    Dirty

I bought this scent from the sales thread after recommendations, in hopes that I could wear it in this humid weather. In the imp, I get a whiff of fresh laundry (slightly floral). But on my skin, all I get is the stench of withered flowers from start to finish. I didn't expect to be blown away since I don't like clean-smelling scents. I only got it to try something new. I just don't understand how washed linen can end up smelling like withered flowers. It's beyond me. Well, from now on I'll know not to venture into this category of oils. EDIT: Alright, that must've been a bad day. I decided to give it another chance today and it still started off as laundry soap and morphed into Clairol Herbal Essences from the 90s, heh. Very fresh and quite nice because I used to love the Herbal Essences range. But really, I wish this blend were a shampoo rather than a perfume oil.

    Thanatos

It's funny how I list this oil as one of my favourites, even though rose turns to baby powder on me. But I adore benzoin, myrrh and incense of any kind. If benzoin was ever released as a single note, I'd be the first person to buy it. I still remember a couple of months ago when I tried this and it actually turned me on. *lol* Wet, Thanatos is gorgeous - woody and smokey like a cathedral of some sort. It's even slightly gothic. I get most of the sandalwood, benzoin and myrrh. However, as it dries, the rose amps on my skin and morphs into talcum powder. Just as I'm beginning to lose hope, the incense changes my mind and I'm in love all over again. Not sure what tomb moss is but the drydown is definitely worth the wait. If only the rose didn't exsist. I'm still contemplating on the 5ml, but since the scent smells gender-neutral I'm giving this imp to my bf. If he doesn't like it, I'll get myself a bottle.

    Frau Holle

I had this in March and loved it so much that I wore it 3 days in a row - once for a St.Patrick's Day gathering, next day, for a concert and again to go shopping. It was also the first time a complete stranger complimented me on how good I smelled. *lol* I'm not good with identifying specific notes yet, but it was an awesome representation of pine (not at all reminiscent of Dettol!). Like a damp and dark, yet sweet forest. A little goes a long way, though.

    Danube

Got this as a free imp from the lab. Okay, so I love florals. But this starts off by smelling of luxury soap and morphs into an aquatic floral. Reminds me of those fresh and light commercial fragrances in the market like Calvin Klein Be, Clinique Happy and such in the late 90s, but stronger. Don't like it, makes me feel a bit queasy. I like the drydown of this (slightly earthy, smells of the forest) but on the whole this just doesn't possess enough character for me to warrant keeping the imp. I prefer darker scents with more depth. EDIT: Alright, as far as aquatic/ozone scents go, Sarah is still my first and only love. But I decided to try this again and was quite surprised to find myself liking it. I could also appreciate it more since it was raining today. It does start off smelling very bright and fresh. However, about 2 or 3 hours later, there's this nostalgic quality about. I'm thinking it's from the flowers. They just smell very familiar, althought the names don't seem to ring a bell. I think this blend would work pretty well in my climate. Especially during the humid monsoon season. Since I'm so moody, I'll have to decide if I really need a bottle.

    Inez

I love amber and vanilla so I was hoping to try the carnation (not sure what that's supposed to smell like), but unfortunately all I got from this on my skin was sandalwood soap which lasted for about a minute followed by talcum powder.

    Delight

I've been terribly nostalgic lately so I got this hoping it would emulate at least some of my memories of travelling to primary school (I was there last year for a carnival - it's 167 years old, rumoured to be haunted and built on a strange narrow road smelling of frangipani blossoms and earth, hasn't changed quite a bit!)...I got no frangipani from this at all. I wish I had learnt earlier that jasmines amp on my skin. So that's exactly what happened. I also found out that I dislike tuberose as it reminds me of noisy weddings. So this smells like herbal jasmine hair oil on me. Very pungent and off-putting. The thing is, I do like jasmine as a flower. It's fresh and sweet and honeymoon-like. But it smells so different in perfumes and skin/hair products. Why is that?

    Nyarlathotep

I'm still stupid because I had this blend, loved it and never figured out what ozone smells like. One of my favourites from BPAL. I'd wear it everyday if I were a guy! I got it free so I was kinda scared, but was surprised that it turned out to be even better than most of the imps I'd actually ordered! Very woody, leathery, smokey and slightly gothic. It basically smells like Catholic church incense mixed with the ocean (oh wait, that's ozone, right? - smacks head over and over again). It reminds me a bit of my boyfriend. You'd picture a tall, mysterious, gorgeous dark-haired man in a long trenchcoat wearing this. It's doesn't even smell unisex. Just very manly. I'm too feminine for it, I think. *lol* Beautiful scent though.

    Athens

I have to admit, this scent grew on me. I did not like it the first time I ordered an imp. I did not want to smell of wine and honey, I'm not a foodie scent girl. I always say that. *lol* So the next time I ordered a bunch of imps, I got Athens free and thought, what the hell. Why do they send me stuff I've already tried before? I was at home and had just got out of the shower so I decided to use it up (it didn't occur to me to give it away, hadn't stumbled upon this forum yet). This time I used just a drop on each arm (I used to have the lousy habit of pouring perfume oils on me and finishing up imps within days, how silly am I?) and went to dry my hair. A few minutes later, I could smell the honey and wine mixture and I must've been in a weird mood, but it turned me on! *lol* I couldn't believe that I'd fallen in love with something I'd rejected before for others. How could I have not seen it before?!?! Sounds like a guy, eh? Well, the story with my boyfriend is similar, but anyway. I love myrrh. This blend is divine, reminds me of monasteries and Loreena McKennitt songs on the Mask & The Mirror album. Makes me want to go to Greece for a holiday. This scent turned me into a honey convert. I'm definitely getting myself a bottle! Love BPAL for sending me the free imp, haha.

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

Violet, gardenia and vanilla. Three of my favourite notes. I only wish this concoction didn't smell of candy on me. The drydown was more caramel than vanilla, I thought. So I was watching re-runs of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and don't ask me why, but I thought this blend would suit Buffy/SMG more. *lol* I was just hoping it would be a little darker, given the name. But it's a little girly for my liking.

    Urd

I had to wear this twice to fully appreciate it. I love incense scents so I got lured by the nag champa note. Never tried patchouli before so I can't comment. I love wine, but don't really like grapes or the smell of them so I was disappointed that for the first couple of hours, it smells fruity. Just when I was starting to give up, it reminded me of my old primary school, haha. Well, okay walking to the school. I was there very recently and it still has the same smell. Flowers. Frangipani, maybe? I'm probably a weirdo, but I like frangipani for this reason. It's the nag champa, isn't it? Very nostalgic and a little gothic. If only the grapes didn't amp on me. In the end, I decided to give this to my mother who absolutely loves it (she told me it smells like a temple, which it does). It smells better on her than it does on me.

    Euphrosyne

I must've got this because of the gardenia and vanilla. Didn't get any of those, though. This was the blend that made me find out that jasmine amps on my skin, blocks out all other notes and gives me a headache.

    Hecate

I don't even know why I ordered this one. I'm not really a foodie scent loving girl or even crazy about almonds. Must've been the mention of goddess Hecate. *lol* Anyway, I loved the top notes of this one. The almonds reminded me of my mum's Diwali sweets. But that was short-lived. From then on, it was talcum powder. And so now I know dark musk hates me.

    The Raven

After having been won over by Ulalume, I wanted to try another Poe-inspired scent. I love violets and I was hoping this would work for me. Unfortunately, I can't even remember the top notes. Only thing that stood out was the talcum powder (can't be sure if that was the sandalwood or the musk). But I hope there'll be more of his writings as scent inspirations/names!

    Ulalume

Being a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe and earthy, forest-like scents, I ordered an imp of this hoping I'd find the perfect fragrance for me. I wasn't let down - it was beautiful and woody, smelling of dried shrubs & damp leaves (I felt unique to be walking around town in Singapore being the only one wearing something like this). As much as I loved it that evening, I wasn't compelled enough to purchase a bottle or another imp, so my search continues. This is a wonderful interpretation of the poem, though. Really fits!

    The Phantom Wooer

I had no idea this scent would smell of lemon. If I'd known it had even the slightest trace of citrus, I wouldn't have ordered an imp. Blame my newbie status. I just read the description notes of stargazer lily, moonflower, tomb moss, bone dust, honey myrtle and knew I had to have it. I was expecting something earthy like Leanan Sidhe or Ulalume, but I all I got from the beginning was a weird combination of honey-lemon cough drops and mosquito repellant. No florals at all. No sneezing fit, though, thank God!

    Dragon's Eye

I'm not sure if this oil was meant to smell like honey and milk, but to me, it just does! The drydown, at least. In fact, it smells exactly like the soaps from L'Occitane which I absolutely adore. I don't know what dragon's blood smells like since I'm relatively new to BPAL, but all I got from the beginning were the florals (lilacs?). So on me it's lilac, honey and milk. And I love it! It's oddly comforting and sweet, but not overly. I may need a bottle.

    Perfume to match songs?

I'd love scents that reminded me of: - Gary Moore's "Over The Hills & Far Away." Then covered by Nightwish and Thyrfing. - Opeth's "Black Rose Immortal." (I imagine this to be a really dark rose scent...) - Sarah McLachlan's "Possession" and "Silence" (with Delerium).
