  1. I tend to wear whatever I like to school actually. I don't slather, but sometimes I do. No one seems to have a problem either; most people actually love the perfume I wear and I have gotten quite a few of my friends into BPAL because of the perfume I wear every day. For times when I know I will be presenting something or in close quarters with people all day I try to be more considerate of what I wear, but in general I wear what I want! My tastes have a large range but needless to say most of my BPAl perfume is a touch heavier than store bought aerosol perfume that I have smelled on a lot of girls, but I tend to find their perfume more nauseating than I could ever find BPAL! Then again... may be that is because I love my BPAL ;)

  2. In decant: YUM. Smells like Old Moon 2008 but without the berries and with added vanilla. It isn't quite as green as I expected (or as green as Old Moon 2008) and I get more ozone than fir or pine or forest. It is almost a touch cologne-esque with all that ozone/wind/snow/ice thing going on.

Wet: The ozone intensifies and I get a lot of cold air in this blend without as much foresty notes. I feel like I am definitely wind blowing over mountains as opposed to through a winter forest. A slight berry note comes out at this point and I'm getting something lightly woody.

Dry on skin: Ozone takes over. It is very sharp at this point and I don't think I can handle it really. There is no sweetness and I get no snow, just some sharp pine and eucalyptus being drowned by harsh ozone.

Overall: I prefer other pine and forest blends like Old Moon 2008 (which is my PERFECT winter blend), Dublin (which I want more of so badly), and The Jersey Devil. This was kind of a bummer, I expected more. Stupid skin chemistry.

  3. In decant/wet on skin: Zing! That is honey alright! But the honey I can wear! It is thick, creamy, sweet, and just wonderful. The kind of honey in Womb Furie and just wow. Pretty. I get a hint of orange at the back without any evidence of anything else.

Dry on skin: This retains a lot of honey while adding a touch of powdery amber to the mix. The orange gets stronger but it is really more of a citrus than straight up orange and isn't quite as sweet as I'd like. The overall combination is actually quite stunning, and on the dry down the honey isn't quite as sweet as it was wet. The more I wear this the more amber I get, and the honey also gets a touch sharp and powdery.

Overall: This is really pretty, even despite all the powderiness I am getting the more I wear this. Honey has never been a favorite note (I much prefer the sweet creamy-ness of beeswax) but in this blend it works well with the fresh citrus and amber. I'll keep the decant but for personal preferences and skin chemistry I won't be getting a bottle!

  4. In decant/Wet: Stays the same for a good while which is why I grouped them together. When I first smelled this I thought WOAH spicy. It reminded me a lot of La Catrina Calavera like TheIceMaiden said earlier. It overall smells like spicy leaves, foliage, some carnation and mums at this point.

Dry: Now that is more like it! Dry the spicy-ness fades quite a bit and I am starting to get the rose which is a very light creamy sweet note, beautiful really. Amber is adding a bit of powder to the mix while skin musk gives the entire blend a lightly musky sweet feel to it. This smells like a bed of dry leaves, sweet skin musk, mums, and a bit of the most beautiful creamy rose. OH, I totally forgot! The linen is a major player, it is nice airy and creamy which just makes the scent that much better.

Overall: WOW. The more I smell this blend the more I like/love it. The dry down is so vastly different from the wet scent and I am in love. It turned out quite a bit more sweet than I expected initially and the rose and leaves note is beautiful. I may want to grab a bottle of this actually...

  5. In Decant/Wet on skin: This stays about the same on me so I grouped them together. WOW. This has some really really pretty creamy sweet beeswax along with something a touch woodsy, and some frankincense underneath everything. I feel like I am getting a touch of citrus or sweet orange.

Dry on skin: On skin the beeswax backed up a bit and I am getting a bit more of a powdery feel while the saffron, champaca flower, and bergamot come out simultaneously making the blend sweeter, drier, and a touch more incense-like. The overall effect is like sweet beeswax with sweet orange nestled into a base of beautiful incense that isn't too heavy with a bit of saffron.

Overall: WOW. I thought this was going to be my favorite of the Yules and I was right! Downright beautiful. The entire scent just smolders and glitters and is so evocative of what is named after. Beautiful. I think I need a bottle!

  6. In the decant: This smells very sweet like a combination of the beeswax and lotus. Behind the honey beeswax type sweetness is something deeper and almost nutty, vetiver but not the really harsh kind. This one is softened a bit and is more like the vetiver in Wulric, the Wolfman which I find to be much softer and very wearable.

Wet on skin: This morphs instantly and becomes less sweet; the beeswax really takes over and the vetiver comes out more on my skin. I'm also getting some round warm mosses contributing to this scent, giving it depth. I am getting no sign of clove or lotus at all.

Dry on skin: This rounds out beautifully! The beeswax and vetiver begin to melt into each other and the sandalwood peaks its head out at this point. The scent also becomes just a tad powdery. Overall it smells like a gorgeous slightly nutty, woodsy, deep scent just drenched with the perfect sweet creamy beeswax! This really reminds me of the way beeswax works in Hand of Glory while being an overall smoother scent. It is very comforting and I can't help smelling it! The vetiver in this is absolutely beautiful, and I normally don't like vetiver!

Overall: I love this! I don't think I need a full bottle because I have beeswax scents like Hand of Glory I enjoy more so this wouldn't get enough use to warrant a bottle purchase, but I will definitely hold on to my decant and perhaps try to swap for another! Winner!

  7. In imp: Fresh sweet grasses with a hint of some kind of gorgeous floral with something almost tart in the background that reminds me a bit of grapefruit? This is delicious, I mean I cannot wait to try this! I just hope it doesn't fade fast…

Wet on Skin: The tart fruity note seems to disappear and in this stage the grasses and sweet wildflowers tend to take over. But this is still quite fresh, zingy, and I can definitely detect some warmth from the sun and cool dew over the entire thing.

Dry: The grasses tend to fade a bit and the zingy grapefruit like note comes back but with more sweetness and warmth, less tartness. Not it has truly become a gorgeous zingy sweet wildflowers and citrus type scent covered with dew and sunlight. The feel is almost similar to Mag Mell without smelling like Mag Mell. Also after a while the blend tends to get a hint of muskiness, kind of like white musk which adds to the zingy effect I think.

Overall: I love this! I may be needing a bottle actually because this is a beautiful sunlight meadow type of scent with a zing… I may go as far as saying I like this better than the Passionate Shepherd to his Love which is probably my favorite meadow blend. So beautiful! Average throw but it doesn't last particularly long unfortunately. ALSO this layers beautifully with Tombstone!

EDIT: I just realized this was discontinued... my heart just broke...

  8. I walked outside today and the sky was so beautiful! The air was perfect and crisp and windy and the stars were sparkling. I was wondering if you guys know of a blend with a similar feel? That is evocative of a night sky? I'm looking for either GC (impable or unimpable) or current Yule blends for recommendations. I looked through this thread but since some of the blends are discontinued I thought I would resurrect it and see what you guys come up with! Also I'm looking for something definitely on the cool side as opposed to a muggy humid night! Thanks guys! :D

  9. In Imp: Wow! Very minty with a very sweet undertone that smells like overripe juniper berries that have been almost candied, it is probably the lotus that is adding so much sweetness.

Wet on Skin: The sweetness stays true to form, but the mint becomes much colder and less minty. The mint note is reminding me more and more of icy slush which is pleasing. The berries take on an almost medicinal air while the lotus gets pushed forward. These changes are slight but they make the scent overall more airy and less like toothpaste.

Dry on Skin: Everything evens out and the mint has been reduced to slush rather than mint. The berries and lotus combine to be way less medicinal but the scent is overall still too sweet. It is like cold ice that is covering syrupy berries and candied lotus. Not particularly appetizing because of the almost medicinal tone given to the scent.

Verdict: Definitely not a keeper, but I appreciate the icy slushy coldness given to the entire scent!

  10. I'm surprised no one has mentioned TRISTRAN yet! It is by far one of my favorite rosewood blends (Dust on your trousers, mud on your boots, and stars in your eyes: redwood, tonka bean, white sandalwood, lemon peel, patchouli, rosewood, coriander, and crushed mint.) Give it a go! The combination of herbs, woods, mint, and rosewood is truly unique and AMAZING.

  11. This is soft and pretty. I get lovely soft apple with a myriad of golden notes like carnation, amber, lightly spiced tea, and a touch of hibiscus. Very pretty and comforting overall and I love how much this smells like a lightly spiced apple tea with hibiscus. After a while this goes a touch powdery but not by much and it softens up considerably. It is a cozy scent and something lighter that people in general will love very much. I was hoping for this scent to be a little more full bodied and not quite so soft, but it is still beautiful, just not bottle worthy for me.

  12. Wow. THIS IS AMAZING. Starts off a bit soapy and kind of indistinguishably fruity and floral, not getting any amber or tobacco yet. On the dry down this just gets absolutely amazing… Golden amber with a touch of tobacco giving it an almost smoky edge without really making it smoky at all. The fruits are peachy golden and are adding a wonderful sweetness without being distinct while the flowers are most definitely late summer sun baked blooms that just add the most amazing bit of floral golden-ness, I want to say this has some kind of sunflower note. This reminds me of a more whimsical version of Et Lux Fuit going along with that whole golden vibe and is really just wonderful. I'll probably be needing a bottle of this. Complex and gorgeous for sure.

  13. Oh my goodness! I recently received a decant of this in a swap and can I just say I am so so so happy I have a 1/2 bottle of it coming to me at the moment. Sugary pink and foody are definitely words that should be used to describe this, but it also has a lovely lightness to it and none of the heavy almost nauseatingly foody pastry notes that I have smelled in other blends. It reminds me a lot of the smell of strawberry oatmeal but a little more sugary and a little fluffy kind of like airy angel food cake and spun pink sugar with a lovely dose of sweet strawberry cake. Sigh. A foody I can say I absolutely adore and will wear very happily. Yes, this scent is VERY happy! Great throw and it doesn't do much morphing on dry down, if any.

  14. Ok so I did some work on the spreadsheet, finished up the Yules and Halloweenies tabs! Let me know if you guys see any mistakes or if I am missing something!

    Spreadsheet on GoogleDocs

ETA.1: Edited link with newly complete Lupercalia tab! PM me with your email if you would like the document sent to you.

ETA.2: Edited link with finished unimpable GC scents, merged the Neil Gaiman tab into unimable GC. The Salon is separate.

Also quick question when it comes to cataloguing and organizing! Are the Irredeemable, Heroine, Sachs & Violens, Dawn, Witchblade, Gris Grimly, and Hellboy scents GC? I know on Hackess's spreadsheet some are listed as LE.

    I think I'm in love.

They are basically GC. I mean, in theory they could come down at any point, but given how long the NG ones have been up, it seems unlikely. I'm sure they would announce them going dark. If they had been intended to be LE they probably would have been sold on someone else's site (ie: Amanda Palmer) or been posted like the comic wrestler ones with an end date.

Alright thanks so much! Also if you mean you're in love because of the spreadsheet thanks so much! I'm currently working on the "Other LE" tab along with the "Discontinued Series" tab and those seem to be taking longer than the others, especially putting everything in order by release date!

  15. How lovely! On me this is pretty much exactly like the description. Juicy purpleish red dates with deep smoky tobacco and very smooth and almost unrecognizable leather in the background. I'm a really big fan of dates so I had to try this perfume and it really doesn't disappoint. Super sexy smoky almost peppery date palms with a little bit of warm deep leather grounding everything out. Seeing that it is Ramadan right now and I've been eating dates almost every day, this scent is just really beautiful to me. I may get a bottle eventually!

  16. In the imp this is fruity and a touch floral with a hint of soft muskiness. On my skin it stays kind of juicy and fruity for a little bit and then this goes surprisingly floral on me, but not in the nauseating way! It almost smells like really light non-heady pretty jasmine musk? After this has fried down it is mainly really light floral that vanishes in an hour pretty much. Really nice when I can smell it but rather disappointing that it fades so fast. I'll have to try this layered and see what happens!

  18. So I started on this crazy spreadsheet project where I'm using Hackess's spreadsheet and putting everything in order: Excel spreadsheet with different tabs for organized Lupercalia, Yule, Halloweenie, Lunacy, GC, Gaiman, Salon etc. They will generally be organized by year and category etc. For me it is easier to see ALL GC in one place and all LE Yule or LE Lunacy in one place. Just helps keeping me organized. I really only have the GC and CD stuff finished and just started lunacy today, but here is the link! If you guys think you might want a copy let me know and once I am further along with it I'll see about making it so that you guys can all download it! So without further ado here it is...

(Has been edited, check later post)

ETA: Also I may need help with it and what not for putting things in order! So I'll be posting here every now and then with my progress!

  19. This starts off very very soft, and then as it dries becomes stronger and deeper. Overall I get lots of champaca, a touch of frankincense, and a really nice resinous background over a very very subtle base of Snake Oil. The sugar cane really shines in this too adding a sweetness that is just beautiful without being achingly sweet, and the resins add an almost (not spicy but almost spicy) touch to the mix. The blend almost sparkles, like stars in the darkness. The sugar+incense combination is very similar to that of Midnight on the Midway, but without the florals and instead with resins and Snake Oil. The entire combination is almost heavy in a way which is probably because this blend is heavy on the incense, but the sugar cane adds this sparkly lightness that brings the entire blend to completely different level while the resins add a really nice dry warmth. Yum. I LOVE THIS. So glad I sprung for a bottle unsniffed, this should only get better with age! :wub2:

  20. 2010 Version:

Lots of damp woods and patchouli at the start, and when I say A LOT of patchouli, I mean woah a LOT LOT of patchouli! I also get a touch of fir, a bit of crispness, a hint of spices and apple. How pretty! This has aged really amazingly and I am now kicking myself for swapping off my bottle of it. Sigh. A really really lovely autumn scent. I have two favorite evocative autumn blends now: Samhain and Lambs-Wool. Lambs-Wool is more of a cheery happy autumn scent while Samhain is the dark, a little sinister, out in the windy night but can still feel the warmth of happy autumn on a cool night. You know what I mean. I need to grab more of this scent if/when it comes out this year!

  21. 2010 Version:

Resinous and gorgeous, almost foody in a way. Lots of amber and tonka with a touch of rockrose. The blend is almost spicy with with a touch of sweetness and really really golden. Not powdery at all and almost syrupy if I think about it. Sigh. I hope this is released again in 2011 because my partial decant just won't do..

ETA: ok so I decided this is a bit too sweet/sour on me. I think it's the rockrose and it is making the blend a bit too syrupy and sweet/sour. If this is ever released again I'll be interested in trying it, but I can't foresee a bottle in my future.

  22. I can't believe I never reviewed this! It is probably my favorite autumn blend ever!

    2010 Version:

In the bottle and on my skin this is pretty much the same (YAY). It starts off lovely tart apples with a dash of milk making it a touch creamy and lovely spices that all meld together without anything being particularly distinct. It smells like cider, a lovely cup of warm cider, but with an added tart and freshness from the apple with I love. This isn't candle smelling at all because it just smells so fresh and comforting and alive and yummy. Also it is definitely on the sweeter side of spicy so don't let the spices scare you off. YUM. I love apples. I think this should only get better with age. As the day goes by the scent becomes warmer and even more comforting and the initial tartness of the apple fades while still being absolutely delicious. Swoon. Love. Love. Love.

  23. Some of my favorite new releases (I went about 18 months back) were...

    - Half-Elf, Ranger, and Paladin from the RPG line. I really love some of the others as well, but these are my favorites!

    - Celeste was a BPTP release, but I still think it counts! AMAZING stuff.

    - Metal Rabbit is thought to be similar to the other new year releases, but I haven't tried the others and this is probably one of my favorite fruity fragrances.

    - The Soldier came out with the Yules and my oh my it is really nice! It is borderline foody and strangely reminds me of Crowley. YUM.

    - Old Demons of the First Class is a GC that came out with some other Marchen scents in July 2010. I really like it, kind of dry and musky with a bit of a neroli bite.

    - Since you said 2010, I'll also mention that the Neverwhere line came out and Door and Hunter and two of my favorite blends from it. Door is yummy sticky honey with chamomile and Hunter is the perfect leather and sage combination.

    - Then of course Paduan Killer Swarm and Panther Moon. Both so so so good. PKS is a coconut esque blend that actually works on me!

    - Ehecatl is GC and is mainly lime and hibiscus, came out in April of 2010 along with Pyramus which is part of the BPTP Lovers and is a wonderful sandalwood, lavender, dragons blood type scent.

BUT if you do count the rereleases I will also include Lambs-Wool 2010, Lotus Moon 2010, Worm Moon 2011, Womb Furie 2011, and Smut 2011.

  24. Lovely! The milk note in alice combined with the ginger note in Mag Mell (a bit softer version though). The honey is faint and creamy. This is rather pretty, light, and fresh. Like a combination of Mag Mell and Alice but without the florals and the super brightness. I must say I rather enjoy this one, ginger can be iffy but when it is done right IT IS DONE RIGHT. I don't know if I'll need a bottle, but this is one to watch!
