    Dragon's Blood

Purchased from Babypopje! My preconceived notions were that this would be a strong cross between cherry, rose, and patchouli. I was in a hurry this morning so I slathered liberally. In Bottle: LILAC HELLO On skin: Lilac and jasmine maybe? Very floral and not at all like what I was expecting Drydown: My brother said this has tremendous throw (in so many words), and I have to agree. It's also mellowed down quite a bit, and has a bit of a resinous spicy quality now. Still very floral though, I would have never thought this to be so light and purple smelling. Very odd. Verdict: The jury is out. I like it, but I was hoping it'd smell of ethereal power and musk. Perhaps I'll have to look into it again. Curiously enough, I DID start getting menstrual cramps while driving along and smelling myself, wonder if that has any merit. Also, my sinuses frowned when I said "I think I'll inhale deeply to pick up anything I'm missing."

    Bathsheba

Purchased from Babypopje In Bottle: A familiar floral (must be carnation), with a spicy scent On skin: More of that spice! It seems like clove. Very spicy, warm, and a tad earthy. Drydown: Mellows to a more complex spiced musk, and the bit I dabbed on my chest went juicy somehow?? Must be the plum. Oh- and here's the carnation sweetening the deal. Verdict: It doesn't scream LOVE ME but I do rather enjoy it. ETA: I SMELL YUMMY

    Vixen

Purchased from Babypopje! In bottle: Patchouli with a sweet ginger undertone. On skin: My nose went wonky for a second, because I swear I smelt something reminiscent of Pain, like an herbal mint tone! This is pure ginger, freshly grated by someone wearing patchouli. Drydown: More of a sweet floral peeks out, mellowing the ginger and playing off the patchouli very nicely. After my chemistry gets ahold of this it becomes SEXY, certainly lives up to its name! Verdict: I JUST LOVE VIXEN. I could see this becoming one of my favorites, if not THE favorite. At first I worried it would be more like "health foodie yoga instructor" but gladly I was mistaken Wouldn't mind acquiring more of this scent!

    Nosferatu

Purchased from Babypopje In bottle: Wow! Fresh loamy scent with a hint of sweetness creeping in. SO excited On skin: Ooooh the loam blooms into a complex dusty scent. And there's the wine peeking through. SEXY DEAD. Is that possible? Hey, I would so get arrested for this stuff. Drydown: As this dries down I caught a bit of bloody saltiness in the wine, which mellowed to a sweet dusty incense. I love what wine does on my skin Verdict: I am in LOVE. Not only does this smell amazing on me, and I love the back story, this also reminds me of my grandmother who passed last year. She loved vampires (the original kind, not the Twilight kind, I have a funny story about that but I won't bore y'all), and I know she would have loved the macabre beauty of this scent. I see a vat of this in my future <3

    The Hesperides

The Hesperides are the Nymphs of the Evening who dwell in a verdant garden located in the Arcadian Mountains, guarded by the terrible three-headed dragon, Ladon. Within their garden lives the tree that bears Hera’s sacred Golden Apples. Their perfume is that of sturdy oak bark, dew-kissed leaves, twilight mist and crisp apple. Frimp from Babypopje! In the bottle: Is that bubblegum? Some kind of oddly medicinal bubblegum scent... but I know better than to let the initial bottle scent turn me off to Beth's creations :3 On Skin: Much better, it becomes more of a ripe fruit scent, I thought peach at first but then apple decided to speak a little louder. There's a honeyish quality about the sweetness that I really enjoy! Drydown: Definitely apples. All kinds of crazy throw during the first few hours, compared to oils I've tried in the past. I kept smelling apples and thought it was some weird combination of the lotion I was wearing and the oil, but it's ALL the oil. A very crisp, cool apple scent but not childlike in the least. Verdict: I wish the scent lasted longer, because it's rather nice I'm not sure whether it was my skin or my nose that ate up these apples so quickly, but I'll be sure to wear this again!

    The Deep Ones

Purchased from Galahad Let's tempt fate by reviewing this scent during Hurricane Sandy, shall we? In Bottle: Murky water, slight incense quality- very much like the China Rain incense/oil my mom used to enjoy On Skin: Bright soapy detergent aquatic. A hint of something darker in the background, almost ozone. Drydown: Clean detergent smell, very fresh. Whoa, one wrist just went salty. And the bit I swiped in my cleavage has somehow gone floral. Like an assortment of flower petals soaking in seawater. Verdict: Unconventional morphing scent! I rather like it, overall. I get the 'clean' vibe very strongly from it, probably my association with detergent and the like. I do enjoy it, though it's not as dark as I would have hoped.

    Fallen

Purchased from Rhetoricians ages ago In Bottle: Slightly sharp floral with a light musky background On skin: an odd undertone comes out that I can't place, I'll have to look at the scent description again. Otherwise this is all floral on me. Drydown: soft floral, I think lavender purple when I wear this. Verdict: It's nice enough, but I don't see this as a particularly devilish scent. The violets and vetiver don't anger my nose the way Bluebeard did, so that's an interesting note.

    Haunted

I purchased this ages ago, from Rhetoricians In Bottle: Musk, but sharp- smells like it would fade to a rubbing alcohol scent, which worries me a bit. I must press onward though! On skin: Becomes smoother, almost like... evil baby powder haha Drydown: a lovely dark feminine musk Verdict: I do love wearing this scent, though it doesn't particularly stand out to me among my stash.

    Danse Macabre

I remembered where I got this! From callmepenelope In bottle: Moss musk, a heady herbal? Drying mildew? What on earth am I smelling? And I do mean earth. On skin: Weird, almost sweet dark herb. It's an odd skin scent that I can't place, it feels like rolling in moss under a shedding spruce tree. Drydown: More incensey wood peeking out, a pine/spruce spice scent if that makes sense? The smell I get walking through the woods sometimes. Verdict: I do adore this scent, but it's very solemn. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since it's a funereal oil! I could see this as a masculine scent, for sure, but I enjoy it all the same

    Kitsune-Tsuki

Another from my purchase last year from Sir Galahad. In bottle: Juicy sweet and fresh, with a slight floral tinge? Almost edible smelling. On skin: More of the floral comes out to play, almost reminds me of Peach Moon 2009 somewhere in the background, a woody sort of smell. Drydown: Mmm incensey exotic floral. Love it! Verdict: I do adore this scent. It's quietly seductive, in a refined way. Coyly peeking out from behind a paper fan and batting her eyelashes while a small knife glints behind her back.

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

Danse Macabre is also very interesting, I'm wearing it today and am having a hard time placing the smell... musky musty herbal? It's always a little unsettling but I can't help but wear it

    Philologus

I finally got around to reviewing this one! I decided to wear it today because I had a test hoping it'd help me out. Purchased this a long time ago from Sir Galahad the Awesome, and the label says it was decanted from Absinthetics. I have no complaint. In Bottle: Musky, musty, slightly sharp herbal note On Skin: Dry herbal, almost... waxy? A cool metal tone in it that reminds me of Kataniya, the Clockwork Woman, and an undertone of a less-overpowering Bluebeard- must be vetiver? Drydown: At first it was balmlike, and had a warm creaminess to it like smelling melting candlewax and the hint of flame. As it warmed to my body it became like a powdery version of Kataniya, then mellowed into this gorgeous old book scent. The almost vanilla scent of old books and warm wax! What a beautiful scent. Verdict: While it didn't help me with my test, I still found it absolutely wonderful as a scent. I usually wear this with my more scholarly cosplays, too.

    High-Strung Daisies

Frimp from a purchase from the almighty Amberite In bottle: Summer in a field, carefree blue skies, candy-ish scent? Bubblegum... innocence. On skin: Oooh decent throw. Candied floral. Drydown: "Wow that smells good!"- comment from my brother, who isn't a big scent guy An almost spicy sweet grass scent comes out. Verdict: Such a pretty, summery scent! I'd wear this with a sundress for sure. Makes me long for summer...

    Kataniya, the Clockwork Woman

Decant purchased from the almighty Amberite In the bottle: Smells like Calvin Klein, or Davidoff Cool Water. Something like that. On skin: Tangy aquatic floral Drydown: Whoa my thumb smells like an old television! That slight electric charge and metal. My wrists have softened to a cross between that cool perfume scent and the taste of a cold metal spoon on the back of my tongue. A spicier scent peeks through, and I can almost picture the taste of copper coils. This melds into my skin, becoming the sky before a storm, a wrought iron fence- very nice. Verdict: AMAAAAAAZING! Especially once my chemistry affects it. I am no man's property.

    Jailbait

I got this from the ever-so-lovely callmepenelope In the bottle: Cherry Blow pop! On my skin: HARDCORE Bazooka bubblegum, with a hint of... band-aid? Cinnamon? What is that? Drydown: This little girl just spritzed on some enticing perfume, holy cow. The bubblegum's been spit out and the red lips painted on. I could see wearing this as an everyday perfume now as opposed to earlier. Verdict: The beginning frightened me just a little, what with the eau du band-aid peeking through, but as my chemistry affected it, it became most wearable. I can't see myself getting through that beginning very often, however... it's still a nice, playful scent. I'll use up the imp eventually, but no 5ml of this in my future.

    Elegba

Got this as a freebie in an order from the ever-so-lovely callmepenelope In bottle: Yummy spicy butterscotch! On skin: At first my nose freaked and went "Cilantro! AGH!" but that was definitely the alcohol of a golden rum. If I hold my wrist far off it smells of coconut milk, but with my nose right near it goes distinctly sharp, cilantro then RUM Drydown: Spiced coconut rum, pretty decent throw. It made my morning tea seem even more divine! (Green Ginger tea I got as a gift from callmepenelope, incidentally.) Later in the day I'm coconutty like Banana Boat tanning oil, which reminds me of my mother slathering herself with it when I was a child. Verdict: After a while all of the alcohol sting I get goes out of this, leaving nothing but warm spiciness, of what I assume is a mixture of the tobacco and coconut. It's kind of amazing as a holiday scent, in my personal opinion! And the touch of nostalgia I get really makes this one of my new favorites, for any time of the year.

    Katrina van Tassel

I got this as a sniffie in an order from the ever-so-lovely callmepenelope It has just enough to apply lightly at the wrists perhaps a few times. In bottle: Roses! Fresh cut roses, but these definitely aren't deep red, sexual roses. Just pretty. On skin: Sweetened roses, light and pretty scent, reminds me of a love spell I tried out in my youth. Definitely white roses. Drydown: More of a creamy scent came out, skin that's been freshly bathed in a milk and honey bath with rose petals strewn across the water. Verdict: Such a soothing scent, very much a second skin scent on drydown. Perhaps someday I'll attempt to acquire a bottle, or at least a decant.

    Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat

A sparkly, batty little scent: green tea, melon, mint, lime rind, and champagne grape with lemon balm, mullein, and toadflax. Got this from the ever-so-lovely callmepenelope In bottle: Melon/lime soda! On skin: Mmm! A bit of something musky, maybe a bit of lemon balm, comes out and tones the juiciness down to what reminds me of a Yankee Candles scent Drydown: Oh wow, is that the champagne grape that's making things so bubbly? One of my wrists went a bit piney, how absurd! As I let this sit on me all day, it smells like a green vanilla, if that makes sense... Verdict: This is a melon scent that I can actually get behind! I usually have an aversion to melon and cucumber-melon scents, but this is such a juicy, cool/fresh scent. The warm undertones really make this scent delightful.

    White Rabbit

I got this from the ever-so-lovely callmepenelope In the bottle: Is it just me, or did this seem like gummy bears inside my mother's purse? But not in a bad way. On me: Oooh this is yummy. Buttery, milky ginger... I get a bit of tea and linen if I inhale deeply. Drydown: A delicious, milky spicy scent spilled over freshly washed linens. Fabulous! Verdict: I just adore this scent. It's foody without being overpowering, which I definitely enjoy, and it's intriguing enough to keep me sniffing! I feel as though I get a different aspect of the scent shining through every time. eta: Unfortunately, my skin ate this up after a couple hours... such as I would have liked to have done.

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

I've tried Pain and Bluebeard, both of which have been fascinating olfactory experiences. Pain is two notes (lavender and pennyroyal) that somehow combine into a minty scent, and Bluebeard is just... crazy. A peppery, violent roller coaster ride.. I think it's the vetiver and violet.

Recs for Role-Playing Games (RPG), LARP and Cosplay

I'm into anime, manga, and cosplay, and have been struggling with scent choices for those cosplays that I do have or have in the works... I currently own Wanda, Les Bijoux, Peach Moon 2009, Black Dahlia, Akuma, Marquis de Merteuil, Blackbeard, and Pain. My cosplays (and the mood I try to convey) are as follows... Made: Ryuichi Sakuma (Gravitation, Kumagoro costume ver.)-a bubbly, fun-loving guy who has a more sexy, serious side, especially on the stage Lulu (Final Fantasy X)-strong and silent type, quietly seductive Major (Hellsing Ultimate)-generally batshit crazy, loves war, proud man, dresses sharply In progress: Miss Mio (Ral Grad)-somewhat motherly, protective, refined Orihime (Bleach, Full School Uniform Ver.)-kind of boy crazy, cute, typical teenage girl type scent? Fortune (Metal Gear Solid 2)-sadness transferred into hate and anger, wishes for death, military dress Marie Mjolnir (Soul Eater)-more or less the embodiment of Thor's hammer, lightning motif (looking for a feminine ozone scent) Wufei (Gundam Wing)-pride, strength, possibly a masculine asian scent Rao (Okami)-something sinister lying underneath sweet, preferably something kitsune-evoking Future (Maybe?): Shinigami-Sama (Soul Eater, non-scaring-kids version)-cheerful and silly, yet wise, powerful, can really get down to business when need be! Yoshi (Mario)-aww it's Yoshi, you guys! I can't imagine what I'd want an egg-laying reptile to smell like. O.o If you have the time, any input would be greatly appreciated! That actually sounds quite divine! Just reading the description for the scent- A sparkly, batty little scent: green tea, melon, mint, lime rind, and champagne grape with lemon balm, mullein, and toadflax- it really kind of evokes Yoshi to me too! I'll have to try it out.

    Bluebeard

In the bottle: Yikes! I'm afraid to try this one! Something comes on STRONG, stabbing me in the noise rather viciously! Smells like salty dirt and kerosene... Definitely smell the rage here. On my skin (wet) New plastic tupperware or bags, faint floral... sharp and bitter. Drydown: A little lingering sharpness... one wrist softened before the other into this musky floral with a peppery accent. After a bit of physical activity though, this becomes powdery-peppery, and lavender peeks out a little more. Rather masculine though! Verdict: I couldn't see myself getting past the initial smell, but once I did it became this peppery rich delight of a scent. I'd spilled some on my fingers, and when I washed it off the sharp scent was gone to leave me with the nice smell, so maybe I'll apply this one before a shower and see how it treats me then! Also need to try it on my bosom, where it'll warm up faster. It'd also probably make a lovely room scent.
