Good throw, long wear

    Two, Five & Seven

Rose rose rose. Stays strong, Good throw long wear. Did not get grass but did get something fruity earlier on.

    Plunder

I am trying an aged imp. Wet: Cinnamon fruit cake, peppery. Dry: warm cinnamon cakes Later : soft cinnamon Basically just cinnamon on me lol I don't hate it. I have a feeling I amp cinnamon a lot based on this and other scents. But unfortunately it means I overpower all the other yummy spices.

    The Caterpillar

Stoked to have gotten this as an imp as I collect the Alice scents but was hesitant on this one. Since it's a "masculine" scent I also tested it on my partner. Me: On: floral, something very heavy/smoky, incense. It almost reminds me of lavender which I don't like but there's none in this... Drydown: wow OK so this mellows out on me in a lovely way. I was really worried about the florals as I'm not too fond of them but the combination seems to work. There's something sweet coming through and it's definitely an androgynous scent. Later: sweet incense, bergamot. Actually quite lovely Him: On: floral incense, bergamot, musk, something from his childhood Drydown: musk, a little sweet, maybe a bit citrus floral Note: My partner tends to amp anything sweet and absorb smokes, so although it was more citrus and musky on him, it still worked for both of us in different ways.

    The Antikythera Mechanism

I received an imp of this and fell in love! I have since purchased a bottle. Imp: I can't help but smell oil and gears in this for some reason. In the imp I didn't like it at first but I accidentally got some on my nose when sniffing and actually liked it afterwards. I tried it on both myself and my partner. Me: I get wood, tobacco, but it's quite light, almost citrus on me but vanilla sweet not sour. Him: vanilla and tobacco Neither of the scents morph much on us, but I do think the woods faded first on me. My partner amps sweet but this wasn't overpowering. Overall: lovely, and something both of us can wear. It's not overall gourmand and I just love how the scent works on my skin.

    All Night Long

Imp: chai? Glue? Cinnamon. I don't know why but yes, glue. On: lemonade, chai, surprisingly sweeter outside the imp. Very cinnamon on the nose. Actually tingly on my nose. 5 mins: cinnamon. Like Red Hots. My partner smells some kind of musk. Very sharp on the nose almost. Sweet. I believe I amp some spices and this one is definitely all cinnamon on me. 30 mins: still cinnamon, I am getting a vague powdery undertone but no idea what else other than cinnamon. There is some Sandalwood. 1 hour: much less strong cinnamon, but still tingles the nose. Unfortunately I can't work out the other notes due to the cinnamon! Damn amping 😂

    Dragon's Bone

Tested on both myself and my partner. Bottle: clean, soap? Oh nooo Me: On: sweet soap. Floral, maybe the orris Drydown: more wood comes through, sweet sandalwood Him: On: a little bit sweet soap. Sweet scents tend to go too sweet on him. Drydown: suddenly less sweet, more musky, more wood... Then, oh no, it smells like soapy body odour. Overall: Very short throw. We're both not a fan. It worked better on me but it's not something I'd wear. Updated review: I thought I'd try this again because I tested Dragon's Boner recently. This time around Dragon's Bone is mostly wood notes and blood resin. I'm enjoying Dragon's Bone more this time around but it's still threatening to go into soapy BO territory on me... So alas not for me.

    Mad Sweeney

I tested this on both myself and my partner. Me: Bottle: smokey bourbon On: maple, tobacco, strong. 10 mins: as above, maybe underlining bourbon but not as much as I'd like 30mins: less tobacco, more bourbon woo! Sweet tobacco on the back of my nose. It reminds me of a smokier version of Perversion. After an hour it fades into a definite bourbon. Lovely. Him: On: very sweet tobacco, almost citrus, still smokey. He thinks it smells more like sweet gin and juice than bourbon. 30 mins: thankfully, bourbon, smoke, a lot of the sweet faded (he amps sweet). 1 hour: fades quicker on him, unfortunately, but ends on a nice soft bourbon scent, wood smoke.

    Irish Coffee Buttercream

Bottle : Like rich Irish coffee buttercream! On: Immediately getting buttery notes. Can smell it from a distance so seems to have a good throw. Cream? Something floury / powdery almost. Fades quickly on me and I'm not getting much coffee or whiskey at this point. 30 mins: Coffee and whiskey has faded and is faint on my skin chemistry. I would have liked more. Has a very light touch of milky coffee but only if I sit smelling it. 1 hour: vanilla cream only. I wish I had more coffee, but it's still a nice foody scent.

    Kvothe

I tested this on myself and my partner. Me: Bottle/wet: Sweet wood Dry: Oak? Smoke. Underlining musk. Short throw. I need to smell my wrist directly but I don't mind that because I was worried it would be too strong. Glad I read reviews because it is much more enjoyable than originally thought. Drydown: Light and sweet musk. I'm getting a whiff of some kind of alcohol note. Fades very quickly Him: Wet: musk / floral Dry: more of above. It's very prominent on him. Overall: unfortunately just a light musk on him, no oak or smoke and very low throw Overall: The original description of "strong" was definitely incorrect. It's Kvothe sitting in his spotless inn. Much more enjoyable than thought. We didn't get any notable spices which is strange as I can amp some. May have to try again at a later point. Edit: I made this review before a full scent description was provided. Oddly I don't recall leather or spices.

    Bread-and-Butterfly - Resurrected

I thought I had reviewed this, but apparently not! Like other posts I am in love with the original formula, so when I tried on the Ressurected version I was sadly disappointed. Unfortunately for me, the new version just didn't work. Bottle: Smells more buttery and maple syrupy than the original I have. On: There's something I can't pick that is really familiar. Like a fake smell? Toast? Plastic? Right at the end of my nose. Like rice! Toasted rice. Not as buttery as the original so far. Shorter throw. 5 mins: very toast, very rice in my opinion. Not really sweet so if you prefer less sugary scents you might like this but I don't as much. I preferred the buttery warmth of the original. 30mins: Very short throw. I kind of get an impression of bread and butter at the end but not enough. Have to touch my nose to wrist. So much toast. Not really bread to me because it reminds me so much of rice. My mom used to toast up rice and I really liked eating it, but as a perfume it doesn't speak bread and butter to me. 1 hour: Nope, not for me. Couldn't stand it in the end and washed off. So sad

    Bliss

I've tested Bliss in the imp soooo many times in the hopes it would work, because it's just so yummy, but like all of BPALs chocolate notes it can go sour or plastic on me. Wet: mix of dark and milk chocolate On: milk chocolate... So far on me. Drydown: sour milk chocolate It does have a short throw and life on me so the sour does go away and is tolerable, just not as lovely. I ended up buying a bottle anyway to use in my burner because, chocolate.

    Drops of of Amontillado

Wet: grape, wine, something "fresh" in the back of my nose like mint... Just me? 🤔 On: very icy, cool smelling with a hint of wine. Drydown: can still smell grape, still seems icy but not as much. Short throw and life on me. Verdict: A nice simple boozy scent. Sweet grapes. I wish it would last longer because I could see myself using the imp very quickly in summer months. Might have to try this again and see if I'm still getting mint 🤔

    Snake Oil

So I decided to bite the bullet and purchase an imp of Snake oil. This did nooot work for me I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one with the sour note! Like starryeyes just before me. Wet: warm sugar, almost cashew like. On: sour butter. Whyyy. Savoury foody but still sour. Dry down: warm florals, still sugar, less sour butter... A bit cashewy. Sort of caramel but not. Slight plastic smell coming through (urgh, I get that with chocolate scents). Musky. Not for me. I wore it for so long in the hopes it would work but nope.

    Rogue

Wet: reminds me of that pungentness of rosemary maybe hemp. Tobacco. I'm also getting what I think is rosin but it smells too minty to me, but not leathery or hempy. It honestly doesn't smell leather to me. On: musky, minty. A bit sweet. Does not remind me of leather, it's not as warm, maybe because of the rosin / mint element. I hoped rosin (pine) would be less minty on me than other mints, because mints tend to over power on me, and unfortunately I was wrong.) Drydown: i think I would prefer this on me without the rosin. The leather appears to come out a bit, it's warmer, but the minty rosin doesn't work on me. It very lightly smells like hemp but rosin remains throughout the whole scent. Not for me.

    MVJBA: Spring Training 2008

I am testing an aged bottle from 2008-- almost 11 years! It's aged well, surprisingly. Wet: caramel, butter. Dry: more of the same but not over powering. It does make me think of peanut but sweeter with butter and caramel. There is something that smells salty. This has a good throw! I think the age has helped the bottle I have. Later: hm, a touch of popcorn here right at the end. Not as much caramel and still butter. Very enjoyable. Good throw and long life I love the old butter notes and am so pleased to have another buttery bottle to go with my Bread and Butterfly.

    Chad

Testing 2017 decant in bottle. Wet: Chocolate and something a bit like musk-- marshmallowy maybe. Slightly Mint? Seems to smell cool to my nose. Dry: Damn, why do chocolate scents smell a little bit plastic on me? Sometimes not. Very much of the same. Still chocolatey in a way. Still has that chill to it. Later: Similar to Bliss chocolate, and a bit icy. Short life and throw. Chocolates seem to have such short throws on me and can go plasticy. I hoped this one would sit better. Overall I like it but more for sniffing than wearing, due to my skin chemistry.

We Cared About Such Different Things

I tested from a 2017 decant. Wet: leather, slightly sweet Dry: strawberries? Very lightly musk on me. I'm actually finding it quite sweet but not in a foodie way. Seems to be fading quickly Later: lightly sweet musk, short throw. I have to huff my wrist with the nose directly on it. Short life. Surprisingly not what I thought it would be, not overpowering and quite lovely.
