    Q&A - Switch Witch 2014

*** Pinterest | Etsy | Amazon | ThinkGeek *** 1. I wonder what a potential witchee would think about being bombarded with PUMPKINS in various formats. Because my current obsession just may last long enough to be of use in spoiling.....but I know wouldn't be appreciated by everyone. Would you appreciate it?!? I've never even tried much pumpkin stuff, so I wouldn't mind receiving a pumpkiny thing or two, but maybe not a whole bombardment (just in case I don't like it so much). 2. I currently have a CSA and my significant other is perpetually out of town for work, so I've been doing a lot of canning and baking with my vegetables. How do people feel about canned good (pickles, salsa, etc) and vegetal baked goods (squash bread, zucchini bread). I love pickles! Heavy to ship though. 3. Trading Post wants? I haven't bought anything from the Post in ages. I'd love to try some more hair glosses - the honey is the only kind I've tried so far. 4. What direct sellers do you not like and would prefer not to get things from? And also feel free to list any retail brands you really don't like. I'm not really into Avon (I'm quite particular about makeup in general) but I love the Mary Kay eye makeup remover, and I would be delighted if I was sent that. I have Tupperware out the wazoo, and while all those party plan candles and homewares are nice, I'm pretty anti-clutter and don't really need anything. 5. How about y'alls coffee and tea preferences? I personally barely touch coffee, except for a very occasional espresso after a meal out. Husband is intensely pro-coffee though, so if my witch has a favourite local bean s/he'd like to send, it certainly wouldn't go unloved. My favourite drink is a subtly flavoured black tea - I especially love Earl Grey or citrusy blends. My former witch Arlith also once sent me a set of the Disney Alice in Wonderland tea blends, and the Mad Tea Party blend is pretty much my favourite thing ever. 6. Do you cook? Would kitchen accessories make you happy? I love to cook, and I find kitchen gadgetry delightful. 7. How do people feel about creative endeavours? Would you like to receive one? Or supplies to make your own? What do you like? Drawings, stories, poems? Absolutely! Supplies or finished works would be lovely. Anything that my witch was inspired to create - whether artwork, writing, craft, whatever - would be a wonderful gift. 8. What culture or country (doesn’t have to be modern) do you feel an innate connection with? What about it makes it special to you? I love everything German and Austrian. Other than my homeland, this is the only part of the world I could ever entertain the idea of living in permanently. I don't know exactly what it is - I just feel comfortable and happy there. I'm not sure I subscribe to the idea of past lives, but if there is such a thing, I shouldn't be surprised if I'd spent several as a Teutonic lass. 9. Is there any sort of art commission you would like: cartoony, pin-up, fantasy, realistic, etc? If so, what subject would you like drawn (a picture of you, a character, a loved one or pet)? A fun pic of my kiddo or pets might be nice! If my witch is an artist, any style s/he prefers to work in is fine with me. 10. What do you find yourself doing for fun in your free time? What are your main hobbies and interests? Mostly reading and some form of art or craft. I sew, do embroidery and cross stitch, knit, crochet, paint, draw. I've done mosaics, silversmithing, ceramics... basically, if it involves some form of creative expression, I will have a crack at it. 11. Table-top gaming? If yes, what kind, edition, etc? Gaming accessories you long for? I bet I'd like it, but I've never had the opportunity to play. I guess there just aren't enough geeks in my life 12. DVD movies or games that you wish would magically appear in your hands? Can they be used, through Amazon? I have a few on my Amazon wishlist. I would also really like the DVD of The Crimson Petal and the White, which I think is on Amazon UK. Used is perfectly fine, and our Blu Ray plays multi-region so any region code is fine. 13. What kind of snacks or candy from other countries/states would you like to try? I'd be game for pretty much anything that isn't licorice or banana flavoured. My witch probably well and truly got the point from my questionnaire, but I really do detest banana 14. Do you have a favorite internet meme, character or pop culture fandom? Moon Moon 4 ever. 15. Do you have a Facebook profile (or other social media) that you are comfortable linking to aid your witch in stalking? Please note whether you are willing to add BPALers as friends. This is my FB. I'm very happy to friend BPAL folks. 16. Anybody interested in something from RCCC, whether it's con-exclusive merch or from a particular exhibitor or artist? I've never been to a con. I'm not really into comic books or anything (I don't dislike them, I just didn't grow up with them). There's nothing in particular I'm seeking, but a cool art print or something would certainly be welcome. 17. How important to you is regular contact / chatter with your witch? I enjoy contact with my witch, and have made some great friendships through SW. However, if my witch (or witchee) prefers more minimal contact or even wishes to remain completely anonymous, I'm more than happy to respect their wishes. As Flyby touched on, some participants enjoy the fun of spoiling a stranger with gifts, but due to introversion or social anxiety or a hectic work life or whatever, just aren't up for an email friendship. And that's fine in my book. The ringleaders do their best to match us all up with somebody whose contact preferences align with our own, but since they are also constrained by issues like needing to find enough international shippers for international witches and whatnot, it may not always be possible to get this spot on. I know there have been a few of the more ninja witches in past rounds who were actually quite upset by their witchees complaining in-thread about not being contacted enough, so I think it's really important for us all to try and be as understanding as we can about this issue. 18. Do you like puzzles/riddles/treasure hunts and that sort of thing? Oh yeah, this kind of thing is fun! 19. If you were to receive music, would you want a physical CD or digital versions? Either is fine. Digital is probably easiest, but a physical CD is great too. 20. What’s a current problem/annoyance you have that could be remedied but you haven’t had time to address it? Erm... my wardrobe is crammed to the gills because I'm to lazy to clean it out and donate the stuff I don't wear to a charity shop? I don't think my witch can do much about that though 21. How do you feel about having some sort of trinket to carry around for good luck/wishes? i.e. a small figurine, symbol, card, coin… I like this! My witch last time, mimosa (who I hope did manage to scrape into this round!) sent me a little glass 'lucky duck' and a witch stone, both of which I carry around sometimes when I feel like I need a little boost of luck or protection. 22. Are you superstitious about anything? Any things you can't have in your house for that reason--bad associations? Not a superstition exactly, but I find masks (the displayed kind, not the worn kind) a bit creepy. My SIL collects Venetian carnival masks and I always feel like they're watching me. 23. For the vegetarians and vegans: How do you feel about things (say, marshmallows or gummy candy) made with vegan gelatin or other typically-animal-derived-but-not-in-this-instance products? This would be pefectly fine. 24. Ok, so we've covered pumpkin. How do you feel about the other fall classic – apples? I love apple things! 25. Do you have any fabric or skin-contact aversions? Not really, though I'm not a fan of angora unless it's in some way certified as cruelty-free, and I really don't like the idea of fur or sheepskin. 26. How do you feel about Christmas/Yule ornaments? Great, I love decorating for Christmas 27. How do you feel about Hello Kitty, and Hello Kitty accessories (including mugs, cups, etc)? I don't dislike Hello Kitty, but I'm not a particular fan either. 28. If you had a week free where you could learn anything, with no financial restrictions, what would you want to study? Most likely another language or a musical instrument (assuming this fantasy is not hampered by the fact I'm uncoordinated and unmusical). ETA: Wait, yodeling! For some reason I would love to be able to yodel, I just find it awesome and hilarious. Of course, unlikely, since I can't even normal-sing, but again, this is fantasy football right? 29. Do you enjoy poetry? Who are your favorite poets and what type of subject matter do you like? I like William Carlos Williams, Pablo Neruda and Les Murray. ETA: Oh, and Edgar Allen Poe. And I like Sarah Kay's performance poetry as well - I first saw the TED video of her poem 'If I should have a daughter' right after I actually had my daughter, and it made me cry rather unattractively. 30. Would you enjoy receiving something related to a favorite Disney character? Yes, especially NMBC - I'd love one of the Jack Skellington mugs. 31. How do you feel about cute things as decorations or accessories? (Example: Would you enjoy this stationery - or do you prefer elegant/creepy/neutral stuff?) Kawaii/manga stuff is generally not really my thing, but I do like cute things. For stationery I'd probably be more likely to use something fairly minimalist. 32. What is something you'd really like to recieve from your witch? Please be as specific as possible - no, "Oh whatever she thinks is fine!" I'm sorry if this is still a bit vague, but it really does depend to a large extent on my witch's interests and talents. The most fun SW gifts are often the ones that are handmade, their own artwork or just something personal chosen with real care. Some of my favourite gifts from SW so far have been a hand-knitted hat from Tartchef, a favourite record from millicurie, an adorable amigurumi bee from Arlith (which now belongs to my daughter), handmade glass jewelry from carwoman, an adpoted elephant (!!!) from ellebelle (and she also sent me a series of her absolutely beautiful photographic prints - seriously, witches, take ellebelle up on her offer and send your witchees her photos, you won't be sorry), and the local charms I mentioned earlier from mimosa. It's been said before many a time, but the nicest thing about SW really is the connections and the little glow that comes with knowing someone has gone to such trouble to make your day. 33. Go to your music source of choice - on random or shuffle setting if possible - & share with us the 10 most recent songs/artists. Fall at Your Feet - Clare Bowditch (Crowded House cover) Gravity - The Superjesus Cigarettes - Illy Lost in Green Eyes - The Panics 6 Underground - Sneaker Pimps Fear of Flying - Dan Sultan Simon Says - The Wiggles (thanks, toddler) Listen to the Music - Doobie Brothers Mad World - Gary Jules Cash in My Pocket - Wiley 34. Tarot cards, rune stones and/or other divination tools yay or nay? I have an awesome tarot set (8 bit tarot) from my former witch millicurie. I can't think of any other form of divination I'm especially interested in, though I do harbour fantasties of having my palm read by a wise old Roma woman at a carnival 35. Do you have a Celeb crush? or someone who you just can't get enough of....other than your SO I am, on the whole, pretty uninterested in celebrities, and kind of find the internet's obsessive devotion to particular ones a bit baffling. I would allow both Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston to pass by me in the street completely unmolested, no lie. 36. Glitter? are you okay with it, or hate it like the plague? Glitter's fine. I don't want to be bathed in it, but stuck-down stuff's pretty okay. 37. If there was another time period other than now that described your style/aesthetics, what would it be? Early 20th century would be pretty ideal, I think. Stylish, civilised enough for indoor plumbing to exist, and before the world wars. 38. If you had to pick one or two quotes to live by, what would it be and why? Comparison is the thief of joy. 39. Do you prefer physical books? CD books? eBooks? If eBooks do you have preferred format, kindle/nook/kobo/PDF/ePub/ect? eAudio? These days, e-books are more likely to get read quickly - I have a 40min train commute (each way) to and from work each day, which is when I get all my reading done. I still have a fondness for physical books too, though. I read on my iPad mini, so ePub I guess? But I also have the Kindle iPad app, so I guess I can read in Kindle format too, though I haven't tried it yet. I've never bought an audio book because most of the ones I'm interested in seem so expensive to buy, and I'm not willing to make that investment without knowing if I'd even like it (listening to books instead of reading them, I mean). 40. Smut! Yes or no? If yes, what kink, er, kind? Take or leave, I guess? I'm not prudish about it, but I find a lot of romance and erotica to be embarrassingly badly written. If it's done well it's enjoyable. 41. Ebooks! Yes or no? Yes. 42. If you were to get a custom bottle from House of Gloi made for you what notes would create your perfect blend? I don't know! There's some weird kind of alchemy involved, evidently, because the likes of Beth can take a bunch of things that don't even necessarily sound that pleasant and the result is sublime. Any of the win notes in my ?naire or forum profile are a good starting point I think, and beyond that I'm game for being surprised. 43. If your witch were to take a photograph (or paint or whatever) of something just for you, what would it be? Landscape? Flower? Critter? Something to illustrate a favorite quote? Probably critter or something urban - cool street art or an interesting architectural feature? Beyond that I like candid photography of people who just look interesting or intriguing. 44. What is your favorite Halloween animal or other symbol/decoration? Are Halloween dragons a thing? Can we make them a thing? I really like dragons. Or black cats are cool, too. 45. Makeup, especially of the indie variety. Nail polish, nail wraps, eyeshadow, lipstick/gloss, etc. Y/N? Specific preferences (color, finish, product, brand, etc.)? Yes, with the disclaimer that the fewer toxic things it contains - siloxanes, bismuth, petrochemicals, BHA - the happier I'd be, and I always prefer products that are as cruelty-free as possible. 46. How do you feel about profanity and off-color humor? Profanity is fine, I'm a total potty mouth. As for off-colour humour, it depends in what way it's off-colour I guess? Toilet humour doesn't particularly appeal, and anything that belittles or 'others' unecessarily I wouldn't find funny (racist or homophobic jokes, for example). If it's just kind of irreverent humour, that definitely appeals. 47. I make hairsticks...would you like/use them? I've never owned any, but I like them and my hair is probably approaching long enough now. 48. Does anyone here LARP? If so, what kind of LARP? And what kind of character do you play? A lady never LARPs in public. 49. Would you completely freak out if I sent you a chocolate covered scorpion or some other food oddity? This includes things like 'bacon powder' from thinkgeek.com. Freak out, no... but I don't think I'd eat it either. Bacon powder sounds pretty repulsive to be honest 50. This has kind of been covered, but, are you ok with receiving canned jam (from a veteran jammer!) and if so, what flavors would you like and not like? Yes, and anything but banana. 51. Let's talk nail polish. What colors do you love? Hate? Which brands are you dying to try? Have you ever used indies? Do you like glitter? Any textures to avoid (glitter, sand, etc)? I love nail polish, but I'm also an expert-level nail breaker. Hence my nails are usually too short and/or trashed to bother painting. I like the look of the glitter ones, but I also find that removing them wrecks the surface of my nails so I tend to mostly avoid them. 52. How do you feel about getting a special Halloween plushie? That would be cute. 53. I'm in Japan, anything specific you might want from the land of the rising sun? I love the beautiful decorative papers you can get from Japan. ETA: Ooh! Ooh! And washi tape! I would LOVE some washi tape. 54. Are there any GC scents that you know you love, but for whatever reason, keep putting off buying bottles of? I think my wishlist is up to date in this regard. The other possibility is backups for some of my loved GCs, such as Morocco or Lyonesse, to guard against the horror of future discons. 55. I know not everyone likes Lush products, but if you do, which Lush items would you like to get from your Witch? I haven't tried that many of their products, but I know that I do like their bar soaps (esp. Honey I Washed the Kids and the two citrusy ones I don't recall the name of) and that I'm not especially fond of the hair treatments or shampoo bars. 56. Is there anywhere (in the US) that you are dying to get away to? Also when would you be able to get away. Would this even be something you were interested in? If so, go look at the Southwest sale for routes and dates and times. I assume this question doesn't apply to me, as it would take a truly obscene number of flyer miles to get me anywhere in the US 57. If you are ok with receiving t-shirts, what size are you, do you prefer tissue tees, normal crew tees, babydoll etc? I prefer babydoll / girly cuts, and usually take a M unless it's cut very small in the bust, in which case L. 58. THINKGEEK! Who loves it - do you have a wishlist on there?? What are some things you are jonesing for on there for under $20? I actually haven't looked at ThinkGeek for quite a while. I'll take a look and come back to update this if I see anything interesting. ETA: Okay, I updated my wishlist - it's here. 59. Zombies, yes or no? Not so much. Though I'm in favour of zombunnies. 60. Would you like arm warmers/fingerless gloves? If so, what length? just beyond the wrist, almost to the elbow, full sleeves? Yes, this would be good. Um, probably wrist or elbow length would be best. 61. Do you feel a particular affinity for a specific animal/s? Bees. 62. Anyone have any Paintbox Soapworks loves? I love pretty much all PBSW products - both the glycerin and the hot process soaps, the scrubs, the lotions, all of it. I'd be especially glad to try anything in the recent LE The Bee's Lament fragrance. 63. How would you feel if your witch or a minion of your witch showed up in person at your house with goodies? Thrilled? Annoyed? Completely creeped out? I can't see a great likelihood of this occurring in the circumstances, but I think I'd be okay with it. As long as my witch is ot too put out by domestic chaos and disorder. 64. Do you have a ravelry account? Tell me about your yarn obsessions. I am HumanFemale on Ravelry, but my yarny pursuits have taken a backseat in recent times as I've been on a cross stitch and embroidery tear. Yarn wise, I like cotton and supersoft merino best (oh and of course all the insanely expensive stuff like alpaca and cashmere blends). I knit mostly with 8 - 10 ply (worsted weight is the equivalent I think?). 65. Sock Dreams, yay or nay? Yay! I made a pretty big list of stuff I like in last round's SW help, which is still in a blog post somewhere. 66. Knitted items like scarves, shawls, dishclothes....yay or nay? Favorite fibers? Favorite colors? Yes please! Cotton would be good for wearables (even winter doesn't get too incredibly cold here). Colours... I can wear pretty much anything except maroon/burgundy, which makes me look like a reanimated corpse. I really like grey for wintery things. 67. Is your Amazon WL up-to-date? Yes, even the stuff I added ages ago I still covet. 68. If you were to receive handmade caramels, would it matter if they were made with raw cream (unpasteurized)? Yeah, that's no issue for me. 69. Would you enjoy getting a sampling of quality incense taken from various sources? Are there types of incense you know you don't like? Would you want a burner for loose incense and a few charcoals to get you started with that, or would you rather stick to simpler types? I haven't burned incense since I was about 16 I think! I wouldn't necessarily be averse to trying a little sampling though. 70. I know we already had a question about needed kitchen accessories, but what about spices? If my witch is US based, I would appreciate chipotle powder as it's not so easy to get hold of here. 71. Would you like handmade stationary or cards? How about a quill pen? That sounds lovely! 72. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "gimme that ghost pepper!" and 1 being "oh, that's a bit too much black pepper for me" Where is your heat tolerance? I'd say about an 8? I have very good heat tolerance, but I don't seek out heat for its own sake - I like to still be able to taste other flavours in the dish! 73. What is your favorite type of Halloween candy? I'm not actually sure? I have tried candy corn and found it to be a chalky-textured abomination. But the American grocery store here stocks Zachary brand, and judging from thread comments in past Weenie SW rounds, it seems like Brach's is where it's at. Maybe I just had an unfortunate brush with low-brow candy corn. A former witch once organised a trick-or-treat box for me which had Peeps ghosts in it, they were good. 74. Do you need or want any cosy footwear, like fluffy slippers, or slipper socks etc? I love fuzzy bedsocks! 75. What do you most look forward to each Fall? Just the cooler weather, really, summer can be brutal here. I love the golden quality of afternoon sunlight in autumn and taking my daughter to muck around in the leaves. 76. What gadgets do you use in your everyday life and would you like a cool case for them - with your favourite fandom or artwork or saying? I actually don't really need cases - the things I use on a regular basis are an iPhone and an iPad mini, and I already have cases for both of them. I could use a little zippered pouch or something for the iPad mini, though - I keep it in my handbag to read ebooks on the train, and it would be good to have a little extra protection for it in case something leaks in my handbag. 77. Are there any beauty accessories you need or would like? For example make-up brushes, facial brushes or eyelash curlers. I have a couple of things on my mental list of 'stuff to buy sometime' - a MAC 219 brush, and I've been coveting the ModelCo heated eyelash curler for awhile. I could also use a better kabuki brush, I don't really like the one I have currently. 78. Would you be disappointed to get one big box, or would you prefer a bunch of little ones? And would you be disappointed if your witch actually had it together early and sent it to you sooner than later? One big box is fine if that's easiest for my witch. I think a reveal near the end of the round would be fun as it keeps the fun of guessing alive for longer, but if it's easier for my witch to send/reveal early, that's fine. 79. Stores are putting out their halloween PJs and undies! Would you be happy to get any in a package? And if so, what size? For PJ pants, do you like cotton or flannel? I can always use PJs - cotton, preferably. Probably an M, or an L if they're close fitting. 80. Do you like M&Ms? Yes, I prefer the ones with things in them to the plain ones. 81. How about wax melts? I like them, but I'm not super into excessively foodie fragrances. 82. Would you like a subscription for Spotify? I tend to use Pandora, or just purchase the songs I want on iTunes. 83. What scents from the Lillith update would you like to try? I haven't been tempted by an update in awhile, but there's actually several that sound good. The most likely winners are Venustas and Mini Magdalene , but I'd also be interested to try Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha, Hearts for Ghost Friends, The Hierophant and the Empress, Mermaid and Avunculus. 84. Would you be interested in receiving a box of sugar cube skulls? I kinda would! These are pretty cool. 85. Skin care routine? Fave cleanser? Toner? Moisturizer? What about body lotions? Any particular brand or scent? Lip balms? Yay or nay? Alas, the stuff I like best is expensive. Dermalogica cleansers, I love the toner from Natural Logic on Etsy, and Shiseido moisterisers. I like the body lotions from Paintbox Soapworks. Lip balms, I prefer the stick kind over pots. 86. Is there anything you would like from Salem MA (mugs, keychains, postcards, etc.or witchy supplies like incense, candles, books)? Maybe a postcard? 87. Would you be interested in any of the items in LisaNut's etsy shop? The fall hat is pretty. 88. Spiders (as in cute knit kind) yes or no? I don't mind spiders. 89. Pillows (the mostly decorative type)? I actually just bought some! 90. Any kind of bags - big, small, medium, purse, grocery, etc? I can always use grocery bags, especially the kind the fold up into a little pouch so I can carry them around in my handbag. 91. Is there anything special coming up in your life? My daughter's second birthday in a couple of weeks. I have to try and make a Buzzbee cake, wish me luck! 92. Which one scent would you want from each of the following updates: Metamorphosis, Lilith and GC? Hmm. Unsniffed, I can't split it between Little Metalmark and Red Spotted Purple for Metamorphosis, so either of those. Mini-Magdalene from Lilith, and basically any GC on my wishlist. 93. Are you interested in anything from NYCC? Nothing in particular I can think of, but that's mainly because I'm not that familiar with cons and don't really know what one might find there. 94. Would something from the Tokyo Game Show (e.g. postcards, fans) possibly interest you? As above! I can always use cute postcards. 95. Would you enjoy any of these couple rings? Or anything from the same store's Halloween collection? The couple rings are cool, but Himself would not wear one. He barely tolerates his wedding band. I really like the Firefly 'Big Damn Hero' keychain though. 96. If you imbibe at all ... preference between: wine/beer/cocktails and then glassware and/or bar-ware? cocktail gadgetry? Books on the subject/recipes? would you want sample bottles of local/regional/small batch craft spirits if they were home decanted and labeled? I assume this question is not so much directed at the likes of me, but I will answer anyway. Red wine, Bloody Marys and gin and tonics are my drinks of choice, but I don't do a great deal of drinking (generally only if we have friends over for dinner or something like that). I don't really have a need for cocktail books or recipes. 97. Would you like some chai, lemon, rose water or other flavored sugar cubes? Sure, a sampling would be nice to try. 98. Jamberry nail wraps? Probably not, I'm not careful enough with my nails! 99. If you had to choose one currently available book (used-but-obtainable counts if you do used) costing $20 or under for your Witch to buy for you, what would it be? You pick, witch! Send me a copy of your favourite book. 100. Are there five things under $25 at Birchbox you would like? Hmm. This, this, this, this aaand... this. 101. Do you want anything from the Fatherhood update at the Post? A Moment in Time sounds solidly wonderful, and Flying Kites and Playing Tag in a Garden Full of Gods both have potential. 102. Street art! Into it? Not into it? Meh? Love it! 103. If you could only pick one note that you love (e.g. Vanilla, Orange, Lavender, Rose) & you could only wear/have perfume, etc in that note, what would it be? Vanilla-infused beeswax. Haha, I cheated! 104. What are you interested in from the NYCC exclusive list? One Pale Woman, Lips of Flame and Heart of Stone, Little Maggie, and the Green Apple/Bergamot/Vanilla Orchid/Tiare hair gloss sound the most interesting. 105. Most anticipated 'Weenie blends? I'm reasonably safe from the Weenies this year, though I'd be interested in Autumn - Overlooked My Knitting. 106. Caffeine or no? And is this a health or preference? I'm not averse to it, but I do try to limit my consumption. I happily drink tea and the occasional coffee, but I never touch 'energy' drinks. 107. Are you interested in anything from the MAC Rocky Horror or the e.l.f. Disney Princess make up collections? Pretty much all the Rocky Horror lipstick shades look awesome. I'm not really into Disney princesses though. 108. I pass this shop every day, If you were my witchee would you like a custom chocolate bar? What would you choose?Plain, white or milk and with what? Lets see... 55% dark, with coconut flakes and whole caramelized hazelnuts. Or milk with speculoos and crystallised ginger pieces. Or milk with praline and cardamom. Or 55% dark with earl grey tea and crystallised lemon peel. I might be a little too into this question. 109. Would you like to try chocolate covered Turkish Delight or flower flavoured things (Rose and Violet chocolates)? Yes! I love Turkish Delight in all forms, and flowery chocolates sound worth a try.
  2. Questions posted in the SW chatter thread (in order oldest to newest) 1. I wonder what a potential witchee would think about being bombarded with PUMPKINS in various formats. Because my current obsession just may last long enough to be of use in spoiling.....but I know wouldn't be appreciated by everyone. Would you appreciate it?!? 2. I currently have a CSA and my significant other is perpetually out of town for work, so I've been doing a lot of canning and baking with my vegetables. How do people feel about canned good (pickles, salsa, etc) and vegetal baked goods (squash bread, zucchini bread). 3. Trading Post wants? 4. What direct sellers do you not like and would prefer not to get things from? And also feel free to list any retail brands you really don't like. 5. How about y'alls coffee and tea preferences? 6. Do you cook? Would kitchen accessories make you happy? 7. How do people feel about creative endeavours? Would you like to receive one? Or supplies to make your own? What do you like? Drawings, stories, poems? 8. What culture or country (doesn’t have to be modern) do you feel an innate connection with? What about it makes it special to you? 9. Is there any sort of art commission you would like: cartoony, pin-up, fantasy, realistic, etc? If so, what subject would you like drawn (a picture of you, a character, a loved one or pet)? 10. What do you find yourself doing for fun in your free time? What are your main hobbies and interests? 11. Table-top gaming? If yes, what kind, edition, etc? Gaming accessories you long for? 12. DVD movies or games that you wish would magically appear in your hands? Can they be used, through Amazon? 13. What kind of snacks or candy from other countries/states would you like to try? 14. Do you have a favorite internet meme, character or pop culture fandom? 15. Do you have a Facebook profile (or other social media) that you are comfortable linking to aid your witch in stalking? 3. *** Pinterest | Etsy | Amazon *** Are you interested in anything from the Haus of Gloi yule update on November 3rd? Which products and which scents? The Gingerbread and Rosy Cheeked scents sounded nice. And I also like the sound of the tinted lipbalm, but only if it comes in a stick/tube rather than a pot. I can't be dealing with slimy pink fingers. How do you feel about nail polish? If you like it, are there any brands or colors in which you are interested? I like it a lot, but my passion for collecting awesome colours of glimmery sparkly nail polish has proven incompatible with my complete unwillingness to care for my nails. They are usually too split, ripped and generally bodgy to bother applying nail polish, and thus my glorious collection remains tragically underused. What about makeup? What brands do you prefer and which products would you most enjoy receiving? My tastes veer to the pricy side of the spectrum unfortunately. My favourite brands are Benefit, Stila and Nars, and Dior for lipcolour. I like mineral makeup also. Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. The only one I have tried is Snow Glass Apples. It was good, I'd happily try more from them (as long as it doesn't contain whole berries / seeds - see answer to gardening question below). Do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? Nope, nope and nope. Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Judith and Holofernes, Celeste, Hermia. Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? YEZ! I love Tarty's stuff! I love pretty much all her soaps, and I'd love to try her goat milk creams or solid scent balms too. Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? Yes! I like to grow edible things mainly. Right now I'm growing tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries and herbs - oregano, sage, rosemary, coriander (cilantro), Italian parsley and basil. Caveat: sending seeds to Australia is very, very frowned upon (we are very protective of our agricultural industry, and pathologically fear the introduction of pests/diseases/noxious plant species from overseas) and they would most likely be confiscated and destroyed. Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Sure I like 'em! Any store I've mentioned liking or that I have a wishlist for would be great. Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!! ? This, in a carpark yesterday. Name five small things you could use, but might not think to get for yourself? Oh golly gee... I'm crap at thinking of these, because if I could ever remember the list of little doodads I need to get, I'd probably have gone and got them, y'know? I could use a couple of the fine point Sharpies - not the marker kind, the fine-tip pen kind? The only other thing I can think of is that I love buttons (the holding-your-clothing-shut kind, not the "VOTE 1 JEFFREY P. FUCKNUCKLE FOR WEST FARTSTON TOWN COUNCIL" kind*). I keep big jars of them on my desk. Partly for using in craft projects and partly just for gazing lovingly at. _______ * Though if you do actually find a button that says "VOTE 1 JEFFREY P. FUCKNUCKLE FOR WEST FARTSTON TOWN COUNCIL", I totally want it. Is there anything from a farmer's market you might like? I like most things they sell at farmers markets, but no specific needs come to mind. Do you have any upcoming away time I should be aware of, for shipping purposes? Umm... I'm possibly going up to the outlaws' place (in the country, but only 3 hours away) for a couple of days next week. I'm feeling resilient, so I should survive two days in close quarters with the MIL. Maybe. Would you like anything from Sock Dreams? I love ALL THE SOCK DREAMS THINGS! I would like ballerinas or bees or dandelions and limes or wallpaper or peacocks or poker or purple or clouds or OMFG manatees!! or le chat noir or swallows or cheeky french maidy looking things or elephants or more of these awesome argyles that my former witch ellebelle gave me or rainbows or moar bees or octopi or helloooo, sailor or ruffles or beetlejuice or starbursts or stripeys or other stripeys or chevrons (in part because they actually managed to use the term chevron correctly, glory be!). Or these arm warmers. Haha! Bet you're sorry you asked. Are you okay with semi-spicy foods right now? I'm thinking like curry or chipotle? If you were to choose a chili powder would you go Hot, Medium, or Mild? Yes, yes... all your spicy fudz are belong to me. Srsly, I eat so much spice that my kid must have built up a tolerance during my pregnancy, because I don't know of many other one year olds who will steal bean chili off your plate. As for hot/medium/mild, I enjoy all of the above. I like the hot stuff, but sometimes just a little zing is nice too. If you were this mystery witch's witchee, would you be interested in Spoonfudge (http://www.spoonfudge.com/) or any other such "ordered online" sweet? I've never had it, but I'd be glad to try it. If I didn't like it, the man of the house almost certainly would. Also - Double checking everyone's baked goods status. Home-made baked goods or other food stuffs OK? Yes in principle, but in practice the shipping times make it difficult. Is there anything you'd like from Lush, witchee? I haven't tried a lot of Lush products, but I do know I like their citrusy-scented soaps - Karma I think the one is called, can't remember the other. If you like earrings, what kind? Dangly earrings, hoops, studs - what kind do you like? How long do you like your necklaces? Or would you prefer to just get a pendent, so you can size the chain yourself? I think I covered this in my questionnaire - I'm not wearing earrings just at the moment, and I like necklaces that sit anywhere between garotte and cleavage-dangling length. If I were your witch and were to paint you something, what would you absolutely love, what would you feel ambivalent toward, and what would you not like to see or receive? I'm not really into a lot of fantasy art - I like Brian Froud's goblins a whole lot, but those ethereal fairy paintings (Stephanie Pui Mun Law et al) are not my style. My art and design boards on Pinterest show the kind of stuff I like. I'd love anything inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Witchee, would you like a set of Cards Against Humanity? A thousand times yes! Are there any craft project/s you are working on now that you need supplies for? Or rather, is there a craft project you've been wanting to do but need stuff to start? I constantly have craft projects on the go (often several at one time). There's nothing specific I need right now, exactly, but I can always use pure wool felt, DMC embroidery threads, evenweave linen fabric for stitching, glass seed beads... What do you think of hair sticks? Would you like a set? They are lovely, but I just cut my hair and it would be too short to do anything with them right now. Of course, if my witch makes such things I'd be delighted to receive a set anyway and keep them around for when my hair's grown out again. Is there anything you'd really like to have/try from Trader Joe's, or any other popular-but-not-available-everywhere store? I keep hearing talk of this cookie butter... Would you rather have something fun or practical? I lean more toward practicality these days - I'm very anti-clutter, so I like things to either be beautiful or have a purpose if I'm going to keep them around. Witchee, are you in need of any particular spices? Again, if you are a US based witchy, chipotle powder would be very handy. It is not widely stocked here and I like to use it quite a bit. Table Games - do you play them? If so, which ones, and which versions, and are there any goodies you might like related to them? OMG witch, if you are in the US and you sent me Cards Against Humanity, I would love you foreverandeverandever, no lies. I've wanted it for ages but it doesn't ship internationally from Amazon (I could just print the free PDF, but I want the *proper* ones, dammit). If you were my witchee, would you be interested in anything from my store or something similar? (Nut-made by LisaNut on etsy.) This looks like nice stuff, but it's not really the season for woollens here at the moment. Say your witch works at a used bookstore. what kinds of things might you like from there? cool old pulp fiction paperbacks? tarot cards? (we have those.) a dr who pen? books about haunted cemeteries in seattle? you may have all of these things:) oh, and also movies. and cds. Anything unusual and interesting from a place like that is bound to be cool Witchee, the Haunt Halloween update goes live tomorrow! When it does, please post right away and let me know your dreams and wishes! I won't look at the update - I've been sent their stuff before and it's really nice, but my discretionary budget has taken a hit since I bred, so I try not to tempt myself unnecessarily I've got some canned goods put up -- mostly jams/jellies, some apple butter, some applesauce. Want some? If so, what kind(s)? I do a bit of preserving myself, but I'm always interested to try what other people make. Could be kind of heavy to ship though :/ How feel you about lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks? Any particular favourite scents/flavours? Any favourite makers/sellers? Balms and glosses I have plenty of already, and I tend to have expensive tastes in lipstick Since wishlist links never seem to work in forum mail, won't you please re-post your wishlist links here, so they're readable? Have done so up the top Are you a fan of anything that you would like a tshirt of? If so, what size would you wear? The fandoms I'm interested in include Labyrinth, Game of Thrones/ASOIAF, Harry Potter, Firefly. I am also a little bit lot obsessed with anything and everything related to Alice in Wonderland. I don't need more tshirts as such, but if it was a super cool incredibly awesome extra special tshirt, well! It would be rude not to. I wear a M or L in girly/babydoll shirts depending on how well they accommodate bustiness (L is probably the safer bet). Do you love, hate, or are indifferent to.....pumpkin flavored things? I actually \haven't tried many pumpkin flavoured things. Pumpkin is really just a vegetable you have with your Sunday roast dinner here... the profusion of pumpkin EVERYTHING on Pinterest is sort of baffling for me. Dear future Witchee, did you get anything from the Beaver Moon or Weenie updates that I need to know about, so I don't accidentally repeat anything? Nope, I haven't made a lab order in months. Name some DVDs you wouldnt mind receiving, or are they on an Amazon list? At the moment I'm trying to collect Disney movies on blu ray for the little one before they go back in the 'Disney vault'. Of the currently available ones, I still need to get Cinderella, Peter Pan and Bambi. I already bought Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, The Sword in the Stone, and The Princess and the Frog. For me, I have a few things on my Amazon wishlist, and I also want to start getting the Doctor Who (post reboot / 9th Doctor onwards) episodes on DVD. Do you want anything from Starbucks or Teavana? Tea, tea makers, rock sugar, tea tins, coffee, via, via refreshers, mugs, tazo tea...? Ummm... I'm interested in those IngenuiTEA things I saw somebody post about in a previous round, I have no idea where they come from though. WHAT traditions to you partake in for Halloween? Knowing what you do our how you decorate or how you celebrate? As I mentioned, it's not a big thing in Australia yet so we don't really have any traditions in our house. I did carve a pumpkin a couple of years ago, the stores are starting to stock them for Halloween as it gets more popular. Halloween Candy, Decorations, and Costume supplies - What kind are your idea of FUN and which ones would you thoroughly dislike? I have tried candy corn, and I did not like it very much Most other candy I like, but I do try (not always successfully) to keep my sugar intake within reasonable limits. As for decorations and costume supplies, Halloween is not really much of a thing here (though it’s slowly getting bigger). My kid is too young to take trick or treating, and I doubt anybody we know will be having a Halloween party or anything. Boo Hey, Witchee, it's getting cold. Socks, scarves, hats or arm warmers? Thanks to many incredibly talented former swap partners, I’m pretty well set for both scarves and hats (also, here in upsidedownland it’s actually getting warmer, not colder ). I always love socks, especially knee highs or over-the-knee (and if you can hand knit socks, I bow down to you). Arm warmers wouldn’t see much action for the next few months, but I’d happily put them aside for later.

    Arana

    Double post, whoopsie.

    Arana

Wet: Sweet to start with! The vanilla is attention-whoring, the woody notes are lurking shyly in the background but hinting at depth. I have no idea what benzoin smells like, presumably it's along for the ride but I really wouldn't know. Dry: Somehow, this smells kind of coconutty to me now, even though there is obviously no coconut note. It has a lingering sweetness, and the wood notes are very soft. It's a fuzzy kind of scent.

    [Redacted] Dragon

I would lay money on vetiver. If you have imps of them in your collection, try Bluebeard or Djinn for confirmation that's what you're smelling - those are both very vetiver heavy on me too. So, I had this on for about .72 of a second before I had to scrub it off. Disappointing, but at least I now have confirmation that I cannot wear vetiver blends. Ever never. Not even if it's a minor note.

My Mom With the Sun in Her Hands

Wet: Very much getting the 'perfume counter' fragrance other reviewers have spoken of. I could definitely believe this was a commercial perfume, but for the absence of alcohol overtones. Drydown: Yup, still getting that mishmash of commercial scents that you encounter while cruising through the cosmetics floor of a department store. Can't pick out particular notes, but I'm rubbish at that anyway. I assume its the magnolia and bergamot that are front and centre, because it reads very florally on me. It's inoffensive, but nothing that I'm excited enough about to need a bottle.

Happy Baby in a Long Dress

Alas, I really do get 'cleaning product' from this. Not just because lemon and lavender are common scents for cleaning products, but it also has that slightly acrid, throat-scratchy character I associate with cleaning chemicals. This one is not for me.
  9. Do you like s'mores and s'mores-flavored things? I have never had one. But I'm trying to make a long term lifestyle choice to steer clear of anything sweet and lacking in nutrition, so... What's the neatest freebie you've gotten? It can be cool or thoughtful or just totally unexpected, and not limited to BPALdom. Awhile back I made an elephant plushie for sunshinedaisybliss's nephew, and by way of thanks she sent me half decants of THE ENTIRE SNAKEPIT That was pretty epic. Would you enjoy receiving cute but useful items like colorful kitchen utensils/gadgets, or bento supplies? (boxes, chopsticks, accessories, etc?) What about things like spice mixes (homemade, or Penzey's for example) I have a lot of kitchen stuff (it's a passion), but bento boxes would be thoroughly awesome. Do you like cute, seasonal or fluffy PJ bottoms? Like they sell at Target, Old Navy (they have had cute Halloween ones!) If so, what size do you wear? I love PJs, but I do kind of already have a whole drawer full so I'm pretty set. What kind of chocolate do you like? Nuts, no nuts, white, dark, etc? Dark or milk, especially with hazelnut or coconut. Oh, and MisaMisa01 once sent me some Earl Grey tea flavoured chocolate which was incredible. I live near a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Penzeys! What does your little heart desire from any or all of these places? I have very little knowledge of what you'd get from any of those places, although the fabulous carwoman did send me some Trader Joe's nuts and spices once, which were wonderful. Are home made foods acceptable or does the idea of eating strange mailed food disturb you? Acceptable yes, as long as they can survive the transit time (and quarantine inspection - anything containing whole seeds is confiscated by Australian quarantine). I just gave you $20 and sent you into a "has everything" store ala Walmart and told you that you have to come out having spent it all, and none of it on anything you need. What would you buy? Be as specific as possible! These days, baby stuff. Probably stretchy wraps or onesies. What kind of cuisines do you like? (I mentioned this in my ?aire but curious what my witch may like)And, what are your favorite restaurants? I like Indian, Thai, Mexican, Japanese. I'm from Canada - is there anything specifically a witchee might like that is only available here? I don't know what type of things would be considered specifically Canadian, but if my witch is from Canada and cares to enlighten me I'd be all for it what are your "fandoms" and would you like a t-shirt from TeeFury if an appropriate one came up? Alice in Wonderland, Firefly, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride. Do you have an eReader and if so which one? I don't have one yet (except for iPhone, and the screen's a little small to read whole novels comfortably). Do you like candles, or tart burners, or something? If so, what's your favorite scent to burn? Yes, love them! Hubs and I went to our favourite Christmas store a few weeks ago (it was August, that's how much I love decorating for Christmas) and they had imported a bunch of the big Yankee Candle jar candles in Christmas scents. The Cherries in the Snow, Winter Wonderland and Christmas Cookie ones where all delicious. But with the markup they were charging $50 for them, which is kind of excessive for a candle. Anyway, I digress, but yes I like candles and tarts very much Marzipan? Nooooooo! No, thank you, I find it quite sickening. Would you be interested in washable/reusable muslin “paper” towels (basically muslin squares hemmed around the edge)? Maybe in some sort of box to put on your kitchen or bathroom counter? These could actually be really useful, especially for baby spew. I hear babies spew a lot. Do you drink alcohol and if so, would you be OK with your witch sending you homemade infused vodka? Also, does your state allow alcohol to be shipped through the mail? I do drink alcohol, though fairly rarely, but I expect this would have zero chance of making it through customs. Since it's been mentioned several times, and I've also offered to nacho witch some, would you you like to receive wild rice and or maple syrup? I promise to include recipe ideas with the wild rice. I would love wild rice... might be a bit heavy to ship though, and also likely to be a potential quarantine issue if not commercially packaged I suspect. Sigh. I was lucky enough to receive proper maple syrup from Arlith last round, so I'm set for that. I have 5 bushels of tomatoes sitting in the kitchen right now that are supposed to turn into red sauce tomorrow, so would anyone like a basic red sauce (spaghetti sauce) to make its way to them? Again, this would be awesome, but shipping... How would you feel about a taste of (insert witch location here) box? Sounds fun! Last year, my wonderful witch Alethia adopted a bat for me from batworld.org, a bat rescue and sanctuary. Bat's World Would you be interested in having a bat adopted in your name? That's a sweet idea, any cause that supports animals is always a winner with me. Some of your favorite artists? Classic and modern? I love Banksy, I think his work is really clever and it has a playfulness that appeals to me in so many ways. Frida Kahlo, Roy Lichtenstein, Brian Froud, Tim Burton. I love Arthur Rackham's illustrations (particularly Alice in Wonderland) and Ronald Searle's cats. If you could have an image or certain subject painted for you on any type of "canvas" (on a box, on paper, on a canvas, and so on) - could you point your witch to some of these images? If my witch is an artist, what I would love the most is something in her (or his) own style. If the subject matter is inspiring and meaningful to you, I bet I will love it too. Is there a GC scent that's been on your list for ages but keeps falling off the bottom of your order because of the LEs? This used to be Hermia, but then it got disconned before I could order it so my most eagerly awaited GC is now a HTF There's a few other GCs I'd like to get listed in my wishlist... of those, How Doth The Little Crocodile and Croquet are probably the ones I'd prioritise most. I've been getting into indie nail polish brands recently. What's your favorite indie brand of nail polish? Or what's your favorite mainstream brand of nail polish? Or are you not big on polish? I've only tried one of the BPTP ones so far (Bordello) but I really like their formula. I don't think we really get a lot of 'indie' brands here, I mostly have OPI and Butter London. Honestly though, I love nail polish but I already have a lot of bottles I've never used because I'm hopeless about breaking my nails all the time, and I can never see the point of painting them unless they're in good condition. So 90% of the time they go au naturel even though I love polish Stuffed things: yea or nay? I love handmade stuffed things, because handmade in general is awesome and they have so much personality. Mass-produced stuffed animals I kind of just see as unnecessary clutter at this point. Mix-in-a-jar? How to you feel about cookie or cake or soup mixes that come in jars and you just add, like, an egg or water or what have you? Sure! I live near this very cool Retro store (you can order online too) - are there things from it that would make you squee if your witch sent them? Jeez, I'm glad *I* don't live near that store, because I could do serious damage! I love this aesthetic. The fifties style toys and games are especially adorable. Would you be interested in beer, wine, or other specialty beverages from your Witch's area? Allow me to refer you to my now most common question response: Yes, but shipping and quarantine... Sometimes being international is such a buzzkill. Sorry, future witch Are there any crafts/skills you've wanted to learn but haven't gotten around to? And if so, would you be interested in supplies and tutorials? Yes, there are always things I want to learn! Quilting has been on the list for awhile, and it'd also be cool to learn to make wire-wrapped jewelry. And if somebody could magically teach me to knit intarsia so I can finish off the baby sweater I started four months ago, that'd be just capital. Who here would be happy to get a lil' sumthin sumthin from Adagio Teas? --> http://www.adagio.com I do love tea, but having not had any during pregnancy (the rules about how much caffeine is okay and which herbs are safe, not safe, probably safe but nobody knows for sure etc. just made it easier to abstain altogether) my cupboard kind of overfloweth with tea at the moment. Do you Ravelry? And if so, what's your handle over there? Would you be interested in gift patterns from your queue? Yes, but I am a very inactive user (HumanFemale is my username). I don't think I have any patterns in a wishlist or anything, but cool patterns would definitely be nice to receive (as long as they're not toooo complex, I'm still pretty novice). Who likes Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses? I don't know! Never tried 'em. I don't eat too much sweet stuff, but a couple to try might be nice. What does your kitchen look like? Colors/style? Like this... Witchee, what are your favorite quotes? If I could bottle up the sea breeze I would bring it over to your house and turn it loose through your garden So the hinges on your windows would rust and colour, like the boats pulled up on the sand for the summer And your sweet clean clothes would go stiff on the line, and there'd be sand in your pockets and nothing on your mind... (okay, so it's actually a song lyric, but I love that it perfectly reminds me of beach holidays as a kid) Put your iPod/MP3 player/what-have-you on random and list the first 10 songs it plays! Heart Lies - The Waifs Hey Julie - Fountains of Wayne (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding Master Blaster (Jammin') - Stevie Wnder Black Dog - Led Zeppelin Take a Picture - Filter June Hymn - The Decemberists Cool World - Ross Wilson From St Kilda to Kings Cross - Paul Kelly Black Stick - The Cruel Sea What's one random thing you really like and one random thing you really dislike? Really like: tomatoes, really dislike: jeggings. Are there any herbs that you haven't been able to lay hands on that I could send you? There's an herbal shop I really like here in NYC called Flower Power (flowerpower.net) that has quite a wide selection. Um... chipotle powder would definitely be appreciated, I have to go to specialty stores to get it here. If there are no "witchy" shops near you, is there anything I can pick up for you from Enchantments? I'm not against witchery, but neither am I educated in it. I've been interested in TAL oils for awhile, but I'd have no idea what sort of rituals to perform in order to make use of them. If my witch is a witchy witch (that made total sense, right? ) it'd be cool if s/he could pass on some basic knowledge. Hey Witchee! I want to send you a delivery. It could be cupcakes from a local bakery, it could be a singing hugging bear-a-gram, it could be a bouquet of flowers. But it will be something that you need to be there to receive. a) Are you OK with "special deliveries"? *waggles eyebrows* Uh, I guess? B..) Is the address in your questionnaire the best place to reach you for said deliveries? Yup, I expect I'll be fairly housebound for the foreseeable future c) If the delivery requires a phone number (as say, some florists do) would you be OK with that information being tracked down by your Witch or asked of you anonymously? Best just to ask. What are some things you are OK with receiving gently used or homemade, and some things you absolutely do not want if they are gently used or homemade? I'm pretty okay with anything used/homemade. I mean, I assume you won't be sending me second hand underwear, so... we're cool. And now a new question: I live near a Mast General Store (mastgeneralstore.com). It has lots of vintage-y toys, southern foods (jams, jellies, spices) and vintage candy. Is there anything I can get for you? All of that sounds pretty damn great Do you have any Fall or Halloween traditions? Halloween is not so much of a thing here (and it falls in spring rather than autumn). Last year I carved a pumpkin and had friends round for dinner just for fun though. Don't think I'll be able to this year (new spawn and all). Ninjas or Pirates? Pirates. I have an extra room spray and 2 extra bath oils (one Cephalopod, one Exhibit Hall Fatigue) from Dragon*Con - would anybody like a decant? I've never tried a BPTP bath oil, so if you were my witch I'd definitely be grateful to try a little Witchee, would you like it if I made you a "mix tape" of songs that I think you might like? And if so, would you prefer mp3 or CD format? Sure, I always like getting exposed to different music. Any format is fine. I know it is totally the wrong season (for most of us), but do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you like to grow? I grew tomatoes and chillies last spring/summer, and hope to do the same this year. I'd love to get a bigger veggie garden going, but don't know that I'll be able to manage it any time soon. I'm about to be near a Lush store next week, is there anything you might like from there? I really like Lush soaps... the ones I've tried are Karma, Honey I Bathed the Kids, and whatever that delicious citrusy one is. Really, I'd be open to trying anything from Lush. Songs that you keep meaning to buy but never get round to it? I try to buy them as soon as I think of them, otherwise I completely forget what it was I wanted. Movies that you love but forgot to put in your questionaire? I have some on my Amazon wishlist I think. Any favorite Bath & Body Works scents/products? Never tried any, we don't have that store here. Haus of Gloi is offering custom perfumes - would you like one? What would your ideal blend be? Sure! Anything with some of my win notes should be good. Any Bath, Body or nutritional type items you would love to try from a Natural and Organic food store (similar to Whole Foods) that you don't buy because they are a bit too pricey? Any natural, gentle baby skincare or bath products would be great. And I am always on the lookout for good SLS & paraben free shampoos and conditioners. OK, so those of you who said you wouldn't mind receiving (sneakily packaged!) beer or wine: Tell me of your taste preferences. Dry/sweet? Red/white? Lager/ale/porter/stout? Fruit? Spice? Hops? Sour (brettanomyces, etc)? I prefer mellow red wines, lager or pilsner style beers, and dry ciders. Witchee, will you be gone from your normal mailing address at any point during the round? For five days or so when I have the baby, but otherwise no. And the Mr will still be back and forth to home. Are you a Disney fan or does even thinking about Disney make your head hurt? If you're into Disney, would you like something from the Happiest Place on Earth ? I love Disney, and hell yes dear witchee, would you, could you use an electric candle warmer? Does this mean like an electric diffuser thingy to melt wax tarts or warm fragrance oils? Sure, that would be handy. Do you lust after some new socks/tights? Always! I love above-the-knee socks, and I wear fun coloured or patterned tights all the time in the colder months. are there any of MeiLin's books (e-book or print) you'd be interested in? I think I have all her recipe ones from past rounds, and I've got the first of her novels but haven't managed to read it because I don't have an ereader and reading on the laptop bugs me. So I'm set for the time being. Are you a gamer (of any sort - video, casual, tabletop) and are there any games you want? Not really, though I do like just regular board games that are fun to play as a group when you have friends or family over. Would you be interested in BPTP CANDY? Not so much, thanks all the same. It sounds great, but again with the sugar. Do you like coffee? If so, what kinds? Flavored, fancy, basic? Beans or ground? I do, but I drink it quite seldom. The Mr is a total coffee fiend though. Would a Starbucks gift card make you happy or do you prefer your local place? Er, I'm not sure we even have any Starbucks left in Melbourne... we have a really big Italian population here, and Starbucks is a pretty long way from what is considered to be coffee in this town. A few opened up at one stage, but they only lasted a couple of years. CUSTOM-Made Pottery?? yea or nay? coffee mugs, rustic or more elegant? a set of bowls? soap dish? bird feeder? something alltogether different? and lastly, good colors for glazes...? Pottery is great. Um... I could probably use a salad bowl or pitcher the most. Do you have a forum buddy? Someone who knows you and/or your tastes well enough to answer questions on your behalf? Skyelyric knows me pretty well. If you are on Livejournal, would you appreciate LJ stuff like paid time, custom userheads, stuff like that? If you are NOT on LJ but are on other sites that have similar paid-for services (Flickr, for example?) would you, and what are those sites/etc? I have one but never use it, so probably not. A question, witchees: if you are into tarot, what is your favorite card? Probably The Star. Apparently it is connected to Aquarius, and my chart is rampant with Aquarius, so maybe that's why. Or maybe it's just because I really like the BPAL oil for The Star. And another question: would you like your own set of handmade rune stones or worry stones? No thank you, I wouldn't know how to use them. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cider, or none of the above? Tea is what I drink the most out of those. Gum, hard candy, soft candy, or none of the above? Gum. Loose tea or tea bags? Do you need anything for your loose tea? (Filters, presses, etc.) Either is fine, and I'm all set for accompanying paraphernalia If you like tea, what kinds? Flavoured black or white tea, or herbal blends. Not so much green tea or rooibos, I sometimes find them a little bitter. Do you do Goodreads or LibraryThing or a site like that? If so, can I see your to-read list, please? I use Goodreads but haven't updated in awhile, I'm very behind on reading (I have a pile of uncracked novels waiting patiently). Zombies; Yay or Nay? Nay If you have cats, do they like catnip toys? If you have doggies, would they like a super-reinforced canvas toy with a squeaker in it? My cat is one of the ones that does not seem to get any effect from catnip unfortunately. As for dog toys, wow, it would need to be super-reinforced. My dogs and their jaws of doom can even chomp through Kongs if left to their own devices. If you have kids, what are they into? Hobbies include kicking my liver and arriving fashionably late, it would seem. How do you feel about wearable knitted lace? Shawls, wraps, and the like? I prefer plainer or chunkier knits to delicate lacy things, they're just more my style. Looking at the warehouse, I notice that our lovely Greenwoodtree is able to do chart readings and/or forecasts at a very reasonable rate. Is this something you would want? This would be fun, for sure. I live in Japan. Anything you would be interested in from there? Decorative Japanese papers are gorgeous, I like to use them for handmade cards and such. Candy Corn: yes, no? Oh, no thank you. I tried some once and it didn't appeal. WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF!!! movies, comedians, black humor, your partner, a comic strip? what? British humour, silly in-jokes my husband and I share, my cat's incredible talent for bitchface. You are meeting up with someone on a casual lunch/early afternoon thing. This person is someone you want to impress/look good for (for whatever reason, not necessarily romantic, and not necessarily for business either). What would you look like, given the contents of your wardrobe/etc? Probably a patterned dress of some sort (most likely slightly vintagey looking), nice heels from my shoe collection, maybe a hat if I'm feeling inclined or a silk scarf in my hair. You are to be let loose in a clothing store of your choice, to pick a full outfit, down to the shoes, the accessories, etc. and things would be altered to fit you if needed. What store would that be, and what would you look like? It would probably be from Country Road... a nice knee-length skirt and cute top, a pair of plain ballet flats, and whatever jewelry took my fancy I guess. You open a box from the post office to reveal the 3 things you want most right now. What are they? (caveats: size doesn't matter, but they have to be tangible/buyable). I'll come back to this one. The end of this month I'm going to Scarefest, the big horror and paranormal con in Kentucky. (www.scarefest.com) If I were your witch, is there anything you would like from there (skull jewelry, art prints from an artist that catch your eye, etc), or anyone whose autograph or photo or such you would dig? Not sure... let me come back to this too. What is your holy grail "I'd kill to just have one drop in an imp" bpal scent? I'd like to be able to try The Girl, just to see what all the fuss is about. Are there any existing Weenies that you have your eye on, but haven't gotten around to getting? I haven't bought any Weenies or decants - still have to look at the list, but with the baby arriving and the budget tightening, I probably won't get any this year. if you wear earrings, do you have pierced ears? Yes My new job is at a consignment store where we have all kinds of designer brands for very reasonable prices. Are there designer clothes/purses/sunglasses that you desire/love? (Give some indication as to your "style" as well. For example, do you like bohemian-style frocks in lavender? Crossbody purses in black? Sunglasses that are round and bug-like?) I do like well made clothes and accessories (which may or may not be branded or 'designer', to be honest it really doesn't matter to me either way) but I'm not one for gratuitous brand-whoring. For example, I like Coach bags, but I've only ever bought the plain leather ones - the the ones plastered all over with the logo arenot my thing. Similarly, I could not take myself seriously in a pair of sunglasses with a giant 'Dior' or 'Chanel' along the arm, I'd just feel like a twat. In the meantime, let me know what you like to do on the Internet to kill time. Flash games? What are your daily websites/blog visits, or favorite YouTube videos? A couple of craft and design blogs (and the odd food blog for dinner inspiration), news websites, The Oatmeal, Hyperbole and a Half (back in the day anyway, it's been dormant for a long time now), STFU Parents (knowing what NOT to do is important at this point!), occasionally Regretsy if I'm in the mood for snark. My Little Pony... Cute or meh? I liked the original ones as a kid, I've never seen the TV show but the newer design doesn't appeal to me as much. I do like Roogna's modded ponies though! Lip balm - tube or tin? Tubes are more convenient. But, I possibly have enough lipbalm to see me through the apocalypse at this point. Would you like to receive a journal or sketchbook? How about other pretty paper goods like post-its, notepads, bookmarks, letter paper/envelopes? I love stationery, but I do tend to hoard so I'm not sure there's much I *need*. Nice writing paper or notecards are always handy, and I love art supplies. Are you interested in audiobooks? If so, any specific titles? This would have been great for my train commute when I was working full time, but when the baby's here I doubt I'd get the chance to sit and listen for long enough stretches. Bar soaps with some scrubby bits, yes or no? Yes, as long as they won't clog the drain! Do you need any small electronic gadgets like flash drives and the like? No, the Mr is a bona fide IT geek so I already spend too much time tripping over external hard drives and cat 5 cables. Would you like a pair of knitted socks? That would be wonderful! Do you have any use for knitted dishcloths, facecloths, etc, especially if they were fandom related? I actually just bought a whole bunch of facecloths recently, with a view to absorbing all manner of infant secretions. Handmade things are always nice though. Do you subscribe to any sample boxes, and if so, which ones? Would you like to receive some samples? No, I've never got sample boxes - they strike me as potentially wasteful. Honestly I normally end up throwing out a lot of the sample cosmetic stuff I get given with purchases and whatnot. do you have a problem with nudes??? If not, do you prefer male or female? No issues at all as long as it's not exploitative, male or female are fine. Paintbox Soapworks: Interested in anything from her? Always! I'd be glad to try the hot process soaps or goat milk creams in particular, as I haven't ordered those myself yet. are there any other e-tailers you're desperately wanting to try? if so, any specific items/scents/etc? Nothing that immediately comes to mind. ThinkGeek: anything interesting to you on there? There may be one or two items on my Amazon universal wishlist from there? Can't remember. What's one thing you want, right now, that you're having difficulty finding? Tensioners for our outdoor rotary clothesline. Well, you asked I'm a suburban housewife now, this is what my life has become. Who here is going to be picking up JK Rowling's new book on Thursday? I will hopefully read it at some stage, but I won't be rushing out to grab it - I have a backlog of about 20 or 30 books still to get through. They guilt me relentlessly from my nightstand. What do you do to take care of yourself when you're having a rough day (sick, life not going your way, whatever)? Warm bubble bath with candlelight, or watching a favourite feelgood movie usually helps. favorite and least favorite baked goods? Is there such a thing as a bad baked good? I guess lately I'd lean towards the less sugary and more nutritious though, so stuff with wholemeal flour or wholegrains is good. what size T-Shirt do you wear (standard AND babydoll)? An S or M in standard (depending on bewbie capacity) and more like an L in babydoll / girly cuts. I found a fantastic little shop while traveling that had unusual jellies and jams. Would you be interested in trying something like Georgia Moonshine Jelly or TOE Jam (each letter stands for some kind of fruit, I don't remember which ones) or something similar? How about homemade jam in general? Sure, I'll give anything like this a try. I admit I'm having a little trouble getting past the ookiness of the name 'toe jam' though *shudder* Would you be interested in homemade herbal remedies and tinctures? I guess it would depend what it was. I'm more down with some forms of herbal medicine than others (I totally rate naturopathy, for example, but I think homeopathy is 100% double-hopped horseshit). Do you use or would like to try loose eyeshadow pigments? I do use them. I'm not wearing much makeup these days (I have nobody to impress but Lucy and she doesn't seem to mind me au naturel) but they're fun to play with every once in awhile. Is there anything you might want from the latest weenie update (Lab or TP)? I've only taken the briefest look, but the spidery scents sounded really good, as did the bath oils and atmos from the Post. There's nothing I'm desperately desperate for, though. What's a new company to you that you most want to try a product from or what would be a new product to you that you most want to try (make-up, perfume, or bath/body)? Erm... I heard of CB I Hate Perfume via people mentioning it on the forum, and their stuff sounds interesting. If you like necklaces, what are some symbols or images that you would love to have a necklace depict? (ex. spiders, skulls, hearts...?) Something featuring a raven would be cool. If you had a fairy for NYCC, what exclusive scent would you kill to own? Badgers, Miss Ida or Nymphs de Pave all sound really good (probably in that order of preference, too). What do you think of Shiro Cosmetics Halloween Collection? (www.shirocosmetics.com) The two darker eyeshadows would probably be too dramatic for my complexion, but the lighter ones and the lip gloss are really nice. The Godiva Halloween Collection: link? Not looking! (Godiva is chocolate, right?) Avoiding temptation Would you be interested in comic books and if so what ones do you read or what genre of comics are you interested in? Comic books are cool objectively, but really not my thing. WITCHEE, DO YOU WANT ANYTHING FROM CALIFORNIA? Narrow it down for me? IngenuiTEAs? These sound really useful. Honeycrisp "Apple Crips" (Dried honeycrisp apples, nothing added.) DO YOU WANT SOME WITCHEE????? Sounds great, but potentially dodgy from a quarantine standpoint. Design a tea? Not at the moment... avoiding caffeinated beverages while breastfeeding. FusionSweets? (etsy) I looked at these last round, and looking at their caramels and marshmallows made me drool a little. But, best avoided now due to diabetes scare. Poe Day? Dark Del merch in general? Alone or Spirits of the Dead sound interesting, but the notes are not dead-cert enough for me to be entirely sure they would work for me. Kombucha? I looked up what this was, and it scared me a little if I'm honest Are you dressing up for Halloween, Witchee? If so, is there anything you're looking for to complete your costume? Nope and nope. Do you need any accessories for your smartphone (case, skin, etc)? Not at the moment... my iPhone is a bit broken (it's been stuck on silent for 6 months now because I dropped it and it seems I managed to shake loose the wiring from the buttons that control silent mode and volume *facepalm*). I was hoping to get the new iPhone when it came out, but that will have to wait until the finances are a little more in order.

    Carrot Cake?

It's not easy to find as it was a past forum-only and incredibly popular, but Cake Smash would be a good choice. It's supposed to be red velvet cupcakes, but given it's a cake + cream cheese frosting combo, it could easily pass for carrot cake. It's actually uncanny how perfectly this scent replicates cream cheese frosting.

    Mastermind

This smelled okay in the decant, awesome wet, and then very quickly turned to something unpleasantly familiar. It took me awhile to work it out, but... bug spray. This scent turned to bug spray on my skin. Sigh.

    SW Q&A - Halloweenie Round 2011

WISHLIST LINKIES Etsy Amazon (zey are up to date) Does anyone else like collector Barbies? Not especially. Barbie creeps me out a little. What small everyday items would you like, that you keep forgetting to get? Plastic lids for pet food cans. Sexy, huh? Tarot I have a super cute deck given to me by my former witch millicurie! I still don't really know how to use it though... must learn. Tell me about something you like, and why you like it. Music on vinyl. I collect Motown, big band, swing, jazz and Elvis on vinyl. There's just something about the rich quality of the sound that I love, and it makes me feel, briefly, like I live in (what I perceive to be) a more interesting time. I also recently bought a gramophone and some of the old shellac 78s. I like old things. If you're the MMU type of Witchee, what Geek Chic Cosmetics tickle your fancy? The Rocky Horror Picture Show stuff all looks awesome! Would any witchees be interested inQuinn Popcorn? I love popcorn, but I prefer cooking it the old fashioned way that microwaving it. Who likes silly items from Archie McPhee??? This kind of stuff is funny, but I tend to buy it and then have clutter up my house. I do like the moonshine water bottle though, and the pickle band-aids are hilarious. Nocturne Alchemy's NAlloween Pt. 2 update is live here! (And for a few days, last month's update too.) What do you want? I haven't tried their oils. What are you drooling over from the Sock Dreams Halloween stuff? I like the bat attack ones! I was too distracted by the Alice in Wonderland collection to pay much attention though. Luck charms? I'm not really superstitious. I do like little trinkets that remind me of people though, not for luck but just because it's nice to have a little piece of somebody you love with you. Does anyone want anything from... here...? The stuff looks yummy, but they mentioned being prooooudly made right here in the good ol' USofA so many times that I'm fairly certain they're racist douchebags. For those of you that like candles, do you like stuff from Yankee Candle? And if you had to choose, tarts or candles? I use both. I've been given a couple of Yankee Candle things in the past, they seem good. Would you be interested in getting a custom necklace from here? Some of their stuff is nice, some is a bit too fussy for my tastes. Is there a movie you want so badly that you don’t own now? Any of the ones on my Amazon wishlist would make me Is there a song on Itunes that you haven’t downloaded yet? I either download them as soon as I think of it, or forget entirely. Is there a rare book you’ve always wanted? Oh, sure. Witch, if you have any first edition Hemingways cluttering up the place that you'd like to get rid of, I will take them off your hands. I'm nice like that. Is there anything you want to buy yourself but have been too embarrassed (R rated or pg)? Nothing comes to mind. Have you seen the Lush holiday update? Do you like the look of anything from there? I haven't seen the update, but Lush is always pretty good. On the pricey side, though. if you were my witchee, would you want some of my hot nuts my candied nuts my nuts covered in butter and brown sugar candied walnuts? Hell yeah, I want your nuts! Is there anything you either didn't like or had never heard of that you're now curious to try thanks to the discussion in this thread? I think there's plenty that fits into that category! Reveal? I will reveal. I hope my witch will, because I would like to know who to thank. But if s/he doesn't want to for whatever reason, I understand. Would you be interested in the #occupywallstreet scent? I may have already bought it Do Paintbox Soapworks' Goat's Milk Hand and Body Creams sound like something you'd like to try? Yes, they sound good! Witchee, would you like anything from this particular Haunt update? I like Haunt, but from what I could see the update sold out super quick so this question's probably moot now. Who's interested in Halloween: Montreal? It sounds nice, but I'm not desperate for it. You get a package in the mail containing 3 things you have really wanted more than anything else you've mentioned so far in this thread. (they are all reasonably priced of course! ~$20 or less apiece). What are they? Maybe some of the things on my Etsy list? I really love the hot air balloon cards. And there's a couple of things I think are awesome (like the vintage tomato shaped teapot and the apothecary bottles) that won't ship here. But that's probably because they weigh a ton and would cost lots to ship here, I guess :/ Umm. Somebody else mentioned stitch markers (for knitting) in cute animal shapes, which sound awesome and I've never seen them here. Also, I love stuff like old maps, coloured illustration plates from old books, stuff like that you sometimes see in junk stores or garage sales. how do you feel about hemp? jewelry, soap, etc? I haven't tried a lot of hemp stuff, but I like The Body Shop's hemp hand cream. And I love Banshee Beat and I think that has a strong hemp component. So I'm hemp positive, I guess. Is there a magazine that you DON'T read because you can't find it near you, but wish you could? I can't think of anything. Describe your sense of humour. I did the quiz thing and I came out as 'The Wit'. I like that caustic sort of British humour, but I also laugh at really dumb things a lot. If you've ever seen the French movie Tais Tois, it's total slapstick and just silly really, but I about killed myself laughing the first time I saw it. And I used to love Scrubs before it got too ridiculous. Do you like reusable grocery bags? If so, do you like the kind that fold up (ie Chico Bags?) Yes, and yes. I'm about to make an order from Sephora (nothing off of my wishlist, witch, so don't worry about that). Is there anything for you that you would like to accompany my order, if you're my witchee? Oh holy hell, I love Sephora and I wish we had them here. Or even that they shipped international. When Mr g. and I were in the US about three years ago, I dropped six hundred bucks at Sephora in one visit (I know that's obscene, but I saved up specially, and it probably cost me less that half what it would have to buy the same stuff in Australia). So, in short, I'm a fan. What kind of purse do you prefer? Leather, cloth? over the shoulder or crossbody, or something that can do either? Do you like bold bright prints with fun things, or monochrome, solid colours? I prefer shoulder bags, one or two colour only. Unless it's a tote or shopping bag, in which case whatever colours. julep maven monthly boxes: Undecided. Your favorite restaurant or type of food to eat out. Would you use a restaurant.com voucher? Groupon? No thank you. Like commercial socks? All your sockses are belong to me. What kind of bear is best? Paddington Bear. Is anyone interested in reading The Night Circus? It sounds pretty good from the blurb on Amazon, so sure! Hershey's Pumpkin Spice kisses? I don't know? Are they good? They sound good, but then a lot of people went 'ew, no way', so I'm confused. I have a not-so-secret love for The Broship of the Rings. Are there any prints from her store you'd like? They're cute but since I'm not really into LOTR it doesn't call to me. Who here likes Stephanie Pui-Min Law's artwork? Objectively it's pretty and all, but it's really not my style. Do you drink wine? I do, occasionally. I prefer reds. Is it just me who is nervous at revealing herself to her witchee, and finding out who her witch is?! Dunno what I'd do with them though, probably stick them in a vase and hope it looked artsy-fartsy. Heavy to post, though. And another question; anyone like anything in particular from Think Geek? There are a couple of Think Geek things on my Amazon universal wishlist I think. Pinterest, do you have boards you want to share or are you following anyone with great boards you want to share? Haven't got into it. I think I've reached social media saturation point and the idea of signing up to anything else is just too much pressure What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with? Actors - Audrey Hepburn, Sam Callis. Directors - I wouldn't say obsessed, but I like Bernado Bertolucci's films. Author - Bill Bryson. Musicians - Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine, Gotye and Dan Sultan at the moment. are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update? Haven't looked. Not going to look. Lahlahlahlah I can't hear you. If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat? My pets are all greedy little bastards and would love treats. They have no dietary restrictions and are not at all discerning. What are your top three "I want to try them but I think I'll never get to try them" (or, "I've tried them and I want moar moar moar, but I don't think I'll ever get any") scents/bath oils/sprays? Hmm. Crypt Queen, Glowing Vulva and Orange. It's not like I lose sleep over it though. Is there a particular artist and piece that you would like a print of? If so, what is your max size that you could spare on your walls? I would love a print of A Hopeless Dawn, though I don't know if it's possible to even get one. If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase? I am! My tastes tend toward the expensive, but I like the eyeshadow pigment powders you can buy online and they're generally not too pricey. Do you like coffee or tea? Would you be interested in trying some different types? I like tea best, and always enjoy trying new ones. Nothing containing seeds will make it through Aussie quarantine though. Are there any CDs/Albums you've been wanting but haven't bought yet? What format do you prefer? (i.e. mp3, actual cd, record, etc) There are always plenty on my list, but any motown, jazz or Elvis on vinyl would be particularly awesome. Are you going away for any part of this round? No plans to do so at this stage. Would you like to receive a mix-CD from your Witch? Sure would, new music is awesome. If your witch were going somewhere on a vacation during the round, would you want a little souvenir? A postcard or fridge magnet would be really cool. I'm not really one for tchotchkes though. Do you enjoy any outdoor activities? Do you have a favorite form of "exercise"? (keep it clean, all!) Erm... I like walking the dogs, and I like short to medium sojourns in outdoor/foresty type areas. But I don't consider myself outdoorsy, nuh-uh. I do not enjoy any form of outdoor activity that exposes me to leeches or requires me to poop in a hole in the ground. I see camping as kind of a slap in the face to thousands of years of evolution. Any witchee's with a ravelry account have any favourited patterns that cost money that would be a welcome gift? I joined Ravelry awhile back, but really haven't explored too much. I'll have to take a more in-depth look at some stage. Do you work/study at a desk and enjoy interesting or cute office supplies? I am a total desk jockey, and I love stationery and office supplies. Witchee, are you a fan of musicals? If so, which ones? Yes, I am! I love The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, On The Town, High Society, Anchors Aweigh. Does Rocky Horror Picture Show count as a musical? If so, add that one too. Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents? I don't, it kind of all just smells like smoke to me. I like the smell of Indian temple incense, but I probably wouldn't burn it in my home. - Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you? Love HP I'm a Hufflepuff. - If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from? I dunno... maybe Amazon or Sock Dreams? Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? I've always liked the story of Persephone, and I find the Aboriginal creation legends really fascinating. If you RP, tabletop, forum, or otherwise... Do you have any original characters you'd like to see art of? If so, please give information! Even if it's a link to a web page or a profile or picture! Sorry, I've never tried RPGs of any kind. If you could see anything, what would it be? Can be a person, an event, a landmark or monument, an object, etc. And it doesn't have to be on this planet, or in this time period, or in this reality! I'll come back to this question, have to think about it. When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? A moment in the fresh air or some puppy cuddles usually work What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters? I've never really read any comic books, but if you have a fave I'd happily be enabled. Are you musical? Do you play an instrument, and if so, what? If not, what do you wish you could play or do? Not in any way. I really admire musical talent, but I certainly don't possess any. Does anyone garden? And if you do, what do you grow? If not, would a starter garden kit be something you'd be interested in? I am interested in gardening, but any seeds sent to me would most likely be confiscated by quarantine. Do you decorate for Halloween? Is your decorating taste elegant, kitschy and fun, or scary? I don't, because Halloween is not much of a thing here. If I did though, I'd probably go for a creepy Gothic mansion kind of aesthetic. Witchee, do you have any symbols or totems that have special meaning for you? I feel an affinity with bees and like to wear jewelry that represents them. Is anyone fond of programs like Adopt a Tree/Highway/Library/Manatee/Acre of Rainforest/etc?: Yes My personal favourite is the Adopt an Orang Utan program. From the Weenie Update....what are you most wanting to try? La Calavera Catrina. Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands? I like it, but I have quite a lot. I wear OPI mostly, but I also have some Creative Nail Design and China Glaze. Is there a quote (or lyric or part of a poem) that really resonates with you or is your favorite? I love the poem Annabel Lee (E.A Poe). And I really like the lyrics of 'Jane Says' - beautifully simple and poignant. Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw... I like just basic beeswax pillars, though soft scents are nice. I had some gingerbread scented wax pellets once that smelled amazing. Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors? Sure, handmade things are awesome! Socks would be cool, my knitting hasn't progressed to that stage yet. Would you be interested in homemade edibles that are NOT sweets? Any specifics? Possibly not practical due to distance :/ What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying? I've been meaning to get a bottle of Red Queen and How Doth The Little Crocodile for quite awhile. Yo, yarnies! Do you Ravelry? If so, who are you over thar? HumanFemale, but I'm not very active. Social Media? FB, Twitter, LJ (FB is the only one I tend to actually use though) Do you have wishlists for non-BPAL e-tailers? And if so, could you provide a link or a list? Just Etsy and Amazon, they're linked on my questionnaire. Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac? Mac What is your favorite animal? Elephants and bees What are you going to be for Halloween? Sad, because we don't do costumes! If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be? (If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.) A bee or a raven would be awesome. How do you feel about knick-knacks? Not a fan, don't like unnecessary clutter. What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you? Barbecues in the rain, 'Sunday drives', and buying the dogs a whole chicken each to celebrate their adoption anniversaries. Do you like going to the movies? Sure, every so often. What are your favorite restaurants? Indian, Thai or Italian are my go-tos. Do you play any video games? Only a few iPhone games. IMO the late 80s / early 90s will never be surpassed in video game excellence. My heart belongs to Super Mario, Space Invaders and Pac Man. Do you like any anime? Not really. I don't dislike it, but I don't seek it out. Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for? Nope, I just have an iPhone and a regular MacBook. how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be? I have quite a lot, but as we all know, there's no such thing as too much jewelry. So yeah, I'd be pretty psyched. I could definitely do with some 'statement' pieces to accessorise work outfits, like chunky pendants on long chains. How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants? Sure, this would be nice. I'm not picky outside of the preference I mentioned in my questionnaire. Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above? Nah, I'm pretty set for BPAL storage. Muppets: yea or nay? Yea! I also love Fraggle Rock *so much* Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite? I like all of those! I also like Fred Basset because it's so shit it's awesome. Favorite Mythological Creature?: Dragons! Raaar! Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers Yes Expanding on the hair question - does anyone like those flower clips for the hair that are big right now?? Yes, I have a couple in my Etsy favourites.

    Young Pine Saplings

Wet: Feck! You're right, yeahbutnobut, it's popcorn. More specifically, buttered popcorn flavoured Jelly Belly jelly beans. In smell form. Weird. Drydown Spices coming through, but still with the popcorn. Dry Better now. Clove often goes batsh*t crazy on my skin, but this is not too bad. And the ginger is nice and sharp - BPAL ginger notes often don't actually smell gingery to me, but this one does. Yay!

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

The first one that came to mind was The Little Sparrow - a good scent for shy, gentle creature who belongs in nature but fears bigger animals. Mouse's Long and Sad Tale could be good too - gentle and warm. TKO for the doziness, it's such a snuggly scent! It seems like you also really appreciate the spiritual aspects of nature, and that brought Kathmandu to mind - to me, it smells like ancient trees, mountain air and temple incense, a fitting scent for worshipping nature's majesty. For the horticulturalist in you, Titania is a lovely garden scent - it's like being surrounded by night-blooming flowers on a warm evening. Of course, I have no idea of your preferred notes - these are just the ones that came to mind from your description!
  15. Easter Candy - do you like it? If so, what types? I can take or leave it - I like chocolate, but not in huge quantities at once. What scent(s) are you petrified of getting DC'd? Hmm... The Lights of Men's Lives, Liz, Pele, and I'll be really sad if any more of the Mad Tea Party blends go - I was seriously bummed I never got to try March Hare. There are a bunch of GCs I've been meaning to try for ages and I'm worried they'll be DC'd before I get the chance. Violette Market Update is up. Do you covet anything from it? Never tried VM scents - trying not to develop any more costly obsessions! What is your favorite type of wine? Would you be interested in trying something new? In that case, is there anything you really DONT like? Ooooo how about dessert wines? Love most reds, some whites (Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer), but very few sweet wines appeal to me. What three things are you craving right now? Right now? Malaysian food, a hot bath and a blissful night's sleep. But If you're in the US, dear witch, and you happen upon any of the cherry cordial M&Ms I was recently enabled to, that would make a great substitute for any of the above! Why is stuff like that never available here? Though I'm meant to not be eating sugar. But those are so good, dammit! paper goods, anyone need? including resume paper, and formal stationery as well as casual cards. Nice blank notecards or cute postcards are always good for me. What is a scent that you've been trying to find even a sample of for a very long time to no avail? (What bottle would you die to get your hands on - even a partial?) Hanerot Halalu! Oh dear god, Hanerot Halalu... a very sweet forumite gifted me an imp of this magical elixir, and a bottle would be ZOMGamazing. But I don't hold out much hope, for who would give such a thing up? Is there anything in your life that you'd like advice or a "selfhelp" book for?: (ie finances, eating healthier, meal planning) Not so much... I think in most things in life, I know how to help myself... I just sometimes choose not to If your Witch lived near you, would you be happy or creeped out to get a "coupon" for a service like cleaning help or babysitting or dogwalking or coffee out with your Witch or something like that? Would you be creeped out if a local minion personally delivered a package to your house from a far-away Witch? Since my witch already clued me into her general location, I'm assuming this would be a moot point Let's say I have a pair of something you collect, would you like one of them and we have matching things? Sure! Witchy BFFs for evah! Do you like poetry? Some poetry. I like Edgar Allen Poe and an Australian poet called Les Murray. What types of scents do you like to scent your home? Which do you totally avoid? I love BPTP The Queen's Croquet Ground atmo spray - I spray it on my bed linen and feel like I'm sleeping in a sunny rose garden. I also have a Crabtree and Evelyn fragrance oil from Christmas a couple of years ago that I use with a lightbulb ring - it smells exactly like Gingerbread cookies baking and it's awesome in winter! What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters? I'm not anti-comics, but I admit I've never really seen the appeal of them. Maybe I just haven't found the right one. How do you feel about nail polish? What colors do you like? Sparkles? I'm in favour! I prefer creamy colours and unusual tones like Prussian blue or charcoal grey. Household/kitchen goods/gadgets? I always love a kitchen gadget! Ok geek check - what sort of geeky things do you do? Do you read comics/graphic novels? Are you obsessed with something (a TV show maybe?) Do you work in a geeky field? Do you play rpgs like Dungeons and Dragons? Would you like gifts related to any of these? DH and I are pretty obsessive about the TV shows we love (Firefly, Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Scrubs, The IT Crowd, I could go on!). I'm more craft-geek than sci-fi or fantasy geek though. Do you have a favorite fabric? If someone were to make you a fabric item, would you prefer it be out of any fabric? e.g. velvet, satin, silk, cotton, bamboo??? Would this change if it were an article of clothing vs. a bag/pillow/blanket/somethingelse I actually really like natural feeling fabrics like unbleached cottons, linens and hemp. More for decorating and crafting than clothing I guess. I also love pure wool felts. Anything with the Worm Moon update that you're already lusting after? I haven't looked at it very carefully, but nothing jumped right out at me. Would you want an invite to a site that is invite-only ex. Diaspora, Demonoid, etc. If so, what? I don’t know what those are Pillows? What size/designs/colors would most interest you? Probably deep reds or earth tones, but this kind of thing could be a bit too bulky for shipping perhaps? purses? bags? What style/colors? I’m pretty okay for this kind of thing at the moment. Decorative scarves for hair and/or creative accessorizing? What colors? Definitely. Blues or jewel tones are good. Would you like anything from Starring Fragrances. They make awesome hair stuff, natural deoderant, and home fragrance (and a ton of other stuff, those are just my favs)? I’ve been trying to find a good organic shampoo that doesn’t make my hair limp and greasy, so if they do anything like that it would be awesome. Home fragrances are great too – I prefer lighter scents for this. For those who like lipgloss, lipstick, tinted balms, etc, what colors do you wear (and warm? cool?) and do you prefer something sheer or more opaque? How do you feel about shimmer? Pinks and pale reds tend to work best with my complexion. I prefer sheer colours and nude opaques. Are there any fancy/gourmet/special herbs or spices that you'd love to receive? ie: good quality vanilla or other extracts, vanilla beans, saffron, lavender, etc. While this would be really awesome, Australian Quarantine requirements are a bitch when it comes to that kind of thing. I’d hate for my witchee to send me costly spices and then for them to be confiscated. What's your favorite animal? Or is there one that's particularly significant to you? Dogs / wolves, elephants and bees. If you were able to get a vintage or prototype bottle from the upcoming West Coast Will Call, which one would you want? I haven’t really looked at the list, since I’m not likely to be able to go! I’d try anything that doesn’t have my doom notes of vetiver, sugarcane or booze. DVDs, Blu-Ray, both, neither? Both are fine – we have a Blu Ray player, but lots of things aren’t available on Blu Ray yet so I still buy DVDs too. Sock Dreams? What kind? (anklets, footies, etc.?) I love socks! I mostly buy above the knee socks, since I only tend to wear socks in the colder months and they help keep me warm. Since this is a price capped round, would you rather get one "big" thing or lots of "little" things or don't care? Whatever my dear witch prefers to do is fine by me. Do you like pirate-related things? It’s not something I seek out specifically, but could be kind of cool. Soaps? Be specific: if there are BPAL soaps you want to try or are dying for more of, tell all here! Also, any other companies people like or love? Villainess, maybe? Or Lush? What flavors??? Nothing specific I’m on the hunt for, but open to trying whatever. What periods of art do you love most? Like, if someone was going to get you a tapestry or a box or some other item, what period would you want it to most resonate with? the pinks and golds of Rococo? the clean geometry of Art Deco? The romanticism of Art Nouveux? The strange lines of Cubism? Probably Art Deco… it just speaks of a decadent time in history. Would you like caffeinated lollipops?: http://www.lollyphil...cks-caffeinated Not so much caffeinated ones, but unusual candy in general is cool. Copied CD's or DVD's? I don’t mind it too much if it’s just to sample something. If somebody burns a copy of a CD or movie and I really like it, I’ll probably go buy a legit copy after anyway. And if I don’t like it, then I never would have bought it anyway, so nobody’s losing out on money. I'm going to Disneyland in a couple of weeks, is there anything I can get you? I adore Disneyland, but now I’m scared and conflicted by Stellans’ mention of boycotting them. Did Disney do something douchey? Please say they didn’t, I don’t want to have to hate them! *whimper* Booze? Yay or Nay? what kinds? Yay, but not a likely candidate for shipping to Australia. Steampunk inspired items? Yay or nay? Yes, as long as they’re kind of understated and don’t look like they belong in Regretsy’s ‘Not Remotely Steampunk’ category Do you like amurigami dolls? Sure! Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies - who wins? Which do you love most? Mmm… probably pirates. Not the scary murderous kind, more like the Captain Jack Sparrow loveable rogue kind. Do you like wearing things in your hair? If so, what kind (snap clips, scrunchie, headband, etc), how big & crazy (lowkey, bigger the better), and colors. I do… cute barrettes or silk hair flowers mostly. I also often wear scarves in my hair. Piercings? - ears?? - elsewhere? Just ears – three piercings. Chocolate. With stuff in it? Are you more a plain chocolate lover, a chocolate and normal items lover (normal items being nuts, fruit, caramel) or do you like weird stuff in your chocolate? (weird stuff being curry, chilis, balsamic vinegar, floraly things) With stuff is fine, but no raisins I have nothing against raisins in principle, but why anyone would ruin chocolate with fruit is beyond me. With that said though, I’m trying to limit my sugar consumption, so I’m only eating chocolate in very limited amounts right now. surprise! the world has given you the day off. You hear that, no chores, responsibilities, or budget you have to follow. What would you do in those 24 hours? A fun day out with my husbeast and the dogs! Do you have any blogs you regularly read? The Oatmeal, vintagericrac.blogspot.com, Jezebel, Hyperbole and a Half, Regretsy. Do you need another bpal box? If so what would your fantasy one look like? Probably not. The one I have is huge and will be fine once I get around to listing my unloved bottles. Do you enjoy gardening? If so, what kind of stuff do you grow? Vegetables, flowers? In my head I enjoy gardening, but in reality I’m crap at looking after plants. They thrive for a few weeks as I lavish them with love, then I lose interest and the poor things die a brown and crispy death through inattention. Social Networking sites: I’m on Facebook, also Twitter but I’m a very irregular tweeter. favourite artists or specific paintings? Banksy, Frida Kahlo, Max Dupain, Gregory Colbert, Tamara de Lempicka, Roy Lichtenstein, Tim Burton how about mix CDs? YES! I love being enabled with new music. Hey, how do folks feel about little e-goodies, like links to stuff your witchee likes? (articles online, pix, fic, etc) For sure, I always like finding cool blogs to read or random funny stuff. Tim Tams? Yes or no? Chocolate Creme, Caramel, or Dark Chocolate? I am in TimTam heartland, so not necessary Is there any "classic" literature (Hemingway, Dickens, Elliot, Bronte, Hugo, Wilde, etc.) that you would like to add to your collection? Yes, I would be interested in just about any of those! candles and/or aroma melts: yay or nay? Yea, verily, yea /Court Jester Get your music player, what are the first 13 songs on Random? That Great Love Sound – The Raveonettes Protection – Massive Attack I Wish It Would Rain – The Temptations Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t Have Fallen in Love With) – The Buzzcocks You and Me Song – The Wannadies Take a Picture – Filter Little Green Bag – George Baker Selection Faded – Ben Harper Island in the Sun - Weezer Just in Time – Nina Simone Lola – The Kinks Fade Into You – Mazzy Star Willow Tree – The Waifs Astrological charts and interpretation/ reports? This would be AWESOME! So how does everyone feel about receiving ebooks? I don’t have an e-book reader yet. Actually I do have one on my iPhone, but it’s such a small screen that I haven’t really taken to it. Would you rather have HUGE list of things your witchee wants to try or just a highlight list? Whatever works. If it’s a huge list though, having an indication of priority would be awesome (like maybe bolding the things you want to try the most desperately). Baked goods Probably not... difficult to ship this far, and I'm cutting down sugar. If not Baked goods and you are changing eating habits..a book of recipes perhaps that will help the new eating lifestyle? New recipes are never a bad thing If you were to make an order RIGHT NOW (Not that any of you will make any bpal orders until SW is over, because you do NOT want to mess up any plans your witch might have!) What would you order (from lab, forum, DD, TradingPost, etc) I've been slack about ordering from the Lab and the Post lately, so I'd probably grab whatever sounded good from the current LEs and catch up with some of the GC bottles that have been on my wishlist for ages. The recent spate of discontinuations has me all worried I'll miss out on GC's I've been meaning to get for months... What level of nudity are you fine with on items? Nudity really doesn't bother me at all, as long as it's not exploitative. I know the ?aire asked about gently used books and if you like garage sales, but would you like other kinds of gently used items that may have come from a garage sale? Sure, I have no problems with well-cared-for second hand items. Do you like cooking seasonings, like the kind you can get in ounces sizes? If so, things you'd love to try out? If they're natural spice blends then sure, but the thing that bothers me with commercial seasonings is that they're sometimes bulked out or enhanced with artificial crap. There are some that I like, but I mostly buy fresh spices and combine them. Do you like any particular kinds of green or back teas or coffees that could also be gotten in bulk? Nothing in particular, but I always enjoy trying different tea blends. Favorite snack foods I'm on kind of a health kick right now, so I'm trying to avoid too much sugar and other refined carbs. The things I'm snacking on are nuts, dried fruit, hummus, baby cucumbers... I feel virtuous
  16. So, makes sense to consolidate question responses in a blog post again. Here we go... Baked goods: If it were up to me I'd be in favour, but I am international (long flights make for sad squashed cookies) and Australia's quarantine laws are super strict, so it's probably a no. Gifts for family/pets: That's very sweet if a witch wants to, but by no means expected. Husbeast would probably appreciate pretty much anything edible or with a slightly geeky bent. Dawgies love treats, toys they tend to either mercilessly destroy, or if indestructible, ignore. They do love to play tug-o-war with one of those thick, soft knotted rope thingies, though. Kitteh... probably treats. She likes to play with toys, but the dogs get too much in her face. Anything with catnip would probably be confiscated by customs. Testers v. larger sizes: Anything goes. My wishlist isn't very long at the moment, because lovely forumites have been so good to me. I do keep seeing the odd thing that makes me go "Ooh, must try that!" but then I don't add it to my wishlist and forget entirely what it was. Social networking: I use FB, and I also have Twitter and LJ but don't use them at all so far. Sizes Depending how it's sized, I can sometimes get away with an M in tshirts, but usually an L or XL is required to accommodate the bewbies. I prefer babydoll/fitted. As for PJ pants, the baggier the better! Hallowe'en plans? Sadly, Hallowe'en doesn't get much play downunder. If it was a work day, I would try to organise a costume day at work, but there's not much you can do with a Sunday. I might look up some Hallowe'eny type recipes and see if I can make some festive food at least. Mix CDs? Absolutely, I love music and discovering new stuff is a huge buzz for me! Girliness I feel the same way as the person who mentioned that the word girly kind of has negative connotations (sqwook maybe? It was about a squizillion pages ago). To me, girly has associations of weakness and ditziness and an unwillingness to get your hands dirty, which is emphatically not me. To other people though, maybe girly more means that you like wearing makeup and pretty dresses and have too many shoes... in which case, sign me up. It's just that I also sometimes like wearing big ol' shitkicking boots instead of heels, or going paintballing instead of shopping. Austen I love her stories in terms of plot and atmosphere, but I do find her writing style kind of heavy-going (incredibly long sentences and not always easy to follow). I think I already own all her novels, but I don't have any of the BBC series on DVD or anything, which would be kind of cool. Tarot I don't have a set of cards, but I'm definitely interested in it. Harry Potter house The sorting hat would probably waver over Ravenclaw before sticking me in Hufflepuff. Guilty TV pleasures Ha, I admit to a shameful fascination with those low-rent "OMG! Cosmetic surgery DISASTERS!" type programs. I know, dismal. And Toddlers and Tiaras for pure car crash TV. Costumes I don't really participate in any activities requiring costumes. Although I have been known to venture out of the house in a purple wig or a panda hat just for funsies. Celebrity crush Alexander Skarsgard, mmm. I would violate that man six ways to Sunday. Hello there. And some of that. Britishy goodness. Girl crush. Mix DVDs? Sure! Movies, TV, funny ads, whatever. Widescreen or formatted? Not bothered, either's fine! Music: I don't have a MP3 enabled player, but I can easily download the tracks onto my computer and just add them to my iPod. So either's fine. Scented tarts? Love them! Those scented wax pellets are also good. Lip balms? I like them, but I do have kind of a backlog at the moment. Body mods? I have 3 ear piercings, and a small tattoo on my back, but that's it. Booze I do drink but not often, and shipping booze to Australia is prohibited AFAIK. Artist / art styles Kahlo Dupain Pissarro Namatjira Colbert Froud De Lempicka Lichtenstein oh dear I'd better stop now. Snacks Anything savoury... rice crackers, nuts, cheese, olives. Dried fruit is good, if I need a sugar hit. Ebooks I don't have an e-reader yet, I'm not sure whether it's for me or not. I should really look into it, because my ever-expanding library does my poor hubby's head in. Nail polish Love it! I tend to go for earth tones and unusual neutrals, and I'm partial to sparkliness. Plushies I make them myself, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't cherish something my witch made for me Crafts to learn I've been getting into silversmithing and still want to learn to set gemstones. I'm also interested in leadlighting and glass art. Someday I'll find the time... Hallowe'en decorations Not much of an issue in Australia as Hallowe'en is still not widely celebrated. But my preference would probably be more on the spooky side - I could have lots of fun with that. Ceramic decorations sounds pretty cool. I'd probably be more likely to use Christmas decorations than Hallowe'en though, simply because people don't tend to decorate for Hallowe'en here. Mortar and pestles I like and use them. Though I already have two, plus an electric spice grinder, so I probably don't really need more. Squicky things Not that there's likely to be any chance of finding it in a SW package, but... animal fur (I don't care if it's in fashion, just... no. Faux is okay though!). I also second clowns! Creepy as hell, especially Ronald McDonald. When I was a kid, if Mum and Dad bought me one of those little boxes of McDonald's cookies, I used to flush the Ronald McDonald ones down the toilet! He was so creepy to four year old me that I couldn't even bear to consume him in cookie form. Etsy flexibility absolutely, if you can find something similar to a favourited item or are able to craft it yourself, that's awesomeness as far as I'm concerned. I'm a bit crap about maintaining my Etsy favourites anyway! Make up I wear it, I buy it, I love it. Benefit and Stila are faves, though not cheap. I love nice skincare stuff too. Disney movies So the princessy crap is not exactly empowering, but a lot of them can be fun. I love The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Up. Aladdin's good fun for the genie alone. DVD/VCR/BluRay We have BluRay, which also plays regular DVDs. We may still have a VCR kicking around in a cupboard somewhere, not sure. Custom icons I'm capable of making my own, but it would be kind of fun to be gifted them by a witch too. Socks / Sock Dreams Hell yes! Love socks. I especially have a weakness for above-the-knee or knee-length stripey numbers in not-very-adult colour combinations. I prefer them in cotton rather than that fabric that feels like thick tights though, if you know what I mean? I’ve only ever had one pair of hand-knitted socks and I didn’t love them, but I think that’s because of the yarn they were made from – it made my feet feel kind of clammy. In a nice sock yarn, I’m sure hand-knitted would be awesome. Comforting things Let’s see... I’d make myself a bowl of tomato soup (the canned stuff, fancy gourmet soup doesn’t cut it for me when it’s comfort I’m seeking) and some artery-hardening buttery toast. I’d curl up on the couch with the puppies and my snuggly brown blankie, and watch Amelie for the bazillionth time. Ahhhh! All better. Horror movies/books I was a little surprised to see a couple of people mention Pan’s Labyrinth, because I don’t think of that as a ‘horror’ movie – I suppose it is a bit scary though! I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, though that too I don’t really find scary. I’m kind of a wimp about proper horror, maybe because I have too much of an over-active imagination! As for books, it’s not a genre I read much. I did read a scary –ish book called Heart Shaped Box (by... Joe somebody? The bookshop lady told me he was related to Stephen King. Nephew perhaps?) which I quite liked. And when I was about 11 or 12 I loved those Point Fiction books, which were pretty scary at the time Name/description of custom blend I kind of blanked on this in the questionnaire, so let’s see if I can make a better attempt... One of my happiest things is cooking for the people I love, and standing around the kitchen chatting and laughing. So my custom blend is called Bitchin’ Kitchen – sweet wine, honey, olive oil and spices, underscored with skin musk and a whiff of splattered, well-loved cook books. Comic books I’ve never got into them. That’s not to say I’m completely closed to the idea or anything, but the more traditional kind (Batman and whatnot) have never really appealed. There seems to be some pretty cool stuff out there now though that I would maybe like if I got into it. Warm drinks I’m definitely a tea girl – I love Earl Grey and herbal blends the most. I don’t like milky drinks at all, so I can’t do hot chocolate or chai latte or anything like that, even though they smell good. I do occasionally drink an espresso, but I mostly avoid coffee because I don’t think it’s that good healthwise and I hate coffee breath Symbols/totems I identify closely with dogs/wolves, but on a symbolic level I love bees and antelope – there’s something about both of them that speaks to my spirit. I also like the ankh and often wear it on pendants. BPAL boxes I think I’m okay on this score... I bought a nice wooden display box for my BPALses. It is filling quite quickly though! Fantasy character/animal/being Are we counting the True Blood universe? Because... I’ll be Sookie Stackhouse please. For obvious tall muscular Swedish reasons. If you could go back to any point in time, where, when, why? I’d go back to 1930’s Mexico and be Frida Kahlo’s BFF, because she was awesome. Hallowe’en treats As Hallowe’en is minor here, we don’t really see special Hallowe’en candy. I actually just yesterday got an email with Hallowe’en stuff from the specialist American grocery store I sometimes go to, and ZOMG! I’m going. If my witch sent me Hallowe’en candy (or recipes for Hallowe’en treats) that would be super fun. What movie scared the bejeezus out of you as a child? I actually found The Wizard of Oz scary, but not for the witches - I thought that the Tinman and the Scarecrow were really super creepy looking (I still think scarecrows are really freaky!). I also remember being a bit creeped out by some parts of The Labyrinth, but I haven't seen it in a long while now so I don't remember which. Name a couple of sites you frequent other than this one. The Oatmeal, Melbourne Water (I know it's really tragic, but we've been in drought for over 10 years and when it rains I like to check the water levels - GEEK ALERT! ), a few food blogs, numerous shopping sites. If you could have any creature (real or imaginary) as a pet, what would it be? Nibbler from Futurama! And a unicorn to ride to work, the traffic is appalling (I assume unicorns can fly or magically teleport or something). Do you like the Muppets? Which is your favorite? I *adore* the muppets! So very hard to pick a favourite. Animal, Statler and Waldorf, the Swedish Chef (bork!bork!bork!), the Spanish Dancing Chickens... heh. But most of all, the cat from ! It's something to do with the gleeful expression on his face as he goes by, it has me and my hubby in stitches every time. Comfort Rereads? I reread books all the time! My husband hates it, because when he starts whining about how books are taking over the house and can't I just throw some out, I tell him no because I'll read them again. The ones I read over and over tend to be books that make me feel good, not super intellectual stuff. Will you be going out of town? No plans to do so. What animal would your daemon be? Alternately, your patronus. The quiz designates me a 'multi-faceted soul', which I find appropriate - I can be hard to pigeonhole. Of the animals suggested, elephant and wolf are the ones I feel strongest about. What's YOUR favorite word? Hullaballoo Steampunk, yay or nay? I like. I'd probably not wander about in a full outfit, but the aesthetic definitely appeals. I love steampunk jewellery. Dried Honeycrisp apples? I would love these so damn much, but I can see non-packaged dried fruit getting confiscated by quarantine unfortunately Knitted item would be lovely, maybe a scarf as my last witch made me a hat. Any sort of berry colour would be nice. No fibre allergies, although 100% wool can sometimes be kind of scratchy. Gift Certificate: physical or email? Umm. Probably email, although gift certificates are kind of a tricky area in general, as not all etailers will ship to Australia. Yankee Candles? Well, I've never had the opportunity to test any of their range, but I do like scented candles in general. A local candle chain, Dusk, used to make a scent called St Moritz (peppermint and sandalwood) which I adored, but then they went and discontinued it. I was a sad panda. Zuni animal fetish Oh, those are kind of cool. Ram or deer, I think. Glow in the dark radishes? Ha! Very cute - not the kind of thing you'd wear every day perhaps, but good for a giggle. Cake or Frosting? Frosting is definitely the highlight. Cake truffles? Sounds yummy! Mini bath/body products? Sure. I probably won't be travelling anywhere before next year, but these are always handy to have. Vampire shows, literature, etc? I like most vampire stuff. I've probably already adequately expressed that I'm a True Blood fan. Twilight and Vampire Diaries I can take or leave. The Anne Rice stuff is cool. To my shame, I've never watched Buffy I keep meaning to buy a box set. Video games we have a Wii... the only game I'm really keen to get at the moment is the oldskool Super Mario for Wii. I love Super Mario, the tune is even my ringtone sometimes. Flowers/plants/seeds I like the idea of this, but unless you're also in Australia, dear witch, all things botanical are sadly verboten. Marzipan? is not really for me - I find it a little sickly. 3 dream BPALs: Lessee... I'm dead keen for some Rose Red, really hoping it's back in the Yules this year. And ever since I was gifted a few drops by the lovely TwilightEyes, I've been jonesing for more Banshee Beat, but this is somewhat unrealistic given the stuff's rarer than dodo poo. From the GC, I've been meaning for ages to buy a bottle of Lucy's Kiss, and I also need a backup of Schrodinger's Cat. That's four. Oh well. International treats From the US, I like Reese's, Almond Joys, York peppermint patties (thanks Tarty!) and those savoury pretzel chunk snack things. Oh, and Old Bay (thanks greylen!). From the UK, Jaffa Cakes and Walker's crisps, and I love plain McVities digestives, but I can get those in the supermarket. I love everything German except for Kloese, and especially Lebkuchen. BPTP 'ween update Actually, I haven't ordered anything yet, purely because it all looks wonderful and I need to set aside some time to go through it all and prioritise. Soundtracks Hmm, I'm not sure about that... haven't seen many movies lately to covet soundtracks. I could kind of do with a new copy of the Amelie soundtrack, my constant use and abuse of the current one has rendered it scratchified and skippy in certain places. Last.fm I don't have an account there, but if this issue is important to you, dear witch, just let me know and I'll go make one. Any countries you're interested in? Only freakin' all of them! I love to travel soooo much... if only Australia wasn't so far from everywhere that it costs a fortune in airfares. So in no particular order, here is a list of countries that interest me. Let's start with Europe: Germany (again), Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland, Russia, France, Spain, Slovenia, Norway, UK (again). Africa: Malawi, Morocco, Uganda. North and South America: Cuba (again), Canada, USA (particularly Oregon and Kentucky, don't know why), Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Haiti, Guatemala. Asia: India (again), Korea, Iran. Oceania: New Zealand, Palau. I've probably left some out, but you get the idea. Homemade bath products absolutely! If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? Definitely! I think slightly goofy, not-quite-as-intended things are actually really special. Are you a foodie? Yeah... with a chef for a Dad it's pretty unavoidable. I'm not too wanky about it though - I like simple food with fresh ingredients. Sport I'm not hugely into sport to be honest (bad Aussie!). Husband loves golf, cricket and Australian Rules football. I don't mind going and watching sport live, but watching it on TV makes me want to stab my eyeballs after about 20 minutes. Holiday decorations Christmas is really the only holiday I decorate for, but I do love decorating for Christmas. My husband indulges me on my annual trips to The Christmas Cave. I like quite traditional stuff for Christmas. Journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? Absolutely! *love* I prefer unlined though, because I like to combine both writing and sketching. Partials are fine by me! I love so many BPALs that the chances of me ever using a full bottle are pretty limited anyway. latest lab update? Ummm, I already went kind of nuts on the weenie update, with bottles and decants, so I'm probably good there. Though I didn't order a decant of Los Angeles and now I kind of wish I had. Craft kits Why not? I'll give anything crafty a go. Handmade v. purchased Dear and special witch, whatever is right for you is right for me. If you're a crafter I would be thrilled and honoured to receive handmade gifts. But if you're the anti-craft, that's fine too - not everybody's into making things. I will appreciate whatever you send, truly. Fave soap etailer? I love Tarty's Paintbox Soapworks stuff - I have tried (or have standing by) Orange Crush, Gingermilk, A Walk in the Woods, The Olive Tree, White Cotton Sheets, Resolution, Sweet Cheeks and they are all pretty awesome. I haven't tried Villainess or Haus of Gloi, they sound nice too. Vintage homewares / decorations hell yeah! With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? Again, whatever works for you, witch of mine. And whatever fits best with your plans and budget. Makeup prefs I think I already mentioned my abiding fondness for Benefit. I also like MAC, Stila and any of those online mineral pigment blenders. I'm very pale, and bright lips make me look either like a clown or a toddler who got into Mommy's makeup bag, so I wear neutral lips and concentrate more on eye makeup. Contact prefs Semi-regular contact is nice if my witch can manage it, but I'll try not to be too needy if s/he needs some downtime now and again. Life happens, right? Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? Scentbase (which is awesome, yay for Cam!), but I've been slack about updating it for awhile now. I will try to set aside some time to do that. Maple candy Never had any, but I'd give it a try, oh yes I would. Bacon+chocolate As above! Tea-cozies Don't have a tea cozie, but if my witch sent one I'd use it. I kind of have a small tea pot collection going, so there are various shapes and sizes in the mix. Unwelcome foods Fish and bananas. Lucky for me I wasn’t born in a small pacific island nation huh? Digital subscriptions If I’m honest with myself, I’d forget to read it. So probably a no on this one. Chocolate or other types of candy? I like both. I’m fond of sour candies, and anything chocolately that is not sullied by raisins. I don’t dislike raisins, but they shouldn’t be in chocolate. Nuts and chocolate are good, especially hazelnut. Nom! I’m not a huge fan of liqueur chocolates though. Lloose leaf or tea bags? Tea bags are nice for convenience’s sake, and I’d probably use them more frequently because I can take them to work. Loose leaf is nice too though, and feels more special. It might be harder to get through Aussie quarantine though. Knitted / crocheted items My last witchee sent me a knitted hat, so if my witch is a knitter, socks or a scarf or a shawl would be awesome. I’m only a beginner knitter myself, so I’ll be impressed by pretty much anything. Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? Hubs and I were watching the movie “The Blind Side” the other night and he turned to me at one point and said, ‘My god... she’s exactly like you!’ in relation to Sandra Bullock’s character. So make of that what you will. Caring but bossy, I suppose! Kitchen items? I would like a microplane zester. Or one of those little triangular tools that you strip bits out of carrots and cucumbers with so that they look like little flowers when you cut them. Or I could always use more measuring spoons. Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? Both studio and live are great, they have different things to offer. I prefer explicit to edited – you know exactly what they’re saying anyway, so I don’t see the point in blanking out the profanity. If I don’t like the content of a song, I’ll just not listen to it, rather than wanting some watered-down version. Animal type/breed My dogs are both pointer types, but that doesn’t mean breeding is an important consideration for me. Bella may possibly be purebred, but Wile E. is definitely of questionable pedigree, and they’re both shelter dogs. Bonnie is a purebred British Shorthair (we adopted her for $50 from a breeder who couldn’t breed with her because she was too small for the standard. She even has a few show ribbons in a drawer somewhere – from before we got her). I admit her breed makes especially adorable cats (chubby and stumpy and oh-so-floofy) but I’d love her just as much if she was a basic moggie too. So what I’m trying to say, in a long and rambling fashion, is that I respect breed characteristics but breeding is not particularly important to me personally. Favourite flowers/plants Flowers: Sunflowers, tulips, cherry blossom. Trees: Maples, Ghost Gums, Chinese Elms. Plants: Ferns. Herbs. Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? Proverb? "Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you." (attributed variously to Walt Whitman or Helen Keller) It sums up the way I want to live, and this is where my avatar and screen name come from too - sunflowers always turn to face the sun, and if you make a literal translation of the Spanish for sunflower, that's what it means, turn to the sun (girar = to turn, sol = sun). Spawn preferences? ♫ Spawn-free , as free as the wind blows… ♪ Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that. Funny YouTube recs are always good. And I do love a good LOLcat. Last meal One of Dad’s roasts – the comfort of the familiar. NaNoWriMo? Never tried it. The idea appeals in theory, but I know myself well enough to know I’d never have the discipline. Dollar store knick knacks Are cute, but pls don’t overdo it, dear witch – I’m not the greatest housekeeper in the world, so I try to avoid clutter where I can. Manga/anime The only one I ever remember having watched is Astro Boy! Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Sure! Try me. Crafting instead of buying (slight differences notwithstanding) Go for it. Sock preferencesI really like long ones (above the knee or knee length) but I always have use for ankle socks too. How do people feel about word magnets I think they’re great! Scarf preferences I’m not too fussy really. I guess I’d like something fairly long, maybe skinny to medium in width. But honestly, not picky. Recipes Love them, pls share your faves if you’d like to. What kind of a cook/baker are you? A reckless one! No, not really. But while I respect recipes to an extent, if I think it would taste better with more chilli or I feel like chucking in a handful of rosemary, you better believe I’m gonna do it. Experimental is a good term for my approach, I suppose. Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? I really like cooking, but the Mr and I tend to be time poor, so I’m not always in the mood to be creative in the kitchen. I’m not a snob about food – if you have all day to simmer a homemade soup then that’s all well and good, but convenience foods have their place. If I send you something home made would you like the recipe for it? Sure, if you’re willing to share. But if the recipe is a treasured one from your great Granny that you’d rather keep just in the family, that’s cool too. How about home made mixes or kits? Kind Sounds great, but again with the customs/quarantine thing. Tea prefs I like most herbal teas, especially lemon or gingery ones. I like flavoured black teas, particularly Earl Grey, and my favourite tea company makes a crème brulee flavoured black tea which is ZOMGAMAZING. Green tea... TBH, it’s hit and miss with me. I like the jasmine ones usually, but I find green teas in general can be kind of bitter. Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd’s that you’ve been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? Yes! Along with a few things I have on VHS or DVD but would love to get on blu ray. There’s a few on my Amazon wishlist. I would die of happiness if my witch sent me Fraggle Rock DVDs. And yeah, used is fine. Possets update Never tried Possets. Frankly I’m reluctant to try any other perfume oil retailers than BPAL, because I’m already doing enough damage just with BPAL. Would you like a custom/altered toy I’ve seen Roogna’s tricked-out MLPs and I think they’re awesome! I’d like something like that if it was arty like Roogna’s stuff, but in general I’m not really a collector. Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Haven’t tried any of them, but I’d like to. Anne Taintor, anyone? Sure, I love retro! Which web comics do you enjoy? Natalie Dee, Married to the Sea, The Oatmeal, Hyperbole and a Half. Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? Yeah, I like little silk flowers and nice clips. Alligator or Ibis clips always come in handy. Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? Nope, no need to censor or child-proof anything that comes my way. Knitted/crocheted things Yup, pretty much anything. How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? Fun, love it. Violette Market see ‘Possets’... Favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) I think my preferred climate doesn’t exist anywhere! I like the temperate climate in Melbourne, but I wish the extremes were less... uh, extreme. Specifically, if the temperature never went above 28C, like, ever, I would be so happy. But I also don’t want Antarctic winters. What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? Silver jewellery (as in not just wire-wrapping and stuff, but hand-smithed jewellery). I’ve taken a basic course, but still need to practise lots and learn how to set stones. Conjure Oils See ‘Possets’ and ‘Violette Market’... Book Fair/Comic Con scents I’m trying very hard not to obsess over event exclusives (or even read the descriptions). That way madness lies. Address /phone books Not really... I love the idea, but I end up never using them. I have several dotted around the house with maybe 4 or 5 addresses in them. Do you read/like fantasy? I like Gaiman and Harry Potter. Other than that I haven’t read a hell of a lot of fantasy, but I’m definitely open to it. If my witch is a fantasy reader, I’d love some recommendations. Soaps Yes, love ‘em! I want to try all Tarty’s fall LEs from Paintbox Soapworks, and I’d love to try some more of the Slips and Sorbettos too. I’ve been holding off ordering anything though, because I know Paintbox is a favourite with Switch Witchers! And I keep meaning to try Villainess and some of the other Etsy B&B etailers too. I’ll get around to it sometime. There’s only so much soap one person can use. Arcana see Possets, Violette Market, Conjure Oils... BPAL bottles? Will have to count when I go home. But I would guesstimate somewhere around 80 – 100 maybe? Exercise programs I’m probably okay on this score. I’m not patient enough for yoga, and my dog stared at me like I was a freak while I tried to do a Zumba video once. I think I’ll just stick with my dog walks and my treadmill, I’m to uncoordinated for most everything else. Emily Autumn? Haven’t heard of her. Will Google later. Girl Scout cookies? We don’t have Girl Scouts here, we have Girl Guides. Which is kind of the same thing, except that their cookies SUCK. Well not really, but they are very plain. US Girl Scout cookies sound awesome by comparison. What's your take on homemade apple butter? Want some?Yes please! Garlic Love it. I think I prefer it in savoury things, but I’ve never tried garlic chocolate or anything so I suppose I can’t say definitively that I wouldn’t like it. Zombies? They interest me from a professional perspective! Srsly, whoever’s doing their PR is kicking ass, their brand awareness has skyrocketed in the past few years Co-branding with Jane Austen was a smart move for both of them. Blooddrop See Possets, Violette Market, Conjure Oils, Arcana... Shoes I love them. I wouldn’t expect my witch to buy them for me though! Do you like paper dolls (new or vintage) or coloring in books? Never thought much about paper dolls... vintage ones would probably be cool to scrapbook with though. Colouring books I loved as a kid, but they triggered my random OCD tendencies. If I went outside the lines by accident, you’d better believe that whole page was getting ripped out of the book. Do you like weird scary things as traditionally girly fashion items like heels and handbags? I kinda do! I enjoy freaking people out on occasion. What song is on heavy rotation for you right now? At the moment, it’s everything on Billy Bragg and Wilco’s Mermaid Avenue album. I had a copy years ago that got stolen out of DH’s car when we lived in a crappy neighbourhood, but I re-purchased it recently and I’m loving re-acquainting myself with it. Are you coveting any of the NYCC atmospheric sprays? British Blondes sounds good. If you could get any one thing hand-painted from your witch, what would it be and what would be on it? Anything really. I love receiving other people’s artwork! Naturally-dyed yarn Oh dear god yes. If you have played before, what are some of the most memorable things you've gotten? What really made you go WOW? If you haven't played, same thing, but not limited to SW. My former witch Tarty was so good to me! She made me an awesome slouchy woolly hat that I adore. She found me some kerokerokeroppi stickers to heal the trauma I suffered at the age of 11 when my collection was stolen. She sent me Napoleon Dynamite sweatbands! And many other awesome things, but those ones particularly tickled me. Do you collect stones/rocks? I'm talking like "semi" precious stones, ie moonstone, bloodstone, quartz ect. Not so much at the moment... I am hoping to take another silver smithing workshop to learn to set stones though. Amigurumi critter Ephelant or bumblebee please! Local/tourist item? Yez! The cheesier the better. Venomous Villains? I took a look and most of it looks pretty awesome. But with my skin tone, colours that dark and rich would truly make me look like a cartoon villain. Good for Hallowe’en, but maybe not for everyday. Last Unicorn? You know, I saw the movie as a kid and didn’t like it so much. I think it was just a little too bittersweet for my eight year old self. I’d love to read the book though, and I’m definitely interested in the scents once I know what the notes are. If you could make a scent that represents where you live (or have lived), what would be the ingredients? Ooh, fun question! Let’s see... Perth: Salt air, baked asphalt, hibiscus and sunscreen. Tasmania: Ozone, woodsmoke, sassafras, rich earth and a breath of eucalyptus. Adelaide: Wine, butter, amber and dry grass. London: Tea roses, beeswax, sugar cookies and soot. Melbourne: Cafe latte, vanilla, spice and frost. Are you in need of Roller bottles or anything of the like? I have some roller bottles, but they’re 5-10ml ones... I’d love some teeny imp-sized ones! Is there one scent that is your goto for comfort on a bad stressful day? Like the perfume equivilent of a security blankie? Oberon or The Lights of Men’s Lives are my comfort scents (Oberon smells like the bubble baths my Mum used to run for me when I was little, and TLOML just smells like all things cosy). And when things have been crappy and I really need a happy, pants-free day, I turn to Black Cat. It hasn’t let me down. What are you going to be for Halloween? Probably nothing But a friend’s having a costume party in November, for which I’m leaning toward Morticia. Random weird things I covet Dia de los Muertos anything would be awesome. Villainess update I’d be glad to try anything from Villainess. Purses--lunchbags, etc? I love purses, fabric shopping bags, etc. Husband would argue I have too many, but I disagree. Favourite notes Between what's listed in my profile and my questionnaire, my witch should have a pretty good idea of the notes that work for me. But if there's one thing I've learned through my BPAL-worship, it's that I can rarely assume a scent will or won't work based on the list of notes alone... so I'm open to trying anything. Sugar skulls That would be cool! I love la Dia de los Muertos, it's philosophy and the associated imagery and paraphernalia. I find Mexican culture really interesting in general, and I really like the Mexican idea of death as just another stage of life. So, who here loves pomegranates? Are the good as a fruit, a flavoring or just a scent? All of the above, I love pomegranate! The story of Demeter and how she came to spend half of the year with Hades after eating pomegranate seeds is my favourite Greek legend. Haunt Update? Never tried it. Sounds pretty popular though! Do you have a preferred weight of yarn to work in? Lace, sock, worsted, bulky, handspun with variation? I'm new to knitting, so I'll have a crack at anything. I particularly like soft, chunky yarns though - they're so snuggly! I'm not a big fan of the ones that have knobbly bits attached to them though. Anyone like little seasonal decorative wreaths? Like gravevine wreaths embellished with silk flora, etc.? Sure, sounds pretty. Snuggies? No thanks... I have a nice squishy brown blankie I huddle under - we're LIKETHIS, me and my blankie. I like to think that, as a semi-intelligent bipedal hominid, things such as walking to the kitchen with a blanket draped over my shoulders or extricating my hands to change the TV channel are not beyond my powers of problem solving.

    Lotus Moon 2010

I really wish I'd bought more of this. In the bottle: Slightly herbal with a bit of citrus sparkle. Fresh, but gentle. Wet: The citrusy note really came to the fore at first. It has a very grapefruit-like character, but I'm assuming it's the tartness of the pomegranate. Dry: The citrus has dropped back and everything is nicely blended. Frankincense has been known to really amp on me, but it's behaving itself nicely here. This one sticks close to the skin, but in a good way - like a secret you're not ready to share. A slightly powdery finish, but not in an overpowering granny-talc way. Verdict: Lotus Moon is really not what I was expecting from the notes - I thought it would be a bit deeper and spicier. There is a slight spiciness in the background, but as a whole this blend actually feels quite herbal to me. All the same, this a gorgeous scent. Soft and calming and feminine. It would be perfect for when you're in a dreamy, contemplative mood.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Has anyone noticed if Oberon changes significantly as it ages? I got an imp and loved it - for me, the smell was a lot like a sudsy bubble bath (I'm possibly the only person in the world who wants to smell like that, but there was just something about the scent I found happy and comforting). I bought a bottle off the forum but it smells quite different - kind of powdery and less fresh and soapy. It's not nasty or anything, just not the scent that I fell in love with from the imp. The bottle is the amber glass, but looked like it might have been a year or two old - the label has kind of a matte finish instead of the slightly glossy labels I've mostly seen, and the lid is a bit different to my other bottles. So I'm figuring maybe it could be an age thing. Also, the bottle had leaked quite a lot in transit even though it was well taped, which made me think perhaps the lid doesn't fit very well and the scent has changed due to oxidation. Any thoughts from more experienced BPALers?

    Midnight on the Midway (2006)

Mmm... so good. Rich, sweet, softly spicy and just a faint hint of smoke - this quite the sexy carnival! It's sugary, but somehow not really in a foody way - just a sweetess behind the florals and the incense. I love this.

    Door

Judging from the rest of the reviews, I think my skin is doing something unusual with this. It goes on quite sweet and almost floral, but I very quickly get a strong incensy note (you know that dryish, slightly pine-y, faintly camphor-smelling stuff they use in churches? That kind of vibe). It reminds me a bit of the temple incense smell of Kathmandu, though not as strong. Is this the nicotiana? I don't know. It's not an unpleasant smell, but I don't love it enough for a bottle. Definitely not getting the honey-chamomile fest others have mentioned.

    '80s Prom Scent?

I think the 80s smelled like hairspray and Revlon's Charlie... I don't know if there's a BPAL equivalent, but I kind of hope not

    Sudha Segara

I was expecting something creamy and delicious with a nice gingery bite, and it was... but a quick fader, unfortunately. Three hours later, even if I put my nose right up to my wrist there is just the faintest hint of ginger. Aside from the fast fade, lovely.

    Pele

I really love Pele! It's a stronger floral than I usually like, and the first hour is a bit intense, but after that it's so soft and breezy and feminine - just beautiful. Definitely reminiscent of lush tropical forests and warm sea breezes. I will definitely be getting a bottle of this, and I can see it being the perfect go-to scent for a summery day.

    Morocco

I was surprised by this - I was expecting it to be quite heavy on the spice and resiny notes, kind of like Scherezade. Instead, this is really floral on me. Exotic and pretty, but not all all what I imagined. I do like it, but if I smelled it not knowing it was called Morocco it would certainly not have conjured up that image in my head. Could be just my chemistry I suppose.

    The Lights of Men's Lives

Wonderful! This is one I ordered unsniffed because I was confident I'd like it... I've been doing that a lot lately In this instance, it paid off - and then some. This is the loveliest scent... sweet beeswax candles, bottled comfort. It reminds me of the kind of shop you wander into by chance in a small town, the sort of place that sells natural, locally-produced things and makes you feel instantly at home. I don't really get any smoke from this, save a very faint whiff of that slightly acrid smell you get when you've just blown a candle out. Mostly it's just creamy beeswax. A wonderful scent for Autumn or Winter to make you feel cosy and comforted.
