  1. :cry2:

I wanted to love this. I thought "oh, it says TRACES of caramel, it will be fine". All the other notes are great on me.

But nooooooo..... I am facing the fact very sadly, that if it has caramel anywhere in it, I must not buy it. Not only is that all I get from it, the lab's caramel note interacts very very badly with my skin chemistry, and smells like unwashed, dirty ... um.

I don't get anything but *that* from Now Winter Nights Enlarge. So sad. I was hoping for sweet, spicy red musk. Swaps pile!

  2. On me, this smells exactly of the cologne my dad wore when he dressed up for a special occasion. I have no idea what cologne it was, but this is exactly it. He passed away in 2001, but sniffing this on my wrist, he is right here with me.

  3. Wet, there is something in Raven Moon that evokes a childhood scent memory for me. I have been wracking my brain to try to remember.... but I have no idea. But, it definitely tickles something buried in the back of my memories.... A plant, I think.

This is not a bad thing, just something I thought I would mention. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, so it is probably a plant that grew in the woods (home) or the fields (either Grandparents). I just wish I could figure it out!

As it dries, it gets sweeter and sweeter, while still retaining the spicy, plant-y feel. Completely dry, it is a spicy, very dark vanilla - I was scared of the patchouli, but it is not so prominent that it ruins it for me.

I agree with the reviewers who said this will age beautifully, although it is lovely now, and definitely works on me, I think as it ages and mellows it will be simply beautiful.

  4. This is the one that I thought I would like the most of all the 2009 Weenies, and I actually like it the least of the ones I ordered!

I don't dislike it, just meh.

In the bottle: Almond and floral.

Wet: Stronger floral, still very almondy though. No cake or caramel yet.

Dries down to a light floral, with some almond cake far in the background. It's almost like I put on one of my foody scents in the morning, and when it went away, layered something with white flowers right over top. Odd.

Maybe my chemistry is doing strange things today, Pomona did something really weird and I had to try it again. Sooooo...... I will go with almondy, cakey floral now & give it a few days and come back & see.

ETA: OK, this settled down nicely. Very nicely. Or maybe my mood/chemistry is different today, but now I love this! I am getting an almondy, honey, carmelized floral. Unusual and awesome. It seems to my nose to be a honeyed rose, with some almond. But I am definitely getting the sweetness of the caramel now.

It's funny how some need so much more settling than others.

  5. In the bottle: Fruity but sharp. Almost a bitterness behind the fruit

Wet on skin: Bitter apples and - dirt? Lots and lots of dirt. Mud.

As this dries, the dirt goes away and I get gorgeous, amazing fruitiness. Red fruit, definitely. Red, juicy apples and pomegranates.

Dry, the nuttiness comes out. It gives the fruit a richness and depth. Beautiful.

  6. I agree with the reviewers who said marshmallow, but I get Marshmallow Fluff. A big jar of creamy Fluff! :yum:

Please forgive me, because I am not good yet at picking out notes. But I had to share how much I love Boo, I may need a back up bottle. Or two.

As it dries, I can smell what I think is the cotton - a clean background note, so the Fluff isn't too too sweet. It seems to stick close to my skin, but as I move my arm, I do catch a lovely whiff - more than I would think, since if I try to smell it, I have to get close to my arm....

It's been three hours, and it is still there. It is just lovely, by itself and I can imagine layered as well.

    :wub2:

  7. I love the wand caps! I want them on all of my bottles, so am adding them a little at a time.

Question, though - is there anything that I can do with the caps that I take off to replace with wand caps? It feels just wrong throwing them away, so I have them in a zip lock bag until I figure out if there is any use for them.

Does anyone have any ideas? or does anyone want them? I will be happy to send them to you!

    :wub2:

  8. I purchased an imp of Beaver'versary from an awesome forumite because the reviews made it sound so yummy.

In the bottle it does smell a little of cheesecake filled cupcakes, with the little graham cracker crust in the bottom of the cupcake liner. Definitely a cupcake, not the big heavy cheesecake - more brown edges. And I didn't get cherry - a teeny little bit of strawberry lurking in the background.

ON: :thud: Yep, pick my self up, smell my arm and again :thud:

This is vanilla, sweet and light, and lightly spicy on me. Not too sweet, no berries, just the perfect spicy vanilla. I cannot even describe how perfect this is on me.

After about 15 minutes, I was pushing "search" frantically for other forumites selling this!

  9. I wasn't sure I was going to like this - I have a bad history with Patchouli. (Actually, with the man who wore patchouli, but that is a whole 'nother story)

In the imp: very sharp and green, I can smell the pine and vetiver & that's it.

Wet: pine, vetiver and vanilla. Huh. And then lime and vanilla - yay!

Dry: when a scent makes your eyes roll up in the back of your head, it's time to order a big bottle! And I did. Hmmm, that's been happening a lot...

This is smoky, clovey, limey vanilla goodness. But not sweet, I guess because of the pine and vetiver. Thank goodness, the patchouli is faint enough so it doesn't do bad things, there is just a depth to this that keeps it from going too sweet on me. It seems like a man or a woman could wear this, now I just need a boy to test it on!

ETA: As I am typing, or just moving around, I keep getting a little drift that makes me think "WOW, what is that? Oh, VOODOO!" So hard to describe now, the pine, vanilla, vetiver and clove are feeling all warm and smoky and cozy, and the lime is adding a fresh citrus breeziness to it. :wub2:

  10. When I read the description of this, it sounded gorgeous, my mind apparently just doesn't notice notes I won't like - "Oh, it says Pine? That's ok, I'm sure you won't notice any pine, really... Look at all the notes in there that you like!"

Then I got the decant, and my brain caught up - "PINE!!!! Lots and lots of PINE!!!"

It took me a couple days of looking at it and psyching myself up to try it.... And I am so glad I did! The pine recedes almost completely, just enough to make me think of outdoors. I smell ginger and other spices, clove and cinnamon I think, but mostly ginger. Just warm and spicy, and fresh smelling at the same time.

If it stays like this, it is made of win. And I need more.

ETA: Trying this again - just to confirm how much I love it. I got a bottle from a wonderful forum-ite, and it's the same - at first I get a huge hit of pine - and then, ginger vanilla. Just a touch of fresh air/woodsy/astringency from the pine. Mostly just ginger - some weird combo of notes makes it all smell like ginger to me. Fresh, juicy, ginger.

  11. I had been really looking forward to trying this Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht, and received a decant from a kind forum-ite - I had almost ordered it unsniffed just based on the notes. I thought it would be wonderful and perfect.....

    FAIL

It smells like sweat. Old, unwashed, unhygenic human. That is the only way I can describe it with my chemistry. I guess if you take into consideration that Agrat lives at the Carnivale, travels around a lot, lives in a caravan and doesn't have much access to clean water or indoor plumbing, then it is absolutely the way she would smell.

Excuse me, I have to go wash my hand now. With Dawn. :rasp:

Sooooo glad I tried a decant of this before I ordered a whole bottle!

  12. Thanks to a lovely forum-ite, this was passed on to me.... (Sorry it didn't work on you, Hayley - )

In bottle: musky berries! Very sharp.

Wet: Still sharp, but more berries than musk. No honey yet, more like a bitter berry. I'm a little worried - after a couple of minutes, the musk seems to be amping to almost NO berry, just musk and green leaves.

Dry: Soft, lovely berries. Sweet but not too - I think I must be getting the sweetness and gold of the honey without smelling so much "honey". Thank goodnes the musk recedes and let the berries shine! And not a specific berry, just all kinds swirled together.

Once this dries down on me, it is a beautiful golden berry swirl. Fun and summery! I just have to get through that bitter musky leaf stage. Not one of my absolute favorites, but nice for a hot summer day.

ETA: I put a drop of Beaver'versary on top of this, and :yum: Sweetens it up just enough!

  13. Ordered from Dark Delicacies on the 18th, received (in Virginia) today!

    :joy:

I was sooooo hoping I would love this, I ordered 2 bottles! Remember, I am *awful* with the notes, but I will try.

In the bottle: pure caramel - not like a caramel candy, sharper than that, but caramel... boozy almost?

Wet: Still caramel, but there is something else - almost fruity? Must be the red jelly :yum:

So far, it's wonderful. It is not as "sugary" as I expected from some of the reviews, but I really love it so far. If it morphs into anything, I will update! Cause it's only been about a minute and a half.

ETA: Ok, an hour and a half - still sweet, but fruitier than at the beginning. I smell strawberries now - but still with a carmelized undertone. I like it more and more! Glad I bought a back up!

  14. I have to say.... love me some jasmine. And cinnamon. and vanilla. So.... Cinnamon-y, vanilla-y jasmine? Love it!~

This is almost all jasmine wet, and then gets spicier and sweeter as it dries. Still retains the jasmine, though. I think this is one that will just keep getting better and better. Definitely a winner!

  15. Someone on another thread - sorry, don't remember who! Said of another oil - that it turned to "YE OLDE GIFT SHOPPE" potpourri. That is Hell's Belle on me. :(

All I kept thinking was - a candle shop? a gift shop? Maybe a fair where they sell candles, crafts, potpourri (lots and lots of potpourri) and baked good and dried flowers all in the same <small> space? Yep, that was it.

  16. In the imp: Pure, green, tart apple. Maybe a tiny hint of green leaves, but all like a Granny Smith apple - almost too tart to eat.

Wet: I was hesitant to try this at first because of the pure apple I was getting in the imp. Although I love foodie scents, I wasn't sure about anything this tart. & at first, I was getting tart apples, a little woody, almost an appletini scent. Then as it started to dry:

    CARAMEL APPLES! YAY!

I love the sweetness that I am getting as this dries. Still apple-y, but a nice warm caramel overtone. The only problem is that it is so light, it seems to be vanishing as I am huffing it all up. We'll see. :( If it lasts longer than a couple hours, this is a big bottle for me.

  17. At first this smells kind of - um, sharp, I guess - on me. I think that is the vetiver - it seems like anything with vetiver smells sharp kind of acrid to me, at least at first.

Then as it dries - WOW! This is soft and warm and spicy. I smell cloves and vanilla and I think the wine - and just a little musk. Just enough to keep it from being overly sweet - although I seem to like overly sweet.

I just have to get through that first half hour or so, and then I luuuuurrrrv it. But thank goodness, I can smell NO cherry. Yay!

    Laura

  18. I'm so awful at picking out the notes - I am so "like" or "don't like" Hopefully the more familiar I get & the more practice I get, I will be more descriptive

In the imp: citrusy sweet, like limeade or a popsicle - I'm smelling something margarita-ish too.

Wet: Orange blossom sweetness, kind of a SweetTarts after a minute or two. Summery smelling, very nice. Not too sweet, I definitely smell the tartness - and maybe the pepper? Something that tickles my nose a little. I don't smell any tea.

After about 15 minutes, I am smelling sneezy orange. I can't decide if I like it or not. The fruity is almost too sweet - I guess this is kumquats? To my knowledge, I have never smelled a kumquat! But if I huff my arm, I get the feeling in my sinuses like I took a big whiff of pepper. Will report back later.

Wow, ok, after another 15 minutes..... gone. It was nice while it lasted, I guess. All 40 minutes or so, ha ha!

  19. Wanted to like this.... sounded like everything I love. Do NAWT like on me.

Of course, this could have something to do with spillage. On me. While applying.

In bottle: cherry vicks cough drops.

Wet: Still cherry cough drops. Artificial cherry & menthol - the menthol-lyptus they advertise. The cherry seems to be getting stronger, I can't smell anything else. Don't like cherry. Must wash off.

No dry down to report. HAD to wash it off, change clothes, and maybe still have to go take a shower cause I think I can still smell cough drops.

    :(

ETA: I only gave it 20 or so minutes on my skin, so maybe it would have changed. I have enough left in the bottle to try this again some other time, will let you know.

  20. Hi all!

I am a newbie, waiting for my first imps - there are so many that I am interested in, wow!

I was wondering if anyone knew of these fragrances -

    - Child Perfume by Susan Owens : " This intoxicating fragrance is derived from brilliant exotic white flowers that dry to a crisp white floral. " I found another description that described it as jasmine, but it isn't really. I think the closest is pikake, with some gardenia & jasmine maybe? I love child, but it is so expensive!

    The other one is:

1903 by J. Peterman. The description on the website says: "The report said: an “old woody fougère.” Clean citrus notes, bergamot, "green notes." The middle notes: clary sage…cardamom. The dry-down: leather notes, smoky labdanum…elemi, tabac, frankincense." Lots of notes, I know! It is a men's cologne, but smells fabulous on women too.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

    Laura
