Lilith has been involved with our humanitarian and philanthropic work for several years, helping with fundraising events like our food, toy, and feminine napkin drives; she has taken the initiative a few times now, setting up her own fundraisers for the UNHCR and Pasadena Humane Society. This year, we decided that shes old enough to do the footwork, and she volunteered with us twice in serving those currently experiencing homelessness. This photo is from Christmas Day 2017: Lilith spent several hours helping us distribute food, toiletries, and sleeping bags in Hollywood. Madagascar vanilla and sweet patchouli with Yule pine, white fig, and almond blossom. Initially, this is a blast of almond/cherry and patchouli. Almond never seems to last long, and this is no exception: within an hour, this is a truly lovely, soft scent. It's a warm, slightly powdery, slightly sweet vanilla and patchouli, with only the faintest whiff of pine or fig or almond. Don't confuse this with Banshee Beat: this is clean, gentle patchouli and a very mild, non-foody vanilla. This is a gorgeous, quiet scent that fits its name quite well.

This is an interesting scent. It's brighter than I expected, with the tobacco not making its presence obvious. "Sugar blossom": I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's clean, sweet, with a touch of dry cinnamon. It's not overtly floral or spicy. I think this would make a good daytime scent; it's not overwhelming or in your face. I am not reacting to the cinnamon in this oil (I do sometimes). I like it quite a bit, and am hoping it ages to something even better.

This was a surprise hit for me! The tea rose is there, and it is lovely and soft and nicely grounded with the lace background. But it's not an "in your face" kind of rose at all, and there is no trace of sourness that rose sometimes has on my skin. Sadly, it doesn't last long (only a tiny hint of lacy rose 5 hours later. But it's a definite keeper!

Black amber, 7-year aged patchouli, cashmeran, and tobacco leaf. Dark, chewy, sexy, woodsy. The cashmeran keeps it from being "dirty", I think, and gives it bit of an elegant "clean" vibe. Good, strong, throw initially, and that peanut butter thing that patchouli sometimes does is only there for a brief moment. Not sweet. I think I love this. I think you will too. Edit: I'm wearing this again today, and after 5 hours, the patchouli is nearly gone; I mostly smell the cashmeran at this point, and it's a nice, classy, woody scent. The initial throw has disappeared, and this seems like more of a skin scent. Very unisex. I now know I love this.

This smells like an old BPAL forum exclusive, I think? Werepuppy? but with a dusting of cinnamon.

After looking through my list of favorites, I realize that two of the very top scents for me are Hod (Resurrected) and Flowering Chrysanthemums. I just love these scents, and would love to find others that are similar. Any suggestions? I think that Tissue is almost in the same category as well. The Harp of The Unpronounceable Irish Name is close, but doesn't quite cut it for me. Similarly, Katrina Van Tassel and Schlafende Baigneuse are in the same general vein. Thanks for any ideas!

I'm so pleased I managed to snag a bottle of this lovely "mistake"! As Deceitfuldescender notes, it starts out with a sweet cola-like note. It's sugary, smooth, and delicious although not in a foody way. Snake Oil is in there, but this blend reminds me more of some other of my favorites including Luna Negra and Panther Moon. It's got decent throw initially and is still going strong and is fairly linear at 3 hours. I honestly don't get that much patchouli, and the honey is the pretty, non-cat pee version. I do detect the dragon's blood, and it is indeed similar to that of Dragon's Milk. This is possibly my favorite SO blends ever, I think.

This was the Luper I was most excited about! I thought, naively, that I knew what this was going to smell like. I slathered myself last week with 8-year-aged Snake Oil and O, and thought that Snake's Kiss would smell as magnificent as that combo did. I was even more excited when I read Violet Chaos's review and saw that the honey was not the heavy "O" honey, which can go a bit cat-pee on me. Caveat: I did just get this bottle last night, so it needs to age. But Snake's Kiss smells nothing like my expectations. Oddly, I get something that smells like lavender, the lemon that VC noted, and almost a tea note... (you see where I'm going here, don't you?) It smells to me like Dorian with a drop of Snake Oil added to it. It's really quite nice, but I need to re-evaluate again because my expectations were so solid but soooo far off on this one.

THE RUSSIAN DANCE Florentine iris, black tea, labdanum, patchouli, champaca flower, benzoin, and ambergris. The Russian Dance is one of my favorite parts of the Nutcracker, and the combination of notes intrigued me. Wet: Sharply floral, with black tea astringency. A few minutes later: a little bit of the champaca flower is showing through now. It's still rather sharp, but is starting to mellow a bit. It is a fairly bold scent, if that makes any sense. I smell the patchouli now a bit; a little bit of an earthy undertone. I like it, but I'm not sure how often I will wear it.

I'm trying this scent for the first time, and I've fallen under its spell. It does start with a blast of lavender. I get hints of most of the other unlisted notes that others above have commented on. There is a definite leather feeling, a metallic vibe, and a hint of band-aid, all notes I'm not a huge fan of. Yet I still find myself unable to stop nomming my arm. It's a clean, elegant, and fascinating. Will have to try again, but this might be a full bottle.

The Serpentine is one of my all-time favorite BPALs, I think. It's Dorian, amped up on the lavender and vanilla. I find it so comforting and beautiful. It's a soft, lovely lavender that is never harsh or weedy. The vanilla is marshmallow-ey, giving the entire scent the vibe of TKO mixed with Dorian. I do love this and am so glad to have a bottle.

I agree. Tissue is a gardenia scent that I think has a creamy vibe to it. Also, Katrina van Tassel definitely seems creamy to me too! I am also someone who did not find Zorya P. to be particularly creamy. It is gorgeous, however.

This is a category I really like! How about these? Hod The Oval Portrait Flowering Chrysanthemums Signoir Dildo Alice Chimera Zarita Three Brides

On me, this is a slightly floral, slightly apple-ey, slightly incense-ey blend grounded by the lace base. The apple is not that strong, but blends in nicely with the other notes. I get no bonfire smoke at all, but maybe that will change after it rests a bit. I do get a warm, summery, pastoral vibe though. It's fairly potent in terms of throw; the longevity seems pretty good too (I could still smell traces of it on my wrist when I woke up after putting it on at bedtime). I really, really like this. If you like most of the other Laces, you will likely like this.

This is a lovely scent indeed, and could easily become my favorite hair gloss. I'm surprised that no one yet has compared it to Antique Lace... I'm wearing both today, and I'm in a lovely almost-powdery vanilla cloud.

Have you tried My Baby and a Baby Goat? There are many scents with goat milk notes, including Adrastea, Depart Pour Le Sabbat, Sweet Lavinia's Risalamande, Nonae Caprotina, Candles Moon, etc.

I like this. It's not exactly what I expected; on me, it's more dead leaves with even a bit of vaguely fruity "herbage". The sugared cardamom is very subtle. But perhaps that's because (in my excited anticipation after ordering this) I was layering last year's Dead Leaves and Tobacco with Posset's Pavane (a sugared cardamom scent), and expecting something more like that. That was a very sweet and lovely combo, btw. But I do like this quite a bit, even if has a hint of the dreaded aquatic/men's cologne vibe that many of the dead leaf scents have.

DANCE OF THE MIRLITONS Marzipan, Burmese rosewood, white sandalwood, Somalian rose, tonka bean, rum accord, and white musk. I am excited to be the first to review this one! It's got a lot of notes that I like, although I'm not sure how the actual combination will play out. Initially: spicy almond extract, a little bit like Eclipse, and quite sweet. The rum is coming through now. Pretty strong throw. A few minutes later: I'm getting some rose now. It really seems like there is some cinnamon in there too; I accidentally touched my wrist to my nose and it stings a little like Saw-Scaled Viper does for me. This is really interesting! After about 10 minutes: lots of rose, maybe a hint of the sandalwood. I'm not getting much white musk or tonka bean. The sweetness has largely disappeared. Overall, I like this quite a bit. I am wondering how it is going to smell in a few hours... Edit later: It is reminding now a bit of Black Phoenix, in a good way, since that is one of my favorites.

I tested this a few times after I first got it, and I don't think I was the impressed. Following his death this weekend, I pulled it out again. It has aged fabulously!!!! It's a lovely, smooth incense blend. I don't get a lot of leather or vanilla, but it is smooth and just sweet enough. It's on the mascule side, but I generally like scents in that category. Bottom line: I love it!!! So glad I let it age for a while.

Happy Happy Joy Joy smells just like Lushes Orange Blossom perfume (which is my favourite) but I haven't found any BPAL like it. Even the BPAL Orange Blossom SN isn't as sweet... Though if you want something in the same area I can suggest Vixen "Lascivious, flirtatious, and vampy as hell. A true heartbreaker’s perfume. The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli." It's spicy but has that creamy orange blossom scent. Oddly, the lush orange blossom doesn't work on me. I think there's a rose note in the happy happy joy joy that is missing from the OB. I do like vixen but it is as you say, not as sweet. I am looking to try tweedledee, does anyone know if that's similar? The closest BPAL I've found to Happy Happy Joy Joy is BPAL's Changing the Shadows, which was a Yule LE from 2010, I think.

On me, this is a mix of sweet coconut curry, buttered popcorn, cardamom rice pudding, and Boo. I love it!!! It's not beachy, and somehow not really foody, despite the foods that it brings to my mind.

This blend just makes me happy!!! I have worn it a few times now, and it seems to have reasonable throw and longevity on my skin. The leather is definitely there, but it mellows a lot after about an hour. The gingerbread and fruitcake notes make it Christmas-ey without being "holiday candle" or too overtly foody. It's a fun, warm, festive blend that I will be wearing often this holiday season.
