Wet: The most understated, muted flowers ever. It's beautiful. Dry-down: Turns into pee on my wrist, but there's a cloud of amazing around me. It's the same with Reaper and the Flowers, except this one is more "now you smell it, now you don't". Mysterious and very night-like. I just wish it wasn't pee on my wrist, darn it. I think this happens with everything that has calla lily in it. Hm... Dry: Yay! The pee is gone! The cloud around me smells like the night and sophisticated lady. It's beautiful.

This scent is a dead ringer for chocolate covered cranberry granola bars. I LOVE IT!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

It's not a true rose smell or whatever, but I love Rose Cross!

    The Queen of Hearts

Wet: Nail polish remover. Dry-down: Nail polish remover with a bit of cherry. Dry: Pretty white flowers with a hint of cherry. The wet and dry-down stages were not pleasant, and I'm not too fond of cherry, so I think I'll swap this off.

    Horreur Sympathique

Wet: At first it smelled a little like BO from the musk and honey mixing together, and I was about to give up right away, but then all of a sudden it mellowed out. Dry-down: Now it's all wine and grapes and honey and awesome. Wow. This smells damn good. Dry: Wine, honey, and then everything blended into the background. Wearing this and listening to Benny Goodman is throwing me into a dancing frenzy, haha.

Wet: Gosh, I'm so glad all the manly scents work on me so far. This one is no exception. Dry-down: I can't smell anything distinct, except perhaps the frankincense and a little bit of tonka. But everything else meshes into a cloud of sexy man smell and it's just so heavenly. Dry: After a while it becomes a very CLEAN sexy man. I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT My brother's opinion: Overwhelming approval.

    Frau Holle

Wet: I get everything except for the snow and pine, unfortunately. It's a slight bit sour too. Dry-down: My wrists feel cold, but still it smells kind of strange. I think the witch's herbs and musk is kind of overwhelming the scent. After a while, it smells a lot less overwhelming and it's actually quite nice. The pine and snow is still floating in the background. Dry: Actually makes for a pretty nice cologne. I just wish there was more snow and pine. My brother's opinion: Smells like Blue Water cologne.

    Belle Vinu

Wet: Right away I get red sandalwood, rose wood, and a little bit of peach. Dry-down: It sweetens up a lot more (probably because of the osmanthus and peach), but the scent is still mostly the woods. Very nice! It reminds me of peach orchards in the fall. Dry: Soft, flowery peachy goodness. So, so nice.

    Perversion

Wet: Coconut and tobacco. Dry-down: The alcohol and vanilla appears. Well, vanilla and tobacco stay really close to the skin, and the coconut and alcohol are just... floating around me in a cloud of scent. It's wonderful and kind of naughty. Dry: Tobacco, and a wee bit of vanilla and coconut. It's mostly tobacco at this point, but rounded out by a nice amount of sweetness which I personally find to be quite awesome. My brother's opinion: *thumbs up*

    Serpent's Kiss

Seething with passion, yet utterly cold-blooded. Dragon’s blood, vetivert and spice. This scent was a nightmarish overkill of cinnamon and something really stinky.

    For the boys...

I think lighter colognes would be the best, say the Apothecary or Villain. In terms of the Mad Tea Party, have you considered White Rabbit? I think that might be good (though I've never tried it).

Wet: Whoa Irish coffee... and wafers? Well, whatever it is, it smells good. Dry-down: Huh? There's something that smells like... celery, of all things. Disappointment. After a while, I realize it's just the whiskey and the oak/tomes mixing together that made my nose go wonky. As the oak comes out more, the celery disappears and then it's just awesome. Dry: The throw is huuuuge. I have a ginormous cloud of Irish coffee following me. The oak and book notes are close to my skin. I really like this! My brother's opinion: He was surprised at the throw, liked the smell of the coffee, but he thought it smelled like chocolate on my wrist. Thumbs up from him.

    Athens

Wet: At first it smelled medicinal. The honey, myrrh, and red wine all came out, but to my nose, the combination of all three smells a little strange... Dry-down: Weird. Something smells mildly chocolatey. I think it's the combination of the honey and red wine, and maybe the myrrh. I actually like it quite a bit. Oh wait, I think it's the myrrh, because it's a bit medicine-like. Hm. This definitely smells ancient. It makes me think of a robust Greek woman carrying a water jug to the marketplace or something. As this dries, the honey comes to the forefront, with myrrh and red wine in supporting roles. The wine gives it an edge, and the myrrh spices the blend up. This is wonderful! Dry: There's a cloud of honey floating around me, and it's absolutely amazing. Closer to my wrist, the myrrh is still evident, though the red wine has pretty much blended into the background. It leaves something vaguely fruity and fresh though, which is nice. I smell like I just bathed in honeyed water in Ancient Greece or something. I love this blend.

    The Reaper and the Flowers

Wet: Rose, which quickly disappears. Then it's all lilies and carnations. Dry-down: Something's going wrong. It's sour. Dry: Cat pee. Strange, because I get nice pretty whiffs of flowers, but when I sniff my wrist I gag. ETA: After a while, the cat pee disappears and it's just lovely. What the heck.

    Wanda

Wet: Started off as cherry cough syrup (ick), but quickly turned alcoholic. Leather comes out right off the bat, and gives it an edge. Dry-down: On me, this doesn't smell like red wine. It does smell like booze though, but more like a dry wine wine and other assortments of alcoholic beverages. This smells like black leather, but not the shiny kind... this leather has seen a lot of use. The grape emerges after a bit. I like it! There's not much sweetness to it, just boozy leather. When I walk around, I can smell something faintly alcoholic around me, which is kind of awesome. Dry: It's red wine now! And leather! Ooooh this is good. It smells like I had a great time last night... in the dungeon. LOL. My brother's opinion: Not bad. ETA: After several hours, it becomes a delicious red wine.

    Hellcat

Wet: Holy shit this is horrid. A strong alcoholy perfume with a bit of nutty (but not hazelnut) bitterness. Dry-down: I don't think foodie scents work on me. This stinks on me. Dry: Washing it off.

    The Lady of Shalott

Wet: Gardenia! There is a slight sharpness which is probably from the ginger. Dry-down: It becomes a bit salty and very watery, like crushed gardenias in water, or walking along a beach lined with gardenia on a sunny summer afternoon. The aquatic scent makes it smell a bit department store-ish, but it still reminds me of a very sophisticated Edwardian lady in a white visiting dress, strolling along the streets. (I just checked on Google and the painting is a bit different from what I imagined, but at least its still a sophisticated lady in a white dress!). Ginger lends it a bit of warmth. Dry: Very lady-like. The gardenia is apparent throughout the whole process, but it's tempered by the salty aquatic and the other notes. It doesn't have a "sad" feel to it, and it doesn't remind me of the Lady of Shalott painting, but it's a beautiful scent nonetheless. I love how it's flowery and slightly salty with the warmth and spice of the ginger in the background. When it's dry it loses the department store feel and just smells wonderful, like actually smelling the flowers itself. Absolutely beautiful.

    The Antikythera Mechanism

Wet: Wood and vanilla and tobacco. The vanilla softens the blend up, but I like how it's not too sweet here. Dry-down: Increasingly spicy from the tobacco. This is a very sophisticated blend, and I'd say this is how I think a Victorian gentleman would have smelled like. There's something here that's a little similar to Dee (probably the tonka/vanilla association), but while Dee is an intellectual, this man is smooth-talker and one who frequents high class social gatherings. Dry: Hm. The vanilla shoves it's way to the forefront again, but thank goodness it's not too sweet. It almost becomes potpurri but the wood and tobacco holds it back. After a while vanilla disappears to linger at the edges of the scent and I get a little bitterness from the tobacco (I believe). It's not an unwelcome bitterness though... it actually makes the blend smell even better. I love this! Very sophisticated. My brother's opinion: He approves.

    Dee

Wet: I can smell the incense and rosewood. It's tempered by the tonka, which makes it a little bit sweet and so lovely. Dry-down: Still the same as wet. I'm starting to get a bit of something that smells like dusty books. There's something smoky about it now. I think that may be the leather. Or is it the parchment? I DON'T KNOW IT'S JUST AMAZING. Dry: Dee smells like sexy, spectacled man leafing through ancient dusty tomes in the candlelight, with his hair pulled back into a low ponytail to keep it out of his face. The library is large and dark, but it's comforting instead of intimidating. Wow. I don't know how I got that, but wow. Also, it somehow manages to smell intellectual. My god I love this blend. My brother's opinion: At first it smells like potpurri, then it smells nice.

    Bordello

Wet: Berry gummy candy. Very juicy smelling. Dry-down: It's a little less girly now. More rounded and womanly, slightly heady. Still berry candy, but with a dash of amaretto. Also a bit grapey. Oh wait, I think it might be the wine! At some points it comes close to potpurri-land, but it's always held back because of the wine. Dry: Intoxicating, womanly berry.

    Utrennyaya

Wet: Herbal and slightly minty. Dry-down: Still a herbal, medicinal smell with an edge of mint, but there's something dirty smelling behind it. Its sort of musky and dust-like, and I don't know what to think of it. After a while it sweetens up and it smells a little like department store fragrance with an extra dose of mint, but I can't really get past the weird dust in the background. Dirty vegetables covered with flowers? Dry: Herbs and mint and a bit of flowers. I think I smell the violet. No hint of osmanthus, but I think it's helping sweeten up the scent. The dirty dusty smell in the background is mostly gone now, so I can finally appreciate the scent. It smells a bit too perfumy, but the light and airy mint helps a lot. It does have somewhat of a "morning" kind of feeling, like waking up too early and watching the sky become brighter... Oh wait. Darn it! This reverts back to department store perfume. Washed off because it gave me a bad headache.

    Anne Bonny

Wet: Sandalwood and wooden planks. Kind of salty. It smells like a furniture shop, or maybe a bustling dock on a warm day. Dry-down: Sun-baked wooden planks and sea salt. Smells like a wild pirate lady commanding a ship. Wow is this evocative or what? The salt is making me feel a little thirsty, even. Dry: I think it can get a little too salty at points, but the incense and wood makes it all worth it. I can smell a bit of spice in the background too, like some cargo hidden in crates or something. This is amazing and pretty strong and for some reason it actually makes me feel confident and energized. I am SO glad this works on me. My brother's opinion: This smells like pirate. *approves*

    Vice

Wet: Orange chocolate, but sort of fake smelling. Dry-down: It's more perfumy that I thought it would be, but I do smell the chocolate. A vaguely fresh and sweet fruity smell (I can't really identify orange or cherry) permeates throughout. Dry: Ends up an ambiguously warm and sweet scent. I can still sort of tell it's chocolate (but only because I know chocolate's in it), but all the fruit is gone. The throw is minimal. It's more like a skin scent. To be honest, I don't think I'll be reaching for this much. My brother's opinion: It doesn't smell like chocolate. Smells like potpurri.

    Snooty Rose

Wet: Candied plum. Not getting any rose at all. Dry-down: Strange. It's still candied plum, but there's something simultaneously creamy and sharp about it. Must be the combination of sandalwood and bergamot. I smell a bit of rose now. Dry: Potpourri. It smells like overly sweet, badly made Turkish Delight that you have to spit out after a second or two because it's too intense and too fake. I had to wash it off. My brother's opinion: Potpourri, from the first second I put it on. Gives him a headache.

    The Apothecary

Wet: Something sharp and citrusy. Smells like a cologne. Dry-down: Still sharp, but there's a bit of green tea. It's a very clean scent, like I just used some manly sports body wash and stepped out of the shower. Dry: Lemony. Smells somewhat like a washroom, but a very clean, hotel washroom. The herbs come out a bit more and then it's warm and spicy and fresh. My brother's opinion: Minty and lemony. He likes it but agrees with the washroom sentiment... not that that's a bad thing, haha. I'm glad I got to try this! I got this as a frimp from the lab, and it's a great unisex scent. Definitely keeping it.
