BPAL

  • Favorite Scents
BPALs that have worked: The Rose, Dorian, Shanghai, Pink Snowballs, Snow Maiden. Yes, that's all, I'm a newbie ;-) I generally love rose, honeysuckle, tea (green, black, early grey, etc, etc), and girly florals (violets, hyacynth, etc, etc). I love a berry smell, but BPAL berry hasn't worked on me yet... and any sort of incense or musk tend to smell too masculine. I think I'll play with plain ol' girly scents for a bit. Recommendations are most welcome!

  1. Hi, Forum :-) Hope I'm in the right place.... I’m looking for a light feminine floral. This has been covered before, but I hope I can have some help with my “floral, but not…” specifics. I’d like a floral WITHOUT any musk, vanilla, incense, or darkness. I amp musk and vanilla like crazy, and they always make things richer and more masculine on me, not what I’m looking for. Also, Alice was a disaster on me, so I think I should avoid carnation, which means some of the most popular florals, like Maiden, are out. Rose does work on me, and I love The Rose, but I’d like to branch out a bit. Any ideas??? (Thanks in advance!)

    Dorian

Just got a new order in yesterday, and I nearly killed my arm trying several scents at once. Then I came to my senses, washed them all off, and started over with Dorian. I see why this is so popular. It's delicious and sexy and cozy, a very nice scent that I was happy to wear to sleep yesterday and to work today. The funny thing is I don't get a strong tea smell, but I do get a strong scent memory from my favorite tea house in France. I smell vague tea smells and the aroma of gorgeous french pastries, the kind that are mostly butter-flaky crust, creamy white chocolate, and subtle sugar. Sometimes I'll daub and a sudden lemon jumps out, but the creamy sweetness and the musk remain when it dries. Overall, I like this a lot and I'm definitely keeping the imp. Buuuut, I think I just need to stop ordering BPAL's vanilla. The vanilla blends are yummy, but just not quite "me".

    The Snow Maiden

I received a decant of Snow Maiden from the sale forum just last week along with a couple other yules, my first LEs to play with :-) My first impression was pure pine candle, and I didn't like it at all...but then as I went about my Yuletide affairs, namely, singing concerts in churches decked in pine boughs, I started to smell something in natural pine I'd forgotten about. There is a sweetness to pine, not the harsh, sharp, woody, pseudo-minty scent I generally associate with pine, but a sweet sap scent that I started to crave. And so I gave Snow Maiden another try. And since then, I have worn it every day :-) I don't get the berries or flowers at all, I just get a sweet sugary pine and snow scent that keeps growing on me. This is how I'd imagine Charlie Brown's little tree would smell, all sweetness and snow and gentle pine. Very nice :-)
