    Violet Ray

I am a big violet fan so this of course was on my wish list to try. I love Nocturne, Le Serpent Qui Danse and Faith (i have bottles of each), but this one isn't doing it for me. The violet is there, but I think there's too much lilac coming through. I like lilac also, but not enough to seek it out as a note. Here it is sort of overpowering, so i feel bad for my precious violets. I don't smell anything minty (though agree with others on that "cold" feel that this has so maybe that could be the mint) or lavender. This is pretty, and kinda perfect for this rainy day, but not a bottle purchase for this violet-lover.

    Bruised Violet Compound

I love violets so of course this one was on my list to try. I might have tried reading the reviews first. It is a very masculine scent. It smells very cologne-y to me. I guess that's mostly because I get patchouli and moss from this. I wore it on a rainy day so it's almost fitting for that. Smells a little like the rain...damp and dark. There are no violets to be found on me.

    Penny Dreadful

Also called Gallows Literature. A dime novel rife with melodrama, horror, madness and cruelty; a ten cent analogy of vice and virtue in conflict. Soft perfume evocative of noir heroines over rich red grave loam. I think I picked this one up once I determined I liked the dirt scent -- probably after trying Deep in Earth. This is not my usual cup of tea, but neither is dirt, really. However, i do like this. I'm usually a feminine floral, foodie or fruity type. But this kind of reminds me of how Mme. Moriarty put a spell on me. I can't really pick out anything in particular other than dirt, but there are florals and spices in this. It's a dark scent for me. I could see myself choosing this over the Madame if I had just worn her recently. I don't think it's as good as she is, but just the type of mood it sort of inspires in me. Romantic, but gothic. I'm going to hold on to the imp and will determine later if i need a bottle.

    Beaver Moon 2005

This is for Beaver'versary. In the imp, it's that plastic fake chocolate scent that I hate. But oh how I love how scents morph. This calms down into an entirely too realistic chocolate frosting on vanilla cupcake scent. While I love foodie scents, it's not often that one actually makes me hungry. But this one does...like i said, it's too realistic. I feel like there is a hint of the dust note which tones this down to a subtle scent. In Myskatonic University, the dust is a little overpowering to me, but I feel like i get it in this blend only it's very light and really helps to bring this scent to life. I need to find a bottle!

    Egle

I really dislike aquatics. Maybe they all just go single note on me. This one smells no different than any of the others that i've tried. It smells like an ocean yankee candle. I enjoy those scents at times, but not as a perfume that I'd wear. More of an atmosphere scent, and even then, sometimes it can make me a little queasy. Of course, after a few minutes, it begins to morph. I get more of the hyacinth now. It's like petals floating on top of the ocean water. I have to say, after the initial wet, it does morph into something pretty. Still not my style though.

    Akuma

I don't think I get the blood orange scent...I do get neroli and raspberry. It is very light and delicate on me. I wouldn't be able to smell it if I didn't have my nose so close. I like fruity scents, but I think mixed with the neroli it turns into a pleasant powder. And when I say it fades fast, I mean FAST! It's been like 10 minutes and it's already nearly gone.

Dark Chocolate, Whiskey, and Cognac Truffle

On wet it's boozy chocolate. Smells like a cognac chocolate sauce, maybe with some cherries in there. Very realistic. On the dry down it morphs. You know how when you eat a chocolate truffle you don't get the chocolate flavor right away, you get a blast of something more subtle...maybe that's just me. That's how I feel this scent is. I get something delicate and soft and THEN i get the chocolate. Honestly, it smells very much like a match that's been blown out. I used to think I wasn't a chocolate person, though I am a foodie. But this one is really good. It fades pretty fast so it's not a bottle purchase.

    Boomslang

Like others, it's chocolate and snake oil. Unfortunately, I think the chocolate takes away from the snake oil. It kinda morphs the snake oil into something I don't really like. For some reason, I get something minty in this. Still no snake pits working for me. Not sure why since I love Snake Oil. I think it just does better on its own.

    Inganok Jewelers

Another Luper that just didn't work for me. It starts off very sharp and metallic, but it does fade a bit to become kinda floral on me. I agree that I also get a little leather in the mix. I'm finding that leather just isn't my thing. So while the toning down is a good thing, it's still not that great on me.

    Olisbos

Dust, leather and something citrus-y. It's very strong on the leather...very realistic. This just isn't my cup of tea.

    Bread-and-Butter-Fly

On first application, it smells like burnt toast. Not what I was hoping, but I thought maybe it would morph. It did...only into licorice! I mean, it's almost as bad as Pink Mood. Now, I'm not going to say I have the best nose out there -- i'm still a newb -- but I know licorice when I smell it and that's what this turned into. I was wondering if anyone else got that and it doesn't look like it. About an hour later and it's almost all gone. If i take a deep sniff, I think I get what the others are talking about -- a really pretty creamy tea. But it's barely there. And knowing i'd have to reapply and go through the licorice stage makes it not worth it.

    Cockaigne

This one was a lot like Miskatonic University, if you take out the main note of coffee and replace it with cake. They both have dusty paper quality to them. I really love MU but I don't really want to smell like coffee....i have no problem smelling like cake though! It smelled a little harsh to me in the imp, but I figured it would calm down a bit. It did, but I think it still keeps the general qualities of what you smell in the imp. This lasted a good while too. Probably about 4 hours later you'd still get some good whiffs of it. Even 6-8 hours later I felt like it lingered there a bit. Not convinced this is a bottle purchase, but I will probably keep the imp.

    Meliai

This is floral with more greenery than petals. The honey is barely there for me, but maybe just adds a touch of sweetness. The greenery dies down on the dry down and then it turns into a floral baby powerdy scent (but not straight up baby powder). Every once in a while, as it's dried, I'll get a whiff of sweet honey. I took a gamble because of the honey and while it's not offensive, it's nothing special either.

    Blackberry Jam & Scones

When I first put this on, it did not smell good. It smelled like burnt scones. It's like they went backwards in the cooking process. It soon went to a nicely baked scone. Then to the individual ingredients...on the dry down it's pretty much just blackberry jam. There is some scone-type batter mix in the background. But the blackberry is most prominent. If I judged this in the imp or first on, I would have hated it. But with it on for at least 30 min now it is definitely worth more. I'm not convinced it's a full bottle but i will snatch up a partial if i see it.

    The Zadok Allen Vineyard

On wet this smells really sharp, like bad cherry cough syrup. That dies down a bit when dry, and a deep, dusty plum comes out. I may amp dust, but it's a note I don't like so I will spot it pretty easily. This wine has something dusty in it. Further, it doesn't smell like wine much to me at all. It's much more sweet. Maybe like a lambrusco or sangria, it's not a cabernet. This isn't too boozy for me but I feel like it's there just a tad. I saw coffee in the notes....? Don't get any of that. Going to pass on this one.

    The Torture Queen

I don't really know what "chrome" smells like but I don't feel like i get a lot of metal out of this scent. I do agree that it is unisex though. With one sniff I feel like it is pretty and girly and floral and then with another I feel like it is masculine, sexy and like after shave. I saw a comparision to CKOne and I can see that though I haven't smelled it in years. It's very clean feeling, so when I say sexy, it's like that just got out of the shower sexy. I really like this but I don't love it enough to get a bottle. I'm going to have my husband try it and if it's great on him we'll get one. If I had a ton of money to spare, I'd pick up a bottle of this and use it every so often, but it's not jaw-droppingly good enough for me to get one. I think it's because it's a little too unisex musky for me. I like things a little more girly.

    TKO

I guess TKO is just like the reviews say. A light lavendar (lavendar is usually strong, i think. you can tell it's in this but it's nice and light) and creamy vanilla. But something doesn't work here. It's like the vanilla makes it spoil. I thought lavendar and vanilla would be weird together and they totally are. It's not a smell that makes me crinkle my nose (the way vetiver does), but it does have this subtleness to it that makes me slightly naseous. I definitely won't get a bottle. I might give the imp another few tries though to be sure.

    Enchanted Wood Florist

This is very floral but I also get a fruitiness to it. It's a sweet fruit, though, not citrus. Kinda peachy. It is very pretty and feminine. Has sort of that generic "perfume" smell to it but not in a bad way. Like a good perfume that you like. I can't pick out any of the floral notes and I'm not familiar with the notes listed. The grass isn't coming through for me. Unfortunately, this doesn't last very long. It pretty much disappears altogether. I will keep the imp but I won't bother with a bottle.

    Signior Dildo

I love violets and vanilla, so I thought for sure this would be a winner on me. It didn't smell like violets too much though. I could smell them in there, but this was more like lilac -- similar to penis admiration actually. After some hours on, you finally get to that vanilla note, but it is soooooooo light. I had to really get in there to smell it. And then is was completely gone. It must have to do with my skin chemistry, but Faith is amazing on me and this was just "eh." I wish my experience had been like some of the other reviews. If you like vanilla and violet, you're going to have to give this a try at least.

TAL Scent Recommendations/Comparing TAL Scents to BPAL

Temple of the Resurrected God smells really good. Also, Middle Pillar smells nice too. I tend to use it at night and it's a good comforting night scent. I haven't done actual reviews of these yet, but I will.

    Miskatonic University

Coffee, most prominently. Then dust. Funny that the dust note really does make me feel sneezy, though I never do sneeze. I guess that would be conditioning, since the dust isn't actually there. Weird. Anyway, if you like coffee scents, you have to give this one a try. I think I tried it because someone said it was creamy, which I like. But I don't really like coffee too much. I guess I wanted more Irish in there. Throw is decent and it sticks around for a while. I'm at 2 hours since putting it on and it still smells pretty strong (as if it's still wet). Overall, this smells good, but isn't right for me.

    Anactoria

Anactoria is super perfumey on my skin. I'm not doing a side by side comparison, but it seems like it smells like the "heady womanly perfume" that is being covered up by the bubblegum in Jailbait. That is exactly how I would describe it. While I find this scent interesting when mixed with the bubblegum in Jailbait, I'm not too fond of wearing it alone. It doesn't feel that unique to me. It is musky and not as sexy as I thought it would be. I'll stick with Smut and O for sexy.

    Persephone

This is much more pomegranate than it is rose so if you like fruity scents, but are wary of rose, you might be surprised by this. On the other hand, if you like traditional floral rose, this might be disappointing. Luckily, I like both. Going on, the fruit scent is a little weird, like bubblegum, but it tones down quickly and smells more fresh and real. The weird thing is that it tends to go dusty. If you take a big whiff after it has settled, it's fruit and then dust. Throw seems strong and it sticks around for a few hours.

    Thalia

I do love me some pear. Yesterday was Bon Vivant -- strawberry and champagne -- so today is Pear and Champagne. Funny how that worked out. This is more of a floral pear than a boozey pear on me. Very sweet and feminine. Definitely makes me think of wearing a cotton sun dress and standing out in the summer breeze. Unfortunately, my skin must hate peach and pear -- two of my favorite notes! I can't get any of them to last on me much longer than an hour. And the throw is only about 3 inches from where I put it on. Sad.

White Chocolate, Black Raspberry, and Apricot Cordial Truffle

Wow, this is really strong fruit. It's definitely an apricot/blackberry mix. Frankly, I don't get any white chocolate from this. It does smell maybe a bit too strong...like a little fake/plastiky. I'm having a lot of trouble with this. I keep wanting to smell my arm, but it's a little more like i'm interested in it instead of just wanting to smell it like the scents that I love. I'm really undecided. I might have to try to do this as a day long test. I like fruity scents so that's why this SHOULD be good for me, but there's something missing. If you like fruits, you have to try this one.
