  1. Shy is a pretty, pink scent but soft and well... shy. I get the sugar and carnation with hints of pear. The vanilla doesn't come out until later and it's fairly understated (thankfully).

BPAL Y U tease me with this scent?! It could have been a favourite, a bottle contender! I do hope it's released as more than just a sample in the future. It's a lovely blend!

  2. I have to ask, what about woodsy scents? Or does that fall into the spicy/musky category?

I'll second Embalming Fluid, Shanghai, The Apothecary, and The Dodo. Kuang Shi and Zephyr could work too, but they have a bit of a musk to them (white musk, but still).

I recommend Amsterdam for something light, crisp and clean, even though it has a bit of a floral component. If he's are feeling adventurous, he could also try Anubis. I find it very light and clean but I'm not sure how the myrrh would work for you.

For you I'm thinking Bastet and Poisoned Apple. Either of you could probably pull off Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat.

  3. When I saw this brought back for the 2012 Weenies I knew I had to have one!

WOODSMOKE! I've had a hard time finding a BPAL smoke note that works on me. This one does even though it seems to fade a bit. I think I'm surprised how sweet this blend is. Must be the treacle, but it could be that the beer and tar are sweeter notes than I expected. I get nothing boozy or bitter from the beer. The scent is kind of warm, brown and sticky, with smoke flavouring. :yum:

  4. This scent is very subtle. When I first sniffed it in the decant it smelled like cold, wet stone. It's different on my skin but still a "cold" scent. I love the mints, but I'm not too sure about the elemi. The white musk is there somewhere in the background rounding it out. It's too close to turning into floor polish on me unfortunately, otherwise it's an interesting scent.

  5. There is definitely something nutty in Oak Moon in the bottle and while it's wet on my skin, but this disappears on dry down. Otherwise, Oak Moon is a fairly "green" scent. I smell more of the sap and leaves than I do of the bark. I don't get any "berries" like others have mentioned, but I can see where a certain "edibleness" comes from. It's not quite vanilla, but there is something sweet to it.

  6. As Edens Sixth Day pointed out, I think there might be two batches of this. My decant was extremely piney, but I kind of liked it anyway so I bottled up. OMG, what I got in the bottle is even better!

The pine is strong, but it's not overpowering the other notes. I'd say it even fades over time. The sandalwood, cypress and frankincense mix extremely well together giving the blend that creamy/smokey-ness others have mentioned. I'm not getting much nutmeg, if any from either my decant or the bottle.

On the whole, I'd say this has a very masculine cologne feel to it. The throw is strong and the lasting power is excellent. Two thumbs way up!

  7. I have to admit, the first thing that came to mind was Velvet Dogs playing poker (which is in a similar vein to A Bachelor's Dog). I also think the Phoenix in Autumn would work well.

For GCs I've got to say Ogun. I think it would blend well with the coffee smell, but it's strong enough to hold it's own and it's wonderfully masculine. I also think The Lion might work well with the coffee shop smell.

  8. I waffled a lot over throwing this scent into my order. I'm fairly disappointed with the results. The florals are way too overpowering on me in the beginning. All I can smell are the rose, Ylang Ylang and Jasmine. Now that it's drying down the flowers are receding and the current is coming out. I can finally smell the musk too (which is yummy). It's ok dry, but I don't think I'm going to need an entire bottle.

  9. On me this totally smells like a dentist's office. I guess that could be kinky. Red Devil definitely has dragon's blood resin in it, which probably accounts for my weird skin chemistry reaction. Might be some Rose too, but it's hard to tell.

  10. This scent is quite unlike any I think I've tried so far. It's got that woodsy vibe of course, but instead of being some dark, damp, green or leafy forest this scent is light and kind of... tingly.

The strongest notes are the fir and honey but the maplewood, wildflowers (and I think the plum leaves) give it that light airy feeling of a fall forest. I was a little afraid of the patchouli, but it's playing nice with the other notes and hasn't come out to punch me in the nose. I can't find the hazelnut. I think the cognac is blending with the honey and fir needles which is why I don't really notice it. Overall the scent is well blended.

  11. Finally rolling in the decants! I only got two Pickmans -- Night Hag and Sentimental Initiation -- but they are both awesome! I figured I would like Regina Erebi, but it turned out to be better than I expected. My biggest bomb is Vampire Bride, though I bet for most other people it will be popular.

I waffled a lot over Muse of the Night and decided not to try it, but now I'm wishing I had given it a shot.

  12. Devil's Night 2011: The first thing that jumps out at me is the sugar. It's the same kind of sugar I smell in Lemon-scented-sticky-bat. The sweetness is also very reminiscent of Woods in Winter. As it dries it's sort of a sugar/musk type smell. Very close to the skin is the "autumn night" which smells like damp leaves. I can't pick out any fire/smoke smells and the "boozy swoon" is probably lost in the sugar, musk and leaves. For the life of me I do not know where some reviewers are getting Vanilla (maybe confusing it with the sugar).

Overall I'm surprised how sweet this scent is!

  13. Mmmm, grapey!

I agree with Veridian in that nothing else I've tried smells quite like this. Moon of Horses is very different.

The strongest note is the grape and it has a good throw to it. As others have mentioned it's not overly sweet and sort of has a woody tone to it. I think of grapes, fresh from the vine, being smashed up in large barrels to make wine. This is the note that lingers for me, and I have to say I like it.

Other notes are there, but I find they rest closer to the skin like the red wine, olive leaf, saffron and possibly other notes I'm not familiar with (costus root?). I do not get much, if any frankincense and no cinnamon or smoke (though that might be good because the lab's smoke note tends to go soapy on me).

All in all the scent is pretty and fun with a bit of a dark side to it. I'm not sure how often I'll wear it, but I'm inclined to keep it because it's refreshingly different.

  14. I don't think I would have ever picked this one out for myself due to the vetiver, so I was pleasantly surprised that this turned out so well on me! Apatouros is rich and smoky sweet. I'm pretty sure it's the fig and myrrh doing most of the work but the spice of the nutmeg also shines through.

I'm not sure if "Brazilian vetiver" is all that different from the usual vetiver, because normally I find vetiver overpowering and headache inducing. I can't pick out any of that note however. I wonder if this vetiver is a part of that green spicy smell going on.

I get zero opoponax from this. There may be a hint of green tea and carnation n the background, but like the vetiver it's hardly noticeable.

Overall I have only good things to say about this scent! It's rich and sexy, with a bit of spice thrown in for good measure. I tend to think of it as a black-brown scent with green undertones.

  15. I adore white sandalwood, honey, coconut and cherry blossom. This blend should have worked on me, but alas it does not.

It's mostly Orris and Iris on me, which is a pleasant feminine scent, just not what I was hoping for. I get small hints of the honey and coconut. The sandalwood might be there too, but its hard to pick out. I can't get any cherry blossom out of this at all! That makes me a sad panda.

  16. This has turned out to be really nice on me. It's heavy on the Red Musk, which I like, but there's enough going on with the other elements that's is an interesting and sexy scent. Patchouli is hit and miss for me, but it's behaving! The florals blend in nicely and eventually quite down, leaving this woody, musky scent... kind of like an Arbor covered in spring flowers that haven't opened yet.

Very nice, but the decant will do.

  17. I was hesitant to try this seeing as how dragon's blood resin goes all flowery on me, but then seeing as how this is a floral mix, it kind of works to the blend's advantage.

Lilac and lily of the valley are strong in this blend. It actually turns out to be a nice floral with the DBR giving it a nice robust scent. Not my taste however. 3/5

  18. Faunalia is one of my favourite scents. It smells like magic in a winter forest! The musk and plant notes mix together very well, creating a scent that's exciting and sexy.

Others have compared this scent to Ivanushka and Coyote. Ivanushka is like a soft, cuddly puppy compared to Faunalia's wild, untamed wolf. A similar vein but different intensity.

As for how "green" the scent is, I wouldn't rate it as very green at all. While there's a definite sense of forest, it's a dark starlit forest. I don't know why but I tend to think of Faunalia as a "purple" scent. Probably because it's so much more than just trees.
