    Croquet

'Get to your places!' shouted the Queen in a voice of thunder, and people began running about in all directions, tumbling up against each other; however, they got settled down in a minute or two, and the game began. Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet-ground in her life; it was all ridges and furrows; the balls were live hedgehogs, the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and to stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches. The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo: she succeeded in getting its body tucked away, comfortably enough, under her arm, with its legs hanging down, but generally, just as she had got its neck nicely straightened out, and was going to give the hedgehog a blow with its head, it would twist itself round and look up in her face, with such a puzzled expression that she could not help bursting out laughing: and when she had got its head down, and was going to begin again, it was very provoking to find that the hedgehog had unrolled itself, and was in the act of crawling away: besides all this, there was generally a ridge or furrow in the way wherever she wanted to send the hedgehog to, and, as the doubled-up soldiers were always getting up and walking off to other parts of the ground, Alice soon came to the conclusion that it was a very difficult game indeed. We have some trouble managing our flamingos, too. Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk. OMG! I totally forgot that I ordered this but I'm overjoyed that I did. I need a bottle of this STAT. I feared that Croquet was going to be a scary fruit scent, but instead it's creamy, citrus-y, warm yet refreshing, sweet and uplifting. The pink lime and pink grapefruit burst forth, kicking the senses into high gear. Sweet bits of nectarine start to peek out lending a creaminess to the citrus burst. The gorgeous sage note from Morella that I adore comes to warm this scent. The undercurrents of patchouli and musk ground this scent from being too bright. I can't stop sniffing my arm and my face looks like this ~~~~> The. Perfect. Spring. Scent. P.S. Please forgive the over use of emoticons, I'm just that flipping happy about this scent.

    Dorian

Dorian: The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself. Inspired by and created for my beloved Tedwin: my eternal, beautiful, wicked Dorian Gray. Refined, elegant, and lovely, with a noble bearing and seemingly gentle air. This blend is an artful deception: a sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea. First Impression: Sweet tea. Second Impression: Oh. My. God. This is like having a cup of strong but sweet tea laced with a hint of lemon in a posh Victorian parlor whilst sitting opposite a very civilised Victoran gentleman. And as soon as the maid serving the tea is gone, this proper Victoran gentleman fucks you six ways from Sunday. Final Analysis: Very sexy and sexual but at first sniff, oh so proper. This blend is gorgeous, a must try. Not too masculine that a woman couldn't pull off. Wear this and you will feel sexy.

    Senator Barrial

Senator Barrial in debate class, advocating for the mandatory conversion to electric cars by 2040. When she’s Senator, she’ll make sure everyone has red velvet sprinkle cupcakes with extra buttercream frosting. I thought this was going to be like Cake Smash. But it's a dead ringer for Milk Moon of old. This is soooooo reminiscent of the old school Lunacy days. Milk moon served with a side of cookies. Yeah, this is good. I want to age it out.

Clouds massing east of Eden: a rapidly darkening sky blasted by thundercrack of ozone, blast of cold, black rain, punctuated by a thin flicker of amber.

    A Complex, Wiggly Sigil

It glowed redly in the gloom, just for a moment, and then faded: blood-red ink, fiery pomegranate, and black oudh.

    Skyborn

“The Overlight, we called it. and it is by its colored rays that you will know your power, oh Skyborn child.” An otherworldly, iridescent shine, casked on-site at the Manifold Elixarium: opalescent lavenderine, sheer white musk, wild bergamot, iris, and white amber drifting on a pale cloud of Hearthwood Ash. As soon as we got to the Lab's booth at DragonCon, my BFF Donna (ivyandpeony) promptly dabbed my hand with the tester of this scent. WOWZA! This is going to be one sought after scent. I suggest getting two. It starts of with that lovely whiff of lavender. It's not sharp, soapy, or overly floral, just airy and comforting. Then the sheer musk takes flight, but held by a gossamer tether to the white resin and wood. A delicate floral perfume peeks out ever so gently as to keep you coming back for more. This is a scent to love and hoard. If you a lover or Ava, the Girl, and Lilith's Flowers, Butterflies, and Jewels Attending, you will adore this. It's not a copycat, Skyborn definitely has its own personality. I want to smell this on everyone. It's so youthful and hopeful. It's like on the site at time of this review. Go get it! https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/collaborations/skyborn/

I don’t belong here. A respectable, virtuous vintage musk smeared with blood and spiked with the coppery scent of fear.

They Shut Me Up in Prose

Loosed from the satin-pale corset, emerging from a gilded cage, that prison of silence: sweet bourbon vanilla, pale sandalwood, mallow flower, osmanthus, and shards of frankincense. They shut me up in Prose – As when a little Girl They put me in the Closet – Because they liked me “still” – Still! Could themself have peeped – And seen my Brain – go round – They might as wise have lodged a Bird For Treason – in the Pound – Himself has but to will And easy as a Star Look down upon Captivity – And laugh – No more have I – – Emily Dickinson

    Dragonsplaining

Well, actually…. Sweet aged patchouli interrupted by a cloud of cedar smoke. OMG This scent is so perfect for the title! I amp sweetness, even patchouli, but that cedar smoke is so pungent, that it blocks any sweetness coming through. This is super dry patchouli, none of the delicious chewy, ripe funk that I've come to love in BPALs patchouli. I may have to see if this Dragon mellows with age. Do men?

    Cinnamon girl...

Of all the imps I've tried so far (and am totally enamored with just about all of them) I find that I am attracted most to that cinnamon note in Harlot. I looked up cinnamon on the Lab's search and made a list of what came up...my question is, which ones are the most cinnamon-y? Thanks in advance to the noses that know!

    Voodoo Lily

Amorphallus, indeed. A breathtakingly exotic, wild, and grossly erotic spicy gold, purple-black, and burgundy lily. The word "amorphallus" makes me giggle. I know, I'm 12. At first Voodoo Lily reminds me of a lime jelly bean, but then it unfurls into a spicy gold and green floral confection. This scent is very fresh for spring, but it's also has a deep complexity that is leaving me flummoxed for an appropriate description. Voodoo Lily is indeed exotic and absolutely lovely.

    Mandrake

Also called Djinn’s Eggs and the Weed of Ill Omen. Distinctive bifurcations shape this magickal plant into the form of human men and women. It is believed that mandrake grows where the semen of a hanged man has fallen onto the earth, and that when it is plucked from the earth, the plant itself shrieks in agony: Alack, alack, is it not like that I, So early waking, what with loathsome smells, And shrieks like mandrakes' torn out of the earth That living mortals, hearing them, run mad. A plant of true arcane power, mandrake has been used in a multitude of ways by witches, magicians and thaumaturgists for eons to many, many vastly different ends. Whole pieces are carried for protection, or are used in poppet magick. Ground herb can be utilized in spells for money, lust or defense. The lore of the mandrake does not limit it to magickal use. The root was chewed as a simple anasthesia, and it has been widely employed as a sleep drug: CLEOPATRA: Ha, ha! Give me to drink mandragora. CHARMIAN: Why, madam? CLEOPATRA: That I might sleep out this great gap of time My Antony is away. The oil itself is quite viscous, more so than any other oil I've tried, except aged Snake Oil. The scent is really hard to describe. Earthy without smelling like dirt. Dusty sweet without being floral with a smooth herbiness that is making my mouth water. It reminds me of fresh thyme and cedar, only not as intense. If I had to compare to another scent, than the Dreamcatcher massage bar by LUSH would be it. It's been on my skin for over 30 minutes now and it's still shiny. This isn't perfumy in the least. It's really soothing and relaxing. Very unique, very addictive. I can't stop sniffing my hand.

    Amicitia

“We’ll be friends forever, won’t we, Pooh?” asked Piglet. “Even longer,” Pooh answered. A tribute to true friendship, and love that transcends distance and time: white sage and chaparral with sweet cedar, caramelized honey, warm fig, and carnation blossoms. I ordered an imp of this purely because of the Pooh quote because fig doesn't smell good on my skin (though I love it) and honey doesn't always work. So I figured together it would be a disaster. Well, wrong again. Came away with a bottle and may need a backup. Whenever I think of the perfect sage and cedar spa scent, this is what comes to mind. It's more warm than green. Centering, comforting. Very present. This is a beautiful scent that goes so well with the Pooh quote, it makes me teary as I sit here and contemplate it. The fig and carmelized honey lend such a golden glow of warmth without adding a foody quality. I can't stop sniffing it. This needs to be a room spray and a candle and a bath oil!!!
