    Seule

for me this starts with honey, vanilla and lemon. honey/lemon are the most prominent at first, then after a few minutes i notice the musky amber a bit more. the musk seems to be sort of amping up the lemon a bit, making it slightly effervescent. several minutes later i get a lot more vanilla. i struggle a bit with it for the first hour, the notes aren't mixing great on me, though i love them all. it improves after 1 hour +. i get less lemon and more honey/musk.

Cold Moon: Jasmine Absolute and Champaca

for me this is a slightly dirty, spicy jasmine. at first it leans sliiiightly mothball, but then that goes away. i guess the spiciness is coming from champaca? i am unsure, but this is a pretty, heady jasmine. maybe it's incensey as the reviewer above said. it just adds a bit of depth to the jasmine.

Couple Engaged in Intimate Acts as the Man Pours Tea

this opens with rice and smoked vanilla. its very toasted smelling, i guess others read it as buttery? i can see that as well. i get a slight hint of yuzu after maybe 5 minutes, then i get jasmine tea a few minutes after that. it dries down to primarily jasmine tea and vanilla. thankfully, the rice fades more to the background over time. this is very pretty, i am loving the jasmine lupercalia perfumes this year.

    Lorrainna

this opens with orris root and dewy lilac, so it's very springy. after about 10 minutes i get a hint of magnolia which grows over time, but still the lilac is a bit stronger on my skin. it seems like a lilac soliflore almost, which has happened with other BPAL lilacs, so i think maybe my skin amps this note (?) which i am not complaining about because i love lilac. finally, deep into the drydown, i get more magnolia, which adds a bit of creaminess to the lilac though the lilac is still quite prominent. this is so pretty for springtime.

    Jealousy, Fingering, Masturbation

at first i get mostly green tea and mint with a hint of a mildly indolic jasmine, followed shortly by some sweetness from the lotus. after awhile it's a creamy jasmine with hints of lotus and violets. this is gorgeous and i think i need a bottle.

    On Clothes

this opens so soft, just musk with honey dust. the honey dust smells kind of like maple as another reviewer mentioned. after a couple of minutes the amber starts to peek through, and the scent seems to get more golden. i find this to be warm and cozy but close to the skin, definitely. overall this is mostly honey dust on me, which really doesn't smell much like honey, but more like a soft maple scent. i have tried other scents with honey dust and it's the same. with these other notes being so soft it's fairly strong on that note. i prefer regular honey/beeswax i think, but i could see a lot of people liking this one. it's very cozy and sweet.

    Convivial Vulva

at first i get a lot of strawberries and marshmallow on a backdrop of cherry blossom cream. tbh i am not a fan of wearing strawberry notes, though i do think it's pretty, it's just too sweet for me. the other notes pulled me in though and i was hoping against hope that the strawberries would be subtle. but they are not. they are the strongest note here for me (which i figured, but i also wanted to go a bit out of my comfort zone.) anyway, it's a joyful scent-sweet juicy strawberries and cream primarily. i could see myself wearing something like this once in a great while but overall it feels too sweet for me. in a nutshell this is strawberry candy and fluffy marshmallow.

In the Hallway of a Brothel

this opens with primarily lemon and a hint of soft incense smoke. something in here goes slightly sour on me (not just the sourness of lemon) but more how flower notes can go sour-sort of off. hard to describe. after maybe five minutes, i get a hint of the candle wax but it's kind of odd and almost medicinal smelling...i think it's what may be causing the slight sourness. the incense smoke gets stronger over time which helps a bit. overall, i think the wax in this is turning odd on my skin unfortunately, and my skin amps the lemon so it's extremely lemony and that tends to drown out the other notes.

    Dominatrix Red

i think i get vinyl and lipstick at first...it definitely smells like textiles and unnatural sorts of things. there is a hint of chalky sweetness along with something like a mild turpentine...this must be the lipstick and vinyl respectively. like the above reviewer mentioned, it does have a slight effervescence and is a bit mentholated. i don't personally seem to get much leather and overall the scent isn't all that sweet on me. it's more of a realistic vinyl scent. it's a really interesting one-i haven't smelled anything quite like it.

The Harbor of Love on the Island of Women Hair Gloss

i get mostly cherry and frothed cream at first...it's a little toasty/cakey, which i can only handle in small amounts. after a bit i get the rose and marshmallow, the cake/crumb note has died down thankfully. i find it to be pretty sweet...reminds me of a strawberry shortcake doll, but with cherry (i can't recall if there was a cherry themed doll?) anyway, on me it's a plasticky doll-head sweet cherry marshmallow. i sense a bit of tea in the background but it's pretty subtle.

    Rapturous Spouses and Curious Cat

this opens with lemon blossom and a ton of sharp frankincense which smells like pencil shavings...this is one of BPAL's notes that sometimes goes wonky on me. after a few seconds i get some neroli and honey, then later the ylang ylang. it ends up being mostly lemon and honey, and this is not one of my favorite honeys i've smelled...it's a little weird on me-has a bit of a pee thing going on. between that and the frankincense, this one just isn't working for me, unfortunately.

    Hazy Moon Cats

i get a lot of sandalwood incense with some violet, frankincense, ti leaf and a hint of jasmine which grows stronger over time. on me this is primarily a dry, unsweet incense with a hint of unsweet florals. it's nice but i wish i got more of the other notes. the sandalwood incense is definitely the strongest note on me. the jasmine never overpowers and then deep into the drydown i get a bit more violet-it's a this point that i like it the best. trying in cooler rainy weather: this time i get a lot of jasmine! along with the incense/labdanum. dries down to frankincense and orris mostly.

    Falling Star

i get a lot of cypress at first, along with bergamot. it's bright and green. this iris seems to be more of the cool kind of vegetal type rather than powdery. i definitely get a white musk as well. i think the cistus adds a sort of resiny quality which smells at odds with the rest of the notes on my skin. overall a green iris for me. i do not get mimosa but there is a little hint of lily and then the jasmine grows stronger over time. at this point it becomes jasmine and cypress with an iris/white musk backdrop.

    Lace Lichen

this one sounded really intriguing to me. it opens with oakmoss, ylang ylang and ambergris. sheer, green and a little floral. then i get a lot more patchouli/ambergris and the oakmoss amps up. it's quite green but also the sheer vanilla rounds it out nicely. i am not sure about this one, it is pretty but it needs another try for me, in warmer weather i think. nonetheless, interesting perfume! trying in warmer spring weather: yeah, it definitely works better for me when the weather is 10-15 degrees warmer. i get more orris and vanilla and it's a bit sweeter, which i like, the greenness is a bit more balanced now, as well.

    Mrs. Palmer's Establishment Atmosphere Spray

got a frimp of this one, which i have been really wanting to try it for so long! to me it's a heavy dose of leather with fresh notes, so i guess i am getting mostly leather, patchouli and oakmoss. i do not sense much sweetness from vanilla/tobacco. it's nice and an interesting leather.

To a Wreath of Snow Hair Gloss

from my previous review it seems i did like the perfume, but i think if memory serves, this lavender is stronger like roseus mentioned. (i will have to find my decant to compare.) anyway, it's an herbal lavender with white oud and ambergis mostly. the tobacco is subtle at first, but grows stronger over time. i find this scent to be calming and soothing.

Beaver Moon: Violet and Vanilla Chiffon

damn, i knew i would absolutely love this, and i do. it's a sweeter/parma violet, not the rainy violet leaf type. it's blended with a gorgeous vanilla that is not super sweet/cakey and therefore is totally dreamy. i love this one and i think i need a bottle.

    Porcelain Krampus

this opens with something almost floral and rice powder. i guess the floral could be a sweeter iris note and/or the orris+vanilla is giving this impression. anyway, it does smell very white and a bit chalky. it's delicate. the leather is quite subtle at first. it gets prettier and sweeter over time. i don't really sense much musk or ambrette here. for me it's mostly orris, rice powder and vanilla. i think i might need a bottle of this.

    Carved Wooden Bridal Shop

wow this is so pretty. it starts off with rose and the lace note which smells kind of vanillic. the rose definitely smells dried and not fresh, but recently dried, not like it's been sitting in a box for years, if that makes sense. i get something else here but it doesn't read as leather or wood per se. maybe it's a subtle hint of a suedey leather (?) a warm, somewhat vanillic tea rose. it's very romantic and nostalgic.

    Dragon's Bone

i recently received a frimp of this one. it starts out floral, almost like champaca? not sure what's going on with that, but there it is. then i get the woods/orris in the background. the dragon's blood is slightly smoky and this perfume smells very vintage. after awhile, i get that feeling of bones, it's almost somewhere between a leather note and a paper note. this is slightly unsettling for me, but really intriguing too. not sure i would wear it much but i keep wanting to smell it because it's so interesting.

    Debauchery

somehow i'd never tried this one in my near 20 years of BPALing...then i got a frimp, yay! it opens with a lot of the opium and something a bit sweet, almost like cherry/dragon's blood, but less sweet. i sense the civet but it's pretty tame at first. egyptian musk is sort of the background that everything else is swimming in, i think. the civet is definitely animalic on me but it's also pretty subtle, and i can really only smell it close up as opposed to wafting from afar...wafting i mostly get musk and incense. the civet is still there close up but not super strong, but it is quite animalic.

    Apple Vulva Hair Gloss

i got a frimp of this...i tend to dislike fruity notes, including apple so take my review with a grain of salt. it opens with fresh golden apples and that's all i can really sense, except for maybe a tiny hint of honey in the background. i get a slightly sharp cream in the background. primarily this is a crisp apple. if you like apple-y scents this might do it for you, because it's pretty realistic.

    Cascade of Spring Blossoms

hmm this opens with the honey cream and sandalwood i think. it's creamy and warm with a touch of red silk i think. for some reason some honey notes from BPAL are kind of maple-y like immortelle and it's definitely happening here. after a minute or two i get the lotus which adds a pretty floral element. for me, that maple note is just too strong and overwhelms everything. i think i had it happen with a 'honey dust' note in another scent. totally different from just a basic honey note. anyway, i get no leather here and it was not really what i was expecting.

    Strange Paroxysms of Languid Adoration

this opens with the orchid, violet and opium-it's sweetly floral and a little dusky from the opium. it smells very purple. there is a hint of green stems too. there is a soft background of heliotrope and sandalwood which props up the floral notes nicely. overall, this is mostly orchid and violet- a slightly sweet purple floral. the opium adds a bit of depth but is not super dark or heavy, just a little bit. this is a pretty purple floral that is kind of dewy, like a spring garden after the rain. very pretty and a bit lighter than expected.
